Specifications

YAS is a converted Dutch navy ship that was originally constructed in 1977 and served in the military for 20 years.

At the time, she was named HNLMS Piet Hein and only measured 135 meters (442 ft).

She was eventually sold to the UAE military, where she served until 2006 and converted into a superyacht at ADM Shipyards.

YAS has little resemblance with a warship today, but she has kept her agility and speed. Despite her size, she can reach top speeds of 30 knots and sails comfortably at average speeds of 25 knots.

She was a beam of 14.4 meters (47.3 ft) and a draft of 4.75 meters (15.7 ft). Her total weight lies at 5,002 tons which can be attributed to her impressive steel hull.

She was recently refitted in Germany and relaunched in 2021.

YAS is an unusual yacht in many ways. Both her interior and exterior were designed by the French studio Pierrejean and she is said to have been modeled to resemble a dolphin with her immense glass superstructure.

She is a very long yacht with an aerodynamic shape that allows her to retain speed while still looking elegant and luxurious.

YAS has a helipad, spacious storage for water toys, and, of course, several pools on board for the enjoyment of the guests.

The original price for YAS is estimated to lie close to US $180 million, although she has since been refit which suggests that her current value might lie closer to US $200 million.

Motor Yacht

The 141m superyacht Swift141, christened 'Yas', was successfully launched by ADMShipyards in November 2011; entering the record books as both the largest launch of 2011 and most significant superyacht in recent history.

Yas’s distinctive narrow profile was built on the steel hull of a former Royal Dutch Navy Frigate built in 1978. Her frigate hull and lightweight composite superstructure help to enable the enormous vessel to reach impressive speeds of up to 26 knots.  Yas was styled inside and out by Pierrejean Design in Paris, with a strikingly graceful exterior of fluid curves and volumes, and a spectacular structural covering of glass.

Streamlined elegance is what characterises her overarching design. Ever inspired by the fluidity of water mixed with the natural inhabitants of the sea, every individual PierreJean yacht project indicates a unique and aesthetic reference.

She can comfortably accommodate up to 60 guests while modern diesel power and variable-pitch propellers assure a top speed of 26 knots, cruising speed of 20 knots, transoceanic range, and “green” fuel economy. In anticipation of her unusual speed for a yacht of this size, the project was first appropriately named “Swift141.”

The Port of Malaga’s megayacht marina welcomed the luxury vessel Yas on Saturday, one of the largest yachts in the world, and the biggest to sail into the new port facility since it was opened.

The Yas, as it is known today, is actually the second life of another ship. Named Swift141 during her reconstruction, the Yas is based on the hull of an old frigate; Piet Hein, a Kortenaer class frigate of the Royal Netherlands Navy. She was launched in 1978 and later sold to the United Arab Emirates Navy, where she operated under the name Al Emirat. This practice is not that rare, as a second frigate of the same class is in fact undergoing a similar conversion; the Abraham Crijnssen, renamed Abu Dhabi.

yas yacht

One of the main features of the Yas is its size. It is 141-metres-long and has a swimming pool and heliport. Its interior was created by French designers House Pierrejean Vision Design Studio.

The megayacht is capable of carrying up to 60 guests and 56 crew members. The facilities include a beauty salon and a lift. Powered by two diesel engines, she cruises comfortably at 23 knots, with a top speed of 26 knots and a range of up to 5,758 nautical miles. It is owned by Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The arrival of boats like the Yas is due to the fact that a few weeks ago the Malaga megayacht marina was opened in the old pier 1 and part of 2 area of the port, and it features a dock with a capacity for 31 berths for luxury boats, up to 180 metres in length, after an investment of about ten million euros.

The great novelty provided by the Malaga marina is the possibility of supplying electricity from land, so that ships can turn off their engines while they are moored and thus stop consuming fuel and emitting polluting gases.

Superyacht ‘Yas’ returns to the port of Spain’s Malaga

yas yacht

ONE of the largest megayachts in the world has sailed into Malaga.

