How much does a 25-metre yacht cost?

Given that the main factors in determining the price of a yacht are its size, age and model type, what is the average cost of a yacht of around 25 metres in length?

How much does a yacht cost to buy and maintain?

Technically, a yacht is a boat longer than 23 feet (7 metres).

Small 12-metre yachts can be bought for around €200,000. It’s the ideal solution for combining comfort and performance for a day’s cruising.

This is a much lower price than for a superyacht, which costs hundreds of millions of euros. For example, for a 100-metre boat, the purchase price is close to €240 million.

Big fuel guzzlers

The more expensive these palaces of the seas are to buy, the more expensive they are to maintain. Diesel consumption is one of the biggest additional costs, because when it comes to fuel consumption, not all ships are created equal. This depends on the weight of the yacht, the quality of its equipment, the navigation instruments on board, and its engine (the engine used and its power).

A 70-metre yacht consumes around 500 litres of fuel per hour. The annual fuel budget in this case comes to 350,000 euros. The same applies to maintenance costs: a complete overhaul of the vessel can cost 500,000 euros!

Mooring costs and crew

There are also mooring costs to consider, which also depend on the size of the vessel. In Monaco’s Port Hercule, for example, these costs can reach €2,500/day (or €38,000/month) during the high season for a 100-metre yacht.

Finally, depending on the size of the boat, there will be more or fewer crew members. Most superyachts have crews of at least 50. Among them, the captain receives the highest emoluments. His annual remuneration ranges from €60,000 to €180,000.

Taken together, these operational costs represent a significant proportion of the total cost of purchasing this type of boat. Generally speaking, it is estimated that these costs represent an amount equivalent to 10% of the purchase price of the vessel each year.

On the second-hand market, yachts of around 25 metres in length can be sold for between €500,000 and €1,500,000, depending on the age of the vessel.

In terms of charter, for a yacht of this size you’re looking at between €20,000 and €80,000 per week.

A blessing in disguise? The best deals for yachts of this size are to be found following judicial seizures of a boat for unpaid charter. In La Rochelle, where the courts had the Spirit of Ziana seized for non-payment of mooring fees by her owners (€200,000 in unpaid rent), she was offered for sale for the modest sum of €25,000… a price that defies all competition, given that it is normally that of a quality semi-rigid.

The price of a 25-metre yacht depends on a number of factors, including the size of the boat, the number of sails and the nautical equipment. It could be a simple boat with one cabin, or a true luxury vessel with several cabins, all equipped with the latest technology and comfort. You need to consider the destination, as sailing in tropical waters is more expensive than in the northern seas.

When you cruise, you often need a skipper and crew, which can add considerably to the price. Then there’s the cost of the crew, maintenance, fuel and insurance.

But if you want a luxury boat, the price will be much higher and could reach 10 million euros. It’s important to note that buying a yacht isn’t just about money. You’ll also need to factor in maintenance and insurance costs, which can be very high.
