The Sunseeker 100 Yacht is set to usher in what the British yard calls a “new era” in flybridge design. We jumped on board during its Cannes 2022 debut...

Aggressively styled, with an unbroken window line that seems to separate the superstructure from the hull, the new 100 Yacht’s potent three-dimensional aesthetic generates huge visual impact.

But what really sets the new Sunseeker 100 Yacht apart is not so much its style as its thought-provoking reinterpretation of the tri-deck layout.

By creating a full-beam walkaround upper level with easy fore-and-aft access to the foredeck lounge, the new Sunseeker’s flybridge is able to encompass almost the entire boat’s length.

It runs, obstruction-free, all the way from the main deck transom steps to the owner’s forward terrace, providing complete walkaround access from bow to stern.

It looks well equipped in terms of entertaining options too. In addition to the flybridge ’s central dinette, there’s plenty of space for an optional helm station, free-standing loungers, wet bar and Jacuzzi.

And the foredeck itself also offers two separate seating arrangements, as well as the option of a laser projector and a 140-inch cinema screen for lazy evenings at anchor. Back down on the main deck, the forward owner’s suite leverages the full scale of the yacht’s beam.

In addition to floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides, it also includes a sliding glass door that leads out onto the owner’s private foredeck terrace. And for everyone else, the lower deck provides lavish ensuite accommodation for up to eight guests.

The crew have their own space in the bow with separate access to the galley and three small ensuite cabins.

Other key features include a raised pilothouse with a glass aft bulkhead that allows guests an uninterrupted view forward from the flybridge, and a ‘penthouse style’ saloon with floor to ceiling windows formal dining for eight, an impressive aft lounging area to port, plus an optional sliding door to starboard.

And when you step out into the big aft cockpit, the recreational flexibility is equally well considered. While the floodable tender garage is large enough for a Williams 460 Sportjet, plus jetski and Seabobs, it can also be converted into a decadent Beach Club with built-in barbecue, rain shower and sunlougers, similar to the recently-launched Sunseeker 90 Ocean .

Available either with MTU 12V 2000 M96X engines or MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls, the Sunseeker 100 Yacht has an estimated top speed of around 29 knots.

The 100 Yacht will sneak in just below the 24m waterline length, ensuring it is classed as an RCD Category A leisure vessel rather than having to meet the more onerous regulations for a superyacht .

Sunseeker 100 Yacht Reviewed

I have always loved navigating after dark. As a youngster, I did it often during offshore racing, yacht deliveries and big summer cruises. I love to see the lights on the water—all the lighthouses, buoys, ships and other boats—and the twinkling distractions ashore. Alas, most of what I do afloat these days is compressed into the hours of daylight, which is why a recent trip aboard a Sunseeker 100 Yacht proved a rare treat.

This particular Sunseeker 100 Yacht had spent the previous 10 days at the Southampton International Boat Show. I went along for the ride to the Sunseeker yard, where the boat would be cleaned and prepped for its owners. This would be a four-hour passage starting around 5 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon. When our lines slipped, it was just shy of high water, which meant we would increasingly get tide help for much of the 60 nautical miles or so that lay ahead.

Our course down Southampton Water was broadly 135 degrees, which we held for around 10 nautical miles before easing around to Calshot Spit. Once into the Solent, we headed west on a ground track of approximately 250 degrees for 20 nautical miles before edging up to 285 degrees for the 23-nautical-mile Poole Bay crossing.

Once across, we headed northwest through the harbor heads and up the narrow 10-knot channel that weaves from the Poole Bar buoy to Sunseeker’s West Quay Road yard. This is where all of the builder’s biggest models are fitted out and commissioned. The latter half of the voyage was in darkness and increasingly wind-over-tide choppy, with a southwesterly whisking up a 4- to 6-foot swell.

The biggest diesels available for this model are twin 2,640 mhp MTU 16V 2000 M96Ls, which should mean a top speed of at least 30 knots. However, our boat had the standard twin MTU 1,920 hp 12V 2000 M96Ls, which delivered close to 25 knots through the water and nearer to 26.5 knots over the ground. At a fast cruise of around 17 knots, with the diesels spinning about 2,000 rpm, the range would be around 415 nautical miles. Slow down to 10 knots and the yacht could run as far as 1,500 nm on full tanks.

