How to Visit the Burj al Arab: The World’s Most Luxurious Hotel, Dubai

I’m not a girl who dreams about hotels. I have some friends who work in the luxury hotel industry and they wax poetic about hotels they dream of visiting someday — hotels with plunge pools overlooking mountains, glass-bottomed overwater bungalows, and 50,000 thread count sheets.

Me? I get their fascination, but hotels aren’t my thing, and they don’t dominate my travel wishlist…

Except for one.

The Burj al Arab in Dubai . I had to visit the Burj al Arab — and when I went to Dubai, I finally got to visit.

And I’m going to show you how you can, too.

The Burj al Arab Hotel in Dubai

The Burj al Arab, Jumeirah

The Burj al Arab is one of Dubai’s most famous landmarks, its sailboat-shaped silhouette emerging from the sea. It’s one of the most elegant properties in a city known for modern marvels of engineering.

The hotel, which opened in 1999, declared itself the world’s first seven-star hotel — even though that rating technically doesn’t exist. Why not make up a rating? It’s excellent PR! The Burj al Arab is over-the-top in every way possible.

From the first time I saw a picture of the Burj al Arab, I dreamed of visiting it. But it was WAY out of my price range.

Maybe I could just drop in and gawk at the interior, like I did so many times in Las Vegas and Macau. Would that work? Unfortunately, no again.

The Burj Al Arab is open to hotel guests exclusively — and there’s security at the front gate. If your name isn’t on their list, they won’t let you in.

The hotel may be open to hotel guests only — but I found out there IS an exception.

You can make a reservation for afternoon tea — and that puts your name on the list for security! In fact, this works for meals at any of their restaurants. I visited the Burj Al Arab for afternoon tea and absolutely LOVED it!

High tea in the Skyview Bar

Afternoon Tea at the Burj al Arab

The Burj Al Arab offers a Sky Tea afternoon tea — an experience on the 27th floor overlooking the coastline.

The Burj’s PR team generously invited me to experience their Sky Tea afternoon tea  in the Skyview Bar on the 27th floor, overlooking the coastline with a view of the Burj Khalifa in the far distance.

I started my tea with something I had never tried before: sparkling date juice.

Sparkling Date Juice

“You won’t believe where this is made,” our waiter told me.

“No idea. Lebanon?”

“France,” he said with a grin.

“No way.”

“Yes, they make it there. The dates are from the Middle East, though.”

After the sparkling date juice, they brought a pot of tea and a cappuccino and I was treated to the following courses:

High tea in Dubai

We started with a mini berry tart, then moved on to the chef’s carvery of roast beef, and were finally served a tray with sandwiches and desserts shaped like the Burj Al Arab itself!

The offerings were creative and delicious. That zebra-looking bread is actually made of squid ink and pureed apples! Incredible. (And there are free refills on the sandwiches, so to speak.)

And then it was time for a tower of desserts — in ANOTHER tray shaped like the Burj al Arab itself!

Starting from top to bottom, I began with the absolute best scones and clotted cream I’ve ever had (and having lived a year and a half in the UK, that is a HUGE deal).

Next was a selection of cakes.

The best item on the Burj al Arab afternoon tea menu was the sweetest dish of all: camel milk creme brûlée.

Birthday in the UAE

By that point, though, I had eaten so much that I was struggling to get through my final delicious bites.

A surprise came out — a birthday cake! I had celebrated my 29th birthday the day before, and it was a sweet way to add to the occasion.

And finally, the palate-cleansing dish that almost made me burst — lychee and rose sorbet.

I was DONE. Stuffed, sated, and absolutely full of sugar.

Burj al Arab Tour

Is it possible to tour the Burj Al Arab? Somewhat. When you visit the Burj al Arab for afternoon tea, or a meal at any of their other restaurants, you’re greeted with a view from the lobby, and there are some places that are open to visit.

The Burj al Arab entrance and lobby impressed me right off the bat with enormous gold pillars and dancing fountains.

I was able to see a bit beyond that due to my travel industry connections. The PR team for the Burj Al Arab invited me on a tour of some of their best suites.

I almost didn’t want to leave the lobby! How cool of a lobby is that? The honeycomb-style grid is very rare in hotels, and here it was! An amazing design element. The Burj al Arab is all about breathtaking grandeur.

Experience the best thing to do in Dubai

Inside Burj al Arab’s Second Most Fanciest Suite

In 2012, CNN named the Burj al Arab’s Royal Suite the 12th most expensive hotel suite in the world with a nightly rate of around $18,716. That is quite a chunk of change!

The Royal Suite was actually booked during my visit, despite it being the lowest point of low season (Ramadan plus the middle of the summer). Instead, I went to see one of their #2 suites.

It starts with a grand foyer and merges into multiple sitting rooms with many bars, adjoined to offices complete with Mac desktops.

Foyer of the Burj al Arab

Burj al Arab Rooms

I was surprised to see that there was so much color in the suites of the Burj Al Arab! I was expecting something a bit more muted, but this turned up the volume to 11!

The suite has two ensuite bedrooms and the master bedroom was spectacular! I can’t tell you how hard it was not to jump on that purple canopied bed. It looks like something Samantha the American Girl doll would have had.

The master bathroom was equally as impressive as the rest of the suite. How much would you love for this to be your bathroom?! Look at the size of that tub!

I’m hoping I can do “purple mosaic and gold” as a theme for a future bathroom renovation.

The guest bedroom isn’t too shabby either. It kind of gives me Superman vibes — the type of place he would stay if he had a ton of money.

The guest bathroom there was particularly memorable. How would you like a mosaic on your bathroom wall?

I remarked that I really liked the shadow clock that was projected onto the wall. Turns out these clocks were such popular items that the Burj al Arab began selling them to their guests!

Would you like to have one of those clocks on YOUR wall?

Best Photo to Take in the Burj al Arab

After leaving the suite, I went to the spa floor, where you’ll be able to take the best picture of the hotel. This should be one of your priorities.

To get here, take the elevator to the spa floor and walk around the perimeter to the lobby. Stand next to the white piano and you’ll be in a perfect position.

The result is the photo above.

One reader remarked to me that the Burj al Arab would be more toward the taste of Eastern tourists with its penchant for gold-dripped anything. Well, I’m a Leo — in my opinion, you can’t have too much gold!

But it’s true that gold does tend to reflect the design aesthetic of the up-and-coming billionaire regions of the world like China, India, and Russia. Years ago, the Burj al Arab catered foremost to wealthy American tourists, we were told. In time, however, their customer base has shifted toward wealthy Russians and Chinese.

You don’t get a lot of presidents or royalty staying here — it tends to be the super-rich rather than the super-powerful.

Where to Book Afternoon Tea at the Burj al Arab

There are two seatings for Afternoon Tea daily. The first is at 1 PM and the second is at 4 PM. The Sky Tea costs 635 Dirham ($173) for adults and 315 Dirham ($85) for children under the age of 11.

You can easily make your reservation for afternoon tea here. That will give you the all-important name on the list that will get you into the hotel itself!

( 2023 Update: The above mentioned afternoon tea is no longer available but this one is similar.)

Is the Afternoon Tea pricey? Yes. But I think it is absolutely worth it to experience one of the world’s most luxurious hotels with unmatched views of Dubai. Personally, this was my favorite thing that I did in Dubai.

Want to do more? There are a variety of other options available which allow you to experience the Burj al Arab. These include spending the day at their pool ( 2023 update: no longer available), having dinner at their stunning aquarium restaurant ( 2023 update: I no longer see this available but you can still have dinner at the Burj Al Arab ), or enjoying sunset drinks at the SkyView Bar ( 2023 update: not currently offered). You can also do a 90 minute tour inside the Burj al Arab .

