The Feadship motor yacht AIR has the distinction of being the largest Feadship ever available for luxury mega yacht charter. The 81 meter Feadship yacht AIR features styling by De Voogt Naval Architects.  She is in full safety compliance with the large yacht commercial code (MCA). Additionally, with Lloyds Register class.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Built by Feadship Koninklijke De Vries, the luxurious motor yacht AIR features modern interior design by Remier Tessier Design, France. Accommodations for 12 guests are provided in seven staterooms, including a split-level master suite. There are two guest cabins on the upper deck. In addition, one on the main deck, and three more on the lower deck.

Onboard amenities include a sundeck pool and an adjacent fully-equipped gym. An elevator provides access to all decks. There is also a massage room and a steam room. Transportation to and from the superyacht by air is to a certified helicopter pad.  In addition, it accommodates commercially-operated helicopters.

The yacht carries an extensive inventory of water toys. For instance, two tenders, two wave runners, and two Laser sailing Dinghies.  In addition, sea kayaks and various towables.

Private yacht AIR  has an exceptionally sleek and elegant exterior with modern lines, a unique matt black steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. She measures 81 meters (265.7 feet) in length and has a beam of 11.6m. She is the largest yacht ever to be built at the yard as well as being the largest Feadship available for charter. Yacht AIR’s luxurious, highly sophisticated and minimalistic interior, created by Remi Tessier Design, is stunning and is enhanced by impressive artwork, large windows and open doorways. The main materials used include matt-finished sycamore, leather, matt-finished special paint, high gloss stainless steel, palladium leaf, back-lit white onyx, off-white and black limestone and a wealth of carved glass. AIR is extremely spacious and can accommodate 12 guests in 7 large staterooms including an impressive split level owner’s suite, two guest cabins on the upper deck, one on the main deck and three on the lower deck. The owner's observation lounge boasts a breath-taking view over the eight-metre long pool on the vast main deck forward area. The magnificent sun deck offers a well-equipped gym, lounging areas aft and forward with Jacuzzi, and a 102” pop-up television screen for outdoor movie viewing. AIR is the first superyacht built under Annex 2 of LY2 to have a fully certified commercial helicopter pad. Other features of the yacht include an elevator to all decks, massage and steam rooms and a large foldable swimming platform with bar. She carries two 9.8-metre tenders in dedicated and fully enclosed bays.

Which yacht is right for my guests and me.

Must I always charter a yacht for a week at a time?

While it is standard to charter a yacht on a weekly basis, you can certainly select a charter to do otherwise. Sail for less than a week or longer.

How many guests can I bring aboard my yacht charter?

International Marine regulation indicates that for most yachts, the maximum number of guests aboard is 12. If you wish to bring a larger party of guests, simply consult your PYC broker to assist you in finding a yacht that can sizably accommodate everyone on board.

What is a crewed charter?

A crewed charter is a continual crew aboard a luxury yacht comprised of a captain, trained crewmembers, hostesses, deckhands, and engineers.

What is a bareboat charter?

To rent a charter bareboat means to be without a crew or occasionally, without a skipper. A bareboat charter indicates that you plan on skippering and navigating the vessel yourself.

Is it customary to tip the captain and the crew?

It is not an obligation to tip the captain or the crew and is solely voluntary. If you find that crewmembers and the captain have performed exceptionally, and you would like to tip, it is customary to tip 10% to 15% of the total charter amount on your last sailing day.

To whom do I give the tip to?

It is advisable that if you so choose to give a tip to the crew, that you gift the money directly to the captain. By doing so, you will avoid causing discord amongst crewmembers and ensure that each crewmember receives an equal amount of the tip.

Can my guests and I enjoy all of the yacht’s amenities while on board?

Yes, you and your guests are welcomed to enjoy all of the amenities while on board your luxury yacht charter and are encouraged to do so.

What is my charter rate?

Your charter rate will be quoted per week, but if you wish to sail for a longer or shorter amount of time, please consult your yacht broker for rate pricing.

Are there costs that my charter rate does not immediately list upfront?

There will be costs that are not included in the charter rate that must be calculated at the conclusion of your trip. These costs can include fuel, VAT, provisions, and marina, harbor, or canal fees.

What is the cancelation policy?

Different contracts have varying policies on cancelation. The MYBA contract dictates that the owner can decidedly retain your deposit or the entirety of your charter fee. If I have paid the entire charter fee before indicating a cancelation, the owner is entitled to retain it but must return the APA.

How do I go about planning land excursions during my luxury yacht vacation?