Completing its third visit to the port of Malaga, the megayacht marina welcomed luxury vessel ‘Yas’ yesterday, Thursday may 11, where it currently shares the quay with the Mayan Queen IV, another large yacht which has been stationed at the marina for several weeks.

The Yas, as it is known today, is actually the second life of a naval ship. Initially built between 1977 and 1981 as a frigate which, under the name Piet Hein F-811, sailed for the Royal Netherlands Navy.

In 1998, the United Arab Emirates took over the ship and christened it Al Emirat.

Having completed its life as a military ship, in 2005 its current owner, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, took over the ship for its conversion into a large yacht, work which was carried out at the ADM shipyard in Abu Dhabi, with its interior refurbished by French designers House Pierrejean Vision Design Studio.

One of the main features of the Yas is undoubtedly its size, at 141-metres-long this craft is one of the largest yachts in the world, and the biggest to sail into the new port facility since it was opened.

The megayacht, which also boasts a swimming pool and heliport, is capable of carrying up to 60 guests and 56 crew members. The facilities include a beauty salon and a lift. Powered by two diesel engines, she cruises comfortably at 23 knots, with a top speed of 26 knots and a range of up to 5,758 nautical miles.

Now, in what is her third berth in Malaga, the superyacht Yas arrives with a planned stay of several days; which open to last minute changes could see this impressive vessel moored at dock one until Sunday May 14..

ADM Launches Yas Superyacht, the world’s 6th Largest Yacht

By Adrian Prisca

Updated on May 20, 2023

yas yacht

Previously called Swift 141, this ex-naval frigate has recently been turned into the 6th largest yacht in the world , right ahead of Crown Prince Sultan of Saudi Arabia’s Al Salamah and David Geffen’s Rising Sun. This 462.5 ft megayacht was built in Abu Dhabi, by ADM Shipyards.

It is said that the vessel was ordered by a member of the Arabic royal family. The boat, called “Yas”, is one of the most luxurious vessels today. The hull of the yacht is built in such a way that it offers great hydrodynamics and speeds, while the boat’s highest velocity is thought to be around 26 knots.

Using beautiful lineage and curves, with superb glass-covering and creating a gorgeous ambiance throughout its all length, Pierrejean Designs projected the vessel, both on the exterior and the interior. The yacht is propelled by diesel power engines, with the help of variable-pitch propellers, assuring ecological fuel-consumption, transoceanic autonomy and an average cruise speed of 20 knots.

The boat can assure accommodation for 60 guests and a 56 staff-crew throughout its stern platform, outdoor spa and pool, a garage for water-sports machines and gadgets plus a carbon-fiber bridge-like door that can be a swimming platform or a boarding bridge. The thrusters, single-stern and dual-bow, can provide dynamic positioning for its crew.

Furthermore, there is a set of amenities that are said to be the best aboard any yachts out there – an extensive audiovisual entertainment system – as ADM Shipyards declare. The list that follows this yacht, gadget-wise, is extremely impressive: long-range underwater sonar, FLIR and high-definition day cameras, Night Navigator, SatCom and ultimate-tech radars.

The boat is also the first ever built to comply with the private-vessel-standards of the latest UAE Large Yacht Code and it’s built under Classification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). This magnificent work of beauty, engineering and design is still undergoing some finishing touches, and it’s expected to be launched during 2012.

Will There Be an ‘Industry’ Season 4? Everything We Know So Far

Myha'la as Harper Stern in 'Industry' Season 3 Episode 8

Spoiler Alert

  • 7 ‘Industry’ Couples, Ranked
  • Why ‘Industry’ Season 3 Is the One to Watch

[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for  Industry Season 3.]

Industry Season 3 is proof that networks need to let shows cook. The HBO finance drama has delivered its most captivating season yet with episodes that feature bold structural swings and dastardly, shocking betrayals from the characters.

The season concludes on Sunday, September 29 at 10/9c in an episode that’s sure to shock. Thankfully, Industry has already been renewed for Season 4, so the story of this cutthroat capitalist world will continue. But will this season’s guest stars be back? And when will the series return? Here’s a breakdown of all there is to know so far about the show’s future. Spoilers for previous episodes ahead!

