The Best Yacht Charters You Can Book Around the World
Whether you’re looking for seven decks of entertainment, a family-friendly trip, or a diving-focused Caribbean voyage, you’ll find it here.
There are few experiences as luxurious and awe-inspiring as a yacht charter . You can explore the world at your leisure, spend quality time with friends and family in an intimate setting, and the service is second to none. We've rounded up the most exceptional new yacht charters to book around the world. They're sure to inspire your next voyage, whether you want to relax along the Amalfi Coast or explore remote corners of the globe.
In the yachting world, Loon is known for an exceptional array of water toys — perhaps the best in her class. There's a FunAir inflatable slide that goes from the third deck straight into the ocean, an in-water pool, and a luxurious 43-foot Everglades tender. You can hop on paddleboards, sea kayaks, Waverunners, or a Seabob to explore nearby islands and coves.
The adventurous can try kite surfing or Lift e-Foil surfboards, which seems effortless when you watch the crew fly past, but is actually quite challenging. Loon is also a scuba diver's dream. The crew has several master divers and dive instructors who can take you out each morning, and they have all of the equipment you need onboard. They can also certify new divers during the trip.
The 180-foot yacht has a staggering 1,100 gross tons of living space, elegant design, and an amiable and attentive crew. Loon has two master staterooms, including a unique one on the upper deck. It has wraparound windows that offer unparalleled views of the surroundings. There are two salons, including one with recliners and a projector for movie night, plenty of spaces for dining alfresco, and an oversized infinity-edge Jacuzzi with a wet bar nearby. Fancy a workout? Loon has a treadmill, exercise bike, rowing machine, and free weights in the beach club. You'll be hard-pressed to find better workout views than this.
The crew is absolutely lovely and specializes in setting up unique experiences. You might have a pizza night on board, a barbecue on a private beach, or sundowners at the Instagram-famous Loon Bar. The crew will even take you to a picture-perfect sandbar and serve you drinks as you loll in the warm water.
Loon is available for charter from IYC in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda during the winter months and in the Mediterranean in the summer months. Rates begin at $325,000 a week plus expenses.
Nansen Explorer
For the ultimate Antarctica adventure, you can't beat a voyage aboard Nansen Explorer . This former research vessel has all of the technical features needed to safely explore one of the world's most remote and dramatic landscapes and, thanks to a retrofit in 2021, an ultra-luxe interior design that wouldn't look out of place in St. Tropez. For exploration, Nansen Explorer has an Ice-1A classed 236-foot hull and an ice-experienced captain and bridge team, which means she can go deeper into the ice than other polar-classed superyachts. There's a heli-deck with onboard fueling capabilities, so you can see the vast landscape from the sky, or even go heli-skiing. There are plenty of toys that allow you to get up close and personal with wildlife and nature, including kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, dive equipment, and Zodiacs.
The interiors are so stylish, modern, and well-appointed that you'll forget you're in the middle of Antarctica rather than at a swanky hotel. The ship originally accommodated 60 passengers, but now it holds just 12 guests in seven cabins, including an owner's suite and a VIP suite. Each cabin has large windows that showcase the stunning vistas outside the ship. The sumptuous Scandanavian-inspired decor features shades of grey and white, which reflect the surrounding environment. There's a cozy lounge with a bar and a fireplace, perfect for warming up after an excursion to see penguins or whales.
Nansen Explorer is available for charter from Plan South America in Antarctica. Rates begin at $340,000 a week and are all-inclusive.
Yachting in French Polynesia is always a blissful experience, but Dardanella takes relaxation to the next level with bespoke, wellness-focused charters planned by onboard wellbeing facilitator Ayumi Gallagher. The wellness experience is all-encompassing, including fresh, detoxifying food, mindfulness workshops, yoga sessions, Pilates, meditation, and massages alongside traditional yacht activities, like diving, surfing, and tender safaris exploring the pristine waters and nature of French Polynesia. The captain is also a qualified marine biologist and ecologist, so he's the perfect person to show you this unique environment. There are two dive instructors, 12 sets of dive gear, a Nitrox dive compressor, and underwater photography equipment, so you can capture the beauty underwater, too. As an expedition yacht, Dardanella is well-suited for exploring remote destinations. The 121-foot yacht was refit in 2018 and has five luxurious cabins.
Dardanella is available for charter from 37south in French Polynesia. Rates begin at $100,000 a week plus expenses.
