32nd Monaco Yacht Show : the world’s leading luxury yachting show will be held from Wednesday 27 to Saturday 30 September 2023, in Port Hercule de Monaco.

In September, the yachting industry turns its focus exclusively on the Monaco Yacht Show where forty or so new launches are annually unveiled in a worldwide debut. Hundreds of exhibiting companies and partners participate in the growing success of the MYS. Monaco provides the ultimate showcase for industry influencers from the most reputable superyacht builders, award winning yacht designers, luxury suppliers, influential brokerage houses to the most sought-after water toys, prestige cars, helicopter and private jet manufacturers. From 27 to 30 of September, more exclusive superyachts built by the world’s largest shipyards will be exhibited in Port Hercule. Once again this year, the MYS will continue its three-year development programme “Seducation,” with 2023 marking the consolidation of the first cycle. The Monaco Yacht Show announced the return of the Sustainability Hub for its second edition in 2023. This dedicated exhibition area will once again showcase companies specializing in sustainable technologies aimed at reducing the environmental impact of superyachts.

The Monaco Yacht Show 2023: A Round Up of the Top Stories

After a truly spectacular edition of the Monaco Yacht Show this year, we take a look at some of the top news stories from the event. From new launches, to concept designs, this year’s show featured a host of exciting industry updates.

The Monaco Yacht Show 2023 undoubtedly saw a range of exciting updates for the industry; we take a look at six of the top news that was unveiled during the show. We delve into the announcement of the launch of the first Amels 80, the unveiling of two concept designs from Feadship and Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, the reveal of Benetti's 85m project and Rossinavi’s 66m diesel electric ALCHEMY, as well as taking a look at Lürssen's 97m CARINTHIA VII following her 10-month refit. 

The First Amels 80 Launched

On schedule to be delivered in 2025, the first Amels 80’s new hull and superstructure were spotted outside of her build shed. Described by Sean Bianchi, Partner and Head of New Construction at Burgess, and Naval Architect, as a yacht which will ‘stand out amongst her peers and set the benchmark for future yachts’, her launch was highly exciting news announced by the shipyard on the first morning of the yacht show.

Designed by Espen Øino, Amels 80 features a holistic and modern exterior design, in keeping with the Amels DNA. She also features sustainable materials and innovative hybrid technology, a key factor of the next-generation Amels' design. 

‘The Amels 80 is a design that will not age. Her modern strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she is delivered. She is a big ship, full of features, with an impressive interior volume. She is everything and more that you would expect from an 80-metre yacht. There is a sense of scale, and nothing is wasted,’ commented Espen Øino.

Her interiors are custom-built, penned by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, with a neutral and natural palette, allowing for the owner to add their own personal style. She can accommodate up to 14 guests, who can enjoy a 200 square metres sun deck, a waterside beach club which opens on three sides and a wellness area and spa, to name a few of the fantastic amenities on board. 

Benetti’s Full-Custom Espen Øino-Designed 85m Project Announced 

PROJECT LIFE, Benetti’s new full-custom 85m, is a welcome addition to the Italian yard’s megayacht fleet. Her exteriors have also been penned by Espen Øino, who has injected Benetti’s distinctive characteristics into PROJECT LIFE’s design: the capacity to invent new lifestyles, offering varied interpretations of this concept across the decks. All spaces onboard are designed with sociability in mind, for instance, the large revolving lounge that changes its focal point depending on the time of day. 

Her interiors have been designed by Francois Zuretti, who has chosen a beautiful balance between the colours and the surrounding environment, with an expanded opening that allows natural light to enhance the spaces. 

PROJECT LIFE is built with all the available technologies to help reduce consumption, including diesel-electric propulsion and integrated hybrid solar panels that collect solar and thermal energy to power appliances onboard.

A Look Inside Lürssen’s 97m CARINTHIA VII Following Refit 

Following a 10-month refit by Lürssen at its Hamburg facilities, the results of CARINTHIA VII’s extensive refit were revealed at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, where she was presented to the charter market for the first time, represented by Fraser.  

She was designed by Tim Heywood, regarded by many as one of the world’s first true mega yachts. Kept largely hidden from industry over the last 21 years, with her interior rarely seen, her introduction to the charter market has been eagerly awaited, as has the results of her refit. 