Your PYC charter consultant will be happy to assist you in planning any excursions and additional activities for you and your guests.

Lazzarini reveals 150m airship-style superyacht concept powered by helium gas

Italian design studio Lazzarini has unveiled a flying superyacht concept powered by helium, named Air Yacht.

Constructed in carbon fibre, the concept is made up of two 150 metre airships that are connected via four bridges to a central 80 metre hull.

The two “floating balloons” are divided into hives that store helium gas. When in flight, the compressed helium is released and can provide enough propulsion for journeys of up to 48 hours at 60 knots. When cruising on the water, the Air Yacht “sails quietly” at five knots.

Speaking about the concept, the studio said: “With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future.” With kerosene the fuel of choice for most planes, Air Yacht sees Lazzarini attempting to offer a “greener option”.

The concept has all the amenities found on a regular luxury yacht, with the central hull hosting a large dining area and living space. Above sits a helipad with an accompanying helicopter. 

Meanwhile the two airships each have large windows, affording guests a view of their surroundings when in flight.

Accommodation on board the concept is for a total of 22 guests in 11 cabins, comprising of five en suite staterooms on each airship and a master cabin located in the central area with a 360 degree view.

“It’s not intended for touristic purposes,” the studio added. “It’s for a private owner who wants both a superyacht and evolution in aviation.”

Lazzarini has unveiled a number of extreme designs in the past year including a 127 metre swan-inspired superyacht concept and a 69 metre concept with a giant hole in its superstructure.

Luxury In The 1960s: A Look At The Howard 500

Italians are renowned for being at the forefront of design innovation . The new "Air Yacht" concept, developed by the Italian design studio Pierpaolo Lazzarini, is the latest proof of this incredible capacity. As the name suggests, the new Air Yacht is both a yacht that can sail the sea and a private jet that can fly its owner across the world. Let's have a closer look at this astonishing piece of futuristic design together.

The structure of the Sky Yacht

It might sound like sci-fiction, but it is true. Or, at least, the blueprint is already a reality. The Italian design studio Lazzarini has developed a luxurious and eco-friendly flying yacht. But what would it look like?

Imagine a 150-meter-long vessel connected by four bridges to two side blimps for a total width of 80 meters. Each of the two floating blimps would be divided into hives, or cells, acting as helium compartments. Indeed, when the private owner of the Air Yacht wants to take to the sky, all they have to do is release helium, compressed in tanks, in the two blimps.

On the other hand, when the owner is tired of seeing the world from above, they can decide to sail the sea. Indeed, in the lower part, the two balloons incorporate inflatable bases to allow the Air Yacht to float on the water. The depressurization of helium and its ballast anchor enables the Air Yacht to sail at a speed of five knots.

Four counter-rotating engines of 950 horsepower (hp) each are attached to the outer sides of the blimps. These are powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels, allowing the Air Yacht to fly at a maximum speed of 60 knots for more than two days straight at zero emissions . Additionally, the entire structure has been designed to be built using carbon fiber, a high-strength and lightweight material.

With the use of helium, lightweight batteries, solar panels for the propulsion of the four engines, and lightweight carbon for the structure, the Air Yacht is at the forefront of sustainable air travel. In a statement, Lazzarini design studio stated:

"With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future"

The Sky yacht's living spaces

If the external structure of the Air Yacht has the 'wow' factor, wait until you see what's inside...

The central, 80-meter-long, torpedo-shaped structure hosts a spacious living room and a dining room. Four carbon-made bridges, two on each side of the main structure, connect it to the two side blimps. Here, the owner's guests can find ten en-suite staterooms, five in each balloon. All ten suites offer breathtaking 360-degree views. The owner's master cabin, shown in the photo below, is instead located in the Air Yacht's central part, also offering a stunning 360-degree view.

Therefore, the Air Yacht can host up to 22 guests in 11 cabins. On the rooftop, guests will enjoy a swimming pool, while a helipad enables helicopters to take off and land to transfer the owner and their guests to the dry land. Indeed, the Air Yacht's dimensions prevent it from being parked at a marina. Besides the helipad, the Air Yacht also features a retractable staircase, allowing the guests to board a smaller boat to reach the harbor.

The estimated price of the Air Yacht is a whopping $627,511,500. Pierpaolo Lazzarini has promised the private owner who has commissioned the Air Yacht, a German businessman, to have a first-scale model prototype lifted in the air by the end of 2022. Additionally, a series of varying designs with different lengths is in the early phases of the engineering and prototyping process.