Visiting the Burj al Arab The World's Most Luxurious Hotel

Is the Burj al Arab Worth It?

I am never going to be able to afford to stay at the Burj al Arab in Dubai. But I am so glad that I actually got to visit that place, that I actually got to see that lobby and take those pictures and experience the hotel that I’ve dreamed of visiting for so long.

And as a full-time blogger who has lately been feeling more of the pitfalls  than the joys, being able to achieve a decade-long goal was the ultimate redeeming experience.

If it’s your dream to visit Burj al Arab and you aren’t secretly married to a Saudi prince or Russian czarina, afternoon tea is your best bet. It’s not a budget activity but every moment of it was absolute delicious pleasure.

Considering the food that you get, the views, and the Burj al Arab experience, I consider it much better value than afternoon tea at the fanciest hotels in London, for example.

Does that make it worth it to you? Then absolutely go and indulge yourself at this fabulous hotel.

Essential Information

The Burj al Arab is a private resort, and it’s closed to non-guests. However, you can visit if you have a dining reservation at one of the restaurants. Afternoon tea is the cheapest way to visit the Burj al Arab.

Sky Tea is the only one served in the SkyView Lounge. Keep in mind that alcohol is not served during Ramadan.

Where to Stay in Dubai

The Burj al Arab is undoubtedly the best place to stay in Dubai – a girl can only dream ! But unfortunately, this is out of budget for many travelers.

If you’re looking for a luxurious place to stay, I highly recommend the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates . The hotel is exquisite! The Kempinski takes luxury to the next level with its stylish furnishings and tastefully decorated rooms. Location-wise, it doesn’t get any better than this.

If you’re looking for a mid-range place to stay, Rove Downtown offers a luxurious stay at an affordable price. The rooms have a simplistic design with large windows offering gorgeous views of the city. There’s also an outdoor pool which is the perfect place to relax after a long day out.

If you’re looking for a budget place to stay in Dubai, I recommend Backpacker Dubai . This hostel is ideally located near all the top attractions and the rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable. You’re guaranteed to meet other tourists here and it’s a great option for solo travelers.

Visiting Burj al Arab in the UAE - Adventurous Kate

Burj Al Arab - The 7-Star Hotel In Dubai

One of the most incredible structures on Earth, the Burj Al Arab, was built in the shape of an Arabian dhow, or yacht's sail.

The planners wanted a monolithic structure, but neither did they want to cast a shadow over downtown Dubai, so they built it 919 feet (280 meters) out to sea.

The entrance hall is lined with rare Statutario marble (the same kind used by Michelangelo in his sculptures). In total, precious marble covers 24,000 square meters in the hotel.

But you can't have marble without gold, so 19,267 square feet (1,790 square meters) of 24-carat gold leaf was also used to embellish the interior.

7-star hotel in Dubai

Burj Al Arab, at the time of its inauguration in 1999, was an incredible achievement raising the bar for hotels all around the world.

The designers didn't try to squeeze in as many rooms as possible in the 1,053 feet (321 meters) tall tower.

Instead, only 202 suites are spread over 28 double-story floors, with the smallest occupying 1,820 square feet (169 square meters) of meticulously designed and decorated space.

The hotel is officially rated Five-Star Deluxe. So, where does this seven-star come from?

According to the hotel management, they have never used the term in advertising nor encouraged people to use it.

However, during the hotel's opening, a British journalist was so impressed by what he saw that he thought the only way to emphasize the difference was by crediting Burj Al Arab an additional two stars.

Burj Al Arab exterior

According to a Jumeirah Group (the owners of Burj Al Arab) official, they cannot do anything against people referring to the hotel as seven stars.

And why would they? It was one of the most effective marketing strategies ever to happen in the hospitality industry, putting Burj Al Arab on the map.

Uncover the story of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab

Dubai’s inimitable landmark and the world’s most luxurious all-suite hotel

Translated into English, the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab  literally means ‘the tower of Arabs’, adding a protective elegance to the building’s stance as it soars out of the turquoise shore, keeping a proud watch over Dubai’s dazzling cityscape. Any resident can wax lyrical about the inexplicably fond feelings the building’s sail-like silhouette invokes, illuminated at night-time by twinkling lights and projections. During its launch, one journalist was famously so overwhelmed by the hotel that they felt it must be rated seven stars out of the maximum five-star rating. Photos simply don’t do its ultramodern grandeur and intricacy justice, so we’ve curated countless stories for you to enjoy below to explain the painstaking work and dedication that have led the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab to become such an awe-inspiring experience.

The hotel’s dedicated teams go above and beyond guest expectations, no matter how small or big the request may be, including Michelin-starred chefs and mixologists to expert florists and private butlers. The butlers are responsible for offering the most memorable experiences for guests, whilst the Guest Relations team look after the finer day to day details.

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab’s ‘Marhaba Welcome’ is the epitome of Arabian hospitality. Upon arrival, guests are offered rose water, refreshing cold towels, dates and authentic Arabic coffee. The hotel has its own camel named Musafir, which means traveller in Arabic, who offers guests the chance to enjoy a symbolic walk around the grounds of the iconic building. To explore the city and its attractions, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab offers its own fleet of Rolls-Royces, available for guests’ transfers to and from Dubai International Airport or around the emirate, as well as a fleet of BMWs.

A haven of fine dining

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab has become a symbol of culinary excellence in Dubai. Choose from a wealth of restaurants, from leisurely lunch at The Terrace, a beachfront experience at Sal , stylish cocktails with staggering views at Gilt  or ascend to 27th floor at six meters per second to enjoy a fusion of French and Italian fine dining at Al Muntaha  overlooking the Arabian Gulf. Sky View also offers spectacular views of the seascape, while Al Iwan ’s regal dining hall on the first floor serves up traditional Arabian dishes. Bab Al Yam  provides Mediterranean cuisines with Middle Eastern accents with floor-to-ceiling views of the Arabian Gulf, while Sahn Eddar  offers a decadent afternoon tea experience as well as an expertly crafted international menu. Thanks to our new Inside Burj Al Arab experience, you can discover the hidden world of Jumeirah Burj Al Arab and embark on a guided tour of one of the world's most renowned structures.

I didn't think the $1 billion hotel considered 'the most luxurious in the world' could possibly live up to the hype. I was very wrong.

  • One of the most decorated luxury hotels in the world, the Burj Al Arab in Dubai , was recently named the "best hotel in the world" by the Ultratravel Awards. The Burj has frequently been called "the world's first seven-star hotel" and "the most luxurious hotel in the world" by travel writers and critics.
  • I recently stayed at the hotel on a trip to Dubai to see if the Burj Al Arab could possibly live up to the hype.
  • Adorned with more gold and marble than any reasonable person would choose, the Burj Al Arab impresses through the sheer force of its vision of luxury.
  • A guest's every whim is attended to, the architecture and design astounds with color, patterns, and vertigo, and extravagances like caviar and truffles find their way into numerous dishes at the hotel's restaurants. It's like living in the dream world of an Emirati royal or President Donald Trump.

The Burj's vision of luxury starts with its location. The hotel was built on a tiny man-made island a few hundred meters off the Dubai coastline. That means any would-be visitors must enter via guard-monitored bridge.

Most people arrive via complimentary chauffeured Rolls-Royce pick up. Your other option is to arrive in a private helicopter — to a private helipad, of course.