Her new work includes redesigned exterior decks, new lounge and living areas and a new 12m/39’ pool and 90sqm air-conditioned gymnasium. Her interiors are sophisticated and elegant, with beautiful wooden flooring pervading the design and neutral beige and browns contrasted with cool-tone hues of blues and stunningly clean white stylings. She is a true masterpiece and an unmissable offering to the charter market. 

Embracing Sustainability: Feadship Debuts Project DUNES

DUNE takes a significant step towards Feadship’s goal of Net-Zero superyachts, combining features that reduce energy demand with technology that eliminates emissions and increases efficiency. Each individual element of the design assists in reducing environmental impact, for instance, shading windows to reduce cooling requirements, however, when implemented together, they slash a superyacht’s environmental impact dramatically.  

Inspired by the aesthetics of sand dunes, this vessel reflects the onboard lifestyle that today’s owners desire, with flexible, multi-purpose spaces, endless views, and a combination of sociable open-plan areas with cosy, intimate spaces. She has an asymmetrical superstructure with almost no straight lines, meaning that spaces drift into one another, furthering the notion of flow throughout the yacht, and the heavy use of glass seamlessly blends the interiors with the surroundings. 

Her design, along with all Feadship concepts, is a true joint effort between Feadship, Studio de Voogt and the yard's Knowledge and Innovation department. With a wealth of expertise and experience across all collaborators, the shipyard’s concept designs are able to be of the highest possible quality. 

AWARE, The Essence of Luxury, Presented by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design

Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design presented the 79.9m yacht concept AWARE at the Monaco Yacht Show, a ready-to-build, fully operational concept with a 1600 mm scale model. Her design combines proven technology with innovation and the use of the most precious and durable materials. At the forefront of this design is space optimisation, with an abundance of space on board, vast exterior decks and an unparalleled inside-outside connection, 

AWARE has been described as the ‘Essence of Luxury’: a logical step in yacht design in which all space is optimised to give guests on board the best possible experience. Sander Sinot, Designer at the firm commented:

‘For the design of AWARE the focus is on maximising the space on board within the yacht’s limited structure. We designed open plan layouts for the beach club, lounges and exterior decks that offer inherent flexibility and ample space while reducing the number of decks.’

With exceptional features to optimise the outside areas, including a beach club with a three-metre high ceiling, the interiors have similarly been designed to provide ultimate functionality and a spectacular inside-out experience. She is a tri-deck design with an open plan pavilion on the bridge deck, allowing for unrestricted views of the ocean on all sides. 

Rossinavi’s 66m Diesel Electric Motor Yacht ALCHEMY

Unveiled at Port Hercules was Rossinavi’s 66m M/Y ALCHEMY, a fully custom design by Vitruvius Yachts with interior and exterior styling by Enrico Gobbi. She features diesel-electric propulsion, propelled by rods to reduce the loss of energy between the engines and navigation speed. 

ALCHEMY is an elegant tri-deck design with a focus on the outdoor areas and wellness aspects of the yacht. With a spacious central corridor, the forward owner’s cabin offers a clear view of the sea, creating a sense of openness in the design alongside a strong connection to the surroundings. A special emphasis has been placed on ensuring comfort on board, in particular the minimisation of vibrations, meaning that every technical and material choice has been considered to reduce noise and vibrations. 

The atmosphere throughout this vessel is calm and elegant, with every single piece of furniture being bespoke. Enrico Gobbi commented:

‘Spa mood was the keyword for the interior design and exterior decor of this yacht; natural materials, soft colours, and essential shapes for the interiors. Soft indirect lights to 'wet' the simplicity of the forms, where the detail and construction quality had to emerge and characterize the space: 'detail makes the differences' this is the motto that we have followed more than ever in this project together with the owners.’

Countdown: Monaco Yacht Show 2023

With the industry’s most hotly anticipated event just around the corner, we take a look at what lies in store for mys 2023….

With just days until the industry’s most hotly anticipated event opens its doors to yachting aficionados from all around the globe, we take a look – and a much-needed breath – to see what’s in store.

Kicking off between the 27th and 30th September in Port Hercule, the Monaco Yacht Show  2023 is set to showcase a grand total of 111 yachts over 30m, with attendee figures slated to be more than 30,000 and more than 450 major companies represented from across the industry. 

With competition to see the boats in person likely to be particularly fierce this year, it is worth being prepared to wait your turn, unless you’re in the fortunate position of actually looking to buy. Highlights include the iconic, freshly refitted Tim Heywood-designed 97m Lürssen superyacht Carinthia VII , which has a ‘touch-and-go’ bow helipad, 12m swimming pool and top-notch guest accommodation split across two decks.