With seven decks, there's something for everyone aboard Wheels . This massive yet elegant yacht measures 249 feet, weighs almost 2,000 gross tons, and has lots of standout amenities including a spacious cinema for eight guests, a huge aquarium, massage room with a dedicated onboard masseuse, air-conditioned gym, and the main salon converts to a disco complete with lights and a smoke machine for those late-night dance parties. The split-level master suite has panoramic views, a study, and plenty of space, and there are four spacious guest suites on the main deck. Outside, there are plenty of relaxation areas, including sunpads, a hot tub, several dining areas and bars, and an enviable water sports area with two Jet Skis, four wave runners, three seabobs, a luxurious tender, and plenty more toys. The crew is very active and can teach you to wakeboard, kitesurf, sail the new Hobie cat catamaran, or scuba dive. They can also lead yoga and fitness classes.
Wheels is available for charter from Fraser Yachts in the Caribbean. Rates begin at $680,000 a week plus expenses.
Inside the €775,000-a-Week Superyacht That Was the Talk of Monaco Yacht Show
It's not uncommon for yacht charterers to "upgrade" their yachts year after year, chasing newer and bigger boats, which is makes Big Sky 's number of repeat bookings even more impressive. The 157-foot yacht has been a charter favorite since 2010, and she recently underwent a refit leaving her in immaculate condition. Big Sky can accommodate 10 guests in five staterooms, including a full-beam master that spans the width of the yacht, and there's plenty of room onboard to relax, including the main salon with large windows and a state-of-the-art TV system. The sky lounge is perfect for entertaining — it has an onyx bar and sliding windows that make you feel as if you are outside. Of course, if you do want to relax outdoors, there are three teak decks with space for dining and a large sundeck with a Jacuzzi, sun pads, couches, and a bar.
Big Sky is available for charter from Northrop & Johnson in the Bahamas. Rates begin at $180,000 a week plus expenses.
This glamorous new superyacht caused quite a stir when she debuted at the Monaco Yacht Show in September 2021. It's rare for a brand-new superyacht of this size to be available immediately for charter, so book your trip on Tatiana early. This 263-foot yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests, who are guaranteed impeccable service from the 20 crew members. She has a great selection of water accoutrements and a stunning design with a large amount of interior space, including a deck dedicated to the owner's suite. There are also two VIP staterooms, four double cabins, and a twin cabin. While away any rainy days in the movie room or shooting some pool. Tatiana also has a fabulous beach club with a large bathing platform, bar, and outdoor lounge.
Tatiana is available for charter from IYC in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Bermuda during the winter months and in the Mediterranean in the summer months. Rates begin at €775,000 a week plus expenses.
Nour El Nil Meroe
Step back in time aboard Nour El Nil Meroe , a traditionally inspired Egyptian yacht full of modern amenities and luxurious design. Meroe is available for charter through Black Tomato, a top luxury travel company known for its expertly curated trips with exclusive experiences and a focus on local culture. Meroe is styled like a classic dahabiya boat, with authentic decor featuring whitewashed walls and linens alongside Parisian decor details. The VIP cabins have floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Nile — we can't think of a more fabulous way to have breakfast in bed — while the other cabins have large windows. The shaded roof terrace has plenty of spots for lounging and dining alfresco, and there's a cheery indoor salon with red-and-white striped decor and cozy couches. On your charter, you'll slowly sail down the Nile River from Luxor to Aswan. You can charter just the yacht voyage or book the Ultimate Egypt trip , which includes adventures on land as well as the yacht charter (think: private tours of the pyramids, exploring temples, or taking a jeep safari around Siwa).
El Nil and the Ultimate Egypt trip can be booked through Black Tomato . Rates begin at $5,800 a person.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection
One of 2022's most anticipated travel launches is the new The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection . While this is technically a small-ship cruise, every element has been designed to make you feel as if you are aboard a superyacht. The fleet will ultimately have three custom-built yachts, each with 149 suites. However, in 2022, the collection will launch with their first luxury vessel: Evrima . The suites all have private terraces, which isn't something you can expect aboard even the largest superyacht. And of course, the amenities are incredible. It has a beautiful spa, stunning marina terrace (set up like a yacht beach club), an infinity-edge pool, a large gym, and plenty of entertainment. The dining options are seemingly endless, including the main restaurant, the Evrima Room, S.E.A., which features a menu by acclaimed chef Sven Elverfeld of Aqua, Talaat Nam, a Southeast Asian spot, and several casual options.