Compared to the rest of the Burj, the lobby is nothing to write home about, with low ceilings and a pared-back design. But that's by design. The lobby is mostly used to corral tourists coming to marvel at the structure, not guests.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

Guests are whisked to a side room far from the clamor to be greeted by an attendant with a "Marhaba Welcome" or rose water, cold towels, dates, and Arabic coffee. The attendant takes your passport to check your booking and then brings you directly to your room.

I was a bit early for check-in so the Burj staff offered to set me up with some snacks in the atrium upstairs. I passed by one of the Burj's three aquariums on the way up.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

A "cascade waterfall" lies between the lobby and the upper atrium. The fountain uses fiber optic lights, water, and mist to create a choreographed effect of water jumping down the stone steps.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The over-the-top grandeur of the Burj hit me as I entered the atrium. It's not just the gold, though there's plenty of that, but the deep color of the saffron and ultramarine tiles and the ornate furniture.

The Burj has nine restaurants dotted throughout the property. Because my room wasn't ready, an attendant set me up at Sahn Eddar, a coffee and tea lounge.

They brought over a juice that tasted like straight puréed mango, olives, and a selection of spiced nuts fragrant with cinnamon and nutmeg.

The centerpiece of the atrium is a circular fountain with a geometric structure that appears to mimic Islamic tile art. It periodically shoots water 130 feet into the air.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The atrium is, according to the Burj, the tallest in the world at 590 feet. The kaleidoscopic colors produce a trippy effect.

What struck me as I walked through the hotel is how detailed every part of the hotel is. Each room feels like its own art piece. That's a tribute to interior designer Khuan Chew, who used a color palette and design touches that harken to the Arabian Peninsula's history.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

At midday, the hotel is far from calm. The Burj is a big tourist attraction for Dubai and the only way to see it is with a reservation for afternoon tea at one of the restaurants. That means tour buses roll in with groups getting tea and a tour. I'd complain more, but if it wasn't for my job, I'd be in the same boat.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

Step away from the atrium and the commotion disappears. If you're wondering, yes: Those elevator doors are covered in 24-karat gold. Nearly 20,000 square feet of gold leaf was used to adorn the hotel's interiors.

I headed upstairs to my room. The Burj may be 56 stories tall, but each floor is a double-story, meaning that every room in the hotel is a duplex suite.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

Every floor has a team of personal butlers (I'm not kidding) who are there waiting to attend to your every desire. Whoever is on duty will stand up as you approach and greet you by name. If you need anything — a dinner reservation, an Earl Grey tea brewed at 9 p.m. sharp, or, say, a bubble bath — they'll take care of it with gusto.

When it's time to check in, your butler will go through the paperwork at the personal office in your suite and then show you around the room.

The tour takes quite a while There are remotes for everything, from the blinds to the television to the climate control to the lights. And lots of places to recline ... because what else do you do in a $1,500-a-night suite?

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

There is, of course, an extensive and expensive mini-bar. But there's plenty of sparkling and mineral water to enjoy.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

There was a selection of sliced fruits on the dining table when I arrived. The butler asked if there were any fruits missing that I would like to have sliced for later in the day. I asked for mango, but, I must confess, the mango never did appear.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

There was a tree of delightful French macarons of various flavors and a gold-leaf-covered giant chocolate "bean" filled with more chocolates. Later, in the evening of Thanksgiving day, the butler returned with a tray of Thanksgiving-themed sandwiches and mini-pies.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The bedroom is in the upstairs of the duplex. You climb a swooping marble staircase to get there. I'm still pissed that I didn't try sliding down the banister like the cool kid in every teen comedy ever.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The bedroom is so spacious I couldn't get it all in one photo. The bed is a DUX mattress, which can cost up to $15,000. The bedding is made of Eiderdown feathers harvested from the abandoned nests mother Eider ducks use to keep their eggs warm. There's a pillow "menu" of nearly a dozen pillows of varying degrees of material, thickness, and firmness.

The bedroom has its own sitting room with plush furniture that looks much too nice to actually sit on.

The television was rather small for the room. But the sea view, which every room has thanks to the hotel's unique triangular design, is all the entertainment I needed.

The bathroom is fit for a sheikh. There's a rain shower with four additional shower-heads, his-and-hers sinks, and a Jacuzzi bathtub. The butler informed me he could draw a bubble bath in later in the evening, if I so desired.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The bathroom — and I'll remind you, this is the entry-level suite — comes with a set of full-size his-and-hers Hermès toiletries, including cologne and perfume. You best believe I took the bar of Hermès body soap and stuck it in my suitcase. All my clothes now smell like Hermès.

After thoroughly exploring the room, it was time to check out the rest of the hotel. One does not just stay at the "most luxurious hotel in the world." One runs around like he or she is a child in an amusement park and every hotel amenity is a ride.

The first stop on my whirlwind tour of the Burj was The Terrace, a new 108,000 square-foot leisure facility built by ADMARES, a Finnish company that specializes in floating construction. It was added to the hotel in 2016.

The terrace also features a lounge called Shisha and Scape, a restaurant featuring California-inspired cuisine. I stopped in at Scape for a late lunch to figure out what exactly "Californian cuisine" is.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

To start, I tried a cocktail called "The Living Legend (120 AED or $32), featuring Ron Zacapa rum, Woodford Reserve bourbon, pineapple, lime orgeat, hazelnut syrup, and bitters. I should've guessed from the ingredient list, but this cocktail had a confusing, sickly sweet flavor. The pineapple dominated the flavor palette with the whiskey providing a smoky aftertaste. I set it aside after a few sips.

At the waiter's suggestion — he said it was Scape's specialty — I ordered the vitello tonnato (93 AED, or $25), a classic dish of Piedmont, Italy. It features cold, sliced veal dressed with a mayo flavored with tuna and chopped bits of beetroot. It is a marriage of strong and sometimes strange flavors that somehow work together, the sour of the beetroot cutting through the richness of the veal and the mayo.

The seafood salad (175 AED, or $48) is likely what restaurateurs mean when they talk about Californian cuisine: light, fresh, with a focus on the ingredients. This featured chilled pieces of king crab, octopuses, prawns, avocado, and corn, in a yuzu dressing.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The waiter told me that Scape's chef, Edgar Obed Bedolla Villegas, is Mexican and that the Angus beef tampiqueña (255 AED or $69) is a dish close to his heart. Bedolla Villegas' tampiqueña is not traditional, eschewing the enchiladas, cheese, and beans that usually surround the tender strip of beef in favor of a delicate arrangement of fried onions and a chimichurri heavy on spicy peppers. The fries are cut into thick blocks and reminded me most of Peruvian yucca fries.

After lunch, I decided to lay on a luxury sun bed like a beached whale. The Terrace has a "beach" area, which is like an adult-sized sandbox on the edge of an infinity pool.

The infinity pool looks directly out onto the Arabian Gulf, which makes it the perfect spot for sunset Instagram photos. There's a hot tub embedded in the infinity pool.

Around sunset, every person I passed by was trying to get a nice photo or selfie of the skyline. Yours truly, included.

After a few hours lounging by the pool, it was time for dinner. The way to the restaurant brought me to this side lobby. I'm not kidding when I say that every room was like a finely crafted piece of jewelry. The turquoise-and-gold elevator looked like an Hermès enameled bangle.

For dinner, I had a reservation at the Burj's flagship restaurant, Al Mahara. If it wasn't clear from the giant gold seashell that serves as the host stand, Al Mahara is all about seafood.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

Like everything else in the Burj, the Al Mahara wine racks do, in fact, glitter with gold. It's in spots like this where my brain is caught between "Can only gold be a design aesthetic?" and "Ooh, sparkly wall!"

