Who is Barnaby Birkdeck? 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht's new deckhand is jealous of billionaires
Ever since deckhand Tom Pearson was fired for running Parsifal III aground, 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht's deck crew had to put in some extra work to make sure everything went smoothly. After all the safety and comfort of the charter guests is an important factor when it comes to tips. After weeks of back-breaking work with little to no sleep, first officer Gary King finally got to heave a sigh of relief when he heard that Tom's replacement would soon be joining the deck team.
Tom's replacement turned out to be a man named Barnaby Birkbeck. Based on the preview clip released by Bravo it seems like Barnaby not only managed to impress his new boss Gary but also Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher, Colin Macrae, and Marcos Spaziani , who all comment on Barnaby's good looks and declare that he is the kind of boy you would take home to introduce to your parents! Aside from his good looks, Barnaby also appears to have a very impressive CV that made a pretty strong impression on Captain Glenn. If you're curious to know more about the new deckhand on the Bravo show, then keep reading.

Who is the new deckhand Barnaby Birkbeck?
Just like Tom, Barnaby too hails from England, This Brighton native is a true world traveller though. During a conversation with his co-star Kelsie Goglia, he revealed that he was in Greece when he got a call and was offered a job aboard Parsifal III. He explained, " was in Greece when I got the call. I was on a private island there teaching some Greek billionaires how to, like, eFoil and wakeboard, and that kind of thing. I'm a water sports instructor, really. I guess it's kind of similar to this, just without the water sports."
He revealed that he had some very high-profile clients as well over the years. "When I was 18, I had a very lucky break with going to Necker Island and teaching kitesurfing to the rich and famous. That's on my CV, like, Barack Obama, Richard Branson, boom, let's go, let's go, let's go." Being surrounded by billionaires all the time and watching their lavish lifestyles can turn anyone green with envy, and it's no different with Barnaby either. He revealed, "When you work on superyachts or you work on private islands, you know what kind of lifestyle [clients] have, and that's annoying because I want it so badly.
Unlike many of his peers, Barnaby doesn't have much experience working on a superyacht. In fact, Parsifal III is the second superyacht he has ever worked on, but that doesn't seem to stop him from feeling excited about it. Barnaby immediately got to work and effortlessly juggled between his many tasks, and even managed to squeeze in some time to help out Daisy. This left both Gary and Daisy raving about the new crew member.
While working aboard superyachts may be a new thing for Barnaby, being in the water isn't. He shared, "I grew up in Singapore, and I started sailing when I was 11. Dad bought a boat. Eventually, we were racing it, and we realized, 'Wow, we're actually quite good at this.' And then suddenly, we were winning Singapore national championship. We were happy with that, so we went for it and got a fast racing boat, and went off and sailed it as fast and as hard as I can, and I love it!"
Aside from teaching water sports and being a deckhand on Parsifal III, Barnaby is also a serial entrepreneur. According to his LinkedIn profile , he founded Funky Face Masks, Barnaby's Tapcards, Barnaby's Brushes, and Electric Car Converts, He also holds a degree in geography and business management from the University of Leeds. Considering all the hustle, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he managed to buy a Porsche for himself in December 2021. He took to his Instagram to reveal his latest purchase with the caption, "Work hard and achieve your dreams earlier than you think kids!! Here’s what I’ve dreamt about for a long time. (Swipe for the noise she makes)."
We can't wait to learn more about Barnaby in the upcoming episodes of 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'.
'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3 airs every Monday at 8/7c on Bravo.
Here's Where the Cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 Is Now
Did the drama continue?
Since it debuted back in 2020, Bravo’s spin-off Below Deck Sailing Yacht has certainly delivered some of the most dramatic feuds and steamy boatmances, and it looks as if Season 3 is no different.
While Captain Glenn Shephard is returning to take the lead of the Parsifal III, there’s a lot that’s changed, including a brand new crew and filming location. The cast will be sailing through the stunning waters of Menorca, Spain, but they’ll definitely be hitting some rocky moments, especially when it comes to returning crew members Gary and Daisy’s love-hate romance.
Well, it seems as if there’s more to come as Bravo teases one of the most unexpected crew hookups in Below Deck history. Say what? With so much having happened during the cast’s filming last summer, what exactly have they been up to since?