The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's inaugural voyage is set for May 2022 and pricing is dependent on the itinerary. Learn more about the trips here .

Find the Answers to the Most Commonly Asked Questions About Yacht Charter Yacht Charter FAQs
As the ultimate luxury holiday, a superyacht rental can be tailored uniquely to your needs and preferences. Our experienced brokers work with you to understand which private yacht for charter is perfect for you. Then, using their global network of over 3,000 luxury yachts for charter, they will find all available yachts that match your requirements. Using their extensive local knowledge, your Charter Broker can work with the Captain to advise a charter itinerary that is totally unique to you. Should you have questions at any stage of the charter process, your broker will be available to assist.
Once you have decided you wish to proceed with booking your superyacht for charter, we will issue you with a contract. This is likely one of two standard contracts depending on the cruising region. The most common is the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) charter agreement, endorsed by a leading London maritime lawyer. This contract has evolved over the last 20 years and is now regarded as the reliable industry standard. The two-part American Yacht Charter Association (AYCA) agreement is primarily used in the U.S. and with U.S.-flagged vessels, also adopting terms from the MYBA agreement.
What is and is not included in the price of your superyacht for charter varies from yacht to yacht and you may be expected to pay the following in addition to the set charter rate: – APA – The APA, or Advanced Provisioning Allowance, represents the operating expenses that you will incur during your stay on board, including but not limited to fuel, berthing fees, customs charges and food and beverages. – Shipping/supply agent fees – Local taxes – Delivery fees
Your broker will gladly advise you on all additional charges during the process of selecting your luxury yacht for charter.
In most cases, you will be required to pay (by wire transfer) a 50% deposit of the total yacht hire fee upon signing the Charter Agreement. The remaining 50% of the charter fee plus the APA and any applicable taxes, delivery fees and security deposit are due one month before the beginning of your charter.
Culinary excellence is often the highlight of any yacht charter, and your personal chef will ensure your dining experience is no different. Prior to your charter, we will ask you to complete an information sheet noting your culinary preferences or any special dietary requirements, beverages, newspapers, flowers or other special requests. Details on any medical issues, allergies and special occasions can be noted. We encourage you to divulge as much information as possible to give the crew a detailed understanding before you step on board your luxury yacht for a charter like no other.
It is common practice on most luxury yachts for charter that small quantities of personal laundry are carried out by the yacht’s crew as a service. Please note that these terms also allow the crew to refuse politely to do excessive quantities of laundry on board or to handle particularly delicate items. It may be possible to have certain laundry done ashore professionally if time allows, the cost of which will be deducted from the APA.
If your time on board a private yacht rental has been everything you hoped it would be, by all means, show your appreciation with a gratuity. However, please note that, on all superyachts for charter, although crew gratuities are customary, they are left at your sole discretion. As a guideline, we would suggest between 10% and 20% of the charter fee to be split equally between the crew depending on the level of service.
Generally, on luxury yachts for charter, smoking is not permitted inside the yacht for safety reasons. Many private yachts operate a policy of smoking permitted on deck only; however, please check the policy as each yacht varies in its approach to smoking on board.
Typically, two seasons are ideal for chartering a private yacht. The summer season lasts from the beginning of May until the end of October and mainly revolves around the Mediterranean, whereas the winter season runs from November until April when the Caribbean and Bahamas are traditionally the destination of choice. We have many superyachts for charter during these periods in destinations around the globe, however it is crucial to keep in mind that popular yachts in the most exclusive destinations are typically booked months in advance.
The total cost of your private yacht hire will depend on a variety of factors. This includes the size and type of yacht you charter, alongside your cruising area, travel itinerary and any other special requirements you have for your luxury yacht experience. Don't hesitate to get in touch with our specialist team to find more information on our yacht rental prices and our services.

What people are saying
“Canvas Yacht Charters and Doug are a pleasure to work with. Doug’s follow-up skills are remarkable and attention to detail are bar none. I very rarely leave reviews, but I can, without a doubt, recommend Canvas and Doug to everyone I know. Thanks again D!”