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

But Al Mahara, like the Burj, does nothing halfway. Witness this golden seashell entrance hallway to the dining room. There are a few places I've been to in my life that seem ripped from a Bond villain's lair. This is one of them.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The dining room of Al Mahara wraps around a floor-to-ceiling 260,000-gallon aquarium filled with fish (not the ones you'll be eating). The staff have taken to naming the fish, like a goofy-looking Napoleon fish known as George.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

After the cocktail debacle at Scape, I was determined to keep it simple. I ordered a Manhattan — my usual drink of choice — but asked them to make it with the Japanese whisky Nikka From The Barrel. It was precisely made — equal parts bitter and sweet, with the peppery, smoky, of-the-sea flavor I associate with Nikka.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

Before I even had the chance to order, the water brought over an amuse-bouche —that's a small, complimentary hors d'œuvre — of butternut squash soup. The mellow soup was brought alive by smoked pumpkin seeds and slivers of briny codfish.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

The kitchen at Al Mahara was taken over by British Michelin-starred chef Nathan Outlaw in 2016, who is known for a "pared-down approach" to local, sustainable seafood. It was quite a change of pace from the original menu, according to The Telegraph's Lara Brunt, which tended towards complex French food. But we're still in the Burj, so you don't get regular butter with your bread — you get smoked salmon butter.

While Brunt described Outlaw's "pared-down" approach as intact at Al Mahara, the dishes I encountered, while delicious, were often as over-the-top as a golden elevator. For example, the crispy oysters (260 AED, or $70) were not only deep-fried, but then surrounded with a creamy oyster and cucumber sauce and topped with ... caviar.

The lobster cocktail (295 AED or $80) was packed with fresh, tender lobster meat brushed with an herby crème fraîche sauce and accompanied by a few leaves of Baby Gem lettuce that were topped with ... black truffle. Dishes like that seem designed underscore (as if you forgot) that you are eating in "the most luxurious hotel in the world."

The main courses find the pared-back footing. The salt-baked whole sea bass (980 AED, or $266) is both simple and theatrical, arriving encased in salt and filleted table-side. The fish is as fresh and tender as you'd expect from a dish the price of a smartphone.

The star of the meal wasn't even one of the dishes, but the sauce that came on the side. The vividly orange Porthilly Crab sauce, a classic concoction used at all of Outlaw's restaurants, tastes like a buttery seafood bisque. If it wasn't for the confines of social niceties, I would have poured the sauce in a cup and drunk it like a milkshake.

After a meal like that, I was in need of a long walk. I stopped by the atrium, where a string trio was performing string renditions of songs from the 1980s, like the Joe Cocker/Jennifer Warnes duet "Up Where We Belong."

My final stop of the night was to the 27th floor of the hotel for the Burj's lounge, called — you guessed it — Gold On 27. I have to commend the waiter who greeted me by name when I entered the bar despite my lack of reservation. When I asked him by what magic he knew who I was, he said he tries to memorize the name and face of every hotel guest each night. He confessed later that he doesn't always get it right.

With atmospheric jazz playing and a view overlooking the Dubai skyline, Gold On 27 is a snazzy place. The cocktail menu is pages long and includes inventive recipes with local, unusual ingredients. I ordered The Scent of The Souk (115 AED or $31), a fruity, smoky gin drink that featured dried apricots and figs and arrived at the table with a lamp flowing with oudh oil, a fragrant wood used as a perfume in the Middle East.

Of course, I had the butler draw a bubble bath before I went to sleep. As we millennials say, YOLO. Note the rose petals. When I came back from dinner, the entire suite was covered with them. Good thing I'm not allergic!

I woke up early the next morning determined to check out the last few rides (err ... amenities) in the hotel before the clock struck noon and my carriage turned back into a pumpkin.

I headed down to the 18th floor to check out the Talise Gym and Spa. There's a separate gym, spa, and pool for men and women. The space was a quiet as it looks. You could hear a whisper from the other end of the hallway.

The entrance to the men's section looks like this. There are a few couches to lounge on before getting a massage in one of the 16 treatment rooms, working out in the gym, or going for a swim.

Nothing like starting the morning with a glass of watermelon and blueberry-infused water.

The gym looked like a gym. The spa area, however, was wonderful. There was a hammam steam room, a sauna, and an icy cold plunge. I spent more time in here than I did working out.

The sauna looks out to the Arabian Gulf, the Palm Jumeirah (the world's largest man-made island), and the Dubai skyline. Not bad for a schvitz.

My favorite room in the entire hotel had to be the infinity pool in the spa. The multi-colored mosaic columns were made even more beautiful by the morning sunlight pouring in. I suppose this is what $1 billion buys you.

There is an open-seating area next to the pool that mimics the style of the columns. If I had more time, it would have been nice to spend the day there.

My last stop was the open parlor outside the spa. There didn't seem to be any purpose to the space other than being another beautiful place to admire the surroundings. It was similarly bathed in natural light.

It also had a great view of the hotel's triangular interior. Look up and you see the rainbow colors merging into triangles of blue. Look down and you see the United Arab Emirates flag unfurled down to the atrium 36 stories below.

The final touch of my stay was a private breakfast. While the Burj's restaurants do offer breakfast, the butler told me that most people opt for breakfast in their suite. Of course they do.

The in-suite breakfast was Eggs Benedict and smoked salmon topped with caviar (duh), as well as a selection of pastries, yogurt, toast, fruit, and coffee. I suppose this is what the Sheikh's life looks like every day.

Before I left, I had to get one last look at the Burj's scalloped interior and the gentle cascade of vibrant greens and blues. So, does the Burj live up to the hype? Absolutely.

hotel that looks like a sailboat in dubai

I've stayed at many five-star hotels at this point. The Burj is undoubtedly a class above them all.

The staff members seem to take the hotel's reputation as "the most luxurious hotel in the world" very seriously and pride themselves on answering your every whim before it even comes into your mind.

The interior, for all its extravagances, is truly a sight to behold. I may not want all-gold-everything in my house, but for a night at a hotel built around excessive luxury, it makes sense.

Is the Burj worth the $1,500 a night it costs for a room? Honestly, I was surprised the price wasn't higher, considering you get a room the size of a large apartment and a set of Hermès toiletries.

The question of whether it's "worth it," depends on your budget. If you're super rich, the price likely seems like nothing, anyway.

But if your income level, like mine, falls into middle class, there's a lot more worthwhile things you could spend $1,500 on.

In my normal life, I'd be far more likely to book afternoon tea at one of the restaurants just to see the architecture.

The Burj Al Arab is considered one of the most luxurious hotels in the world: here are nine facts about it:

Welcome back on the interior design magazine FillYourHomeWithLove !

We often speak about wonderful places, emblems of good taste and the most refined design.

The hotels we present you are not only beautiful, but also landmarks in the world of luxury.

What we bring to your attention is always linked with innovation and celebration of high-end design, elegance and originality.

Today we are going to look at a very extraordinary place through nine facts. It is a dream place, from many points of view.

Known as the Sail hotel of Dubai , the Burj Al Arab is a real icon of architecture and project design.

The Burj Al Arab is part of the Jumeirah group , a luxury brand operating throughout the world.

Jumeirah is the name of the wonderful sandy beach surrounding the Burj Al Arab.

To get to the hotel you need to leave the beach and “dive” into the Persian Gulf, in order to reach the artificial island on which this architectural masterpiece is standing.