Captain Glenn Shephard
Originally from Montreal, Capt. Glenn is returning for his third season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, and with over 21 years in the industry, he definitely knows what he’s doing. Following his time filming the third season, Glenn Shephard took advantage of a few months off and traveled quite a bit. The 61-year-old found himself in Ghent and Bruges, Belgium, all while venturing through Paris, France. Although he remains single for the time being, Captain Glenn poked some fun at rumors claiming he was dating former crew member, Sydney Zaruba, however, the Below Deck star made things clear the two are simply “great friends.” Glenn later returned to Miami, Florida just in time for the season debut.
Daisy Kelliher - Chief Stew
When Season 3 wrapped, Daisy Kelliher, who returned aboard the Parsifal III as chief stew, took some much-needed vacation time. Kelliher hit up Antigua in the Caribbean , which is where she rang in the New Year and has remained since filming. Considering her ongoing love-hate relationship with fellow castmate Gary King, Daisy remains single for the time being, but she’s certainly not fallen out of love with traveling. Despite appearing to be living the life so many wish they could, Daisy revealed she’s been suffering from severe separation anxiety as she shared just how hectic and demanding her line of work could be in a February 13, 2022 post on Instagram
Gary King - First Officer
Being involved in Bravo drama is nothing new for Gary, especially after his steamy season with Daisy. Well, after wrapping up season three in Menorca, Gary took some time off to reunite with his family; sharing an adorable photo of him and his niece, Ava , on Instagram. The Bravo star is currently in St. Lucia , soaking up the sun, but he hasn’t managed to escape the drama. After sharing a kiss with Daisy Kelliher in the most recent season three trailer, fans have been wondering if he and Daisy are an item. Well, despite the rumors, Gary and Daisy aren’t dating, after confirming to E! News that the two are “just friends.”
Colin McRae - Chief Engineer
Colin McRae has returned to his old stomping grounds aboard the Parsifal III, and considering his love for sailing, fans aren’t surprised to see the Bravo star back on their screens. Since wrapping up last summer’s filming, it didn't take too much time before Colin and fellow Chief Stew Daisy reunited back in December. Since then, Colin has given most of his time to his YouTube channel, Sailing Parlay , which features an array of videos showcasing his sailing adventures. Things are clearly going well for Colin’s online presence, considering he was rewarded with a YouTube 100,000 subscriber count plaque back on February 6. "It has been 4 years of VERY hard work, possibly the hardest of any sailing channel out there that I know of so far, and to reach this milestone is so gratifying for us,” he wrote on Instagram.
Marcos Spaziani - Chef
Say hello to Bravo’s newest chef, Marcos Spaziani. The Venezuela native has been in the industry for over 10 years and is bringing his culinary expertise to the waters of Menorca. It didn’t take much time for Marcos to make a name for himself following season three of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . Spaziani is currently settled in California and has decided to open up his very own restaurant in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Marcos and fellow chef Louis Huh have been working diligently on their newest business venture, ML Eats LA .
Gabriela Barragan - 2nd Stew
Gabriela Barragan reigns from San Diego and while she’s new to the Below Deck crew, she is certainly no stranger to yachting . Barragan has worked as both a stewardess and a deckhand over the course of the last two years and has continued her yachtie life after filming season three of Sailing Yacht . Gabriela spent January and February working a yacht in St. Thomas. After living and working the island life, Gabriela took to Instagram to share that all of her “ wildest dreams are coming true ,” and considering she’s spending her days sailing through crystal clear waters, we don’t blame her.
Ashley Marti - 3rd Stew
Ashley Marti is making her Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut, and she’s relatively new to the industry. Marti first began working on yachts at the start of the pandemic. Although she reigns from New York , Marti is currently a West Coast gal as she takes in the Los Angeles sun alongside a few of her castmates. Since wrapping up Season 3, Ashley traveled through the United States and the Bahamas and is adamant about returning back aboard the Parsifal III, so Bravo fans just might be seeing more of her in the future.
Kelsi Goglia - Deckhand
Kelsi Goglia is making her Bravo debut this season of Sailing Yacht. After catching the travel bug following a trip to Croatia, Kelsi has been a yachtie ever since, and it doesn’t look like she’s turning back any time soon. She currently resides in San Diego, California, and loves herself some travel, as most Below Deck crew members do. While her romantic life remains a mystery, it’s clear she’s too busy roaming the world to settle down just yet.
Tom Pearson - Deckhand
Growing up on a lake , Tom Pearson is no stranger to the water, but he’s brand new to the Bravo family. The Below Deck Sailing Yacht deckhand was spotted getting his boatmance on, making us all wonder if he’ll be headed toward hot waters. Well, it seems as if Pearson remains single, but his life is anything but boring. After returning home to Windermere, England, Tom has kept busy surfing through the British waters but has taken quite a liking to his new image. The Bravo star has been attending a number of events following his newfound fame, including his most recent appearance in London, England for the launch of a new app on January 20.