Is Industry renewed?

Yes, HBO renewed the drama on September 19. Nothing in the announcement said that it would be a final season, so it’s possible that the series could continue after Season 4.

According to HBO’s renewal announcement, Season 3 is pacing nearly 40 percent ahead of Industry Season 2 with an average of 1.6M viewers per episode and growing. Viewership for Industry in the five weeks before its renewal ranked among its top-five weeks ever, the network shared, adding that social conversations are 2x higher than Season 2 and growing by double-digits each week.

What happened in Industry Season 3?

Marisa Abela, Adam Levy in 'Industry' Season 3 Episode 6

Nick Strasburg / HBO

The season began with Harper ( Myha’la ) working for a new, “moral” hedge fund after she was fired from Pierpoint by Eric ( Ken Leung ) at the end of Season 2. Harper started further down the food chain than she would like at this new job, but she schemed her way into the good graces of her new job’s No. 2 in command, Sarah Goldberg ’s Petra Koenig.

Harper made quick work of starting up a new, buzzy fund with Petra, which made their paths cross with her former colleagues at Pierpoint. As her reunion with Eric in Europe revealed, getting Pierpoint to be the sales reps for her new fund was Harper’s version of revenge against her former boss.

7 'Industry' Couples, Ranked

7 'Industry' Couples, Ranked

Yasmin ( Marisa Abela ) was haunted by a fateful trip on her disgraced father Charles’ ( Adam Levy ) yacht all season. The heiress was hounded by paparazzi at every corner as the search for her missing dad continued. She was shacking up with Robert ( Harry Lawtey ) in the meantime in a house they shared with Harper, and the romantic tension between Yas and Rob continued all season.

Kit Harington ’s Henry threw a wrench into everything. His Elon Musk-inspired CEO found himself being investigated for corruption by the UK government after the IPO launch of his company, Lumi, went south. The company tried to make Rob, their Pierpoint rep, the fall guy, and he was reluctantly still connected to Henry after the dust settled. Yas and Henry got into a romantic and kinky fling as well, making Rob (and in an odd but unsurprising development, Eric) jealous.

Harper, who’s now obsessed with insider trading, became privy to some key information about Pierpoint becoming a sinking ship. The penultimate episode of the season showed Pierpoint in potential ruin, with the big wigs at the company trying every avenue to save it. Eric proved himself to be more cutthroat than Harper when he betrayed his longtime friend and colleague, Bill Adler ( Trevor White ). And the other shocking twist of the season came when a flashback revealed that Yas was involved in her father’s death (he fell overboard and she did nothing about it), and Harper helped keep the secret. The complicated friends had a big falling out that has yet to be resolved.

Rishi ( Sagar Radia ) also had a noteworthy episode focused on his gambling addiction and the havoc it wreaks on his personal and professional life.

Will Kit Harington be back in Industry Season 4?

Harry Lawtey and Kit Harington in 'Industry' Season 3

Industry has a history of not explaining why certain characters are no longer around, but select guest stars have returned, like Sarah Parish ’s Nicole Craig, who was shockingly killed off at the beginning of Season 3. Given his major role this season, it seems that Harington’s presence in Season 4 would be needed. But as of the time of publication, it has not been confirmed if the Game of Thrones star will be back.

Viewers can expect the main stars to return, as HBO has not announced otherwise.

When does Industry Season 4 come out?

There’s no premiere date set for the fourth season and it presumably has not begun filming. But there have been two-year gaps between each season, so it’s reasonable to assume that Season 4 would come out in 2026. Season 4 will presumably consist of eight episodes like the three seasons before it.

Industry is created, written, and executive produced by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay.

10 of the biggest superyacht conversions

Related articles, superyacht directory.

It's not easy to transform a vessel built for function into a thing of beauty. But, if done right, the results can be magnificent. From naval frigates to ice-breaking tugs, we take a look at the top ten largest superyacht conversions to date...