The island is linked to the mainland by a 280 meters long gangway.

This hotel was opened in 1999 and not only is the most photographed in the world, but it’s also the most expensive.

We put together nine facts about it that you probably didn’t know, and maybe you will find amusing.

Sail Hotel in Dubai: the mind behind the Burj Al Arab is architect Tom Wright

28 floors, 202 rooms, 8 restaurants, 321 meters high. Here are some numbers that convey the magnificence of this building.

Tom Wright , the architect who designed the sail hotel, is from the famous Atkins studio of London.

He was given a very important task: the hotel had to become the symbol of the Arab Emirates.

It had to represent the country. Wright took inspiration from the sail of the typical Arab boat, called “abra”.

Also the name of the hotel is symbolic: Burj Al Arab means “The Arabs’ Tower”.

The beach is never under the hotel’s shadow

The architect put the hotel 280 meters far from the Jumeirah beach, and doing so, the great mass of the “sail” never project its shadow on the shore, at any time of the day.

Dubai’s sail hotel has five pools and a Spa

A huge spa on two floors, overlooking the ocean awaits you at the Burj Al Arab.

Burj Al Arab pool

Five pools are scattered throughout the hotel, from the ground floor to the top floor solarium.

Burj Al Arab room price ranges between €1000 and €9000 per night

A simple double room is 170 square meters, the presidential suite is 768!

For the latter, €9000 are not enough for a night during low season.

Care and attentions for guests is total.

It starts with the welcome cocktail, then a special service for clothes arranging in the closets, 200 international newspapers and more than 130 tv channels in all languages.

Every suite has its own butler

On the Burj Al Arab website you can have a look at the many suites.

Among these, the family suite, with its 335 square meters, has two double bedrooms, of course overlooking the ocean.

There is also a huge bathroom and a living room with every comfort.

Little known fact, you can choose between nine different kinds of pillows, ranging from the Egyptian cotton to every type of ergonomic preference.

For security and privacy reasons, the access to the gangway connecting the hotel to the mainland is supervised by security guards.

The access is allowed only under the booking of a stay or a restaurant reservation.

One of the restaurants is built within an aquarium!

One of the eight restaurants is called Al Mahara, is located on the ground floor and it’s completely submerged in an aquarium.

There is no classificazione for the Sail Hotel: it’s a 7 stars hotel

The Burj Al Arab claims to be the most luxurious hotel in the world. Five stars are not enough to classify it.

But what really makes it so unique and special as to receive the title of 7-star hotel ? Join us as we delve into the history and grandeur of this Dubai landmark and discover what makes it one of the most sought after destinations in the world.

What makes Burj Al Arab a 7-star hotel?

The Burj Al Arab , the iconic 7-star hotel located in Dubai , is one of the most famous landmarks of the city and an icon of the luxury, opulence and splendor of the UAE! Known for its luxurious amenities and stunning architecture, it is considered one of the most exclusive and sumptuous hotels in the world. The hotel, which stands at a towering height of 321 meters (1050 ft), is designed to resemble the sail of a ship, making it a true architectural marvel. The hotel’s unique design, coupled with its prime location on a man-made island , offers guests unparalleled views of the Arabian Gulf .

Its unmistakable shape attracts visitors from all over the globe who admire it from the nearby coast of Jumeirah Beach or from the square in front of the entrance gate, while its rooms and its interiors are reserved for only a few lucky people.

The high level of service, the luxury and prestige of its rooms, the fine materials of its fittings and its excellent restaurants have earned the Burj Al Arab the title of “7-Star Hotel” that has made it famous in the world. But there is much more to it than opulence and glitz. Indeed, the Burj Al Arab has a fascinating history , which makes it a real milestone in the development and growth of Dubai as a modern metropolis and global icon of luxury, as well as of the entire UAE. Let’s find out more!

Burj Al Arab was the first symbol of Dubai’s modern development

The Burj Al Arab is not just a hotel, the Burj Al Arab is an icon. And its history is closely linked to the history of the United Arab Emirates.

In the early 90s the Emirates were in the midst of their economic development and slowly became a paradise for wealthy people from Europe and Asia. But they were very far from today’s reality.

In fact, the UAE were practically unknown to most at the time, nothing more than a small nation on the maps of the Middle East.

Burj Al Arab in Dubai and a Girl on the beach in front of the 7 star hotel Burj Al Arab in Dubai

Dubai in the early 90s was far from being the global capital of today. Tourism was practically absent and the economy was heavily driven by the oil business. Until the late 90s, the tallest building in the Emirates remained the World Trade Center with its 149 meters high, just 38 floors.

The government’s desire was to differentiate the economy, attract tourists, and turn Dubai into a destination for wealthy and powerful people.

In 1993 the British architecture firm Atkins was approached by the Government of Dubai to design a building that would “create an identifiable link for people around the world with the UAE” . In other words: find a way to make the Emirates known to the world.

This is how Burj Al Arab becomes reality, designed by British architect Tom Wright .

The works ended in 1999 , the year in which Burj Al Arab opened its doors to its prestigious customers. The project of the iconic building, which in the wishes of the ruler should “to provide the UAE with the powerful visual symbol of the same significance Sydney’s Opera House is to Australia or Paris’ Tour Eiffel is to France” was carried out with great confidentiality.

Burj Al Arab has a unique location along the wonderful Jumeirah Beach

Burj Al Arab stands on a man-made island at 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah Beach and is connected to the mainland by a private bridge. The whole complex offers exceptional privacy: only guests and those who have a reservation for one of its restaurants can approach the island. The entrance avenue is separated from the city by a gate with a checkpoint controlled by private guards.

The area around Burj Al Arab is an Arab-style neighborhood occupied by luxury homes and prestigious villas and nearby there is one of the most beautiful beaches in Dubai, Jumeirah Beach .

The shape of the Burj Al Arab resemble the sail of a ship. At the top there is a private heliport, at a height of 210 m (689 ft) above ground (where Roger Federer and Andre Agassi once enjoyed a round of tennis).

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Beach

Inside, guests are greeted with a grand lobby that features a towering atrium and a central fountain. The hotel offers 202 luxurious suites , each with its own private reception area and a panoramic view of the Gulf. The suites are designed with a blend of Arabian and modern styles, featuring marble floors, gold leaf accents, and plush furnishings. Guests can choose from a variety of room options, including sumptuous suites spanning two floors and featuring its own private cinema, private bar and private whirlpool in the room.

The hotel offers a wide range of amenities, including exceptional dining options , a private beach , an award-winning spa , and a fitness center. The hotel’s Talise Spa offers an extensive menu of treatments, including traditional Arabian hammam experiences, as well as a sauna, steam room, and indoor pool. Guests can also enjoy a range of water sports and beach activities , such as jet skiing, parasailing, and free entry to a huge water park for family fun.

But it’s not just the hotel’s amenities that make it a must-see destination. The Burj Al Arab is also home to a variety of unique and exciting experiences, such as high teas and aperitifs at its famous Skyview Bar , offering guests the chance to enjoy a full English tea, a drink or a light meal while taking in the breathtaking views from the floor-to-ceiling windows of the bar, located on the top floor of the Burj Al Arab.

At Burj Al Arab guests arrive by helicopter or Rolls Royce and there are 8 staff members for each guest

Guests can arrive at the hotel with a private helicopter or are picked up at the airport by a butler and accompanied to the hotel with a luxurious Rolls Royce. Burj Al Arab owns one of the largest Rolls Royce fleets in the world.