Is Barnaby Birkbeck From 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Dating Anyone?
Published May 9 2022, 8:29 p.m. ET
Watching the latest episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht means you’ll probably recognize a few familiar faces. There are also some brand new individuals to get to know on the show as well. Barnaby Birkbeck is Parsifal III's newest crew member.
Barnaby's time on the yacht has already garnered a lot of attention since he doesn’t have too much sailing experience yet. He’s got a lot to learn, but fortunately for him, he's working with people who certainly know how to show him the ropes. Is he dating anyone right now?
Is Barnaby Birkbeck dating anyone right now?
On Aug. 17, 2021, Barnaby posted a loved-up photo of himself with a beautiful blonde named Hattie Blackstone. This is the most recent photo he posted with her, which leaves fans wondering whether or not the couple is still actively together.
Since he hasn’t removed the photo from his feed, chances are, they’re still dating! According to her Instagram , Hattie is a certified fitness trainer who focuses on self-improvement and health above all else.
Her bio says, “Strength is not only physical but within us! And together it is far more fun!” Her Instagram also provides a link to her official personal training website where clients can fill out a form to hire her for private coaching. You’ll have to add your first and last name, email address, phone number, and fitness goals.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Hattie 🌻 (@hattieblackstonefitness)
You’ll also have to reveal whether or not you use a gym, and if you’re looking for online coaching versus in-person personal training. Other details you can mention include fun facts about you, your availability, and how you came across Hattie's website in the first place. A quick scroll through Hattie’s Instagram won’t reveal any photos of her with Barnaby though. Are they still together?
It’s possible she doesn’t have any pictures with him because she wants her entire IG feed to be solely focused on her fitness business. As of now, Barnaby and Hattie both haven’t posted any statements about their relationship status, so it’s still slightly a mystery.
Here’s what else 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' fans should know about Barnaby Birkbeck.
It turns out Barnaby totally loves adventure and is excited to be a new crew member on such a popular yacht.
His Bravo TV bio says, “A world traveler at heart, deckhand Barnaby Birkbeck was born into adventure with roots in both Singapore and the United Kingdom. Having worked as a celebrity watersports instructor in both the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, Barnaby was able to seamlessly transition into the A-list world of yachting.”
It also mentions the fact that Barnaby has a passion for high standards of service and the great outdoors. It’s going to be very interesting to see how he continues working with other people on the yacht as he figures out his way in a new industry. Learning how to work on a yacht isn’t the easiest task ever, but he seems to be up for the challenge.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3, Episode 11 will air on Bravo on Monday, May 9 at 8:00 pm ET.

Bravo teases Below Deck Down Under: When will Season 3 premiere?
There’s some good news for Below Deck Down Under fans waiting to see Captain Jason Chambers back on their screens.
It’s been well over a year since Below Deck Down Under Season 2 ended.
The good news is that Below Deck Down Under Season 3 has been filmed.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Captain Jason gave an update this summer, including a tease at an alum that will return.
The other day, Bravo dropped another bit of happy news for the first time regarding the Below Deck spin-off.
Bravo teases Below Deck Down Under Season 3
During an episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Bravo shared a clip to promote the hit yachting franchise with Below Deck Med, Below Deck, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht all in the mix.
Below Deck Down Under fans, of course, now want to know when the show will be back on air. Only five episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht have aired, so it will be a couple of months before it wraps up.
When the sailing show is done, Below Deck Down Under should be next on the list. Based on the usual episode count for Below Deck Sailing Yacht, we can expect Below Deck Down Under to hit Bravo airwaves at the beginning of February.
There’s always the chance that Below Deck Season 12, which has also already been filmed, could air after Below Deck Sailing Yacht pushing Below Deck Down Under later into 2025.
It all depends on what Bravo and 51 Minds have in store for the hit-yachting franchise. Some fans are worried Below Deck Down Under and Below Deck Sailing Yacht are in jeopardy of being canceled.
There will be more on that later, though. For now, let’s focus on Season 3 of Below Deck Down Under since we know it will be back on Bravo airwaves.
Who is returning for Below Deck Down Under Season 3?
The cast for Below Deck Down Under remains under wraps but Captain Jason did confirm he’s back and committed to the show.