“We recently celebrated our 25th anniversary with three other couples, our dearest friends, on a week-long sailing charter. The trip was arranged by Doug Tibbs at Canvas Yacht Charters, and his assistance was invaluable every step of the way. He listened to our dreams for the trip, the things we were really hoping for and things we wanted to avoid, non-negotiates and crazy ideas, and he filtered them all to present us with several charter options, any one of which would have been wonderful, but we ended up on Ghost. Doug’s attention didn’t stop with the booking. He made sure we were kept aware of various important deadlines, including changes related to covid, connected us with the crew and conveyed to them all our preferences, and was available throughout to answer our big and small questions. This was truly the trip of a lifetime for every one of us onboard—the boat, the crew, the sailing, the food, the adventure. So many thanks to Doug for his care to make it everything we dreamed it could be—and we are already hoping to plan a repeat trip for next year!”
“It’s not often that I end up leaving a review for a service I didn’t end up booking, but the super customer service I received from Heather at Starrluxe definitely merits noting. From the first step in the process, she was helpful, professional, and extremely accommodating despite a difficult itinerary and an expedited time frame. She provided excellent options and went out of her way to address our every requirement. I deeply regret that our travel plans changed and we weren’t able to finalize our charter, but I greatly look forward to working with Starrluxe again in the future. Highly recommend!”
“Enjoyed working with Doug. He was attentive to our needs/desires. Got us a great boat with a great crew. He even got us a price reduction. I will look forward to working with him again.”
“Doug and his team helped us book a trip in two days for the following week. Great communications and expectation setting, which helped make the trip successful. We will recommend them to family and friends for their trips. -Cheers, John”

The best sailing yachts available to charter
While the industry is brimming with sensational motor yachts, there is nothing quite like handing yourself over to the elements and discovering the joys of sailing. With plenty of vessels to choose from this season, BOAT showcases some of the very best luxury sailing yachts for charter ….
Stats: 81m, Royal Huisman , 2020, 10 guests, 15 crew
Highlights : As the ninth-largest sailing yacht in service and the world’s second-largest all-aluminium sailing yacht, it’s no surprise that Sea Eagle is among the most impressive sailing charter yachts. She sports a modern aesthetic with her striking plumb bow and simplistic lines, while her long waterline and powerful Panamax schooner rig deliver distance.
The sailing yacht comfortably ticks over 21 knots in a moderate breeze, making her a top choice for keen sailors. Her sail area is 2,580 square metres upwind across three mainsails and can easily be hoisted or lowered at once, taking no more time than a sloop half the size.
Sea Eagle is available to charter with Y.CO with a weekly rate from €550,000
Maltese Falcon
Stats: 88m, Perini Navi , 2006(2023), 12 guests, 18 crew
Highlights: Maltese Falcon single-handedly transformed the superyacht industry after her delivery in 2006. A head-turner in any port, the 88-metre took six years to complete due to the complexity of her radical unstayed masts – made of 'weapons-grade' carbon fibre – and her computerised sail and mast control system.
Following an extensive refit at Italian yard Lusben, the refit division of Azimut-Benetti, Maltese Falcon was injected with a new lease of life and saw several major structural modifications, including the addition of a new 10-square-metre pool and sunbed on the aft portion of the flybridge deck. She also received a new steel-structured aft awning running from the superstructure to the stern sofa. Almost the entire interior was upgraded too, presenting her in immaculate condition for the 2024 charter season. A force to be reckoned with on the water, few yachts have such a presence in the industry, making the Maltese Falcon a fabulous charter yacht and a sublime choice once she resurfaces from her refit later this year.
Maltese Falcon is available to charter with Burgess with a weekly rate from $490,000
Stats: 57.5m, Royal Huilsman, 2010 (2023), 9 guests, 11 crew
Highlights : Twizzle , the 57.5-metre performance flybridge ketch is nothing short of remarkable in both appearance and performance. She is the product of years worth of research and one that pushed the boundaries of what is possible under sail. Her design is a collaboration between RWD , Dubois Naval Architects and Todhunter Earle, and she sports a unique sweep in her superstructure and wraparound glass.
Twizzle is the only Dubois-designed yacht where the superstructure design and interior layout were handled by another company. The complexity of the styling also called for automotive technology to be used in the process with the Alias car surface fairing program.
Twizzle is available to charter with Camper and Nicholson s with a weekly rate from €265,000
Stats: 58.4m, Alloy Yachts, 2010 (2018), 10 guests, 10 crew
Highlights: Built in 2010 by the renowned New Zealand-based shipyard, Alloy Yachts, designed by Dubois Naval Architects and interiors by RWD, sailing yacht design credentials don’t get more impressive than this. A true sailing great Kokomo has only recently come onto the charter market following her sale towards the end of 2023 and is now the largest pedigree sloop available. Her interiors are a blend of cream furniture and light wood with pops of colourful art and intricate sculptures. While out on deck she has a host of relaxing lounge areas and an on-deck Jacuzzi.
