Solar catamarans harvest power from the renewable elements for a more eco-conscious and efficient cruising experience. In-house designed and manufactured by the shipyard, Sunreef Yachts’ solar panels are state-of-the-art. They can be easily mounted anywhere on the sustainable yacht’s surfaces, including the hulls and masts, maximizing solar power. The panels are fully customizable in terms of size and shape to easily adapt to any structure on board. Dismounting for maintenance and repair is effortless. Flexible and ultra-solid, they are the industry’s lightest panels. Sunreef Yachts is also the first company to integrate solar panels in the curved carbon bimini roofs of its eco yachts. The Sunreef shipyard ’s R&D department is also developing an advanced system to recover heat from the panels to heat up the eco-friendly yacht’s boiler.

Hydro Generation

Hydro generation is about creating power whilst sailing in a sustainable catamaran. Sunreef Yachts Eco yachts can be equipped with advanced electric propulsion allowing power to be generated from the propeller rotation while the yacht is navigating under sail. This energy can be used to power the propulsion battery bank as well as the electronics on board. Hydro generation is highly efficient on eco yachts as they can recover electric power from two engines. It is a reliable and endless source of power for eco-friendly yachts .

Wind Turbines

Wind turbines produce power from the wind to keep the yachts battery bank charged. They play a very important role in the energy mix of every eco yacht. They are a stable source of power throughout the day, but also at night and in cloudy weather, when the yacht cannot rely on solar power. Energy is produced not only under navigation but also while docked. Using a sustainable power source, wind generators can operate in various wind conditions, starting from very light winds to stormy weather. The turbines are usually placed atop of the eco-friendly yacht to maximize the conversion of wind power to electricity.

Sunreef shows off gorgeous 80-foot solar electric luxury yacht ahead of US debut this month

Eco-responsible shipbuilder Sunreef Yachts had given the public its first glimpse of its new 80-foot solar electric yacht before it makes it US debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida later this month. The 80 Sunreef Power Eco is a fully-electric luxury catamaran that could very well be one of the most advanced solar electric yachts built to date.

Sunreef Yachts was established in 2002 in Gdansk, Poland where its shipyard and office still operates in addition to a presence in the the UAE. A year into its existence, the company was touting the launch of the world’s first 74-foot luxury oceangoing catamaran with a flybridge and has been innovating ever since.

Today over 140 Sunreef Yachts are sailing waters across the globe, and the shipbuilders clientele includes Tennis great Rafael Nadal , plus F1 champions Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg. As the company looks to delve further into electrification, its latest vessel – the 80 Sunreef Power Eco has already garnered a German Design Award 2023.

To be clear, I'm not a boater and not fond of being on water that much. In my younger days, I did have a couple boats and was on the Mississippi quite a lot as well as a larger lake in NW IL. The thing that I recall not so fondly was the smells and fuels, putting fuel in them, the spills in the water, the nasty exhaust fumes and film in/on the water, etc. That's always bothered me and I feel that the boating industry may be one of the dirtiest as for pollution along with motorcycles. The fact that boats spend so much time baking in the sun makes them totally great for solar.

So I'm happy and grateful for the fact that boats and motorcycles seem to be moving well into the EV power and using renewable energy as well. It gives me hope for the future where people can still enjoy recreational activities while greatly reducing emissions.

In addition to the new images of 80 Sunreef Power Eco above, we’ve learned that its makers are already declaring the solar yacht “world’s most advanced electric luxury catamaran,” due in large part to is emission-free in-house technology.

The 80-foot vessel is propelled by two 360 kW motors, powered by a massive 990 kWh battery bank. Sunreef says these custom-engineered banks offer an energy density less than 5.2 kg per kWh, nearly 30% lighter than the typical systems most commonly used in the yachting world today.

What may be most impressive about this electric yacht is Sunreef’s 36 kWp composite-integrated solar panels, which have been seamless placed along the catamaran’s hulls, bimini roof, and superstructure. Sunreef describes the technology as a “solar skin” around the yacht.