Sadly , Aesha Scott won’t return. She seems to have become the face of Below Deck Med with Captain Sandy Yawn.
Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph and Deckhand Harry Van Vliet are rumored to be back alongside the hunky captain for their second stint.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tzarina Mace-Ralph (@cheftzarina)
Be sure to keep checking in with Monsters and Critics for more information on Below Deck Down Under. Hopefully, we will have some good news in a few weeks.
Below Deck Down Under is currently on hiatus on Bravo. Seasons 1-2 are streaming on Peacock.

Below deck sailing yacht season 6 could be a success (the show should make these changes if it continues).

I Think Gary King Calling Out Below Deck’s Producer Interference Could Save His Reputation (He’s Not Holding Back)
Will below deck sailing yacht get a new captain (captain glenn's red flags ruined reputation), below deck sailing yacht producers should have edited gary king out (he's ruining the show).
Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6 could be a success in the future even after the current season’s been a major flop if the show makes some major changes as it continues . While Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 was one of the most highly anticipated premieres of Bravo’s fall lineup, it’s been disappointing for viewers who were ready to see more drama. Despite knowing that things would likely be a bit different for the series after Gary King’s drama derailed the show for nearly a year, viewers were hopeful that the new season would bring back the same energy.
Instead, Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has been a disappointment thus far. Rather than removing Gary from the show after his major sexual misconduct allegations , Gary has been edited out of the show as much as possible but remains a major part of the series. This limitation has made it difficult for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 to tell a full story and pushed them to put their drama into other departments instead of just sharing what was going on on the sailing yacht. If Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6 is picked up, things have to change .
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Is Struggling
The season doesn’t have big drama.
Although Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 was one of the most highly anticipated shows of the season, it hasn’t been making the type of splash that viewers had hoped. While there are still devoted viewers of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , many have struggled with the current season’s lack of drama , especially knowing what was going on with Gary throughout the show’s filming schedule. While there’s meant to be more happening in the rest of the season, it’s been tough to watch.
While there has been a lot going on between Daisy Kelliher and Gary, who exchanged some heated words during the Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 reunion , their energy has been overwhelming to deal with. Daisy, who tried to clear the air with Gary before they started filming for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, has been hurt that her old friend spoke to her in a difficult way and then refused to apologize , but otherwise, the crew drama has been sparse. Viewers are simply looking for something with more drama.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 6 Needs A Crew Overhaul
Gary & daisy need to take a break.
If Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6 is to become a reality, the season will need a total crew overhaul. While Captian Glenn Shephard can likely stay on as the sailing yacht’s leader, the rest of the crew needs to be revamped from top to bottom . Though Daisy is a good leader, her time on the series feels like it’s run out as she’s moved through her drama with her former boatmance, Colin MacRae, and her potentially problematic pal Gary. As for Gary himself, if he’s going to be edited out of the show so gratuitously, he shouldn’t take part.
Will Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 6 Become A Reality?
The show hasn’t been confirmed for another season.
While Bravo rarely announces its shows being renewed, it’s possible that Below Deck Sailing Yacht will be announced as a renewal or a cancelation for the network. Though many enjoy the series, it’s been a problem for the last year and may be causing the network more pain than its worth. It’s possible that the show may not come back, but if it does, there are some steps that can be taken in order to ensure that things are more on track during the next season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht .
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo.

‘Below Decking Sailing Yacht’ Exclusive Clip: Diana Cruz Gets Mad At Danni Warren For Slacking Off

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Star Daisy Kelliher Says ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Alum Detox’s Charter Got “Half The Crew Almost Fired”
‘below deck sailing yacht’ exclusive clip: daisy kelliher’s jaw drops after learning chef cloyce martin is only 22 years old, ‘below deck sailing yacht’ star captain glenn shephard didn’t know his bunkmate davide morosi sleeps in the nude until the season trailer: “it was a bit of a shock”.
What’s a season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht without a little drama between Stews? So far, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher has managed to keep the peace between Stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren. Sure, there’s been a little cocktail, tablescape and cabin squabbling, but such is the life of a yachtie! Unfortunately, the dynamics between the interior crew begin to shift in tonight’s episode.
In this exclusive clip, Diana is hard at work at the bar, making drinks for the guests. In the middle of her mixing ingredients, a guest comes up to her with her dress for the evening. “There seems to be a stain on the back,” says the guest. “Do you have a little stain remover?” Diana leans back against the wall, bracing herself for the additional task. “Yeah, I’ll try to do it.”