Kokomo can reach speeds of up to 15 knots, with additional power coming from two Caterpillar engines. At 450GT, this is remarkable, making her a fine choice for anyone who feels the draw of a pedigree sailing yacht. She features the largest asymmetric sail globally and a remarkable 75-metre carbon fibre mast by Southern Spars, inclusive of carbon fibre EC6 fore/aft rigging.
Kokomo is available for charter with Cecil Wright with a weekly rate from €240,000
Stats: 51.8m, Alloy Yachts , 2009 (2024), 12 guests, 9 crew
Highlights : Originally launched in 2009 as Mondango II at Alloy Yachts, this Dubois-designed bluewater cruiser is a multi-award-winning ketch-rigged sailing yacht offering an outstanding combination of performance excellence and comfort. Following a refit this year (2024), her interiors are intrinsically contemporary, designed by Reymond Langton with plenty of glass, polished metal finishes, and a subtle oriental influence.
Out on deck, Q boasts a flybridge with a comfortable seating area a dining table, and a large Jacuzzi surrounded by sunpads, ideal for entertaining and relaxing after a day out on the water. Her toy box is brimming with entertainment, from kayaks and water skis to snorkelling gear and inflatables.
Q is available to charter with Camper and Nicholsons with a weekly rate from €255,000
Stats: 63.2m, Holland Jachtbouw, 2010, 12 guests, 10 crew
Highlights: Perfectly equipped to facilitate the perfect family sailing holidays, Athos strikes the perfect balance between high-powered performance and luxury living at sea. Her vast exterior deck offers plenty of space for socialising, with a shaded dining area on the aft and a private deck area adjoining the master suite. She is one of the largest two-masted schooners in the charter fleet, and thanks to her speed, delivers on the race circuit too.
The yacht recently returned to the charter market having undergone an extensive refit, which included a 1.25-metre extension at the stern and a total rebuild of the interior. Hoek Design once again stepped in to oversee the naval architecture, interior styling and layout changes of the guest accommodation, main saloon, crew service areas and deckhouse. Her styling is now warm and inviting, which has made her a more sophisticated offering.
Athos is available to charter with Y.CO from $220,000 per week.
Parsifal III
Stats : 53.8m, Perini Navi, 2005 (2024), 12 guests, 9 crew
Highlights: After gaining a starring role in the hit superyacht reality TV show Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Parsifal III will undoubtedly cause a stir in any marina. But this isn’t the only reason why this 53.8-metre sailing yacht is one of the finest charter vessels out there, her performance as one of the fastest yachts Perini has built, hitting top speeds of up to 16 knots thanks to her high-tech carbon masts and fully automated in-boom furling.
Hot on the heels of a recent refit in 2024, the yacht now stands in immaculate condition ready to take on the summer charter season. Outdoor entertaining areas are equipped with a hot tub, sunpads, a wet bar, and al fresco lounging and dining with an optional awning. For something a little different, guests can choose to dine on the hydraulic swim platform with the waves gently lapping at their feet. She has a striking interior styled by Rémi Tessier with dark ebony and light sycamore finishes offering further dining and socialising areas.
Parsifal III is available to charter with Camper and Nicholsons with a weekly rate from €245,000
Baracuda Valletta
Stats: 50m, Perini Navi, 2009, 10 guests, 7 crew
Highlights: Having been created by a partnership of the finest names in yachting, Baracuda Valletta is undoubtedly a pedigree. The 50-metre sailing yacht’s deep purple sails are immediately recognisable – alerting neighbouring yachts that there is a real performance ketch in the vicinity.
A canting keel offers stability when underway and lifts to leave a four-metre draft, allowing her to access shallow harbours and anchorages closer to shore . Baracuda Valletta’s interiors are minimal and contemporary, with pops of purple throughout – in keeping with her sails. She can accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins.
Baracuda Valletta is managed by Parsifal Yachting from €185,000 per week.
Stats: 49.7m, Fitzroy , 2012, 10 guests, 8 crew
Highlights: With an impressive regatta history, this 10-guest, 49.7-metre Ohana won’t let you down if you decide to bookend your cruise with a little competition. Built in 2012 with an extensive 2019 refit, she certainly doesn’t sacrifice comfort for sailing prowess.
