“It is unusual for us to build a four-decker, but we have had a few requests for such a boat from former clients, so it made sense to create one,” Heesen CEO Niels Vaessen said in a statement. “We are addressing a key market that is looking to maximize space and experience on board to share with family and friends.”

Monte-Carlo Superyacht

With such generous proportions, Monte-Carlo has vast amounts of real estate onboard. One entire deck is dedicated to the owner, creating space for a lavish primary suite, a giant en suite, and a spacious office. Other potential owners could, of course, adjust the layout to their liking.

“The potential is huge, you expand the primary suite to include a private foredeck with its own sundeck, jacuzzi, and a fold-down balcony to starboard,” designer Peder Eidsgaard explains. “From his/her office, the owner can walk straight out onto the balcony and take a seat.”

The guest accommodation sits forward on the main deck, creating that much-needed privacy between the owners and their fellow seafarers. The four large staterooms and one full-beam VIP can collectively sleep up to 10.

Geared toward entertaining, Monte-Carlo features a beach lounge on the main deck with low-slung sofas and a dining area for up to 14 guests. The yacht is also home to an observation lounge with a firepit and a sky lounge with a hidden pop-up TV.

Monte-Carlo is also outfitted for relaxation. The lower deck sports a wellness area with a gym, sauna, hammam, and massage or beauty room, while the aft deck showcases a 248-square-foot infinity pool and fold-down terraces for waterside chills.

Monte-Carlo even has some green credentials. The vessel can support a hybrid propulsion system, with space for a large battery bank. It will also be able to house methanol tanks in the future should hydrogen combustion or fuel-cell systems come into play. It has an estimated cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 16 knots.

Not a bad way to open Monaco.

project monte carlo heesen

Heesen reveals 62m full-custom steel project Monte Carlo

Dutch shipyard Heesen has pulled the wraps off a new 62-metre steel superyacht concept known as Project Monte Carlo.

Designed by Harrison Eidsgaard , the yacht is characterised by an open waterfront beach club with a 23-square-metre pool and an interesting accommodation configuration that includes an owner’s cabin on the upper deck.

Peder Eidsgaard, of Harrison Eidsgaard, said the goal was to “create a simple profile” with long lines of glass and a "signature" look on the aft.

The yacht has been born from client demands for more "holistic living" as well as a sense of privacy and an enhanced connection to the water, according to the yard.

Niels Vaessen, Heesen CEO, explained that “it is unusual for us to build a four-decker, but we have several requests for such a yacht from former clients, so it made sense to create one. We are addressing a key market of owners that are looking to maximise space and experience on board to share with family and friends."

Project Monte Carlo will be technically designed to allow for a range of alternative propulsion systems, including battery power, a methanol-ready fuel tank or a fuel cell.

“We see that our owners are increasingly interested in minimising their environmental impact,” added Peter Van Der Zanden, Heesen’s general manager for design and development. “By planning the yacht around tried-and-tested green solutions, we are helping them make good decisions that don’t add much time and cost to the build.”

Central to the yacht's design is an upper deck owner's "penthouse" with "huge potential" for a buyer looking to spend long periods at sea, according to Eidsgaard. By having each living area interconnected, an "incoming owner" could "expand the master suite to include a private foredeck with its own sundeck, Jacuzzi and a fold-down balcony to starboard. From his/her office, the owner can walk straight out onto the balcony and take a seat", said Eidsgaard.

The positioning of the owner's cabin means that the remaining guest accommodation is found on the main deck and comprises four regular cabins plus a full-beam VIP cabin which all benefit from enhanced views and less noise and vibration.

Other spaces include a "beach lounge" on the main deck, where low-profile sofas create a convivial dining area for 14. Elsewhere, there is a firepit observation lounge under the mast, an outdoor galley, and a semi-open skylounge seating area with a concealable TV for movie nights at sea. Alongside the large pool on the aft, the space is also equipped with unfolding sea terraces.

Key numbers of Project Monte Carlo include an 11.5-metre beam, gross tonnage of 1,340 and top speed of 16 knots guaranteed by fast displacement hull form that is optimised for cruising at 12 knots.

Heesen Unveils New 200 ft Superyacht Project: Monte-Carlo

The project has been designed with modern owners in mind, focusing on privacy, wellness and sustainability.

By Toby Louch

heesen yachts address

The annual Monaco Yacht Show is the main event on the calendar where the superyacht industry gathers together to reveal what they have been working on. At this year’s show – which runs September 25 – 28 – Dutch superyacht builder Heesen Yachts has revealed its latest project, aptly codenamed Monte-Carlo . Stretching over 200 ft in length, Monte-Carlo is a new steel FDHF superyacht of vast proportions.