Meanwhile, Daisy is down in the galley as Danni is in the crew mess with First Officer Gary King. “How’s it looking up there?” asks Daisy as she looks at the menu for dinner. “It’s pretty,” replies Danni, looking at the guests’ preference sheets. Soon, Diana comes down the stairs to for help with the dress. “Danni, are you doing something?” asks Diana. “Yes, I’m decorating the table,” says Danni.
Never afraid to stir up trouble, Gary chimes in: “You hate laundry, don’t you, D?’ “No,” says Diana quickly. “No, it’s, like, I have things to do as well.” As Diana hurries to the laundry room, Danni takes her moment to flirt with Gary: “Will you come help me or are you enjoying your sit down?” Meanwhile, Diana mocks Danni to herself while getting out the stain in the guest’s dress. “Yeah, bro, you’re actually doing a lot by talking to Gary.”
Not able to convince Gary to help her, Danni goes back to the deck and starts hanging streamers with Deckhand Keith Allen. As soon as Diana delivers the dress and heads back up to the bar, Daisy radios her: “Diana, let me know when you’re done with the blue salt margaritas.” “Jesus Christ,” Diana mutters.
Up on the deck, Danni finishes decorating. “Where’s Diana?” wonders Danni. “I want to ask her if she wants to take a sunset pic with me.” As Danni goes down the stairs to get her, Diana reluctantly follows her. “By the way, I was actually doing something before,” says Diana. “Quickly,” urges Danni, wanting to commemorate the view with her co-worker.
As Danni hands her phone to Keith, Keith clocks Diana’s stressed out vibes. “Diana, you look so happy to be here,” says Keith jokingly. “Because I’m annoyed,” snaps Diana. “Why?’ asks Danni genuinely. “Because I am. I’ll talk to you later,” says Diana shortly. As the two pose, Diana urges Keith to hurry up and take the picture “because we have things to do.”
“What’s wrong?” asks Danni after Keith hands her back her phone. Diana begins: “I asked for help and I was hearing you in the crew mess laughing and I was like, ‘fuck’s sake!'” “I asked Gary for help,” says Danni defensively. “Oh, that’s not true, but alright,” says Diana condescendingly. “It was literally all about work,” insists Danni as she gestures to the balloons and streamers on deck. “I was busy setting this up because I’m the one that does most of this all the time,” says Danni. “I’m sorry if I can’t run up and down.”
“Next time, I’ll do it, for fuck’s sake,” snaps Diana. “We’re all working as a team.” Diana continues: “Like, while you’re doing this, I’m doing stuff downstairs.” “Which I’ve never disregarded or said that you weren’t,” replies Danni in shock. “We’re all busy then,” says Diana firmly as she turns and marches down the stairs. “I was busy, bro, what must I do?” asks Danni as she follows Diana hurriedly. Tune in to tonight’s all new Below Deck Sailing Yacht at 8/7c on Bravo to find out what happens next!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Recap: Emma Dilemma
Below deck sailing yacht.
We’re blessed this week with two crew nights out and a guest being finicky about drink garnishes. However, the main through-line of the episode is Emma’s insecurities — much less fun. It’s 12:05 a.m. at the club, and Emma is overreacting to Danni and Diana overreacting about what seemed like innocuous questions. It’s magnified because Emma’s already insecure about work and not belonging in the group, and thankfully they’re able to let it go.
Danni hopes something will finally happen with Keith, but she tells Diana that she’ll never make the first move. Back on the boat, Danni and Keith share a lounger, and he admits he shies away because she’s coming on so strong. Danni tells us she has dated a lot of fuckboys in the past; she cites an ex-boyfriend who now lives with her former best friend, and she doesn’t speak to either of them. That reflects more on her ex-friend than ex-boyfriend, but we’ll file it under potential trust issues. Danni thinks Keith is wholesome and the opposite of this past toxicity. We love to see it! Unfortunately, she might not have the patience to wait for him. Spoiler: She doesn’t.
Davide isn’t getting much screen time, probably because he’s stuck in the engine room and doesn’t interact with everyone as much. The snippets of him so far are entertainingly chaotic. Because Glenn is still awake when they return from the night out, he invites Glenn to the Jacuzzi. Glenn: “One-hundred percent not.” Later, he almost falls naked onto Glenn while getting into his top bunk. He says in the morning it’s the bed designer’s fault and not his. It’s definitely his fault for being nude (why?!) and drunk, so I’m curious if this inability to accept blame will show up again.