Sold to a new owner by Fraser Yachts just ahead of MYS 2022 for an asking price of €95m, Carinthia VII  will undoubtedly be a popular choice for tours this year and looks set to be the largest yacht in attendance.

Notably, there are no confirmed 100m plus vessels on the attendance list this year, but moving down the size rankings slightly, there will be a total of nine superyachts above 80m on display. This includes the 84m Feadship Savannah , which has been listed for the first time since its delivery in 2015.

Launched by Feadship’s  facility in Aalsmeer, the head-turning superyacht is often cited as the world’s first diesel-electric hybrid motoryacht, with its power provided by a main diesel engine with three gensets, as well as a megawatt of storage batteries alongside an azimuth thruster. Her innovative design is the result of a combination of Studio De Voogt  and Cristina Gherardi Bernadeau and Marello Bozzarelli from Paris-based CG Design and includes such design hallmarks as a floating superstructure and an underwater lounge.

Described as both “peerless” and “one of the most iconic yachts to ever grace the water” by the broker, Edmiston president Robert Shepherd, who says, “There are yachts, then there are Feadships, and then there is Savannah ,” enthuses Shepherd. “Words can’t describe my excitement and the honour of being appointed as the broker for this marvel of a superyacht.”

As the industry continues to work at being less myopic and taking its environmental responsibilities more seriously, it is of significance that the Sustainability Hub will be making a reappearance at the 2023 show.

Hosted in collaboration with the Water Revolution Foundation and sponsored by Siemens Energy, the exhibitors who will be found in the dedicated 200m 2 space in Darse Sud are vetted in advance. This is to ensure that only eligible companies with genuine and viable sustainable solutions are included, to avoid any dangers of so-called ‘greenwashing’.

As Water Revolution Executive Director Robert Van Tol says: “This exhibition area is designed to showcase technologies that bring concrete improvements to the world of yachting, including the health of the oceans. We aim to support exhibitors, service providers, and visitors alike in finding viable solutions to environmental challenges.”

Keen to practise what they preach, MYS also hosted a webinar for exhibitors and show suppliers in early summer to discuss its three-phase Cabon Neutrality Transition Plan – which is aiming to reduce CO 2 emissions by 60% by 2025 compared to 2022, alongside aligning with the Principality of Monaco’s aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. 

Finally, as owners continue to display their interest in reaching further flung destinations, whether via private or charter yachts, the popular Adventure Area will also be making its return in 2023, spanning two locations within Port Hercule. A display of luxury vehicles, water toys and tenders will be accessible at Quai Antoine 1er, with 20 tenders found at Quai Jarlan, including luxurious off-road vehicles, top-tier gadgets and helicopters, as well as showcasing some of the world’s most cutting-edge and exciting water toys.

55m Admiral SILVER STAR

Our event flagship, SILVER STAR, will be presented in collaboration with The Italian Sea Group. SILVER STAR represents the second unit from the world-acclaimed Admiral S-Force 55 series, which is arguably one of the most successful charter yachts in the world.

The sub-500 GT superyacht offers accommodation for as many as 12 guests, and it features a genuinely bespoke interior by fashion magnate Giorgio Armani. SILVER STAR will be positioned on the ADmiral stand, and we can’t recommend viewing her enough.

SILVER STAR is the only brand-new 55-metre sub-500 GT yacht in her class on the market with immediate delivery.

50m Benetti ALUNYA

We’re proud to represent the world debut of the B.Now 50m Oasis Deck series with her builder, Benetti. ALUNYA is hull six from the B.Now 50m series yet the second to feature the sought-after patented Oasis Deck. The redesigned stern provides guests with a very generous 36 square-metre beach club and outdoor living area, making her the ideal yacht for those who love spending time in and near the water.

Accommodation is for as many as 12, and ALUNYA is conservative when cruising and has a range that exceeds typical usage for charter.

ALUNYA will be berthed directly opposite Benetti’s stand.

50.4 Feadship EMERALD

EMERALD was redelivered in February of this year, following a major 16-month rebuild at Balk Shipyard, which included a 1.8-metre stern extension and a modernised interior by UK-based design studio Design Unlimited. Her classic 1990s exterior styling by De Voogt Naval Architects has remained intact, but everything else has been overthrown

The sub-500 GT superyacht is characterised by an Orion Green hull and offers accommodation for up to 14 guests. Untypical on yachts of this size, she features two VIP suites on the main deck and a further four guest staterooms on the lower deck. She can also host 12 crew.