On board guests will discover a whitewashed oak interior, a glamorous aft dining saloon encased in glass and a sprawling flybridge deck that’s perfect for socialising and sunbathing. There are also plenty of toys and diving gear on board, including water skis, a wakeboard, and paddle boards.
Ohana is managed for charter by Fraser from €185,000 per week (winter rate)
Stats : 64.5m, Van der Graaf , 2010, 12 guests, 11 crew
Highlights: A true-to-life replica of one of the world’s most iconic sailing yachts, Atlantic offers classic charm with modern amenities. The original vessel, also called Atlantic, was commissioned by Wilson Marshall, a notable New York Yacht Club member, and was designed by William Gardner; one of America’s foremost yacht designers. The original broke the record for the fastest crossing from New York to Cornwall, clocking up 341 miles in 24 hours and reaching a top speed of 14,1 knots. Sadly she was broken up in the early 80s, making room for the new Atlantic .
Today her classic lines are just as commanding and her traditional wood-panelled and red velvet interiors intrinsically welcoming. But on board, guests will find modern tech, with upgraded AV systems throughout. Meals can be taken al fresco or indoors aboard this rigged schooner, with a toybox offering sailing dinghies, Jet Skis and waterskiing gear for charter guests to enjoy.
Atlantic is available to charter wit h Edmiston with a weekly rate from €110,000

Popular Destinations for Yacht Rentals in the Mediterranean
Luxury yacht charters in the Mediterranean are divided into two distinct cruising grounds. The West Mediterranean has been the superyacht hotspot du jour for decades, with the most popular yacht rental destinations undeniably being the South of France, Monaco , Italy , Sardinia, Corsica and the Ibiza. Diverse and exciting, these countries offer some of the finest cuisines, architecture, cities, and coastlines to be found in the region.
But East Mediterranean yacht rental destinations like Greece and Turkey are also buzzing with charter activity, thanks to their incredible culture and history, spellbinding anchorages and boundless islands that make for a rip-roaring yacht charter itinerary. Montenegro and Croatia yacht charters are also becoming increasingly in-demand, with a number of state-of-the-art superyacht marinas having been developed in recent years adding to their attractiveness.
Popular West Mediterranean Regions

The most popular West Mediterranean yacht charter locations are:

Who Goes on a Mediterranean Yacht Charter?
The cultural heartbeat of the rich and famous in the summertime, the Mediterranean has long been welcoming the jet set to its sun-drenched shores. Well-to-do hedonists and socialites enjoy the beach club buzz, designer boutiques and glittering throng of exclusive events found in hotspots like the South of France and Monaco, where some of the most important dates in the calendar year like the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival also take place.
Equally, with an outstanding array of tranquil beaches, bays and inlets to explore, the Mediterranean is also a veritable nirvana for families or those simply seeking serenity on their yacht charter vacation.
History and Culture
The Mediterranean sea is connected to the Atlantic Ocean, bordering more than 22 different countries, and over 3,000 islands, the largest two being the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia. Its name comes from two Latin words: 'Medius” (Middle) and “Terra” (Earth/Soil), roughly translated as the center of the Earth, and the sea itself is thought to be more than 5 million years old.
In terms of Mediterranean culture, there isn't a one size fits all approach — each and every country in the region has their own. But we can say that there are some overarching themes: an appreciation of the finer things in life being one of them: of nature and of cuisine.
Types of Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean
A luxury crewed yacht rental vacation in the Mediterranean is without a doubt the best way to lap up the natural splendor of this magical region, offering you access to a dizzying array of splendid spots far from the typical tourist trail.
With an extensive selection of vessels available to choose from, the perfect yacht for you and your charter party is destined to be out there. Unsure whether a crewed motor yacht charter, sailing yacht charter, or in some cases, a gulet charter will work best for you? We've laid out the main aspects to consider before making a final decision.
Motor Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean
A crewed motor yacht charter in the Mediterranean is the epitome of luxury. With seven-star amenities and hotel-serviced living coupled with a completely unrivaled level of privacy, it's no wonder a motor yacht has evergreen appeal. Uncover awe-inspiring that are only accessible by boat, and experience what it's like to have your own floating palace.
There is a huge variety of Mediterranean motor yachts available, from 100m superyachts with all the latest charter-focused amenities to small speedy weekend cruisers, or somewhere in between. But do keep in mind when selecting your motor yacht that slips here are in high demand during the summertime, which means it's more likely you will spend time at anchor.
As for yacht types, those with planing hulls are perfect if you want to zip through locations at speed quickly. However, they are usually less stable at anchor.