Turns are pretty prompt, given the vessel’s half-load bulk of around 220,000 pounds. We kept the CMC Stabilis Electra fins and the Intruder trim system active, and they kept the bow up between 3 to 4 degrees, with roll and pitch nicely in check. Overall, the ride was remarkably comfortable and surprisingly quiet. At full chat, I recorded just 62 decibels at the lower helm with the doors shut, and 57 decibels at a fast cruise. (Normal conversation level is 65 decibels.)

The view from the mostly glazed, raised pilothouse is surprisingly good, especially given the aggressive styling in the windshield’s rake. Instrumentation was on three Simrad touchscreen displays. An L-shaped bench sofa/pilot berth could turn the pilothouse into quite a snug hub on passage.

Sunseeker also offers an upper helm position, and wing or stern stations. With or without that second helm, the upper deck’s layout is asymmetrical. In a first for the yacht builder, the upper deck connects via sloping side decks to the forward terrace’s booth seating and sun pads; farther forward, a foredeck tucks deep into the bow. The foredeck is accessed via a short set of steps to port, while a companionway connects aft from the terrace to the portside deck. The after end of the flybridge is open to a degree of owner interpretation. This Sunseeker 100 had the optional hot tub with flanking sun pads, an oval dining table amidships, and a three-stool wet bar abaft the raised pilothouse steps.

Down in the cockpit area, the transom conceals Sunseeker’s X-Tend sun bed, which opens up as a swim-platform lounger or can lift up to extend the usable space (with balustrades). All of this amounts to a beach-club experience, yet leaves room for a garage that can accommodate a 15-foot jet tender and a PWC.

For an extra bit of luxury, there’s the light, bright main salon. Full-height picture windows along both sides combine with free-standing furniture to create a contemporary, chic vibe. The lounge aft and formal dining forward are a conventional layout. Forward and to port is the galley, with a lobby and day head to starboard.

There is actually three-tier functionality in the hull and superstructure forward of the pilothouse: the foredeck terrace up top; three cabins for five crew with a crew galley; and an owners’ stateroom in between. The owners’ stateroom is accessed via the main-deck lobby to starboard, past walk-in closets and an inviting rain shower en suite. More picture windows flank a forward-facing king berth, and six steps rise to a sliding glass door that connects to the foredeck as the owners’ private retreat.

The lower deck’s layout is conventional, with four en suite staterooms for as many as 10 guests. Two staterooms amidships have king berths, while the other two are forward with berths that can be configured as twins or doubles. They can also have Pullman berths.

After such a pleasant cruise, I wished I could have spent the rest of the evening aboard or, better still, gone to sleep with the excitement of where we would take the Sunseeker 100 Yacht tomorrow.

Pushing the Envelope

It seems like only yesterday that Robert Braithwaite, who founded Sunseeker, walked me proudly through the first-ever Sunseeker to break the 100-foot barrier. It was the Manhattan 105, and the first one belonged to Eddie Jordan of Formula One fame. It was called The Snapper . Overall, 11 of the 105s were delivered between 2000 and 2006. At the time, it felt like a gigantic leap forward for Sunseeker, whose previous flagship, the Manhattan 80/84, had taken the title from the Manhattan 74.

Now, 22 years later, I was aboard the fifth 100 Yacht, with six or seven others already afloat. Since that first Manhattan 105, around 140 Sunseekers from 100 to 155 feet have been delivered.

Historic Shipyard

Sunseeker’s home is in Poole, England, a port north of a well-sheltered but mostly shallow natural harbor on the South Coast. The surrounding area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known as the “Jurassic Coast” because cliffs along its 100-mile coastline are packed with fossils dating back about 200 million years.