The next charter is a one-nighter with primaries Tiffany Moon of The Real Housewives of Dallas season five and her husband, Daniel. Cloyce says he’s up to the challenge because he once cooked for a lesbian O.C. Real Housewife who was outspoken about the food. (I’m assuming this was Braunwyn Windham-Burke .) They’ve requested a Japanese-style dinner, and Glenn nudges them to pull out all the stops. Daisy also checks in with Cloyce ahead of the charter, reminding him to raise the bar. I’d say it’s at about knee height right now — plenty of room to grow.
When Daisy doesn’t know the weather forecast and Glenn gives Davide sailing instructions, the guests make jokes questioning the crew’s capability. This slight rudeness that keeps the crew on its toes is exactly what I want to see from guests. Tiffany’s friend Joyce remarks on the tight quarters, “I could barely get through with my Birkin.” We get it: You’re rich!
On deck, Gary’s starting to think Emma’s work ethic and drive aren’t where they need to be. While sailing, she’s tasked with pulling out the lazy sheet (a rope that can control a sail but is currently not in use), but she can’t get it to the mark. Gary has to show her that she needs to put more weight into it. She’s struggling because she hasn’t worked on this kind of sailboat with a hydraulic system. Gary goes to Glenn, warning the captain that Emma’s greener than they thought and lacking urgency. This seems unfair because (as far as we know) he hasn’t even talked to her about urgency. Glenn, bless his heart, advises Gary that she might need more instruction and to see if she improves.
Danni and Keith are assigned to accompany the guests on a beach sunset photo shoot. Danni, as usual, flirts with Keith, nudging him and muttering things under her breath to him like, “That’ll be us one day.” Keith shuts it down; he thinks she shouldn’t be flirting in front of the guests. Danni could’ve taken his comment about coming on strong as constructive criticism but has completely forgotten it. Frustrated, she likens his work belt to a chastity belt and feels as if she’s courting in the Victorian era. I say that’s partially on her if she won’t make the first move.
I’m nervous for dinner when Cloyce reveals he hasn’t studied Japanese cuisine since sophomore year of high school. Proving me wrong, he’s ready on time and his avocado, crab, and prawn rolls and tempura are really well received. One guest, Madelaine, calls out that normally the chef would present the food — is he struggling? Danni appropriately laughs this off and says he wants to make it perfect. Cloyce does make an appearance to present the miso-glazed sea-bass main course. Like the tempura, it’s not plated individually. It’s a successful dinner, though I wouldn’t call it pulling out all the stops, especially for a one-night charter. If I were the primary, I’d want five-plus courses of individual plating. I could get more than what Cloyce serves at Benihana.
The guests may not have criticism of the food, but Jerry “J Mo” is particular about his espresso martinis. Daisy double-checks that Diana makes it correctly, but he complains that it has only one bean. In response, Diana says he’s getting decaf from now on. She says she was joking, but it didn’t come across as friendly. Danni thinks Diana isn’t soft or bubbly enough for service, and this does seem like an example of that. Danni makes another espresso martini for J Mo — this time with three beans. He’s so pleased he hugs her and does a whole high-five–handshake thing. Of course, Diana doesn’t enjoy watching this. The beans are just a garnish, but the single bean is an apt metaphor for the bare minimum that Diana is putting in.
Also under par is Emma’s performance on the night shift. She prefers interacting with people and falls asleep for about an hour. We were all rooting for you! It’s difficult to keep rooting for her after this — she’s so lucky the anchor wasn’t dragging. When she switches out with Keith, she says she’s pretty sure she got the whole boat done. Keith sees that the cockpit floor is sopping wet since Emma just rinsed it in her last hour. It should be dry by morning, and he also reports to Gary that it doesn’t seem as though she’s shammying everything. Gary asks Emma what happened with rinsing the boat, and she gets defensive because she did rinse it. He instructs her to prioritize rinsing decks that the guests frequent first. I fear Emma is not long for the Parsifal III , but when she calls her sister, Lauren, for advice, Lauren reminds her it’s only six weeks. Maybe she will get through it. If she does, she’s definitely getting a Most Improved edit.
As Tiffany leaves, she says they were blown away by the crew’s professionalism and service level. She specifically shouts-out Danni for the best three-bean espresso martinis. If only this attention were enough … The tip is a very good $25,000, and Glenn is complimentary of everyone. Daisy thinks it was Cloyce’s strongest charter yet.
