The devices is equipped with a slot for a MicroSD card which can be used to configure its settings (loading a text file with the settings), updates for the Device firmware.   • Page 18 the Device must be installed in the unused connector of Device. This plug connects the two CAN interfaces (CAN1 and CAN2, see Appendix E). The engine controller sends data on the CAN1 interface and monitors the echo on CAN2. CAN1 and CAN2 are joined in EVC tachometer. If the tachometer is not installed and the plug is not set, the engine controller will see no echo at CAN2 and will stop data transmission.

Engines in the BRP CAN and SmartCraft networks have no J1939 addresses, but this setting is used to identify port and starboard engines.
  • Page 27 Factory settings (from x=0 to 7): 0, 1, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF, OFF Batteries on the NMEA 2000 network have identifiers analogous to engines. The value, though, is not related to the location or purpose of the battery. For example, on a sailing yacht with a single engine, data on the service battery will be transferred by a special sensor on the NMEA 2000 network.

For example, if an auxiliary sensor is installed and signals that there is water in the fuel, set the value of the mask in 000100 (hexadecimal number, bit 9 is set) in accordance with the table in Appendix B.

INTAKE_MANIFOLD_TEMP=x x – OFF (default value) or a number from 1 to 252 NMEA 2000 has no data type for transmitting intake manifold temperature (supported in Volvo Penta, J1939, SmartCraft and BRP Rotax engines). Moreover, many chart plotters have gauges for a limited set of data types.
  • Page 35 26. EDC2=x x – OFF (default value) or ON Turn on or off experimental support of EDC II. Volvo Penta engines with EDC II use a J1939 interface for engine synchronization only. This means that the port engine sends actual revolutions, and the starboard engine listens and synchronizes revolutions.
  • Page 36 Factory setting: OFF Different devices in engine and NMEA 2000 networks can have matching addresses. And forwarding of such messages can cause conflicts. To avoid conflicts, YDEG can use its own, original address or a specified address as the sender address in the forwarded messages. This is managed by the PASS_ADDR setting.

TRIM_ZERO=x x – calibration value of 0% tilt/trim position, 0..65534 Factory setting: 28708 The Gateway process three different messages with tilt/trim data depending on the current settings. Switching on/off SMARTCRAFT or MEFI4B setting (V.35-36) resets the value to default for SmartCraft, MEFI or Volvo Penta EVC systems.
  • Page 40 If the Gateway actually has tilt/trim data, the value of TRIM_ZERO setting (V.37) will be updated and you will see 3 green confirmation flashes. Then lift the engine to highest position and load the file with the line: CALIBRATE_TRIM=100 The Gateway will calculate trim step corresponding to 1% and update the TRIM_STEP value (V.38). Review V.37-38 settings in the YDEGSAVE.TXT and modify values if required.
  • Page 41 For temperature data types, we recommend using Exhaust Gas Sensor YDGS-01. This measures temperatures up to 800 Celsius. The data instance can be configured with a YD:DAT command. For pressure data types, we recommend Tank Adapter YDTA-01. This product is an NMEA 2000 adapter for resistive and voltage sensors, and can work in parallel with analog and digital gauges.

Gateway for Volvo Penta, BRP Rotax and J1939 engines to NMEA 2000 marine electronics networks. It will provides you with engine revolutions, motor hours, coolant temperature, battery voltage, warning and alarms, fuel rate and other data on the screen of your chart plotter. The Engine Gateway is compatible with BRP Rotax, J1939 engines (Caterpillar, etc.) and most Volvo Penta engines manufactured since 2004, and even with some engines manufactured before 2000. Compatible Volvo Penta engines: - with all versions of EVC-B, EVC-C, EVC-D, EVC-E (most modern engines manufactured since 2006); - D1 and D2 series with MDI (Mechanical Diesel Interface), for example D2-40F; - EDC III and EDC IV diesel engines (EMS 2.0, EMS 2.2); - with EVC-A MC (see customer's video with D3-160A-A) and EVC-A EC (also known as EVCmc and EVCec); - EFI engines with MEFI4B ECU or later (gasoline, 2004-2005), with or without an EVC system installed; - all EGC engines (gasoline, 2005 and Later), with or without an EVC system installed. On most vessels with Volvo Penta engines, all that you need is to plug the device into an empty socket of the NMEA 2000 network backbone and connect the engine cable to a Multilink hub or, using the built-in Y-connector on the engine cable of Gateway, to connect it in series with any of the EVC tachometers. For some engines (please see section IV of manual for details) an adaptor cable is required, and we offer different adaptor cables for a reasonable price (available in the accessories section of the ordering page). Factory settings are suitable for most of vessels with one or two engines. In case of two or more engines, one Gateway is enough if they are joined to a single network. The Gateway is equipped with a MicroSD card slot intended for firmware updates.

Nyumba is the first hybrid sailboat in the Southern Wind fleet.

The fourth unit of the successful SW96 series, she was conceived for a young, hands-on owner and a passionate sailor on his third sailing yacht. He approached SWS looking for a high-performance, efficient cruising yacht to sail shorthanded around the world. An added plus would be a yacht that could successfully compete in top superyacht regattas.

After initially considering a custom construction, the client opted for a 96-foot yacht with Southern Wind’s “ smart custom ” offering, allowing him to reap the benefits of both the yard and the design team’s experience and reliability. He encouraged the shipyard to develop a version of a SW96 optimised to meet his request for a sexy, comfortable, reliable, and above all, sustainable yacht.