Displacement and semi-displacement hulls are slower and make up most of the global charter fleet, They are more comfortable, voluminous, and more stable with at anchor stabilizers.
Sailing Yacht Charters in the Mediterranean
Selecting a luxury crewed sailing yacht charter in the Mediterranean is a wonderful choice for guests looking for a slower vacation pace, where you will be wooed by the sailing yacht's old-school charm. Plus, with most sailing conditions in the Mediterranean being extremely favorable, typified by calm seas and light winds (apart from the Meltemi at certain times in Turkey and Greece), this is absolutely a sailing paradise.
And with an extensive selection of catamarans, monohulls and racer sailers available, it won't be difficult to find a charter sailing yacht in the Mediterranean that will meet your requirements.
Gulet Charters in the Mediterranean
In Turkey & Croatia you also have an additional charter option: the possibility of renting a gulet with a full crew. Gulets are traditionally Turkish-built wooden motor sailor yachts which are usually much larger in volume than your average sailing yacht, with an abundance of open-plan living spaces.
Turkish gulet yachts are less expensive than other charter vessels of the same size, and can often offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day. Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and can provide a lot of valuable expertise.
You can visit Greek Islands on your Turkish gulet charter vacation, but you will need to embark and disembark in a port in Turkey unless it has a Greek Charter Licence - which is very rare.
Gulets are not available in the West Mediterranean cruising areas.
How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Mediterranean?
The average price of a motor yacht or sailing yacht rental in the Mediterranean will depend on several factors, including the vessel's age, type, crew, as well as the duration of the vacation and whether it is high or low season.
With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget. For convenience we have listed the average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in the Mediterranean below;
- For motor yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can range from $31,541 to $1.6m per week, plus expenses
- For luxury sailing yacht rentals in the Mediterranean, prices can go from $20,491 to $532,784 weekly, plus expenses
One aspect to keep in mind is that there are important distinctions to be made between the average costs for West Mediterranean and East Mediterranean yachting vacations. While exact costs can vary from yacht to yacht, typically, West Mediterranean yacht charters will involve newer, larger vessels and include a high-quality, international workforce, and therefore tend to usually incur higher prices. Meanwhile, East Mediterranean yacht charters will usually use older vessels and feature highly knowledgeable local crews.

When is the Best Time for Mediterranean Yacht Charters?
The best time for a yachting vacation on the Mediterranean is between May and August, although weather is still pleasant in the shoulder months of April and September, with some East Mediterranean locations experiencing high temperatures well into October (Croatia, Turkey, Greece).
Yacht charter guests in the Mediterranean during these months can expect mellow seas, cloudless skies long, sunbaked days and low rainfall.
However, if you are looking to evade the crowds and the heat, avoid July and August.
Where Should I Begin My Mediterranean Yacht Charter?
France is by far the most popular starting point for the classic "Mediterranean milk-run charter" route (Saint Tropez to Portofino), with this term coined in the industry to reflect the most celebrated and chicest locations along the Côte d'Azur.
The best place to begin a Mediterranean yacht charter is in Nice for itineraries along the coast and towards the Italian Riviera, with the majority of guests flying into Nice Airport before being chauffeured to its port or Antibes. Cannes Vieux Port (which is a mere 30-minute drive from Nice's Airport) is also popular if beginning further west towards Saint-Tropez .
Ibiza is also a popular starting point for Balearics charters, while Positano and Ajaccio are useful embarkation ports for Amalfi Coast and Corsica yacht charters respectively.
For East Mediterranean itineraries, Athens is a popular choice for charters around Greece's Aegean archipelagos, with the highest concentration of yacht rentals, while superyachts cruising the Ionian and Adriatic Coast tend to be flexible, with charters embarking from any number of popular destinations; from Venice in Italy down to Corfu in Greece's Ionian Islands.
Popular Marinas and Moorings in the Mediterranean
There are many marinas in the Mediterranean, but there are some, especially within the French and Italian Riviera that are highly coveted such as St Tropez and Portofino, which means mooring costs in this region in the summer tend to be highest and availability is often extremely limited.
If you would like to spend a night in port while on your charter yacht in the Mediterranean, be sure to make this clear to your crew or your charter broker well in advance, as there is strong competition for slips.
Below is our selection of some of the finest and most popular marinas in the Mediterranean:
French Riviera Marinas
- Vieux Port de Cannes and Port Pierre Canto in Cannes, both cater to all sizes of yachts and with 1,200 berths.