EMERALD joined our charter fleet post-delivery and has proven to be incredibly popular. Her family-focused arrangement, generous al fresco social areas and modern interior packaged in a classic 1990s Feadship platform are a big hit. You’ll find EMERALD berthed on T-central.

49.9m Tankoa GREY

Despite being hull five in the Tankoa S501 series, GREY is a stand-alone superyacht. Her commissioning owner worked tirelessly with designers Francesco Paszkowski and Giorgio Cassetta to create something extraordinary – and their efforts were well placed.

GREY was designed from the outside in, with great emphasis paid to alfresco living – and she has an abundance of it. Her Jacuzzi on the sundeck and lounge areas across her three cascading aft decks are an oasis, yet they’ll be hard-pressed to steal the attention of guests who’ll undoubtedly spend more time in the bow lounge. Arguably the most desired bow on a sub-500 GT superyacht, Tankoa built a phenomenal space complete with a large plunge pool and screening area.

GREY is available for purchase, and interested viewers can see first-hand how she’s a true passion project. Not to mention her charter potential if they’d ever like to make an enterprise of her. She can be found berthed at the Tankoa stand.

Monaco's premium yachting event is scheduled to return once again to the beautiful Port Hercule.

Pushing all the boundaries for the utmost VIP indulgence, the Monaco Yacht Show is once again set to welcome a plethora of luxury charter yachts and prestige yachts for sale to the coast of Monte Carlo.

Scheduled to run from 27-30 September 2023, this edition will continue the successful operation of the badge system introduced in 2021, where visitors to the Monaco event will have the opportunity to view some of the most esteemed yachts on the market and truly make the most of the exclusive VIP environment.

Iconic yachts

Primarily aimed at the end-user, the ethos behind the event is to allow all visitors the chance to taste the pure indulgence of superyachts in person and even find out more about making use of your very own Monaco yacht charter .

With some of the biggest names in the industry attending like Benetti, Sunseeker, and Azimut, the models on display are never anything short of impressive and give a prime example of all the types of yachts available to buy.

With around 600 exhibitors expected to appear throughout the duration, specified areas will be created for motor yachts, tenders and toys, premium shopping and, naturally, live entertainment.

A social agenda

Home to some of the biggest social events of the year including the world-renowned Monaco Grand Prix , it comes as no surprise that the Monaco Yacht Show  also puts on a show for the VIPs.

Yachts, stars, and Robbie Williams: A night to remember in Monaco

This Saturday, September 7, the Yacht Club de Monaco hosted the ultimate rendezvous of yachting, music, and glamour at the Ferretti Group’s annual private event. The evening featured a stunning yacht preview and an electrifying performance by British superstar Robbie Williams, creating a magical moment among the world’s most luxurious boats and the international elite.

Under a warm Mediterranean sky, Robbie Williams took the stage—seemingly floating above Monte Carlo’s harbor—surrounded by a fleet of opulent yachts. With his signature charisma and hits like “Rock DJ,” Williams had the 600 handpicked guests—an international who’s who of influencers, royals, and celebrities—on their feet.

The guest list sparkled with stars like HSH Prince Albert, F1 drivers Charles Leclerc and George Russell, entrepreneur Flavio Briatore, designer Domenico Dolce, and actor Pier francesco Favino, fresh from the Venice Film Festival.

While the music rocked the harbor, the real headliners were the yachts. Ferretti Group, the leader in luxury yachting, showcased a fleet of 37 vessels, including seven world premieres like the avant-garde Custom Line Navetta 38 and the bold Pershing GTX80. From the sleek, electric Riva El-Iseo to the high-performance Wallywind110, each yacht was a masterpiece of innovation and maritime elegance. Guests enjoyed exclusive tours and sea trials, fully immersing themselves in the world of floating luxury.

To cap off the evening, Michelin-starred chef Antonio Mellino crafted a dinner that delighted every sense, elevating the night with exquisite flavors.

And the party didn’t stop there. Flavio Briatore hosted a select few aboard his private yacht for an after-party. F1 heavyweights, including the drivers and CEO Stefano Domenicali, joined in, along with Robbie Williams, who kept the fun going. “Boat party with friends,” Briatore posted on Instagram, capturing the essence of the night.