SW96#04 Nyumba is therefore the first electric-hybrid sailboat in the Southern Wind fleet. Her power and propulsion system was developed in collaboration with BAE Systems, a multinational company that designs and manufactures technology leading solutions. Their patented HybridGen® system is engineered to be compliant with the world’s most stringent environmental rules, with zero emissions capability and a HydroGeneration mode to recharge the Lithium-ion energy storage when under sail. The BAE Systems next-generation hardware provides the highest system efficiency, ensuring the vessel owner enjoys noise free zero emissions for longer.

With hull lines penned by Farr Yacht Design, this high-performance superyacht and hybrid sailboat will have a full carbon hull and prepreg side and foredeck. Massimo Gino of Nauta Design, responsible for the yacht’s exterior and interior design, explains: “Nyumba deck design is the evolution of the successful GT deck concept, already applied on the newly launched SW105 GT Taniwha with several details that have been designed specifically to meet the owner’s request. Clear, uncluttered deck equipment positioning allows for easy circulation on board and the mainsail track and steering positions are completely new. Crew members on Mike Lynch’s yacht have spoken of the moments when a storm sank the vessel off Sicily and their efforts to help save passengers, after a disaster that killed the British tech tycoon and six other people.

Matthew Griffiths, who was on watch duty on the night of the disaster two weeks ago, told investigators that the crew members did everything they could to save those on board the Bayesian , according to comments reported by Italian news agency Ansa on Saturday.

Griffiths, the boat’s captain James Cutfield, and ship engineer Tim Parker Eaton have been placed under investigation by the Italian authorities for potential manslaughter and shipwreck . Being investigated does not imply guilt and does not mean formal charges will follow.

“I woke up the captain when the wind was at 20 knots (23 mph). He gave orders to wake everyone else,” Ansa quoted Griffiths as saying.

“The ship tilted and we were thrown into the water. Then we managed to get back up and tried to rescue those we could,” he added, describing the events of the early hours of Aug. 19, when the Bayesian had been anchored off the Sicilian port of Porticello .

“We were walking on the walls (of the boat). We saved who we could, Cutfield also saved the little girl and her mother,” he said, referring to passenger Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter. In all there were 15 survivors of the wreck.

Cutfield exercised his right to remain silent when questioned by prosecutors on Tuesday, his lawyers said, saying he was “worn out” and that they needed more time to build a defense case.

Before this, Cutfield gave a similar description to Griffiths’ to investigators, according to comments reported on Sunday by Italian daily Il Corriere della Sera.

Cutfield said the boat tilted by 45 degrees and stayed in that position for some time, then it suddenly fell completely to the right, the newspaper reported.

Parker Eaton had not previously commented on the investigation. On Sunday, Il Corriere quoted him as saying that all doors and hatches were closed when the storm hit the boat, except one giving access to the engine room.

That door was located on the side opposite to the tilting and so could not be a factor causing the sinking, he said.

Prosecutor Raffaele Cammarano said last week that the vessel was most likely hit by a “downburst,” a very strong downward wind.

The sinking has puzzled naval marine experts, who said a vessel like the Bayesian, built by Italian high-end yacht manufacturer Perini, should have withstood the storm and, in any case, should not have sunk as quickly as it did.

Prosecutors in the town of Termini Imerese, near Palermo , have said their investigation will take time, with the wreck yet to be salvaged from the sea.

The Circuit Control contains four latching (bi-stable) relays, which can be managed from connected control buttons with LED indicators or over NMEA 2000 with standard messages.

The Circuit Control is the core component of our digital switching system. In addition to connected buttons, loads can be managed from   modern chart plotters , with " virtual buttons " on the   Web Gauges   of our   Wi-Fi Gateway , or   automatically from our sensors . To set up additional control posts with duplicate physical buttons and indication, use   Switch Control YDSC-04 .

Device terminals are shown   in Appendix C. Electrical characteristics of the Circuit Control:

  • four channels: two with normally open contacts (ON-OFF) and two with switching contacts;
  • latching (bi-stable) relays consume electricity only during the process of switching and stay in their last state after the device is powered off;
  • maximum constant load current per channel is 10A, peak is 20A (4 seconds, duty cycle 10%);
  • capable of switching the direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) loads up to 400 V;
  • high voltage isolation with a load, 5000 V RMS ;
  • average device consumption is only 30 mA.

 The Circuit Control unit can work in parallel with other units and can be managed from multiple   Switch Control   units with a matched bank number (252 unique bank numbers are allowed in NMEA 2000). Multiple independent digital switching systems (with different bank numbers) can co-exists in a single NMEA 2000 network.

You can manage loads connected to the Circuit Control ( firmware 1.01 or later is required ) from most of modern   chart plotters with CZone support . This includes Garmin, Lowrance,   Simrad, B&G,   Furuno chart plotters and recent models from   Raymarine (Axiom, eS and gS series) .   Click here to configure your MFD . The Circuit Control and Switch Control are designed to be compatible with   Oceanic Systems , Offshore Systems, Chetco Digital,   Maretron   (see p.27 in   the Manual ) and Carling Tech displays and relay modules, and with other NMEA 2000 digital switching devices managed with standard NMEA 2000 PGN 127501 "Binary Status Report" and PGN 127502 "Binary Switch Control".

Switch Control YDSC-04

The Switch Control allows viewing of the state and the management of four channels of an NMEA 2000 switch bank from the connected buttons with LED indicators.

It is designed to work in tandem with Circuit Control YDCC-04 (contains four latching relays) or Alarm Button YDAB-01 and is compatible with other NMEA 2000 digital switching devices managed by standard NMEA 2000 PGNs 127501 and 127502.