Sunseeker’s Top 100 Yacht

A strong statement that the British builder’s sporty DNA is still alive and kicking, the Sunseeker 100 Yacht can reach up to 30 knots, while its many attractions include walkaround access between the flybridge and foredeck, as well as a stunning owner’s suite fronted by a cosy bow terrace. The 100 Yacht at rest

Even when Sunseeker’s 100 Yacht is at rest, she looks like she’s ‘already moving’. The aggressive lines and sharp angles of this shark-like flagship of the Yacht series of larger flybridge models show the British shipyard staying true to its performance heritage while introducing a series of notable new features, many combined on a yacht of this length for the first time.

Joining the 76 Yacht, 88 Yacht and 95 Yacht, the 100 Yacht is a stylistic alternative to the likes of the beamy 90 Ocean, the first model in Sunseeker’s growing series of big-volume vessels and set to be followed by its skylounge edition, Ocean 182, and the shorter Ocean 156, both named after their volume in GT.

Powerful, lean and muscular, the 100 Yacht is even a little imposing from afar. It’s 9ft longer than the 90 Ocean and 20 tonnes heavier, yet it’s almost 1ft narrower. It’s just a different physique altogether, yet one that also has a sub-24m load line length, with her CE Category A certification easing demands on owners and crew.

And just like the 88 Yacht did when it debuted alongside the 90 Ocean and others as part of the ‘Sunseeker Famous Five’ a couple of years ago, the 100 Yacht proves that both ranges can run in parallel and achieve great success.

Sunseeker announced 15 hulls had been sold by late April, an impressive tally considering the 100 Yacht only debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival last September and that the similar-sized 30M sold 17 during its entire life span over a decade ago.

Furthermore, the recent launch of the fourth unit of the 100 Yacht revealed dramatic Midnight Grey paintwork that should gain the new model further attention this summer.

“The 100 Yacht is a fusion of our expertise in design and ultra-modern styling, and it’s a response to us listening to client feedback, asking what the market needs,” says Mark Chinery, Sunseeker’s Sales Manager. “We want to lead the market and we want a yacht that turns heads and appeals to owners.”

WALKAROUND TOP DECK

While sharing some of the styling and big-boat attributes of the 116 Yacht and tri-deck 131 Yacht, both now grouped in the builder’s Superyacht series, the 100 Yacht is more cohesive, with long bands of glazing all pointing to the knifelike bow, which cradles one of the model’s signature features – the owner’s private forepeak terrace.

However, it’s worth noting that there are other ways to reach this cosy nook other than through the master suite. After all, this is the first Sunseeker to feature full walkaround access between the aft flybridge and the foredeck.

There are at least three ways to reach the foredeck from the aft cockpit, with the flybridge providing the scenic route among the two outdoor paths. After heading up the starboard stairs to the flybridge, guests are provided with a first view of the starboard walkway, which spans much of the length of the top deck.

The stairway emerges behind a long bar that faces fixed bar stools as well as a huge, foldable dining table and lots of seating to port, all of which can be specified by the owner. The aft open area of the flybridge can feature one of three spa tubs offered by Sunseeker and integrated sunpads or space for free-standing sunbeds.

Forward are two L-shaped sofas either side of the sliding glass companionway door to the pilothouse, although an outdoor helm is an option in place of the starboard corner couch. The new hard top design has the option of a sunroof or adjustable slats and is wide enough to cover the start of both side passages to the foredeck.

The forward social areas start with a C-shaped sofa – with fridge drawers to hand – and a table across from an opposing sofa, which is integrated aft of a magnificent quadruple sunpad with electrically adjustable backrests. This area can be covered by a bimini, then when the sun goes down, it can be transformed into an open-air cinema with a laser projector and 140-inch screen.

To port are a few steps leading down to the forepeak, but as this area was designed for the owner’s use, we’ll retrace our steps to the aft cockpit and take the indoor route through the saloon.

X-TENDING SOCIAL OPTIONS

Before heading indoors, it’s worth having a closer look at the cockpit and the whole aft area. The cockpit can be arranged with free-standing or fixed furniture, with guests able to enjoy clear sea views and the beach club through the glass balustrade. In the forward port corner is an integrated wet bar with a fridge, ice maker, stainless-steel sink and storage.