Burj Al Arab guests can choose one of the luxurious suites worthy of hosting a royal family: up to 780 sqm , double Jacuzzi, personal lift, personal office in the room, private bar, private cinema in the room.

Those with simpler needs can choose one of the most affordable suites: starting from a minimum of 170 sqm with all the comforts, possibility to choose the fabric of the blankets and sheets and the type of pillow (among 9 different types), private office in the room, jacuzzi and bathroom set by Hermès.

Burj Al Arab Dubai

Each suite occupies two floors connected internally by a royal staircase or a private elevator. The beds and furnishings are of the best quality: the mattresses cost around $ 15,000 each.

An interesting fact about the service is that the guest/staff ratio is 1:8. The guests of the most prestigious suites have an entire staff of butlers at their disposal.

Each floor has a team of butlers ready to take care of your every wish. When you approach your room, the butlers stand up and greet you by name.

In Burj Al Arab there are 10 prestigious restaurants and bars that also serve golden cocktails

Burj Al Arab offers its guests two magnificent pools overlooking the ocean, a selection of 10 restaurants and bars serving dishes made by award-winning chefs , unlimited access to the Wild Wadi Waterpark , an extraordinary water park located near Burj Al Arab.

Its bars serve the best cocktails in Dubai and here you can also find a cocktail that has pure 24 carat gold among its ingredients , its name is Element 79 , like the atomic number of gold.

Starting from the famous Al Mahara restaurant, renowned for its seafood specialties, its intimate atmosphere, the wonderful aquarium and the setting that will make you seem to dine in a restaurant in a city lost in the depths of the ocean, a kind of contemporary Atlantis, the gastronomic offer of the Burj Al Arab has much more!

Located on the 27th floor, the restaurant boasts breathtaking views of the Arabian Gulf and the city skyline. The menu features a mix of European and Middle Eastern cuisine, with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. For a more casual dining experience, there’s the Junsui , a high-end Asian buffet. The decor is inspired by the Far East, with traditional lanterns, bamboo, and water features creating a serene ambiance. The menu features a variety of Asian dishes, including sushi, dim sum, and Thai curries.

Al Iwan is Burj Al Arab’s traditional cuisine restaurant , where diners can indulge in traditional Middle Eastern dishes. The restaurant features elegant decor, with plush seating and intricate mosaics, creating a luxurious and authentic atmosphere. Bab Al Yam , the international buffet at Burj Al Arab offers a wide variety of international cuisines with an emphasis on seafood. The restaurant features a modern and elegant decor, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering spectacular views of the Arabian Gulf.

But these are just some of the Burj Al Arab’s restaurants, alongside which stand some of the best bars in town , which also serve light meals, afternoon tea and excellent and luxurious aperitifs . Among these, the most famous is the Skyview Bar , located on the 27th floor of the hotel. The bar offers panoramic views of the city and the sea , making it the perfect spot for a sunset cocktail or a nightcap. The bar serves a variety of drinks, including classic cocktails, champagne, and a selection of fine wines.

This Luxurious Dubai Hotel Suite is Worth its $21,000 Nightly Price Tag

Burj Al Arab hotel

Standing on its own man-made island and designed to look like a larger-than-life sailboat, the exclusive Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai is an experience reserved for those who can afford the ultra-lavish and can cost more than $21,000 a night.

The Royal Suite of this towering hotel (the fifth tallest in the world) only includes two bedrooms, sleeps four total guests, and runs a lofty $21,797 per night. An extreme opposite from stark, minimalist hotels like these Scandinavian retreats, the Royal Suite isn’t exaggerating its name — this hotel room is made for a king. The Dubai palace is extravagantly decorated with a leopard-print grand staircase, ornate gold banister, chandeliers, a giant marble tub, and designer furniture. The absolutely wild and rich color scheme of bold golds, reds, pinks, purples, and, yes, more cheetah print is only the beginning of this luxury stay. Just call on the on-site butler to tell you more.

Warning: If you’re prone to sensory overload, this is not the stay for you. However, it would arguably be the most grandiose stay of your life.

Burj Al Arab hotel royal suite 1

Floor-to-ceiling windows in almost every room of the suite open up to endless views of both downtown Dubai and the Arabian Gulf. The kitchen is fully equipped (we’ve fallen in love with the espresso machine) and a formal dining area seats 12. Since only four guests are allowed to stay, the expansive nature of the Royal Suite was made for “important meetings and social gatherings of the highest formality.” So … next year’s fantasy football draft?

If at any point during your stay you feel overwhelmed by how luxurious the stay is, scoot down to the private beachfront available only to hotel guests for a moment of chill. There’s also an exclusive hotel pool that is begging to be Instagrammed .

Thinking of pocketing the shampoos before you leave? Well, they’re full-size Hermes amenities. If you don’t steal them, we will. Already dripping with excess, the suite also includes professional wardrobe packing and unpacking, as well as access to a waterpark.

Guests wanting to check out incognito can jump on a helicopter from the helipad near the roof. Returning home, you might find yourself wearing cheetah print robes, buying Egyptian linens off Amazon, and demanding Americanos upon waking.

While it may not have seemed like a juggernaut when it first premiered, Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent has turned into one of the streamer's biggest hits of the year. Apple has announced that the series is their most-watched drama of all time, which may explain why a second season is already in the works.

The series is adapted from a novel of the same name by Scott Turow which was first turned into a movie, and tells the story of a prosecutor who finds himself accused of murder, and has to work to keep his life and family together in light of the allegations. Now that the first season has wrapped up its run, many want to know what season 2 will hold and when it might premiere. Here's what we know: What is the release date for Presumed Innocent season 2? Presumed Innocent Limited Series Trailer | Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, David E. Kelley

Thanks to the streaming era, the best shows on HBO and even the best movies on HBO are readily available on Max. But those aren't the only originals that Home Box Office has released over the last four decades. HBO is also the producer of numerous award-winning documentaries, and that legacy continues to this day.

There are HBO documentaries on a wide variety of topics from true crime to modern scandals. About the only things that HBO documentaries don't cover are nature specials. But with so many to choose from, it can be difficult to find something great to watch. That's why we're giving you a helping hand with our guide to the best HBO documentaries of all time.

Michael Keaton famously reprised his role as Batman in 2023 film The Flash, but that wasn't supposed to be the only time he put the cowl back on. He was also supposed to reprise the character in Batgirl, a film that was ultimately shelved by Warner Bros. Discovery, even though it had already been shot.

In a new interview with GQ, Keaton said that he wasn't too upset the film got shelved, but said that he felt bad for directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi. "I like those boys. They're nice guys. I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me? I'm good.”

Can You Visit the Burj Al Arab? Inside Dubai’s Most Exclusive Hotel

It is one of the most exquisite and beautiful buildings in Dubai, but what do you actually know about the Burj Al Arab?

Insider tips on how to get into Dubai’s most exclusive address

The stunning sail silhouette is symbolic of one of the world’s most luxurious and exclusive hotels – complete with its own helipad no less.  It is also renowned for being hopelessly difficult to get into for a sneaky peek!

You must be a guest of the hotel, but there are plenty of ways you can do this without actually staying the night – though be warned it certainly won’t be the cheapest thing you do in Dubai, whatever way you play it! (But we’ll share with you below one option under $30 USD!)

Burj al Arab – a Seven-Star hotel?

OK, we should all know by now there’s no such thing as a seven-star hotel, but where did the catchphrase come from?  It was actually first expressed by a journalist when reviewing the newly opened Burj Al Arab in 1999 but clearly left a lasting impression.