With its perfect blend of elegance and exclusivity, this dazzling event once again confirmed Monte Carlo’s status as the global capital of luxury.

Un dîner étoilé pour couronner la soirée

Les plaisirs des sens ne se sont pas limités à la vue et à l’ouïe. Antonio Mellino, récemment auréolé de sa troisième étoile Michelin, a concocté un dîner d’exception pour les convives. Chacune des créations gastronomiques servies durant la soirée était un hommage à la haute cuisine, apportant une touche de raffinement supplémentaire à cette nuit déjà exceptionnelle.

Une after-party exclusive sur le yacht de Flavio Briatore

Parmi les participants à cette after-party, on retrouvait les deux pilotes ainsi que le PDG de la Formule 1, Stefano Domenicali. Robbie Williams lui-même a rejoint les festivités, plaisantant avec Briatore dans une ambiance détendue. « Fête en bateau avec les amis  » a écrit l’entrepreneur italien en légende de son post Instagram.

Marquée par l’élégance et la convivialité, cette soirée a une fois de plus prouvé que Monte-Carlo reste la capitale mondiale du luxe et de l’exclusivité.

Monaco, 27 September 2023 A diverse exhibition on display: 560 carefully selected exhibitors representing excellence and innovation in yachting are showcased on the docks: naval designers and architects, yacht equipment providers, service providers, as well as manufacturers of tenders and nautical gadgets. An impressive fleet: In total, 117 superyachts, including 3 exceptional catamarans, will be present at Port Hercule, making this event the ultimate gathering of maritime luxury. New horizons: 45 yachts launched in 2023 are on display, alongside 16 yachts launched or refitted in 2022. This impressive fleet includes 61 yachts less than 2 years old, a remarkable proportion of 52% of the MYS yacht fleet. Yacht builders and brokers: the show welcomes 58 yachts presented by shipyards (representing 49.60% of the fleet) and 59 yachts presented by brokers (constituting 50.4% of the fleet). This balance ensures a diverse presentation of new builds and charter yachts. Luxury tenders: to complement the superyachts, 61 luxury tenders will be exhibited, including 2 extraordinary submarines, adding an extra touch of prestige to the event. An adventurous spirit: Beyond the sea, MYS 2023 emphasizes both land and air with 30 cars and motorcycles on display in the adventure area, as well as 2 helicopters, offering a truly immersive experience for all visitors

Tutto quello che occorre sapere sul Cannes Yachting Festival 2024

Dal 10 al 15 settembre 2024 verranno presentate circa 700 barche, dai 5 ai 50 metri, da un capo all'altro della famosa Croisette

Il Cannes Yachting Festival è un salone nautico eccezionale che ospita ogni anno un'offerta eclettica di quasi 700 barche da 5 a 50 metri: barche a vela e a motore, monoscafo, multiscafo, a scafo duro o semirigido, superyacht di lusso e molto altro. L’importanza del salone nautico di Cannes è il debutto di tantissime novità in quanto prima kermesse di settembre, mese che vede protagonista la nautica con le fiere più importanti (a seguire, il Salone Nautico di Genova e il Monaco Yacht Show ).

Il Cannes Yachting Festival è, inoltre, il primo salone nautico in acqua d'Europa e il numero uno al mondo per le esposizioni delle grandi barche a vela. Come ogni anno, i natanti (ovvero le barche con una lunghezza inferiore di 10 metri) saranno esposte a terra, mentre le imbarcazioni e le navi da diporto (barche che superano rispettivamente i 10 e i 24 metri) saranno esposte in acqua.

Il Cannes Yachting Festival è situato nei due porti di Cannes: il Vieux Port , che dal 2019 espone il meglio della progettazione nautica a motore , e il Port Canto dedicato, invece, alle barche a vela . L'edizione 2024 introduce un settore dedicato alle nuove imbarcazioni a motore fino a 12-13 metri a Port Canto, tra gli spazi Vela e Yacht Brokerage & Toys.

Dal 10 al 15 settembre il Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 offre la possibilità di toccare con mano le ultime novità nel settore dello yacht design , salendo a bordo delle barche e testandole nelle prove in mare.