The crew heads out to dinner, and Diana hopes there are hot people there. I miss if there are any, because I can’t look away from Danni’s hideous skull ring. Emma’s not feeling well, so she goes for a cigarette with Daisy. Oh, the irony. Daisy advises her not to let things eat at her, and Emma knows that panicking is making it worse. She goes outside and sits down on the side of the road, which looks quite bleak. Sweating and feeling faint, Emma decides to go back to the boat. To the others, Daisy diagnoses her with heat exhaustion, kindly not mentioning the mental aspect.
At the bar, Danni just wants to dance, but Keith wants to talk. He asks why she’s being so cold with him, and she says it’s always on his terms when they get to have fun. She doesn’t like that he won’t banter with her on a cliff at sunset because of guests. Keith stands his ground; they’re here to do a job, and he doesn’t know his co-workers well enough to neglect it. Danni flippantly says she’s going to carry on with her life. Before cutting to commercial break, we get an ominous shot of the bar’s neon sign: “‘Trust me, you can dance’ —Tequila.”
Later, Daisy compliments Keith on him, Emma, and Davide helping out the interior. Danni hates that they’re talking about work and goes to dance with Gary, which includes some weird play-fighting. She calls it the best party ever, which it clearly isn’t. I don’t see anyone else dancing at 2 a.m. on what’s probably a Tuesday. While Gary throws Danni over his shoulder, Cloyce tells Keith he’s “getting really positive vibes from Daisy.” I think he has no chance, but there is a shot of them on the boat later hugging and she’s laughing. I shudder to think of it.
In the car on the way home, Keith confesses he hasn’t had a great night, so he lies in Daisy’s lap for comfort. She strokes his hair and tells him not to be apologetic for being sensitive. Is Keith about to swoop Cloyce? Nope: In an interview, Daisy says Keith would make a great partner, but she seems uninterested because he’s too nice. Keith, you deserve better.
In the other car, Danni jokingly chokes Gary (or maybe for real? He turns pretty red), and it seems as if they might kiss. Everyone else goes to bed while the two stay up to hot-tub. They see a group jumping in the water off the dock, so Gary suggests they also jump in. This is the attention Danni has been missing. In the water, they kiss. This first kiss of the season at five episodes in is uncharacteristically late for Sailing Yacht. At least it’s a faraway shot, so we don’t have to see any sloppiness. We’re spared from further horrors since that’s the end of the episode, but I’m not looking forward to seeing it replayed — or where they go from here — next week.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 5 Recap: Nice Guys Finish Last
We’re back with the recap for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 5. Last week , Chef Cloyce was late serving lunch, and the captain wasn’t happy about it. Daisy hired a mermaid and a DJ to celebrate the primary guest’s 60th birthday, while Cloyce’s birthday cake was a disaster. And Danni and Diana bickered over who does cabins and who gets to do service. Here’s exactly what went down in BDSY Season 5, Episode 5: “Bean Counter.”
What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 5?
In this week’s episode, Gary gets more frustrated with Emma in direct proportion to her own anxiety about her job performance. Danni thinks Keith should lighten up and be more flirty with her, but he’s just trying to remain professional in front of the guests. Danni’s ability to banter with the guests and make “the perfect three-bean espresso martini” annoys Diana. And despite Keith’s interest in Danni, she ends the evening swimming in the bay and making out with Gary. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 5.
More cooking, less swimming this charter
Charter number three is a “quick overnight charter,” according to Captain Glenn. Tiffany and Daniel from Dallas are the primaries. Tiffany was on The Real Housewives of Dallas . I never watched that one, but I’ve heard she’s a great woman.
Daisy gives Cloyce a pep talk and assures him that “we are in this together.” Hopefully, he’ll get his act together this charter and “bring up the bar.”
“ No swimming this charter ,” Glenn reminds him. It doesn’t seem like there will be much of an opportunity if it’s just an overnight – but let’s see how it goes…
Gary questions Emma’s lack of deck skills
Gary’s getting more frustrated with Emma. “I’m slowly starting to realize that her work ethic is not all there,” he says. “There’s no motivation or drive.”
The guests are only on the boat for one night, so as soon as they leave the harbor, it’s time for a sail. When Glenn wants to tack in the other direction, Emma is too slow pulling up the “lazy sheet,” and they lose the wind, coming to a standstill.
“Timing is very important because you can lose the wind,” Glenn explains. “If the timing is wrong, it’ll mess everything up.”
Finally, Glenn radios Emma to find out what she’s doing. “I can’t bring any more out at all,” she responds. “Nothing more is coming out.”