1. Yas | 141m

Yas was first delivered in 1978 as a naval frigate named HNLMS Piet Hein . After two decades of service in the Dutch Royal Navy and a decade serving the UAE military, she was released from duty and converted into a private yacht under the codename Swift 141. Jacques Pierrejean is the man behind her futuristic design which includes a giant glass dome. The entire project was carried out in Abu Dhabi and the vessel was extended by 12 metres to accommodate a new pool deck. In 2011, she was relaunched in Port Zayed in Abu Dhabi and is the 11th largest yacht in the world .

2. Maryah | 125m

The 125 metre former Russian research vessel sailed under the names Dalmorgeologiya , Fortune and Czar , before she was converted into a SOLAS-compliant superyacht by Greek shipyard Elefis in 2015. Details of her interiors have been closely guarded but are said to feature a cinema and accommodation for 54 guests across her six decks.

3. Alexander | 121.95m

Alexander first splashed in 1965 and served as a cruise liner until 1985 when, after several changes of ownership, she was converted into a superyacht by Greek shipping tycoon John Latsis. She was extensively refitted in 1985 and then again in 1998, with accommodation for up to 80 guests in 40 staterooms. Highlights include a swimming pool, hospital, gymnasium, a 27-seat cinema and a helicopter landing pad.

4. Project Y910 | 120m

Built in Poland in 1990, the 90 metre vessel served as an offshore supply ship named after the Russian writer Vladimir Chivilikhin . The ship was in service until 1998 when its owner decided to convert the vessel into a luxury per-cabin charter yacht under the project name KAY. Work on the hull began at Keppel Singmarine before the yacht made its way to Italy for outfitting at Fincantieri. The half-built project was put up for auction in November 2021. Currently lying at the Fincantieri shipyard in Trieste, she patiently awaits a new owner.

5. Turama | 116.41 m

Christened Delfin Caravelle, the 116 metre vessel was delivered as a passenger ship in 1990 by Finnish shipyard Rauma and converted into a luxury charter yacht in 2004. Little is known about the conversion of Turama .

6. Dream | 106.5m

The 106.5 metre Dream was born into the world as a humble passenger vessel before she embarked on a near decade-long conversion project to fulfil the lifelong dream of an ambitious new owner. Under the project name Poseidonos, work began in 2008 at Chalkis Shipyards in Greece with exterior design by Studio Vafiadis and an all-new interior by  Ciarmoli Queda Studio. The team's efforts were rewarded when Dream picked up a Neptune for Best Converted Yacht at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards .

7. Christina O | 99.15m

Christina O was built for the Canadian Navy as an anti-submarine frigate under the name HMCS Stormont .  After surviving in the second world war, she was purchased for scrap value by Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who then converted her into the legendary Christina O . A six-year conversion ensued and she was reborn in 1954 as an ultra-luxury private yacht that was regularly seen to host royalty and the Hollywood A-list with the likes of Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Sir Winston Churchill, Grace Kelly, John F Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor welcomed on board.

8. Voyager | 91.4m

Previously known as Danah Voyager , the conversion of this former offshore supply ship is the largest to take place on American soil. First delivered by Swiftships in 1997, the 63 metre commercial vessel arrived in Dania Cut in Florida in 2016 and emerged from the sheds three years later as a 90 metre explorer with five decks, 70 crew and a dive centre.

9. Dubawi | 90.6m

Dubawi began life in 1989 as a small passenger ship built by Cantieri Navale Ferrari before she was converted into a private yacht two decades after her launch. The project was awarded to Dubai shipyard Platinum Yachts and remains one of its biggest projects to date, second only to the 162 metre Dubai . Work included a five-metre extension, a restructuring of the top deck and an entirely new interior.

10. Lauren L | 90m

Built by Cassens-Werft in 2002, Lauren L began life as a cruise ship sailing under the name Constellation . After four years in service, she was bought by Liveas Yachts who converted her into a modern charter yacht with the capacity to carry a maximum of 40 guests.