The design of this new vessel was undertaken by British studio Harrison Eidsgaard and is comfortably one of Heesen’s most ambitious projects to date. This new yacht has been tailored to the wants and needs of a modern owner, particularly those looking to spend extended periods onboard.

Extended over four decks, this new yacht is one of the largest in Heesen’s history, with features that have been inspired by current trends in the market. “It is unusual for us to build a four-decker, but we have had a few requests for such a boat from former clients, so it made sense to create one,” said Heesen CEO, Niels Vaessen. “We are addressing a key market that are looking to maximize space and experience on board to share with family and friends.”

Heesen Project Monte-Carlo

Throughout the design process, privacy was always a significant consideration, a trend that has risen in many owners – post-pandemic – who are looking to spend longer periods on board and potentially work from their yacht. Of the four decks on Heesen’s Project Monte-Carlo, an entire deck is dedicated to the owners, featuring both a master suite and an expansive office area.

“It is a very open master suite, with the bathtub, shower and office all interconnected,” said designer, Peder Eidsgaard. “The benefit of this arrangement is that an incoming owner can easily toy with the space devoted to each area. The potential is huge, you expand the master suite to include a private foredeck with its own sundeck, jacuzzi and a fold-down balcony to starboard. From his/her office, the owner can walk straight out onto the balcony and take a seat.”

In addition to the expansive owner’s deck, guest accommodation can be found entirely on the main deck forward, and is comprised of four large staterooms and a fifth full-beam VIP stateroom.

Heesen Project Monte-Carlo

At the stern of the yacht is an impressive 247-sq-ft pool with glass sides, creating the illusion that passengers are swimming in the sea. On the main deck, there is a ‘ beach lounge ’ – a relaxed and informal dining area that can accommodate up to 14 guests – in addition to an outdoor kitchen and sky lounge seating area.

As well as privacy, new superyacht owners are also interested in wellness , with Hessen’s Project Monte-Carlo ticking that box with a dedicated center on the lower deck. Current mock-ups suggest this space will feature a large gym, sauna, hammam and massage room.

Heesen Project Monte-Carlo

As yacht builders look to make the superyacht industry more sustainable , Heesen has technically enabled Project Monte-Carlo for serial hybrid propulsion, as there is space for a large battery bank. The vessel has also been future-proofed with space for hydrogen combustion or fuel cell when it becomes readily available.

“We see that our owners are increasingly interested in minimizing their environmental impact,” said Peter van der Zanden, Heesen’s general manager for design and development. “By planning the yacht around tried-and-tested green solutions, we are helping them make good decisions that don’t add a lot of time and cost to the build.”

Shipyards - new build , interior designers , exterior designers , naval architects, www.heesenyachts.nl.

A yacht is a beautiful way to expand your horizons in luxurious comfort. But when that yacht is a Heesen, it can be so much more. Our yachts also offer outstanding performance combined with efficient fuel consumption, high-quality construction with cutting-edge technology, advanced engineering with avant-garde design. Founded by Frans Heesen in 1978 in Oss, Heesen Yachts was the first Dutch shipyard to employ aluminium for the yacht hulls. Since then we have become world leader in design, engineering and construction of high-performance motor-yachts. In 1992 we expanded our business to include the construction of traditional displacement yachts, and today we deliver superyachts within the 34-75 metres size range, and beyond. In 35 years we have delivered nearly 170 yachts. The current fleet includes aluminium, steel, displacement, semi-displacement and the new revolutionary fast displacement. Heesen is financially secure, large enough to cope with complex construction, small enough to care about each project, motivated to pioneer innovations and dedicated to continuing the tradition of Dutch quality shipbuilding.

Heesen Yachts’ Rise as a Top Superyacht Builder

  • By Kim Kavin
  • January 4, 2022

Heesen Yachts

Frans Heesen, at least at first, wasn’t in the superyacht business. He was in high-tech plastics, which, during the 1960s and ’70s, were becoming so ubiquitous that the word “plastics” became a famous quote unto itself from the Dustin Hoffman film The Graduate .

But in 1978, Heesen acquired Striker Boats, which built in aluminum. The first yacht produced under the Heesen brand, Amigo , launched a year later, along with the entrepreneurial juggernaut we know today as Heesen Yachts. Frans Heesen had no way of knowing it at the time, but at 65 feet length overall, Amigo was a fraction of the size his yard would go on to represent in the superyacht industry.

Heesen Yachts

It was in 1988 that Heesen Yachts truly became the globally known brand it is today. That’s the year the yard launched Octopussy , a 124-footer that could top 50 knots. At the time, it was the fastest luxury yacht in the world, and suddenly, the name Heesen was on everyone’s lips from St. Barts to St.-Tropez.