Furthermore, the 100 Yacht is Sunseeker’s third model to be offered with the X-TEND™ option, following the 88 Yacht and 90 Ocean. This remarkable in-house system folds out to become a huge sunpad above the swim platform or can be raised to main-deck level, creating a forward-facing sunpad and a nicely protected social area once the balustrade doors are opened.

The X-TEND™ is also the door to the impressive tender garage, which can house a Williams SportJet 460, 3.5m three-seat jetski, diving equipment, paddleboards and other water toys, along with dedicated Seabob storage. Should a bigger tender be required, or the garage needed for other items, it’s worth noting that the bathing platform can take up to a Williams DiesetJet 565.

A hydraulic ladder passarelle allows guests to easily access the toys and make the most of their time in the water, while Sunseeker’s renowned Beach Club offering includes an oversized rain shower and large built-in barbecue.

CALM INDOORS

In contrast to the array of enticing options and attractions in the outdoor areas, the interior – designed with long-time collaborator Design Unlimited – is refreshingly calming.

It oozes a refined luxury that almost sits midway between the formal, intricate detailing seen in the 88 Yacht and the relaxed, laid-back vibe of the 90 Ocean.

The 100 Yacht benefits from floor-to-ceiling glazing, which provides magnificent views and allows for masses of natural light during the day. The standard layout for the saloon includes a large, L-shaped sofa to port and a 55-inch standing TV to starboard, where low cabinets ensure the window views take centre stage during the day.

The dining table seats 10 guests

Forward is a dining table for eight to 10 people, with Sunseeker offering the option of sliding doors on the starboard side, allowing for a cool breeze and easy access to the half-length side deck for an evening stroll or a chat overlooking the water.

A central cabinet and feature wall forward of the dining area also act as a screen for the central staircases – floating steps from port up to the wheelhouse, and the carpeted starboard stairway down to the four en-suite guest cabins.

VIP suite to port

The lower-deck hallway leads aft to two almost mirror VIP suites, each with an inward-facing double bed, bedside tables and an 11ft-long bathroom aft. Forward are two guest cabins, both with aft-facing single beds that can be slid together to form a double, while each room can also be fitted with a Pullman berth to expand the overnight capacity to 12 guests.

OWNER’S HAVEN

Back up on the main deck, the starboard hallway leads to the day head before the entrance to the master suite, which is arguably the crowning glory of the interior design.

The long lobby is flanked to port by cupboards and drawers then a magnificent walk-in wardrobe with full-length mirror and feature shelving, while to starboard is an elegant countertop and long drawers next to a longer vanity desk and drawers following the same design.

Entering the main bedroom provides the view that puts a smile on your face, with beautifully designed, curved cabinets framing a feature stairway up to a sliding glass companionway door that provides direct access to the forepeak.

It’s a stunning sight and one the owners can wake up to every day from their bed. However, it’s still not quite as nice as the almost 360-degree vistas from the bow terrace, where the teak decking – free of any hardware – can cosily fit two chairs and a table, ideal for coffee or a quiet place to read.

“Overall, the most innovative parts of the 100 Yacht have had a great response and the owner’s suite with the walkthrough to the forepeak has gone down really, really well,” says designer Ewen Foster, Sunseeker’s Chief Technical Officer, who has worked with the shipyard since 1985.

“The bow terrace is still a practical area for the anchoring side of things, but once you’re at anchor, it can be set up for the owners.”

The bedroom also has a pop-up TV port of the stairs, while the bathroom is aft of the bed on port side and features twin sinks and mirrors, a rain shower and an enclosed toilet with sink.

As well as guest flow, crew flow was also essential in early design and development. Sunseeker is quick to emphasise that the bow terrace works as well as it does for the owners because service to the foredeck can be quick, with easy access from the galley via stairs from the port side deck.

“We’ve worked hard with our team and with clients and crew to make sure the circulation around the yacht works internally and externally,” Chinery says.

Situated forward of the dining room to port, the galley starts with two full-height fridge-freezers and a sink, countertop and storage below the window, while inboard is a spacious three-sided working area with masses of storage.