- Port Cogolin in Saint Tropez, which boasts 1,600 berths for yachts of up to 50m/164ft, and Port Vauban in Antibes, which caters to yachts up to a 165m/541ft LOA.
- Port de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat , located near the idyllic village of Villefranche-sur-Mer. This marina has 560 berths that can accommodate yachts up to 60m/197ft in length.
Italian Riviera Marinas
- Marina di Loano , not far from the French border can accommodate 900 vessels up to 77m/252ft in length.
- Porto Mirabello , in La Spezia caters to yachts of up to 100m/328ft, and a perfect point for exploring the region's jaw-droppingly pretty Cinque Terre.
Amalfi Coast Marinas
- Marina di Stabia is one of the most popular places to begin a yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast, and boasts luxury facilities and the capacity to host yachts measuring up to 100m.
Marina Piccola in Sorrento has 280 berths, catering to yachts measuring up to 40m.
Corsica Marinas
- Port Ajaccio Tino Rossi , the capital's largest marina, has 300 slips and caters to yachts of up to 100m/328ft
- Port Calvi , located in the northwest with 150 berths for yachts up to 65m/213ft LOA.
- Port de Plaisance Saint-Florent ,a pretty marina tucked away in the north with 920 slips, and in close proximity to vineyards and the stunning Saleccia beach.
Popular Marinas in Greece
Kos Marina , close to the enchanting island's old harbor, this marina has a capacity for up to 250 berths with a maximum length of 80m.
Gouvia Marina , Corfu's most popular, situated in a secluded bay, with mooring of yachts of up to 80m, and boasts 1235 slips.
Athens Marina , accommodating 130 slips measuring up to 130m. Provides plenty of amenities on land, including a helipad service.
Popular Marinas in Croatia and Montenegro
- D-Marin Mandalina (Šibenik) , an award-winning marina set between two national parks in a naturally protected lagoon, with 429 sea berths for yachts up to 140m LOA and all modern marina facilities.
- ACI Marina Split , 5-star marina offering 318 protected berths, accommodating superyachts up to 90m LOA, in the heart of Croatia’s jewel.
- Porto Montenegro , award-winning marina offering an array of five star facilities, including a vibrant marina village, upscale bars, restaurants, designer emporiums and high-end boutiques, and catering to yachts up to 250m LOA.
Popular Marinas in Turkey
Kaş Marina , recently developed and has capacity for 450 yachts.
D-Marin Marina , tucked away in protected natural cove minutes from central Göcek with a 380 slip capacity for yachts up to 70m.
Setur Antalya Marina , renowned superyacht marina, capacity reaches 235 yachts.
Where to End a Mediterranean Yacht Charter
Portofino is one of the best places to disembark your Mediterranean yacht charter if you are embarking on the typical week-long yachting vacation along 'the milk run' (incorporating destinations in the French Riviera and Ligurian Coast). Guests usually take a helicopter back to Nice or Genoa airport.
For two-week-long Mediterranean charter vacations, Bonifacio is one of the most popular places to finish a private yacht charter in the Mediterranean due to its outstanding natural beauty. It boasts one of the most stunning port entrances in Europe, bordered by soaring limestone cliffs on one side, and on the other its impressive medieval old town teeters on a hilltop. Upon leaving, guests are chauffeured to nearby Ajaccio international airport.
For East Mediterranean charters, Athens is a popular disembarkation port, as well as Porto Montenegro and Dubrovnik or Split on the Adriatic Coast, all of which offer good transport links with international airports.
How to Book Your Yacht Charter in the Mediterranean
If you want to book a yachting vacation in the Mediterranean, we strongly advise booking through a qualified yacht charter broker at least three months in advance. By doing so, you will increase the likelihood of securing your preferred dates and you will have a greater selection of yachts on offer to choose from.
This also ensures your yacht broker has enough time to craft a personalized itinerary and secure an overnight berth in the most popular marinas.

Mediterranean Yacht Charter Q&A
We advise booking your Mediterranean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Mediterranean.
One of the wonderful aspects about renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is the exceedingly long season. For example in West Mediterranean locations like France, Spain and Italy, the best time to visit is usually from May until September. This balmy weather extends to well into October in East Mediterranean destinations like Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.
For your Mediterranean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.
When booking a Mediterranean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.
Please consult your yacht charter broker for any other costs you may need to factor in for your yacht charter in the Mediterranean.
