Test : Steeler NG 65 S-design - a matter of feeling

It's quite early in the morning as I drive through the harbour of Urk in the Netherlands to the test boat. A bit chilly, overcast skies with the prospect of rain and strong winds, so the best conditions for a boat test. Still alone in the harbour, I take the opportunity to inspect the NG 65 extensively from the outside. Clear lines, no frills, fine workmanship and in flawless blue metallic paint I see my reflection - as expected, my thought.

But at that time I didn't know anything about the story behind this boat. And when I heard it later, I was more than touched by it. This boat is full of emotion!

At Steeler, NG stands for "next generation" and S-design describes the special design at the bow, which ensures that the boat cuts through the waves like the proverbial knife through soft butter. In addition, the bow and hull only produce a small bow wave, which is why the ride is quite dry despite the nautical conditions.

Two engines plus bow and stern thrusters as standard allow the Steeler to manoeuvre with pinpoint accuracy even in the tightest of spaces. Mooring and casting off manoeuvres are child's play. And if you also have the optional remote control ordered, you can operate the boat from anywhere on board and drive it safely.

The 65 S sits well at the helm and reacts spontaneously to any steering input. It makes no difference whether the large steering wheel or the small control lever on the helmsman's seat is used.

Thanks to the roller stabilisers the journey through the Ijsselmeer and Markermeer is pleasantly relaxed in wind force 6 Beauford. The slow turns are just under 50 metres with both levers ahead and only around 40 metres at higher speeds. The Round chipboard initially minimally to the centre of the bend and swings back outwards along the longitudinal axis with a slight heel before ending the manoeuvre in an upright position from about half the diameter of the bend. And all this without using the stabilisers.

At Duesseldorf, Steeler NG 65S named Power Boat of 2019

DUESSELDORF _ The Steeler NG 65 S _ an entry of Steeler Yachts of the Netherlands that caters to boaters with special needs _ was named Power Boat of the Year (displacement category) at the 2019 Boot Duesseldorf.

It bested 3 other nominees. From the Netherlands: Linssen Yachts’ Grand Sturdy 45.0 Sedan and Holtermann Shipyard’s 53 Commander and Mazarin German Yachts’ Silent 55.

The jury of 8 leading European watersports magazines was charmed by the fact Steeler Yachts caters to disabled boaters. “It proves it is also possible to build modern, smart steel boats for the disabled,” it said. “The Steeler NG 65 S is equipped with everything that disabled people need to cope with life on board. Clear lines, no frills, exquisite finish – the Steeler NG 65 S meets all of these requirements.”

The 19.5m NG 65 S ‘Li-Janne’ is the largest boat Steeler Yachts ever made. It developed the yacht from the bilge up to meet the needs of the disabled daughter of the yacht’s owners. The yacht has wheelchair access, an engineering high-wire act.

“We can create wheelchair access because we are a full-custom builder,” Steeler Yachts owner Hans Webbink told DutchYachtBuilding in an interview in 2018.

The aft sections of both side decks slide out. The wheelchair rolls onto the extended gangway and is pushed onboard through special railing doors. In front of the wheelhouse, an elevator of 1.5×1 m. (4.9×3.3 ft.) takes the wheelchair down a deck to a wheelchair-adapted cabin.

Webbink: “The sliding gangways, the railing doors, the elevator, the adapted cabin contain so many different parts and angles and reinforcements. We can do this because we are a full custom yard.”

Webbink has shaken up the Dutch yacht building sector with very edgy designs, like the 16m. Steeler Panorama Flat Floor 53 (left). Steeler Yachts won European Motor Boat of the Year awards in 2015 and 2016 and was twice nominated, in 2017 and 2018.

How Much Does A Sunseeker 65 Yacht Cost?

First launched in 2021, the Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht has had its share of accolades including 'Top Sport Cruiser Over 45 Feet' at the Motor Boat Awards and 'Best Exterior Design' at the 2021 World Yacht Trophies. Sunseeker Yachts has wonderfully integrated the experience of driving a sports car into their upper helm. The SkyHelm™ features an incredibly cool steering wheel, radical helm seats with carbon fiber backrests, and a futuristic console. Steady your feet against the foot-rest, lower back your helm seat and push that throttle down for a thrilling 35-knot ride thanks to the twin Volvo D-13 IPS 1350 engines.

As with most of their model ranges, Sunseeker continually develops new boats in a variety of formats. In addition to the 65 Sport Yacht , the Predator 65 is also offered in this range for those that want a more traditional express cruiser style with no sport bridge. Sunseeker describes their award winning model as being "akin to driving a high-performance convertible supercar", of course with all of the luxury accommodations on board you would expect. There are many builders that have yachts between 65 and 70 feet in their model range, but Sunseeker has most certainly made their mark in the category.

Currently, there are few available used boats in the United States for this model so waiting for inventory to become available may take some patience or travel. If you're looking to purchase a Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht, expect to pay between $3 million and $4 million depending on engine power, hours, equipment, condition, and location . The available Sunseeker 65's should include features like Seakeeper Gyro Stabilization, upgraded generators, and Garmin electronics.

What Do Other 65-Foot Sunseeker Yachts Cost?

The Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht isn't the only model in this length range that Sunseeker has built or is available on the brokerage market. The Sunseeker 65 Manhattan was a popular boat that first premiered in 2014. While it doesn't go quite as fast as the 65 Sport Yacht (the 65 Manhattan tops out under 30 knots), it does feature a full flybridge with hardtop, something many boaters desire on their yacht. The cost of a Sunseeker 65 Manhattan is going to run between $1.2 million and $1.8 million, depending on the year it was built.

Another model in this range is the Sunseeker Predator 64, which has a length of 64' 9". While it doesn't have the '65' in the model name, the boat should be considered 65-feet for these purposes. You will not notice a difference in the length between the Predator 64 and the Manhattan 65, for example. The Sunseeker Predator 64 first hit the market in 2009 and is no longer built today. You can still find a Predator 64 on the brokerage market that are selling for between $650,000 and $1 million.

One feature that the Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht has over the other previous models is their dedicated, optional Beach Club area. By carrying the tender on the swim platform, the tender garage gets transformed into a private spot right at the water's edge and features a wet bar, fridge, BBQ, and moveable furniture. This allows the owner to create the perfect arrangement of seats for the amount of guests on board, facilitating conversation in the most beautiful environment. There is also a massive sunpad aft of the cockpit with an adjustable backrest, allowing the sunbathers to position themselves facing either direction. (Seen below.)

A welcome challenge for our development team and we are on course to transform the NG65 into a stylish semi-raised pilothouse with flybridge. The cockpit and stern will be laid out to enable blue water fishing with all equipment installed to go after the big ones.

The Flyfish will be built in aluminium, allowing for efficient planing with all the benefits of the patented S-line design.

The 38.22m/125'5" motor yacht 'NG' was built by Azimut in Italy. Her interior is styled by Italian designer design house Achille Salvagni and she was delivered to her owner in August 2021. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Alberto Mancini.

Guest Accommodation

NG has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 suites comprising one VIP cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 6 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

NG is built with a GRP hull and carbon fibre/grp superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 2000 M96) 16-cylinder 2,600hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 19 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 24 knots with a range of up to 1,700 nautical miles from her 22,600 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 4,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) C ✠ HULL ● MACH classification society rules.