Whilst classifications in Dubai – regulated by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing – only give the hotel a 5-star rating, even the Jumeirah group who run the hotel still refer to their “7-star service” in their marketing; so you decide!

(Want to read more on the 7-star debate – if it doesn’t exist it looks like you ask someone to create it! )

So can you get inside the Burj al Arab?

The million-dollar question! The hotel is NOT open to walk-in visits from non-paying guests – and don’t even attempt it; you will be stopped by security well before you are near the building.

However, you need not stay the night in any of the Burj al Arab suites (they are too posh for hotel rooms). Instead, you could try booking in at one of the restaurants or bars for an indulgent treat or entering on a recreation day pass. We will look at each in turn:

  • Afternoon Tea at Burj Al Arab

Lunch and Dinner at Burj Al Arab

Enjoy sundowner drinks from the burj al arab, guided tour of burj al arab, pool day passes for burj al arab, other ways to see the burj al arab from outside..

Note 1 USD = 3.67 AED | 100 AED is approximately $28 USD

The easiest way into Burj al Arab is to book an afternoon tea

The restaurants themselves in the Burj al Arab, as you can imagine, are masterpieces before you even get to the food.

The Muntaha Restaurant and Skyview Bar and Restaurant are located on the 27th floor. 200m high they both reward visitors with amazing panoramic views of Dubai’s beaches, the Dubai Marina, the Palm Jumeirah , and in the distance the skyline of Downtown Dubai.

There are two afternoon tea restaurants with several variations available at Burj al Arab:

Sky Tea is served in the Skyview lounge

Perched on the 27th floor of this iconic building, this is one of the most elaborate Afternoon Tea experiences in Dubai .  Try date juice and exotic savouries before moving on to a delectable selection of sweets. There are options for a 5-course menu, or why not go all out and treat yourself to the 7-course option with champagne and caviar?

There are two seatings daily, the first is at 1:00 pm and another at 4:00 pm. The afternoon tea costs from 500 AED for adults and 315 AED for children (aged 8+).

Be warned if this is on your agenda it can sometimes book out weeks in advance, especially if you are eyeing up popular celebration dates. You pay an additional fee of 100 AED per person to be seated beside a window.

Afternoon Tea at Sahn Eddar

There is a second luxurious 7-course afternoon tea held on the 1st floor at the Sahn Eddar restaurant. The beautiful mosaics, marble floor, fountains and torches create an alluringly beautiful Middle Eastern atmosphere in the magnificent hotel lobby.  Enjoy pastries, cakes and the finest teas and coffees you can imagine.

The afternoon tea is served from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and starts from 550 AED.

A 3-course High Tea is then held at Sahn Eddar, commencing at 7:00 pm.

Throughout the day there is also the option of their “Sweet Indulgences” packages offering a seasonal cake with mocktail or signature gold cappuccino for 280 AED per person.

Dress Code for High Tea or Afternoon Tea at Burj Al Arab

As you can imagine for such an opulent hotel there is a strict dress code in keeping with luxury and Muslim standards. You really need to dress for the occasion when you attend a Burj al Arab dining experience.

This means strictly no torn jeans, shirts without sleeves, translucent clothing, or gym gear. Gentleman are requested to wear a collared shirt, full-length trousers, and closed shoes.

As always for women in Dubai, respect the rules of no excessive cleavage, covered shoulders, no short skirts.  Women are requested to wear a suit or dress, long skirt or dressy slacks and top. UAE National Dress is welcome.

You can see our complete guide on how you should dress in Dubai here.

There are several other dining options at Burj al Arab to look out for at both lunch and dinner time across the Burj Al Arab’s diverse range of restaurants.

Specialising in French cuisine, Al Muntaha offers a weekend Brunch experience with the international buffet “ Le Grand Petit Dejeuner “ , described as ” an innovative interpretation of seasonal cuisine, artistically combining the finest of ingredients from around the globe into stylish masterpieces”. Situated on the 27th floor, this is one of Dubai’s best dining experiences with a view.

There is an early bird (10:00 am to 12:00 pm) seating and the full brunch which runs 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (one of the only hotels in Dubai we know where Brunch actually starts in the morning! ). Priced at 695 AED, which in 5-star Dubai brunch terms isn’t actually too bad!

They are also open for lunch and dinner throughout the week. For a greater sample of what’s on offer, you can enjoy a 4-course contemporary French lunch, or a luxury 5 or 7-course offering starting from 550 AED per person.

Dinner in the stunning aquarium restaurant

Al Mahara Aquarium Restaurant is an exquisite and unmissable touch if you are looking for the ultimate wow factor. Enjoy a 4, 5 or 7-course menu on the ground floor of Burj Al Arab. You will feel like you are dining under the sea in this exquisite one-of-a-kind restaurant, with naturally the best seafood menu you could imagine. It’s mocktails only though starting from 550 AED.

Al Iwan Restaurant

If you are looking for a traditional Arabic feed to pair perfectly with your extravagant Middle Eastern experience, look no further than Al Iwan Restaurant. Situated with views of the incredible hotel atrium, enjoy a selection of hot and cold Arabic mezze over lunch from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

The family-friendly dining option at the hotel – as casual as it gets is Bab al Yam. One of the only restaurants to let under 8’s in for the dinner time sitting.

A final dining option is Junsui, the hotels Far East Asian cuisine offering. As far as we are aware there are no special packages, just a delectable a la carte menu and setting to enjoy.

A little bit of everything? The Culinary Flight

Enjoy the culinary flight which will see you enjoying starters at Al Muntaha, followed by a main course at Al Mahara and mouth-watering mixology and dessert at Gold on 27. The package lasts from 7:00 pm to midnight for a princely sum of 1500 AED per person – a superb special occasion idea to wow your loved one.

If you don’t fancy shelling out for a meal, there are a couple of drink package options that will see you past security and into the Burj Al Arab – one which might even work on a budget!

Skyview Bar Beverage Package

Once afternoon tea is done and dusted, there are half-hourly slots to book yourself a spot at the Skyview bar and enjoy the views at sunset while sipping on a mocktail and a cocktail prepared by one of their resident mixologists. It still doesn’t come cheap, however, from 330 AED per person.

Now, this is the one we’ve been dying to share with you. Arguably the cheapest way to enjoy “7-star service” and still enjoy the ambience and experience of being inside the Burj Al Arab. NB since COVID temporarily closed.

All you need to do is head to the Gold on 27 website and select your number of guests and prefered time slot. This will get you your reservation confirmation. The Sundown on 27 menu which includes two drinks and one appetizer is 250 AED per person BUT you only need to make a minimum spend of 200 AED. Appetizers are priced at around 60 to 100 AED and cocktails around 100 AED to 140 AED.

Due to Gold on 27’s position in the hotel, yes you’re on the 27th floor, but you won’t get much of a view outside. You do get to travel through the exquisite hotel lobby to arrive at the bar and stake your claim to fame you have BEEN to the Burj al Arab!

This is the cheapest way we know to get into the Burj al Arab! (But let us know in the comments below if you think there’s a trick we’re missing!)

New in 2021, Jumeirah Group have launched a 90-minute butler-guided tour of the Burj Al Arab.

There will be morning, day, sunset and evening tour options. These can be taken in conjunction with other bookings at the hotel restaurants, or just take the tour on its own for an exclusive inside look at one of Dubai’s most luxurious and extravagant buildings.

As well as dining experiences, another way to enjoy the Burj al Arab is to consider a day pass to use the exquisite pool and recreation facilities.

The Burj Al Arab Terrace is famously one of the most beautiful in the world. A triangular deck that juts out from the base of the Burj al Arab, there are two infinity pools, designed to make it look as though you are floating above the Arabian Gulf waters.

