Brief History about Cozumel •

Cozumel is an island in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, opposite Cozumel, and close to the Yucatán Channel. The economy of Cozumel is based on tourism. There are a number of visitors to the island's balnearios, scuba diving, and snorkeling. The main town on the island is San Miguel de Cozumel. The islands belong to Cozumel Municipality of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. The island is located in the Caribbean Sea along the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula about 82 km south of Cancún and 19 km from the mainland. The island is about 48 km long and 16 km wide. With a total area of 477.961 km2 (184.542 sq mi), it is Mexico's largest Caribbean island, largest permanently inhabited island, and Mexico's third-largest island, following Tiburón Island and Isla Ángel de la Guarda. The island is covered with mangrove forest which has many endemic animal species. Cozumel is a flat island based on limestone, resulting in karst topography. The highest natural point on the island is less than 15 m above sea level. The cenotes are deep water filled sinkholes formed by water percolating through the soft limestone soil during thousands of years. Cozumel's cenotes are restricted to qualified cave divers with appropriate credentials.

EL CIELO COZUMEL

Heaven on earth

I’m sure you have heard about heaven on earth, did you know that it is here in Cozumel ? We call it El Cielo , you can literally feel in the sky close to the stars.

I have never seen such incredible colors in my life, I really think I am very lucky to have been born in such a beautiful country, full of culture and places. Mexico is amazing.

If you never heard about El Cielo I will describe and tell you what is this about:

El Cielo is a sand bar that has approximately 800 meters at Cozumel, Quintana Roo coasts, very near to a private beach. So you would be able to bring sun chairs and walk by the sea. The only way to arrive there is by boat, yacht or catamaran and Deluxe Private Boats I can tell you is the best option for you. In El Cielo , you would be able to enjoy and snorkel very close to starfish, fish, sea turtles, and even stingrays. It has a very particular variety of turquoise colors.

It is very sad because like 10 years ago the starfish were very close to the shore. But because a lot of people and uninformed or unconscious tour guides they start touching them and taking them out the water (they die) the starfish starts to protect themself by going deeper.

Please it is very important for you to know that you can´t touch any of the sea life. We have to remember and be aware that we are in their habitat.

What to know?

If you are thinking of going to El Cielo Cozumel . I will give you very important tips for you to be prepared:

• Use sunblock, but PLEASE make sure that the sunblock is reef-friendly. Or would be even better if you avoid sunblocks, another option is to use long sleeve t-shirts.
• Of course and very important even if you think you would not get into the water. You should really bring a swimsuit. At the moment you arrive there you would jump, into the water. It is inevitable because you would be able to be standing, the water reaches your belly, so it is not that deep in some areas. As I tell you before it is a sand bar.
• You should rent your boat for at least 4 hours to arrive and enjoy the time there it is not that close.
• In case you suffer from dizziness I highly recommend you take some medication 30 minutes before your tour departs. That way you would be able to enjoy every minute.
• Take this tour to see the sunset there, WOW you will thank me for this, the colors change extremely and the experience would be even better.
• It is very very important for you to know that El Cielo is close at the moment. Because of preservation, but I’m sure because of the horrible situation we are going through and no one is affecting beaches and marine life. El Cielo and the world would be cleaned considerably. And at the moment that we can visit this amazing place we would be extremely careful with our nature.