The interior features 4 luxury cabins and customizable layout to comfortably sleep eight guests. unfortunately, that’s all Sunreef is sharing about the 80 Power Eco at the moment, but the public can learn more at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , taking place October 25-29. The first Sunreef 80 launched, the 7X Split, is easily spotted from afar thanks to her graphite-colored hull that is striking in appearance. She sports a spacious 4-cabin layout, including a spectacular master stateroom, occupying most of the starboard hull along with the guest cabin. With a deliberately dim color scheme, the master suite features a massive bed, a desk, a sofa, and a dressing room hidden behind a custom-designed decorative partition. The salon is tremendous, offering stunning views, incredible space rarely ever seen on a yacht of this length, and the finest contemporary decor.

Thanks to Sunreef Yachts’ proprietary solar power system, the Sunreef 80 Eco can generate up to 32kWp. Covering a total area of 164m² solar panels can be integrated with various composite structures of the yacht including the mast, boom, superstructure and hull sides. The luxury catamaran is fitted with a state of the art, ultralight battery bank (30% lighter than the average batteries used in the nautical industry) with a density of less than 6kg / kWh for increased weight-efficiency and performance.

Description.

Sunreef Yachts launched an all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco Zeahorse, a fully autonomous craft using revolutionary green tech for fuel-free cruising in total silence and luxury. Designed and built to navigate in complete harmony with the elements.

A first in the industry, this sailing catamaran ’s solar power system features ultralight composite-integrated solar panels within the hull sides, superstructure, and bimini roof. This patented-pending system was engineered and produced by the Polish shipyard to offer the best efficiency in the marine world.

While under sail, the Sunreef 80 Eco recovers energy from the passive motion of the two propellers with its advanced hydro generation system. The energy obtained is used to power both the electric propulsion and house appliances.

Below the main deck, the all-electric yacht ’s battery bank consists of custom-engineered batteries, combining light weight with outstanding efficiency. Additionally, the Sunreef 80 Eco’s air conditioning is the lightest and most efficient in the marine industry.

The Sunreef 80 Eco sailing catamaran can welcome up to twelve guests on board. Her starboard hull houses an opulent and light-filled master suite with a double bed, a pop-up TV, sofa, and vanity desk. The generous ensuite bathroom follows the contemporary style of the master stateroom. The custom layout also includes a large mid-ship cabin in the middle section of the portside hull as well as two identical guest cabins in the bow portion of each hull and the aft cabin.

The main deck saloon offers ample lounging and dining spaces with two oversized settees and a table amidship as well as a bar with a piano and pop-up TV. Towards the bow, the Sunreef 80 Eco features a fully equipped galley, that provides plenty of storage options and restaurant-quality amenities.

The catamaran’s flybridge boasts impressive lounging areas, a jacuzzi, big sun pads, and a wet bar. Inside the aft cockpit, guests enjoy a full-beam relaxation space with a large daybed, a dining table, and a swim platform.

Mäntsälä is a municipality of 21,000 people (2022) in Uusimaa . Mäntsälä is known for its mansions, and sits at the crossroads of many important highways.

Mäntsälä is located about 60 km northeast of Helsinki near the regional border of Päijänne Tavastia . The Mäntsälänjoki River flows through the church village, which joins the Mustijoki River further south, which runs all the way to the Gulf of Finland. Historically, the area has become famous for giving its name to the "Mäntsälä rebellion" ( Mäntsälän kapina in Finnish), a failed coup attempt by the far-right Lapua Movement to overthrow the Finnish government in 1932.

Mäntsälä is at an ideal location in terms of traffic, as many important highways pass through the municipality. The most important road connection is definitely Highway 4 (E75) between Helsinki and Lahti . Others main routes are western Highway 25 from Hyvinkää and eastern Highway 55 from Porvoo .

In the centre of Mäntsälä, services are located within walking distance, but to other parts of the municipality, it is generally better to move by car.