Beside the side deck door, a forward staircase leads down to an impressive crew quarters featuring an L-shaped dinette, corner galley, laundry facilities, a captain’s cabin with en-suite to port, and two en-suite bunk-bed cabins forward.

The pilothouse

The pilothouse, linked by separate stairways to the galley entrance and the flybridge, has a single captain’s chair facing a console topped by three Simrad screens, with an oversized chart table to port and L-shaped companion seating in the aft starboard corner. Wing stations are fitted as standard, while an outdoor helm on the flybridge is optional.

Chinery, for one, has been impressed with the performance of the 100 Yacht along with the comfort, both in terms of vibrations and volume. “It’s a very quiet, smooth ride. I was astounded at how peaceful it was.”

Sunseeker offers owners plenty of choice in terms of décor, furniture and fixtures, but the 100 Yacht is already a popular proposition due to its thoughtful layout and many highlights, be it the large tender and toy storage, beach club attractions including the X-TEND™, the walkaround top deck with numerous different social areas, or the master suite with the private terrace.

£500k price drop on 30m Sunseeker 100 Yacht Majic

A £500,000 price drop has been announced on the 29.8-metre Sunseeker motor yacht Majic, listed for sale with Christopher Head at Sunseeker Brokerage. Designed in-house, the yacht was delivered by Sunseeker in 2023 and is the first 100 Yacht to be finished in custom stealth grey. 

There is accommodation for a party of up to ten guests, including a light-filled forward master suite, two doubles and two twins. The full-beam master suite benefits from a large lobby entrance, a walk-in wardrobe with feature shelving, an office and en suite. The owner can also enjoy the privacy the bow terrace affords, fitted with a fully glazed sliding door forward.

The interiors of the open-plan main deck evoke a penthouse feel with a layering of textural elements and floor-to-ceiling glazing which floods the salon with natural daylight, complemented by sliding doors to starboard.

The feature wall forward of the dining room incorporates a floating staircase leading to the wheelhouse. The large, fully equipped galley forward is concealed behind a feature bulkhead and offers plentiful space and direct side deck access for crew.

Key to the yacht's design, the raised pilot house incorporates a glazed sliding door aft, allowing uninterrupted views forward from the flybridge. The vast flybridge has two separate seating arrangements and an oversized sunpad, and the space flows seamlessly into the foredeck with uninterrupted walk-around access on both sides.

Guests can make the most of these sunbathing hideaways, including the single-level exterior deck from flybridge to foredeck and the water-level beach club. The award-winning X-TEND system offers several seating arrangements, facing aft in its lowered position or forward at the flick of a switch at cockpit level.

The tender garage can accommodate a Williams 460 Sportjet and GTX255 jet ski, with plentiful stowage for SeaBobs, diving equipment and paddleboards.

Powered by twin MTU engines, the yacht for sale reaches top speeds of 30 knots. At 10 knots 2,800 nautical miles can be achieved, on one engine.

The 100 Yacht will revolutionise the Sunseeker Yacht range, earmarking the start of a new era in flybridge design and functionality for the British yard. With new entertainment features at the fore, the 100 Yacht offers great versatility with a truly global appeal. The sweeping flybridge, with complete walk-around access from bow to stern, is one of the exceptional entertainment areas that defines the 100 Yacht. The vast space on the flybridge is cleverly zoned to offer seamless entertainment. The foredeck has two separate seating arrangements with cinema screen capability, while the central flybridge has L-shaped seating, a fully equipped wet bar and space aft for free-standing furniture or a spa bath.

The 22-foot beam adds significant interior volume feeling much larger than a 100-footer, matched by interior features typically found in bespoke superyachts. The full-beam master suite situated on the main deck benefits from floor to ceiling windows port and starboard as well as an exceptional glass atrium door forward, leading to an owner’s private bow terrace.

Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X or MTU 16V 2000 M96L, the 100 Yacht reaches speeds of up to 29 knots and has a range of 1,300 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots. Reflecting its enormous strength and design capability, the yacht has been awarded CE Category A/Ocean status.