Since then, the builds have just kept coming, getting bigger and more interesting as the Dutch yard delivers them. Frans Heesen retired in 2012, having sold the yard a few years earlier, but Heesen Yachts continues to be known for building in aluminum and steel. (So much for that one important word being “plastics.”)

Heesen Yachts

One of the yard’s noteworthy current builds is Project Apollo, a 180-footer whose steel keel was laid in August. The yacht represents a business practice that has worked well for Heesen: starting a build on spec so that by the time an owner is found, he can make his imprint on the interior styling while still enjoying a shortened delivery schedule.

And just because yachts like Project Apollo are being built on spec doesn’t mean they’re being produced as cookie-cutter designs. Yes, this yacht is the latest in Heesen’s 55-meter Steel class, but it’s also an evolution in styling.

“As much as we love our original design with the vertical windows, we felt it was time to make an evolutionary step,” said Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, a frequent Heesen Yachts partner. “We opted for a larger expanse of floor-to-ceiling glass, without mullions, in the main salon and sky lounge. Then we took the opportunity to give a slightly more aggressive look to the profile by using continuous sheets of tinted glass. The horizontal lines stretch the optical length and balance the air draft. The result is beautiful: We retained the family look and feel but gave it an elegant touch.”

Heesen Yachts

The recently delivered Ela is another example of how the spec-start build process still allows for adding some personality to an existing design. Ela , which was known throughout its build as Project Altea, is the second hull in Heesen’s sub-500-gross-ton Nova Plus class. The owners bought the yacht just three months before the delivery date and worked with interior designer Cristiano Gatto to personalize it.

“Together with the client, we revisited all the loose furniture, inside and out, selecting new materials for all the upholstery and the key items from Paola Lenti, B&B Italia, Poltrona Frau and Promemoria,” Gatto says. “But more importantly, we designed bespoke pieces such as tables, sofas and lamps, all beautifully crafted by Italian ateliers, who delivered them in record time.”

Today, the yard is putting the finishing touches on Project Falcon, a 196-footer that splashed in July after being touted as the yard’s largest-ever steel displacement yacht. It has what the yard is calling “one of the most elaborate and sophisticated designs in the shipyard’s history,” with Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design including custom-built furniture and lighting along with rare woods and bespoke metal and glass. Exactly how that interior will look is yet to be disclosed, but Rick van de Wetering, the yard’s chief operating officer, says, “This has been an immensely complex but satisfying project, which has given rise to some very creative solutions.”

Heesen Yachts

With twin MTU diesels, Project Falcon is projected to have a top speed of 17.5 knots and a range of 4,200 nautical miles at 13 knots. Delivery is scheduled in December. On board will be a glass elevator and a touch-and-go helipad, features that couldn’t have been imagined aboard Amigo back in the late 1970s.

Just try to guess what the next half-century at Heesen Yachts might bring.

Heesen delivers brand new 55m charter yacht RELIANCE

By Anna Ingles   24 September 2023

The 55-metre Heesen motor yacht, previously known as Project Gemini and now named RELIANCE , has been successfully delivered, prior to joining the global charter fleet.

Expressing delight over the completion, Heesen stated: "We are thrilled to announce that the 55m Steel YN 19755, motor yacht RELIANCE, has been handed over to a satisfied family. The entire team at Heesen is excited to see this new yacht sailing and extend their best wishes for smooth sailing to the owners and crew."

Aerial overhead view of charter yacht RELIANCE at sea

Available for Mediterranean yacht charters in summer 2024, RELIANCE was launched from the Heesen outfitting shed at the Oss shipyard in October 2022. The luxury charter yacht' s dynamic exterior design is a creation of Omega Architects, while Luca Dini is responsible for the elegant interiors. Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, RELIANCE is part of Heesen's popular 55 Steel series which includes five delivered yachts, among them being VIDA and LAURENTIA .

Aft view of charter yacht RELIANCE, surrounded by sea

Initiating the construction of RELIANCE as a speculative venture, she was bought 15 months into its build by a client who admired the characteristic shark-grey exterior, robust lines, and predatory profile, which has been achieved via a "shark tooth" feature on the superstructure forward.

Overview of the main salon onboard charter yacht RELIANCE, lounge area facing in toward a coffee table with a dining area aft and large windows surrounding.

Although the yacht’s exterior design is the result of a well-established partnership, RELIANCE is the first Heesen crewed yacht charter to feature interiors designed by Luca Dini. The Italian designer and his team have created a sophisticated atmosphere using warm tones and a stylish theme. Boasting several custom features, including a unique layout in the owner's cabin en suite and windows in the transom door for natural light to flood the beach club, RELIANCE is already shaped up to make a splash on the charter market for both family vacations and corporate yacht charters .

