Below Deck Mediterranean Season 8 in Italy onboard motor yacht MUSTIQUE

Premiered on 25 September, Bravo’s hit series delivers yet another season of drama and even some chaotic franchise firsts onboard the 180-feet motor yacht MUSTIQUE  by Trinity Yachts. With Captain Sandy and her crew, she cruises the Italian Riviera amidst the meltdowns, hookups, and partying. 

This season is based out of Genoa where MUSTIQUE sailed back in mid-August until mid-September of last year. Anchoring in Santa Margherita, Sestri Levante, and La Spezia near Portofino , charter guests enjoyed the stunning views of the Ligurian province’s colorful fishing towns and cliffsides. 

Equally beautiful were the facilities aboard this season’s luxury charter yacht , which was designed by Dee Robinson. While it was refitted in 2018, MUSTIQUE still retains much of her elegant interiors from the original construction in 2005. Viewers of Below Deck Mediterranean will be able to admire the yacht’s classical mahogany paneling set against cream carpets and upholstery, as well as the bathrooms’ marbled surfaces.

Finely balancing the classic with the contemporary, MUSTIQUE is a luxury yacht capable of delivering the best of everything.

The megayacht has 6 cabins that can hold 12 guests in 9 beds with a crew of 12. Its special features include a baby grand piano and a deck jacuzzi, which guarantees to keep charter guests as entertained as those who Captain Sandy and her crew served. With its full-displacement steel hull, MUSTIQUE offers guests a much more stable onboard experience at anchor. It also has an advanced stabilization system which reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht, promising guests comfort even while cruising at a speed of 12 knots. 

When Below Deck’s featured guests weren’t cruising, they could enjoy the truly extensive selection of water toys onboard MUSTIQUE: after soaking up the sun on her chic sundeck, the luxury yacht invites guests to soar over the water on Zapata Flyboards or Yamaha FX WaveRunner; MUSTIQUE also has waterskis, a seabob, paddleboards, and much more. 

This year's season of  Below Deck Mediterranean  was based out of Genoa , an historical maritime city which is a popular stop-off on Mediterranean charters owing to its ornate palazzos and stunning medieval buildings. Charter guests were then taken down along the coast to small seaside towns like  Sestri Levante and Santa Margherita , which is home to a pretty palm-laden promenade that visitors can stroll along with an Italian coffee in hand from one of the local cafes. While this year's guests did not visit Portofino, this is the most popular destination in the Ligurian Province  and a must-see for Italian charters. What’s one thing about working and living on a boat that would surprise people?  "The show reveals it all, so no surprises there."

Kyle Viljoen — Stew

Jack luby — chef.

What is your wildest charter guest story from your career? "A main charter guest had been fishing and caught some sea urchin. He put it in the galley while I was away, and I threw it away. The next morning, he asked for a sea urchin omelette so I woke up the diver and forced him to dive in the sea and get me a sea urchin."

What was your first impression of Mustique ? "The galley was one of the best I’ve worked in so far. It really gave me a chance to showcase the best of my skills and abilities."

What’s one thing about working and living on a boat that would surprise people?  "During charter you really work and earn your money. Off charter, it’s easy to forget about reality. You start thinking you own the yacht yourself."

Jessika Asai — Stew

Hometown: Hilo, HI  

Birth date: May 16

What is your wildest charter guest story from your career? "One guest wanted to do the flyboard and ended up flying so high that he fell onto a jet ski and broke his shoulder and ribs."

What was your first impression of Mustique ?  "It was an old classic boat and still looking good."

Favorite place you’ve been on charter/place you traveled?  "To charter, for sure Bonifacio. To where I’ve traveled to, Bali."

What’s one thing about working and living on a boat that would surprise people?  "All the different personalities and pressure on one small boat can be a recipe for disaster."

Lara Du Preez — Deckhand

Per the official press release for Season 8, drama is on the horizon for the aforementioned Mustique crew members.

"Set amidst the mesmerizing Italian Riviera and the historic façade of Genoa, Italy, it's all hands on deck this season for Capt[ain] Sandy and her team," the release reads. "From outrageous guests to after-hours antics , the boat gets rocked throughout each charter as the crew navigates complicated dynamics and unexpected rifts. In a franchise first, unprecedented staffing changes dominate the season, which tests each department as they struggle to find their sea legs through unforeseen turnover."  