Cannes Yachting Festival 2024: le location

Il Cannes Yachting Festival è un salone molto grande che richiede almeno due o tre giorni di visita affinché si possa guardare e osservare tutte le novità con calma e salire a bordo di qualche barca per poter apprezzare le caratteristiche dall’interno. Se, invece, si ha a disposizione solo una giornata è consigliabile studiare bene la pianta del salone per capire dove recarsi velocemente in base alle proprie preferenze. Bisogna anche tener presente che la kermesse offre la grande possibilità delle prove in mare e, ogni tanto, alcuni tratti dei pontili diventano momentaneamente non accessibili per poter permettere alle barche di uscire in mare aperto: diventa quindi necessario riprogrammare un altro percorso per non perdere attimi preziosi nella giornata.

Se siete interessati alle barche a vela recatevi subito a Port Canto : un vero e proprio scrigno dedicato alla vela, con quasi 120 nuove unità tra i 10 e i 30 metri di lunghezza, monoscafi e multiscafi, di cui 13 in anteprima mondiale, esposte in 400 metri di banchina per i monoscafi e più di 450 metri per i multiscafi. A port Canto si trova anche lo spazio Brokerage e lo spazio Toys e, da quest’anno, il nuovo settore dedicato alle ultime novità in fatto di imbarcazioni a motore fino a 12-13 metri.

Il paradiso delle barche a motore è però il Vieux Port , situato nel cuore della città di Cannes , di fronte alle isole di Lérins. In acqua, il Vieux Port riunisce più di 350 unità da 10 a 45 metri: monoscafo, multiscafo, a scafo rigido o semirigido, presentate dai più grandi nomi della nautica da diporto francese e internazionale.

Al Vieux Port ci sono sei settori:

• il Palais des Festivals che ospita al suo interno i principali attori della grande nautica da diporto: cantieri, fornitori di attrezzature, aziende di arredamento, turismo o servizi, ecc.;
• la Jetée, dove vengono esposte unità di grandi dimensioni superiori ai 22 metri; la Super Yachts Extension , costituita da tre chiatte galleggianti posizionate nel prolungamento della Jetée, riunisce una trentina tra i più grandi yacht a motore, superiori ai 24 metri;
• il Quai Max Laubeuf, dove si trovano una quarantina di unità in acqua e circa quindici catamarani a motore, tra cui alcune impressionanti unità lunghe fino a 29 metri e larghe 14 metri;
• il Quai Saint-Pierre, stretto molo di pietra ai piedi della collina del Suquet, presenta unità dai 10 ai 21 metri;
• la Pantiero, dove è presente un'ampia gamma di unità a motore fino a 20 metri.

Cannes Yachting Festival 2024: cosa vedere

Tra le novità da non perdere:

• Zodiac X10CC (imbarcazione più grande mai realizzata da Zodiac) è un monoscafo semirigido progettato per lunghe giornate al sole e anche sotto la pioggia, grazie alla sua ampia cabina;
• Brabus Shadow 1000 Sun Top Signature Edition, monoscafo a motore (è il più veloce mai costruito da Brabus Marine);
• Evo Yachts R4+, imbarcazione a motore di 13 metri con piattaforma multifunzione di poppa custom che garantisce la massima vivibilità di questa zona;
• Lagoon 43, catamarano a vela con un'apertura supplementare nella parte posteriore degli scafi che agevola gli spostamenti;
• FIM 500 Regina, dayboat di 16 metri sportivo ed elegante;

The Portland Yacht Rock Festival will feature soft-rock songs of the '70s and '80s, and Bitch will play an intimate set Saturday on Great Diamond.

If you love ’70s and early ’80s tunes from artists like Toto, Christopher Cross, America, Ambrosia and Bread, you’ll want to buy a ticket to the Portland Yacht Rock Festival.

The show is on Friday at Aura.

Yacht Rock is the tongue-in-cheek name given to soft-rock music that is loosely associated with southern California and boating. Mostly, it’s comprised of hit songs that you won’t bang your head to but will certainly sing along with. Best of luck with the those high notes in the refrain of Toto’s “Africa.”

Aura general manager Mark Curdo is a gigantic Yacht Rock fan, and the first planning meeting about the show took place at Three Dollar Dewey’s in January.

Curdo, with the help of guitarist Max Cantlin (Gina and the Red Eye Flight Crew, Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, Micromasse), assembled an all-star cast of 14 local musicians to perform a slew of classic Yacht Rock songs on Friday night. Advertisement

“I’ve been a fan of light and easy listening rock my whole life,” Curdo said. “Whether people think Yacht Rock is cheesy or not, at the end of the day, this stuff is well done and the musicianship is ridiculous.”

