Set Up and Sail

The V11 detailing is simple but effective. In conjunction with the V11 Set Up Guide, assembly is straight forward, and vital tuning information assists you to quickly understand and master your V11's potential

Vickers RC Sailing build processes are well refined and thought out.

Our boats are light, stiff and clever,  keeping to a simple and effective philosophy around detailing

The V11 design is a hull, foils and bulb package to compliment the full range of conditions experienced in RC Sailing. The hull design has full volume forward and features the familiar chines and tumblehome of the modern IOM for reduced weight and windage, as well as good tracking characteristics. The V11 features our peaked style foredeck for efficient water shedding when buried downwind and a geometrically strong shape for the forestay and mast ram areas.

Foils are slippery and strategically positioned with the rig to balance the yacht. The V11s forgiving balance through the wind range, allows the skipper to focus on the race at hand, and not rely on micro steering to maintain a consistent VMG.

The rig sits solid on its deck stepped mast step, complimented at deck level with an encapsulating mast gate arrangement over the mast ram. The rudder tube is rigidly supported inside the moulded servo tray. 

Hull construction is from E-Glass Fibreglass Cloth and High Grade Epoxy Resin.

The foils are Carbon Fibre Layup with High Grade Epoxy Resin.

Paint system is a 2 pot Urethane and the boat is thoroughly post cured before finishing.

The V11 Features-

Hardware is Bantock including an adjustable mast ram, adjustable mainsheet post and tiller arm.

All necessary fittings attached for standing and running rigging.

The V11 comes out of our workshop in Beach Haven, Auckland New Zealand and is ready to accept rigs and electrics.

We also make sails that can be added to the order, or ordered separately.

SAILSetc has a long association with the International One Metre class supplying specially designed products since the class’s inception in 1988. From the first World Championship in 1994 SAILSetc designed boats and equipment have given outstanding performance for a large number of sailors against the toughest competition at World, European and national level.

The first SAILSetc IOM designed with the help of a VPP, IKON, justified its use on that project and every design put into production at SAILSetc since then. IKON was followed by ITALIKO, TOPIKO, PIKANTO and FRAKTAL all of which, in turn, proved to be excellent designs giving success to many sailors and top quality performance years after their launch.

SAILSetc has ceased building boats and moulding other component parts. We have developed new sources of fins and rudders which, with our ballasts and in house moulded parts, can be expected to help other designs obtain their best performance.

SAILSetc spars, fittings and sails provide an optimised and compatible range of products with which to equip any IOM, whether from SAILSetc or from another source.

This is a cutting edge International One Metre hull  and print design by top sailor Juan Egea from Spain at RC Sailing Labs. The ALIOTH design incorporates the latest cutting edge features of many top end International one meter classes including, balanced hull, hard chine, great forward buoyancy, among many other features! Juan's print design ensures that the licensed ALIOTH 3D print will be the proper width, quality, and rules compliant boat that you can enjoy for years to come! Our print is also structurally reinforced in several key areas not found in lower quality 3DP designs. DSNA uses PLA Tough Pro Filament for our prints to strive for  maximum durability and resistance to high temperatures. Our experience printing the hulls sections and sharing quality control information directly with other "Factories" and the designer, ensures a quality product for our skippers! Please keep in mind however 3D printed boats will not hold up under long periods in high heat, especially darker colors!  When not on the water make sure to store under cover, and out of the sun! Our design can accomodate several different types of servos & winches, but we recommend our ALIOTH Electronics Package Which includes our multi-voltage/ digital/ coreless, SW22 Sail Winch (w/ 40mm Drum) & DFGMD1 Micro Servo, which help reduce overall weight.  These servos are both super high torque, high quality , and battle tested for the IOM class. We also offer complete deck and internal hardware kits as an add on option. Currently, complete keel fin, rudder fin  and Ballast must be sourced separately directly from RC Sailing Labs.   Other fins and bulbs can be fitted to the boat kit with printed adapters available on request. We also have lightweight, reliable LiPo & Life Batteries, chargers available .  Rigs and sails can be sourced worldwide from many different dealers, currently DSNA does not carry these item or build boats turnkey! In an era of radio sailing when high end competeitive boats can take years to get on the water, the ALIOTH IOM is a fantastic, low cost alternative to enter the international level  of high end radio sailing!