"Sandy levels up this season with the 180-foot M/Y Mustique , which challenges her deck crew as they attempt to navigate the busy industrial port with utmost precision. Before they even leave the dock, visa issues tie up two crew members while a department head mismanages important paperwork. Sandy leans on temporary help for the first charter and an unexpected shake-up results in a change of hierarchy. On deck, the crew is overwhelmed by their workload on the oversized vessel as the interior deals with a clash of personalities. Chef Jack wows the guests with his impressive take on local Italian fare, but things start to sour when communication goes south..."

Captain Sandy and her crew are ready to set sail again.

Captain Sandy Yawn is back for Below Deck Mediterranean season 8. After a thrilling season in Below Deck Med season 7 , and after stepping in for Captain Lee in Below Deck season 10 , Sandy is about to set sail on the beautiful Italian Riviera in a brand new vessel, the Motor Yacht Mustique. 

While every captain hopes for smooth sailing, Sandy is in for rough waters before the boat even leaves port after via issues sideline a couple crew members and puts the new crew in unchartered waters ahead of the very first charter.

The next new episode of Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 airs Monday, January 22, at 9 pm ET/PT.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 episode 16: "Guess Who's Coming for Dinnner?" "On the season finale, the chief stew entrusts two crew members with the task of organizing an epic foam party for the guests. However, when the guests finally arrive, the party falls short of expectations. The bosun lands himself in hot water when he’s caught texting again. The crew’s final night out takes a shocking turn, leaving the bosun to make a difficult decision."

Things get heated between two deckhands during an anchor pull, resulting in Capt. Sandy wanting to intervene. "

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 episode 6: "Pirate's Booty Call" "The whole crew is involved in an elaborate pirate-themed day for the charter guests. The Bosun’s cool-under-pressure vibe is challenged during a very tight docking. The Chief Stew and Chef hit their stride as a team while a stew starts to redefine their friendships within the department. The Bosun and a stew finally kiss, challenging the stew’s feelings about their open relationship."

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 episode 7: "Tightly Unwound" "Some of the crew take notice of a group of attractive young women chartering the yacht. A miscommunication between the chief stewardess and the interior department leaves them uncertain. Capt. Sandy has an accident that could impact the rest of the charter season."

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 episode 8: "Who Needs Frenemies" "The bosun causes confusion when he shifts his romantic focus. The chef gives into temptation. The charter guests continue the festivities with the crew after the charter ends. An argument between the crew could be the one that ends friendships."

Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 episode 9: "Ciao for Now" "The crew’s day off at a beach resort is fraught with tension and division, lingering from the previous night’s kerfuffle. The bosun’s new romance ignites. A crew member confesses their frustrations and puts Capt. Sandy in a difficult position."

Sandy gives it her all trying to persuade a deckhand to stay on the boat; in scenic Portofino, the deckhands face their most challenging docking yet; a stew thinks the chef is out to get them."

In a franchise first, unprecedented staffing changes dominate the season, which tests each department as they struggle to find their sea legs through unforeseen turnover.

"Sandy levels up this season with the 180-foot M/Y Mustique, which challenges her deck crew as they attempt to navigate the busy industrial port with utmost precision. Before they even leave the dock, visa issues tie up two crew members while a department head mismanages important paperwork. Sandy leans on temporary help for the first charter and an unexpected shake-up results in a change of hierarchy. On deck, the crew is overwhelmed by their workload on the oversized vessel as the interior deals with a clash of personalities. Chef Jack wows the guests with his impressive take on local Italian fare, but things start to sour when communication goes south.

In the Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 trailer, Natalya and Chief Stew Tumi get into heated arguments throughout the charter season. Tumi blasts Natalya's organization skills , calling it a " sh*t show ," while Natalya replies, " Don't do this with me ." Tumi also says to Natalya, " You have been attacking me since day one ," to where the second stew claps back, " You stepped on board with the worst attitude ." The Chief Stew reminds her fellow crew member that it's her first time in the position saying, " I have never come across a crew this crazy and I don't think I ever will. "

Below Deck Mediterranean has been on the air for a while, and has a long history of dramatic moments on the show. In previous seasons, former crew members like Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier was fired for bringing Valium on board, which is against maritime laws. Chef Mila Kolomeitseva was also let go from the boat on Below Deck Mediterranean season 4 for making dishes that weren't up to the standards of a luxury yacht.

On Below Deck Mediterranean, fresh new yachties are welcomed each season to shake things up. However, the crew members who have appeared on the show together before like Natalya and Kyle will further explore their relationship as co-workers this season. With all the drama surrounding Below Deck Mediterranean season 8, it's certain to be a season that's worth the watch.