“This is f*cking ridiculous,” Gary complains, going to check on his deckhand. He tells her to throw her body weight into pulling the line out, and it begins to move.
“F*cking hell,” he mutters, walking away.
“Parsifal’s the biggest boat I’ve worked on,” Emma says. “Gary comes down on his f*cking white horse with his cape flying in the wind. And, of course, maybe I’m doing it wrong, and I’m just a poor little weak girl, and I can’t do it … I’m just f*cking inept.”
Later, Gary goes to the captain and asks to chat. “It’s come to my attention that Emma’s a lot greener than we originally thought ,” he says. “There’s a lack of urgency, lack of drive.”
Glenn thinks she just needs to understand “what’s going on with the sails” and tells Gary to keep working with her and see if she improves.
The missing espresso bean signifies bad luck
It’s Japanese night on the Parsifal III, so the guests of course want Japanese food.
“I am not an experienced Japanese chef,” Cloyce says in a confessional. “But sophomore year of high school, when we studied world cuisine, honed my craft in the Asian cuisine department. But that was a while ago. So, this is either going to be incredibly chill, or this will be the worst thing I have ever done.”
One of the guests requests an espresso martini, but when Diana delivers it, he says, “Excuse me, this is bad luck. It’s missing one bean.”
There are only two coffee beans floating in his drink. “I love health and wealth, but I need the happiness.” I did not know that, and neither did Diana.
But rather than apologizing and bringing him one more bean, she snaps, “I’m giving you decaf from now on.” Huh? That’s NOT how to treat a guest.
“Yeah, she hates you, bro,” one of his friends laughs.
“Diana, even if they’re an assh*le,” Daisy tells her, “Try not to let it get to you.”
Diana insists she was only joking and she doesn’t care, Daisy reminds her that “ they care.”
When Danni makes him a second one with three beans in it, he says, “That’s what I’m talking about! Three-bean classic. Cheers to health, wealth, and happiness.” He gives Danni a hug and says she’s the best. Diana looks less than pleased.
“It’s annoying to my ego ,” Diana interviews. “Go f*ck yourself.”
Emma’s anxiety gets the best of her
Emma’s got the anchor watch. Sadly, rather than finishing her work and monitoring the anchor, Emma falls asleep in the cockpit. When she wakes up, she has to scramble to finish all the cleaning she was supposed to be doing overnight.
“I definitely noticed a lapse in where I thought the boat would be in the morning,” Keith says. “At this point, the boat should be 100% dry.” He tells Gary that the deck was soaked when he got up.
“So what happened with rinsing the boat last night?” Gary asks Emma.
“I rinsed the boat last night,” she says. She doesn’t tell him she fell asleep and didn’t rinse it until 6:00 am.
At dinner, Emma and Daisy take a smoke break away from the rest of the crew. Emma tells Daisy that she feels like she’s screwing up and having anxiety about not doing a good job.
Daisy advises her not to take Gary’s criticism to heart. “The more you let it eat at you,” Daisy tells her, “the more you’re going to ruin your own experience.” Daisy’s had her own issues with Gary .
Emma’s anxiety is making her feel sick and shaky. She goes outside to get some air, and Daisy tells her she needs to drink some water “even though it tastes gross.”
“Emma’s definitely struggling,” Daisy says. She’s really hard on herself and in her own head. Emma decides to go back to the boat and get some rest. Daisy explains to the rest of the crew that she thinks Emma has heat exhaustion.
Danni finally gets the attention she’s been looking for
Keith thinks Danni’s being “cold” to him tonight, so he says, “Let’s get a drink and go chat.”
Danni feels like Keith decides when they can have fun. “I’m constantly flirting,” she says, but he refused to banter when they were on the cliff together. But he explains that he was trying to be professional in front of the guests. He’s not wrong.
“We’re here to do a job,” he says.
But when they go to the dance club, Danni switches her attention to Gary, which annoys Keith. Daisy consoles him in the cab on the way back to the boat. “Don’t ever be apologetic for being sensitive,” she tells him.
“Keith is such a nice person,” Daisy interviews. “He’s good-looking; he’s hardworking; he’s funny; he’s charming. I think he’ll be a great partner. That’s really unfair, but nice guys finish last.”
Back at the boat, Gary and Danni are in the hot tub together. She’s loving that he’s finally giving her the attention she craves. But will Gary and Danni’s hookup just cause more drama between her and Daisy ?
They end the evening by jumping off the boat into the water and making out. “Whoops,” she says.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