​​The World’s First “Air Yacht” Would Sail in the Sky and Sea (With Zero Emissions)

Yachts and private planes make for luxurious ways to zip from one place to another, but recently, a businessman based in Germany and Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini discovered what happens when they combine boats and jets: the ultra-sleek sky yacht. Equipped with eight counter-rotating electric engines powered by super-lightweight batteries and solar panels, the nearly 500-foot-long yacht can traverse the sky (and sea) at 60 knots for more than two days straight with zero emissions. Plus, aside from its full-electric mobility, the air yacht is sustainable in other ways too: It will be built entirely from carbon fiber, which is as high-strength as it is lightweight.

The 500-foot futuristic vessel comprises three main parts: a central compartment with a living room and dining area flanked by two inflatable helium blimps that house 10 suites.

Lazzarini’s design looks like something out of the future: a spacious living room and dining area housed within the sky yacht’s central torpedo-shaped structure that’s connected via eight carbon bridges (four on each side) to two 150-foot-long blimps. And the blimps that contain a whopping 14,125,867 cubic feet of helium that keep the vessel high in the sky, flanking the main compartment, aren’t just there to elevate the jet: Between the two, there are 10 guest suites, all of which boast 360-degree views.

The two balloon-like compartments on either side of the impressive vessel comprise an inflatable base that allows the innovative machine to float atop the water surface when the owner is in the mood to sail the sea versus the sky. Though being able to choose which medium makes the most sense for specific destinations sounds like an ideal way to travel, the sky yacht is, unfortunately, still quite a ways off from replacing typical ships and planes. 

The enormous sky yacht is too big to simply park at a marina while its guests climb aboard, so it comes equipped with a retractable staircase.  

For the private owner who commissioned the estimated $627,511,500 sky yacht, however, his new mode of transportation is the way of the future. In fact, Lazzarini has promised that a first-scale model prototype will lift into the air later this year, and a collection of slightly varying designs (of different lengths) is currently in the early phases of both engineering and prototyping. So, perhaps we’ll all be passengers onboard a boat that flies before the end of the decade.

Less than a century ago, the airship was the symbol of elegant travel, gliding silently across the skies. The explosion of the Hindenburg changed the fate of airships in an instant, giving them the reputation of floating bombs.

A number of companies in the U.S. and Europe are trying to stage a comeback for these floating giants, marketing them not only as an antidote to loud, emissions-spewing jets, but also as a much more civilized way to travel.

The Airship 2.0 is certainly a different beast from the zeppelin of 100 years ago. The latest generation relies on non-combustible helium, and bulletproof materials that like vectran, mylar and kevlar to make the balloon both lightweight and durable.

The Airlander 10, which is ready for production, promises a much more civilized way to travel by air than jets.  Hybrid Air Vehicles

Companies like Flying Whale in France and U.S.-based Skunk Works, the research arm of Lockheed Martin, are designing airships to carry cargo and medical supplies to remote locations around the world. Skunk Works says its airships could be used as passenger carriers if buyers want to modify them after purchasing the design.

California-based Aeroscraft has a 220-ft. airship in production that uses solar power for propulsion. The company says it can be used for jaunts, such as trips between Hawaiian islands. Aeroscraft forecasts that it will be another three to five years before its airship receives FAA certification for passenger travel.

The company has also been working on concepts like the Neona, a futuristic, donut-shaped flying saucer. More UFO than floating superyacht , the company did not give a timeline for when Neona might go into production.

California-based Aeroscraft makes a traditional-looking airship, but is also working on the flying-saucer-shaped Neona as a personal sky yacht.  Aeroscraft

A U.K. company is leading the charge for creating airships that will undertake passenger journeys, much like a cruise ship or yacht. Hybrid Air Vehicles said its floating goliaths will offer private passenger travel beginning in 2024. These full-featured airships will have lounges, master suites, offices and spas. The company says it will also offer sushi counters or in-room refrigerators for long-distance cruises.

HAV has launched a full-scale prototype of its Airlander 10 and has a much larger airship, the Airlander 60, for transporting cargo. The Airlander 10 has a base price of $50 million, while models with full specs cost an additional $10 to $20 million. The company says it has 15 letters of intent for the airships, though it has yet to sign any private individuals. Luxury travel groups plan to use them for safaris, hopping from one camp to the next, or another operator wants to fly the airships from Svalbard, Norway, and land near the North Pole.

Since  airships   don’t need runways, they are perfect for out-of-the-way destinations or hopping between private islands. These levitating leviathans can reach 300 feet in length, with cabin space of about 150 feet. They’re much slower than airplanes, though they still cruise at about 80 mph.