Able to accommodate 12 guests in its six generously sized cabins, RELIANCE features an expansive 82-square-meter owner's cabin on the main deck forward and a VIP on the bridge deck. The remaining guest cabins, comprising two doubles and two twins, are situated on the lower deck.

RELIANCE is powered by twin MTU 8V 4000 M63 IMO-Tier III diesel engines, offering a top speed of 15.5 knots and a transatlantic range of 4,500 miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots.

5 Luxury Homes with the Swankiest Panic Rooms

  • November 5, 2020

There’s no reason to panic, but the news of raging wildfires and COVID-19’s spread is certainly enough to make you stop and think about your safety. An in-house panic room can provide comfort and security during emergencies like pandemics, and extreme weather events.

Should the worst-case scenario ever come to pass, having a safe room will allow you to wait out the chaos in relative comfort and security. Depending on the model, a panic room could protect you from tornadoes, cyclones, nuclear fallout, armed invasions, and even airborne contaminant attacks. Every family home should have one, even if it’s a simpler version purely designed to protect inhabitants from unexpected intruders and natural disasters.

According to Ruban Selvanayagam of Property Solvers UK: “these spaces are of course not only of use as as ‘panic rooms’ (which could raise alarm bells when it comes to selling the property ) but can be adopted as games, cinema, lounges and a variety of other purposes.”

It should come as no surprise that most luxury and celebrity homes are fitted with custom panic rooms for these exact reasons. They boast a range of swanky features, from viral-screening filters, and radioactivity protection, to full CCTV set-ups, gyms, and cinemas that all create the ideal luxury lifestyle . Naturally, they might be pricey to install, but those who own luxury homes already have the resources to buy the safe rooms of their apocalypse-centric dreams.

Here are 5 luxury homes with the swankiest panic rooms you’ll ever lay eyes on!

L.M. Pagano’s Topanga Home – California

The $4.5 million home features an infinity-edge swimming pool, a glass pool house, a fireplace, an outdoor shower, and a bonus structure that can serve as a yoga, art, or recording studio. It also houses an off-the-grid, solar powered safe room complete with a water purification system and a backup generator in case the electric grid fails.

The safe room is fully apocalypse-proof, and its location is only known by its owners. You may recognize the safe room as the setting for Bruce Willis’ 2005 film, Hostage . Rest easy that you would be far more secure here than the film’s hostages were…

The Strand Home – California

As well as being totally off-grid, the 4 bed, 5 bath home boasts a secret panic room that serves as a walk-in safe too. It’s bulletproof, powered completely by green energy, and decked out with custom cabinets and filtered ventilation to protect against airborne contaminants. Inhabitants can use emergency phones, radios, and extensive security camera feeds to stay in touch with the outside world, should danger ever rear its ugly head.

The Star Wars House – Los Angeles

The $26.5 million home’s safe room is connected to the grid, but can sustain itself using solar panels and a back-up generator during emergencies. Plus, if you do ever get locked down here, it’s unlikely that you’ll be bored with so many iconic movie props to investigate during your free time. There’s also a large outdoor pool, a grotto slash spa, a loggia, tennis court, fully equipped gym, and a 750-gallon aquarium on the property for residents’ entertainment pleasure.

854 Fifth Ave Townhouse – Manhattan

The home’s safe room is fitted with a Faraday cage to repel electromagnetic fields, along with a host of other high-tech protective equipment that would survive an apocalyptic event. The safe room was built to house Josip Broz Tito, the president of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, after he survived an assassination attempt.

The panic room kept Tito safe from harm for years, and will certainly do the same for future residents.

610 Los Trancos Road – California

Aside from its pristine safe room, residents can take advantage of a personal climbing wall, indoor private cinema room, basketball court, golf course, and hockey rink to help them pass the time. There’s also a sprawling basement, hobby room, library, media theater, recreation room, and a cellar filled with bottles of excellent vintage white and red wine to indulge in .

The mansion’s hidden safe room is fully equipped to withstand home intrusions, pandemics, nuclear explosions, and even war-related events. It doesn’t get much more luxurious than this, especially when you’re in hiding during times of emergency!

This service was introduced to ensure that Heesen’s Dutch quality standards can be maintained throughout the lifecycle of a yacht. Owners sometimes have to fall back on local shipyards and subcontractors when maintenance and repair-work is required. This is why Heesen provides managerial assistance on necessary refit, repair and renewal work, either from a distance or on location. A flying squad of technicians is ready to travel at a moment’s notice to any location in the world.