The Terrace prices for non-guests of the hotel don’t come cheap, however. Prices start at 2000 AED to rent a cabana for one day, with prices as much as 7000 AED.

The cabanas are as luxurious as you might expect though from a “7-star” resort. They come decked out with your own coffee machine, mini-bar, dining and spa menus, sound system, television, air-conditioning and sunbeds.

Another moderately cheaper option is “A Day at the Terrace”, pool access accompanied with a 3-course lunch at Scape, the Mediterranean poolside restaurant.

Without a reservation, you simply won’t be allowed close to the hotel, even just to snap off a few shots for Instagram (despite what some reputable travel sites may have told you). It’s a big fat no, no matter how charming you think you are!

If you are like most of us mere mortals though and budget will not stretch to even a drink at the Burj Al Arab, your best bet is to head along to Umm Suqeim (Also known as Sunset Beach, or the Burj Beach) and here you can have some fun taking you snaps with the Burj from afar.

The Burj al Arab from sunset beach

We also love the view from Souk Madinat Jumeirah. The beautiful canals make the perfect setting for viewing arguably the most stunning and luxurious hotel in the world.

View of Burj Al Arab from Souk Madinat

The most exciting way to see the Burj Al Arab from outside though is to take a tour on the water! Adrenaline lovers will want to check out jet ski options or go for a luxury yacht tour to see how the other half live.

Ranking The Highest-Grossing Justin Timberlake Movies

How marvel built a billion-dollar empire: from iron man to avengers: endgame and beyond, alec baldwin movies ranked by box office performance., quick links, the icon of dubai, burj al arab has broken a number of records, what it really looks like on the inside, what a vacation at the legendary hotel looks like, the only hotel in the world to gain 7-stars.

When it comes to luxury hotels, the variety can range from super posh and fancy to taking glamping to a whole different level. The Burj Al Arab takes a rather unique approach as being the only 7- star hotel in the world. At a staggering $24,000 a night , we will take a glimpse into what the Burj Al Arab is really like.

What sets the Burj Al Arab apart from other luxury hotels is that it's not just the only 7-star hotel in the world, but it's set on its very own private man-made island. From the outside, the hotel is anything but ordinary with its striking ship-sail design; placed on the stunning Arabian Gulf, the Burj Al Arab offers up picturesque views from all 202 of its rooms. While the exterior of this 7-star luxury hotel is nothing to bat an eye at, neither is the interior

In 1993, architect Tom Wright of WS Atkins began to construct the Burj Al Arab and it opened in 1999, as reported by iDesignWiki . With the hotel being bigger than the Eiffel Tower and equipped with its very own helipad, it's not a wonder why the Burj Al Arab is considered to be the icon of Dubai.

What sets the Burj Al Arab apart from many other luxury hotels is that it's set upon its very own manmade island. The island itself took two years to create and is a marvel to gaze at. Any visitor fortunate enough to stay at Burj Al Arab is rewarded with the spectacular views of the crystal blue ocean and sandy beaches. For beachgoers who enjoy the feel of sand between their toes, can experience the gorgeous Umm Suqeim Beach (Sunset Beach).

Of course, being such an outrageously luxurious hotel comes with breaking a few records. It has been reported to being the tallest all-suite hotel in the world. The hotel also serves the most expensive cocktail in the world when it broke the Guinness World Record; the cocktail is valued at a staggering 27,321 AED.

In 2016, the hotel created the world's largest tin can of caviar. It contained 17kg of Empress caviar, which is the world’s only fully-certified organic caviar from native-raised sturgeon, as reported Jumeriah.

You may be wondering what exactly does a $24,000 a night hotel look like on the inside-- and yes, it definitely lives up to any expectation you may have had. Just walk into the lobby and you will be blown away by the 24-gold carat embellishments you see all around. The interior is equipped with statuary marble, the same marble that Michaelangelo used to create the Statue of David

If that isn't enough to take your breath away, there is a spectacular ceiling adorned with 21,000 crystals in the Japanese restaurant. The hotel's atrium boasts to be the largest in the world at 600 feet high. The only rooms available are suites, and there are 220 of them.

When guests arrive in Dubai , they are given the luxury option to be picked up from the airport in a Rolls Royce Phantom. Or for a price tag of over $1,000, guests can choose to arrive in their very own private helicopter to the hotel's own helipad. After you check in to the hotel, it's time to have fun. A complimentary drink will be given to you after you are guided to your luxury room.

For $1,000 a night you can stay in a one-bedroom suite which features luxury views, king-size beds, and a jacuzzi. Or perhaps you may want to opt for a family suite at $5,000 a night which can accommodate up to six guests. If you desire more luxury, it only goes up from there. The Presidential Suite is the most popular choice at a whopping $15,000 a night; equipped with 2-bedrooms, a gigantic library, a bar, jacuzzi, private lounge, and a spectacular view.

However, the most spectacular luxury room at the Burj Al Arab is the pricey Royal Suite. At a staggering $24,000 a night this is one of the most expensive hotel rooms in the entire world; boasting 8,395 square feet of luxurious space on the 24th floor and features its own private elevator. This room features 2 full-size bedrooms and bathrooms, a walk-in closet, a lounge, a library, and a private cinema, according to YouTube.

How the Burj Al Arab gained its 7-star fandom came in a rather unexpected way. In 1999, a British journalist wrote an article about the hotel declaring that "he had to give the luxury hotel 7-stars." It didn't take long for the hotel's guests to feel the same way and soon enough was attracting celebrities from all over the world. The likes of Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, and Selena Gomez have been spotted staying at the swanky 7-star hotel.

So if you have the opportunity to go all-out in Dubai, consider splurging at the luxurious Burj Al Arab. It certainly will not disappoint!

Inside the Hotel: Burj Al Arab sailboat hotel in Dubai, it looks like a boat sailing the ocean

Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubail is the ONLY existing 7-star luxury hotel in the entire world. The interior of the Burj is covered with 86,114 feet of 22-carat gold leaf. The outside of Burj Al Arab Sailboat Hotel is just as stunning as the inside.

Of course, you can't talk about Burj Al Arab Hotel without mentioning Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods played golf on top of Burj Al Arab hotel , and that's where the famous images of him hitting golf balls into the ocean from the helicopter pad came from. He was playing on the sailboat hotel helipad, practicing for a golf tournament.

Burj Al Arab Hotel also hosted Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, who practiced tennis on the helipad of the hotel before the Dubai Duty Free $1 Million Men’s Open in February, 2005.

The Sailboat of Dubai – Burj Al Arab

The Sailboat of Dubai, most notably known as the hotel Burj Al Arab in Dubai, is a marvel of creativity in design and engineering. It is the 3rd tallest hotel in the world, though over a 1/3 of it’s height is not occupiable space and has been described as “the world’s only seven-Star hotel”, a term that began by a British Journalist who visited the hotel on a pre-opening press trip.

Burj Al Arab is built in the shape of a sail, and as you can see from the various images, often looks like a large, majestic sailing vessel afloat on a mesmerizing azure sea. In a city full of exceptionally opulent, albeit, highly competitive skyscrapers and overtly expensive buildings, the Burj Al Arab truly stands out as an icon of the United Arab Emirates landscape.

The design, by architect  Tom Wright of WKK Architects , is indelibly impressive as is the fact that the hotel is built on reclaimed land , designed and engineered to be seated on its own island, 920 feet from Jumeirah Beach.  It’s accessed by a curving bridge connected to the mainland.