The idea for the Yacht Rock show has been mapped out in Curdo’s head for a few years. “I wanted to have a few lead singers, I knew certain ones could hit certain notes, and I actually had the whole set list.”

It includes hits like “Reminiscing” by Little River Band, “Ventura Highway” by America, “Midnight at the Oasis” by Maria Muldaur, “Eye In The Sky” by The Alan Parsons Project and “On and On” by Stephen Bishop.

Lead vocal duties will be shared among Don Campbell, Gina Alibrio, Owen Conforte and Kris Rodgers. There will also be a couple of guest vocalists taking the stage.

The band is led by Cantlin and includes Tyler Quist on bass, Chris Sweet on drums, Emma Stanley on trumpet and flugelhorn and Kate Beever on percussion, among several others.

Boston-based singer-songwriter Bitch (Karen Mould) is performing a Saturday night show on Great Diamond Island, the home of her longtime friend Dini Lamot.

“I’m gonna bring my bass and my violin, sing songs and tell some stories, and it should be really intimate and sweet,” said Bitch (known as Karen only to their mother, according to  a 2022 interview.)

Face the Music: Tough subjects get upbeat treatment on ‘Bitchcraft’

The show will feature a number of songs from the 2022 album “Bitchcraft,” including “Easy Target,” which they wrote in the aftermath of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, and the synth- and percussion-heavy breakup tune “Pages.”

The album was well-received, and Bitch enjoyed the boost after a several year hiatus from putting out music. “It gave me wind under my broomstick again. It has been a beautiful homecoming into being an artist again.”

They said they’ve also been writing new material. “I actually started laying a couple of songs down in the studio last month. There’s a new project on the horizon.”

Bitch has been performing a one-woman show since the release of “Bitchcraft” and was excited to share that it will have an off-Broadway run in New York City starting this winter.

Le barche più tech del Festival degli yacht di Cannes

Come sempre è la fiera francese Cannes Yachting Festival, che quest'anno è in corso dal 10 al 15 settembre, a inaugurare la stagione nautica . Qui tutti i cantieri fanno a gara per presentare le loro novità, grandi o piccole che siano. Quest’anno l’offerta è particolarmente ricca, con i brand italiani in prima fila per stupire il mercato. Ecco le barche che più ci hanno colpito per innovazioni e sostenibilità.

Aprea Gozzo 38 Cabin

Lungo 11 metri, è l’ennesima bella invenzione del Cantiere di Torre Annunziata che reinterpreta in maniera moderna il più classico dei gozzi (barche da pesca tipiche della Liguria e della Campania), quello Sorrentino. L’anno scorso era arrivato il Gozzo 35, quest’anno a Cannes vedremo la sua versione Cabin con tutta la zona centrale al coperto e una plancia di poppa più grande. Il risultato è un intrigante natante (che di omologazione rimane sotto i 10 metri di lunghezza) con due grandi cabine, un bagno e in coperta cucina e zona living e pranzo. In altre parole, il mezzo ideale per la crociera in famiglia.

Azimut Seadeck 7

La casa di Avigliana, con questo elegante 21 metri, allunga la sua gamma di yacht ad alto contenuto tecnologico ed estremamente sensibili al loro impatto ambientale. Certo, per arrivare ad una barca a impatto zero la strada è ancora lunga, ma Azimut ci prova seriamente: sul nuovo modello viene abbinata la propulsione IPS con eliche traenti a un sistema ibrido che consentirà di viaggiare in modalità full-electric (a 11 nodi) e di essere assolutamente autonomi all’ancora (quindi per la maggior parte del tempo che si passa in crociera). Esterni di Alberto Mancini, interni disegnati da Thun e Rodriguez con arredi e materiali ecosostenibili.

Ferretti Infynito 80

Il gruppo Ferretti lancia il suo 24 metri della gamma Infynito, dove il nome è sia un richiamo alla grande autonomia di navigazione, ma anche all’assenza di separazione tra l'interno dello yacht e gli esterni. Come? Grazie a una superficie vetrata laterale sconfinata, a un layout innovativo soprattutto per la zona di prua, con una soluzione che ribalta l’idea del “davanti” e del “dietro” sulle barche. Qui il cantiere (Infynito 80 è costruito a Marina di Ravenna) propone quella che loro chiamano All Season Terrace, con la possibilità di scegliere fra un sun-deck aperto o semichiuso, dove le murate laterali sono aperte verso il mare.