“Our ability to operate without runways means that we can fly point-to-point,” company spokesperson Rebecca Zeitlin told Robb Report . “That means that someone with an estate outside London and a chateau in the French countryside can make a much more direct journey than London to Paris.”

The  airships   are delivered with helium and are topped up every year as part of the regular maintenance schedule. “They’re rather like a superyacht, with the same level of luxury inside,” says Zeitlin .  “We like to think of it as a fast yacht rather than a slow aircraft .”

The sad and lonely lives of the world’s richest kids

Imagine growing up in isolation in a mansion near Lake Valdai, north-west of Moscow. Your only visitors are your private tutors for music, swimming and gymnastics, and you never interact with other children. Every time you travel it’s by armoured train, private jet or yacht , protected at all times by elite officers. And you rarely ever see your mother or father. This is reportedly the experience of Vladimir Putin’s two secret sons, Ivan, aged nine, and Vladimir Jr, five.

Although the Russian president is famously tight-lipped about his personal life, last week The Dossier Centre – a project launched by Russian opposition figure Mikhail Khodorkovsky  – revealed details of the lives of Putin’s two sons with his rumoured mistress, the Olympic gymnast Alina Kabaeva.

Putin divorced his wife, Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Ocheretnaya, in 2013 after three decades of marriage, and although he has publicly acknowledged having two daughters with her – Maria, 39, and Katerina, 38 – he rarely talks about them. Now it has come to light that he also has two young sons , who are subject to even greater secrecy, and have been kept under wraps since birth.

According to The Dossier Centre, the boys can’t be found in state databases as “they have had the kind of cover documents typically made for spies and people under state protection”. They live a life of almost total isolation, and the Russian leader’s older son, Ivan, “mostly plays alone or with the adults”.

Although they rarely spend time with their parents, Ivan is said to play in ice hockey matches with his father. Despite Putin’s criticism of Western animation, Ivan has found his own way to rebel – he is reportedly a fan of Disney cartoons and movies and enjoys dressing up as his favourite characters.

It sounds like an incredibly lonely and sad existence, even when your Papochka has a reported $200 billion (£154 billion) in the bank. But the Putin boys are just an extreme example of the feelings of isolation often experienced by the offspring of the uber-wealthy.

Most of us might find it hard to muster sympathy for those set to inherit billions, but not Clay Cockrell. He’s a therapist to “ultra-high-net-worth individuals” in Manhattan and says he feels pity “on a daily basis” for his clients who grew up in extreme wealth. “It’s unnatural, it’s unhealthy, and it can be damaging, toxic and even deadly,” he says. “Look at how many of these people die from suicide or drug overdoses.”

Cockrell says that while it’s human for all parents to want to protect their children and stop them experiencing hardships, when you eliminate all the challenges, you risk a child not developing resilience. “This leads to an inner fragility and a lot of self-doubt,” he explains. “Knowing you will inherit a huge amount of money also robs you of your sense of ambition and accomplishment.”

Indeed, the side effects of “affluenza” are very real. A study published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence found that the children of the very rich experience higher levels of pressure to succeed than their peers, and higher levels of anxiety and depression. A report from  Arizona State University found that privileged kids were more likely to develop addictions to alcohol, cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy compared with national norms.

But unlike mere mortals, “poor little rich kids” have their own luxury rehab centres to check into. Think of the discreet clinic in Iceland  Succession ’s Kendall Roy goes to, to “decompress”. Paul Flynn is the chief executive and co-founder of Harbor London, a concept clinic in Belgravia which looks more like a five-star hotel suite, with a back entrance for high-profile clients. Flynn specialises in treating addiction, and his clinic caters to children of the one per cent from all over the world.

“I’d say around half the people we treat are children of ultra-wealthy families,” he says. “The classic case is someone in their early 20s, with that failure-to-launch kind of problem – when you’re from a wealthy family so you have no drive – but that’s not always the case. We recently treated a guy who was outwardly very successful and running the family business. But because it was his father’s business, he always had feelings of failure and inadequacy, and was abusing drugs and alcohol to cope.”

For £60,000-90,000 a week, clients – some of whom are as young as 16 – are treated by a personalised one-to-one treatment squad including a psychiatrist, a yoga teacher, a “neuro-feedback practitioner” and a chef . Some clients stay as long as six months and have an intensive after-care programme when they leave.

“When your identity is wrapped up in wealth, it can be an enormous burden,” says Flynn. “You can feel ashamed of it, you might be constantly worrying about people’s intentions. You might feel there are no authentic relationships in your life.”