3D Printed IOM Kit Sets

We first made the D5 Glass IOM with a 3D printed deck in October 2019 and were very encouraged by how easy it made putting the boats together. We sailed these boats hard for over one year and we had no failures with the deck or boat itself. We continue to build glass boats with this method and manage to build boats underweight that need 300 grams of corrector weights

We designed the D6 intended for 3D Printing from the start and these boats have been sailing for over a year now. We found that with out at least a 75 gram glass layer on the outside the boats were prone to cracking when they had a T bone collision with another boat so this is recommended for people building kit sets. We can also sell kit sets sections that are pre glassed

The boats assemble very quickly as all parts of the boat are printed in the seven sections. The sections have inbuilt flanges at the joins so all that has to happen is to ensure the joins have plenty of glue on them for a good bond and no leaks .

Stainless-steel nuts for chain plates, turning blocks and rudder servo holder have been pre glued in place before leaving the factory so once the sections are glued together all that has to happen is for the fittings to be screwed on.

We have now the option of winch lines threaded through PTFE tube and eyebolt so no blocks required

We pre seal the sections with epoxy inside to stop any water being absorbed into the hull.

With constant developmen t with 3D printing building techniques we will keep you updated with any changes. At present we use the Prusa I3 3D printer with PLA+ filament. We glass the sections with a 17 gram glass cloth using ADR240 west epoxy resin.

The boat does needed to be faired and painted for a good finish.

Brighton Boat Works is proud to be a US distributor for an exceptional new IOM the Kantun SMX . Designed by Multi time Champion Zvonko Jelačić of Croatia, with production machining designed and produced by Maurizio Morbidelli 's Italian Company MX Components. This boat comes from the factory complete with Hull, Deck Fin-box,Deck accessories, Carbon Fiber Foils; both rudder & Keel, Carbon fiber coated Ballast. Additional included deck accessories are a radio pot, Rudder arm, mast ram and main sheet riser, and silicone nose bumper. Just add servos and rigs (we are happy to provide those as well!!) and you are good to go racing! This Item is Special Order Please allow 8-10 weeks for delivery.

THe Katun SMX   is an MX Components realization of Zvonko Jelačić's  highly successfull Katun S . Moulds for Kantun S and Kantun SMX have been made using the same plug produced by Jelacic Sailing in Croatia.  Positions of keel, rudder and mast are the same as on original Kantun S.  Weight distribution is as far as possible similar to Kantun S. 

The Katun SMX is available as either a single color boat or a 2 Color boat(Hull and Deck). Any Color may be selected from the RAL Color Chart. That chart can be found at http://www.ralcolor.com/ . Please specify the desired color when ordering. Color is added to the boat in the mold to insure an excellent finish without the additional weight of a gell coat. This method allows for a much wider range of available colors to make your IOM investment Unique

The deck, hull, fin box and deck accessories are assembled at the factory. all openings to the hull are factory cut. Additional Accessories for this boat include:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Is the hull designed to be printed in vase mode.

Yes. Vase mode guarantees good layer adhesion and the best surface quality, and it reduces a lot the printing time.

What material do you recommend to print the Alioth files?

We recommend PLA+ or PLA.

PLA is stiff, has low shrinkage and is easy to print. The disadvantage is a low glass transition temperature.

Darker colours warp on direct sunlight as the temperature of the surface builds up fast. To avoid this, use bright clear colours.

Don’t leave printed parts in a car on hot summer days, as the temperature can easily rise above 50°C.

What sailwinch servos can I use?

Files include three different servo trays for:

• Standard size (40×20 mm) sailwinch servos, like Turnigy 6114.
• S100 sailwinch.
• RMG and ARS808 sailwinch servos.

What other parts do I need to complete my Alioth boat?

Hull fittings kit (available in our online store).

Rudder and keel (SailingLAB carbon rudder and keel are available in our online store).