Il cantiere di Forlì lancia la sua ammiraglia a motore, 23 metri di lunghezza per quasi 6 di larghezza. Un bell’esempio di tipico crossover nautico, difficile imbrigliarla in una delle tradizionali categorie di imbarcazioni: look sportivo, ma lusso e comodità da villa sul mare. Su tutto spicca la zona di poppa che richiama in maniera evidente le soluzioni che siamo abituati a vedere sui grandi superyacht: murate laterali abbattibili, una morbida scalinata che lentamente porta verso il mare, sconfinati spazi per prendere il sole. All’interno le opzioni per l’allestimento prevedono due, tre o quattro cabine, che possono ospitare fino a dieci posti letto, inclusa una doppia per l'equipaggio.

Sanlorenzo SP 92

Il brand di Ameglia aveva stupito tutti con il suo SP 110 proponendo una nuova categoria di superyacht sportivi ma al tempo stesso eleganti. Per questa edizione del festival di Cannes lancia il fratello minore, ma le parole d’ordine sono sempre: velocità (40 nodi, 77 km/h, tantissimo per uno yacht di 27 metri di lunghezza) e interni “sorprendenti” (opera di Piero Lissoni) distribuiti su quattro diversi livelli con un schema totalmente al di fuori da quanto normalmente si vede su scafi questa taglia. L’aspetto più interessante è che visto da fuori (design dello Studio Zuccon) SP 92 è un cavallo da corsa, una volta dentro è una villa dove, l’organizzazione degli spazi è cosi innovativa che si perde quasi l’orientamento.

Saxdor 340 GTWA

Arriva dal Nord Europa, e più esattamente dalla Finlandia, una delle novità più intriganti di Cannes, il Saxdor 340 GTWA. La tipologia è quella delle cosiddette walkaround scandinave, barche fatte per navigare in condizioni estreme e dalle grande efficienza della carena, ma qui la reinterpretazione degli spazi la rende un mezzo perfetto anche per la crociera mediterranea. Murate abbattibili, grande facilità di movimento, facilissimo l’accesso al mare per fare i bagni e tuffarsi. Saxdor è uno dei brand in maggior espansione in Europa e con questo 10 metri dal prezzo molto competitivo (a partire da 169.000 euro) sembra promettere battaglia ai competitor in quella che è probabilmente la fascia di mercato, walkaround non immatricolati, decisamente più agguerrita.

Solaris Power 60 Open

Debutto globale al Cannes Yachting Festival anche per il nuovo arrivato Solaris. Elegantissimo scafo tutto made in Italy che richiama le raffinate linee delle lobster boat della East Coast americana. Due grandi prendisole in coperta, un ampio salottino open air e tra le due e le tre cabine interne ne fanno infatti uno yacht che sa guardare ai bisogni della crociera così come a quelli del day-cruiser. Un 18 metri che sicuramente fa girare la testa per le sue linee particolarissime ma che, come tutte le barche del cantiere di Aquileia, garantisce anche performance di alto livello.

Ferretti Group announces 29m addition to flybridge yacht series

Italian yard Ferretti Group has announced at new, 28.7-metre Ferretti Yachts model at a press conference held at the 2024 Cannes Yachting Festival . Three hulls in the 940 series have been sold so far, the first of which was signed at a recent Private Preview event hosted by the Group.

The Ferretti 940 is an intermediate addition to the shipyard's flybridge series, with the 50-square-metre flybridge – arranged with a fully-equipped galley and bar – at the centre of the model's design. Exterior and interior design are by longstanding collaborators Filippo Salvetti and IdeaeITALIA , respectively.

Full details are undisclosed, but the the Group outlined several key features at the conference: the cockpit, which measures 32 square metres and will be furnished with free-standing furniture; the lower deck, which holds three VIP cabins and one guest cabin; the use of sliding glass doors to connect the galley, the formal dining room and the starboard side.

"She's just amazing. We've managed to design a very sleek, sporty yacht with incredible volume," added the Group's chief commercial officer Stefano de Vivo. "Clients can choose between two interior styles – a more classic approach or something fresh and summery." de Vivo also highlighted the flybridge, particularly the openable hardtop which allows guests greater flexibility in all seasons.

Ferretti Group recently announced the departure of Stefano de Vivo as chief commercial officer of the Group and managing director of its Wally yacht brand. After serving at the company for more than a decade, de Vivo will be leaving to assume the role of chief executive officer at his Family Office on 1 November 2024.