Historically, many of the families who have topped the rich lists have also topped the most dysfunctional lists, too. Growing up a Getty was certainly no picnic – John Paul III killed himself with drink and drugs and could never recover from his kidnapping ordeal. Sir Paul Getty, the British philanthropist, struggled for decades with substance abuse.

One person who has spoken extensively about the challenges of growing up with more money than you could ever spend is Abigail Disney, 64. The granddaughter of Roy O Disney (co-founder of The Walt Disney Company) has given away $70 million since she turned 21, and says: “I don’t want a private jet, because it hollows you out from the inside.”

“I feel hyper-conscious about what wealth does to people,” she says. “You end up being surrounded by people who don’t tell you ‘no’, ever. And as my father’s drinking problem grew, he was surrounded by people who wouldn’t say, ‘You have a terrible drinking problem. You need to go get some help.’”

Abigail Disney has talked about the inferiority complex that rich kids with famous last names often feel. “I did grow up with this doubt about myself. Like, did Yale really say yes because I was that good, or did Yale say yes because of my last name? I’ll never know,” she says. “And in every interaction, I never get to make a first impression because people have already thought about what they want to think about you.”

“Growing up with immense wealth can feel like you’re constantly under scrutiny and can’t make mistakes,” says Hilda Burke, psychotherapist. “There’s a real lack of accountability and autonomy, because there’s always someone ready to swoop in and pay to make problems go away. Often with these types of clients you can see real emotional deprivation and poorly formed attachments, because all the child-rearing has been outsourced to nannies and boarding schools. It’s definitely a double-edged sword.”

According to The Dossier Centre, the Putin family reportedly advertised for an English teacher for the boys, with a monthly salary of $8,500. The ad indicated that the family prefers candidates with a South African passport and says the family “lives in isolation”.

Ellen (not her real name), 27, is a tutor for the children of Russian oligarchs and says she feels nothing but sympathy for her “overworked and overindulged” charges. “I’ve seen 16-year-olds with electrodes stuck on their heads to stimulate brain waves because their parents thought it would help them do better in their exams,” she says. “Many of them live without their parents in massive empty mansions in London, playing video games all day and night because there’s no one to tell them what to do. It’s a very sad and empty life.”

As the realm of the mega-wealthy grows ever larger –  Forbes estimates a current global population of more than 2,700 billionaires whose collective wealth equals some $14 trillion – there is growing evidence that children of the affluent are becoming increasingly troubled. It might be the epitome of a first-world problem, but “inheritance guilt” is becoming so common that wealth therapists have sprung up to help the children of the super-rich deal with their unique set of problems.

Amanda Falkson is a psychotherapist who specialises in advising people who have inherited a fortune. “Money can disconnect people. It can make them feel set apart socially, which is why they often keep old friends around them,” she says. “It’s common to see them add these friends somehow onto the payroll, which, while well meant, naturally creates its own complicated dynamic.”

But some “poor little rich kids” have turned their ivory tower upbringings to their advantage. Yoko Ono grew up in a life of isolation and immense privilege as the child of one of Japan’s biggest banking dynasties. In her childhood home, Kudan House, up to 20 servants would wait on her, but she had no friends. “It didn’t occur to me that I was supposed to play with people,” she said. But she has credited her lonely childhood with inspiring her creativity.

Many uber-wealthy parents are now realising the curse that comes with inheriting a huge sum, and doing everything they can not to pass their money on to their kids. When Warren Buffett pledged in 2006 that he would be giving away 99 per cent of his now $145 billion fortune, he shocked the world. But it’s becoming increasingly common. In 2010 he joined with Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates to create the Giving Pledge. To date, 244 wealthy people from 30 countries have promised to contribute a majority of their money to philanthropic causes.

Buffett’s youngest son, Peter, who is now 66 and a successful composer, said he didn’t even realise his father had amassed so much wealth until he was 25. “We never thought about an inheritance. We never assumed we would be getting anything at any time, and we weren’t bitter or thinking that we should for some reason,” he said. “We just grew up in a house where you work hard and you make your way in life and hopefully you have a well-lived life based on all sorts of criteria.”

Most of us might not have to worry about our children inheriting billions, but the struggles of the super-wealthy reveal that there are lessons for all of us around talking about money with your children. “It’s important to teach children how to handle money, however much a family has,” says Clay Cockrell. “It’s key to expose them to another world, especially when you’re wealthy and they’re only associating with other privileged children. So many of my clients who grew up in extreme wealth say, ‘I knew we had money, but we never discussed it’. That’s an important first step.”
