It's name is I Dynasty and it is a 101-metre superyacht that has just anchored at the Port of Malaga and will remain there for the whole winter.

It's the first luxury vessel scheduled to spend the cooler months in the Marqués de Guadiaro basin, the reformed area in the city port for luxury craft and megayachts. The marina was designed and built several years ago to receive large vessels and provide them with the necessary services during the low season, such as high-power electrical connections.

The I Dynasty, with a crew of 30, is scheduled to remain in Malaga throughout the autumn and winter, until the spring of 2024, according to port sources.

Business opportunities

The megayacht will undergo maintenance throughout the winter, for which the concessionaire of the marina, IGY Málaga Marina, is looking for various suppliers in the province which specialise in various technical tasks.

Maintenance required may include sanding, hull painting, welding, electrical, mechanics, carpentry and plumbing. IGY Málaga Marina is creating a database of interested companies, for which they ask anyone interested to contact them directly.

The I Dynasty is a modern megayacht built in 2015 on behalf of Alijan Ibragimov, a billionaire from Kazakhstan. He is the co-founder of the multinational Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) and is involved in diversified natural resources such as mining, processing, energy and logistics. Its owner died in February 2021, reportedly due to Covid-19.

The vessel was built at the Kusch Yachts shipyard in Germany, with interior design by Massari Design. It can accommodate 22 guests in 11 luxury cabins; and 30 crew in another 15 cabins. Among its features, it has a 30-square-metre indoor swimming pool, which also serves as a dock for dinghies and pleasure boats.

The ship is powered by a Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion system, with a top speed of 17 knots, and a cruising speed of 14 knots. It has a range of 6,500 nautical miles (about 12,000 kilometres), making it particularly suitable for journeys between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. It is valued at around 200 million dollars, with maintenance costs estimated at 15 to 20 million dollars a year.

A Closer Look at Benetti Superyacht I Dynasty

Stunningly beautiful is the only way to describe I Dynasty, the Benetti superyacht which recently went up for sale. Though the yacht was originally built in 2008, its stylish interior is timeless. No expense was spared when the yacht was originally designed, and when it was completely refurbished in 2014, the same was true. She is currently in immaculate condition, as would be expected from a yacht that has only been used privately by a family since she was first delivered. She has approximately 3,500 main engine hours, and a lease on a 75-meter berth located in the Malta Grand Harbour Marina which is offered under separate negotiations.

I Dynasty features exterior design and naval architecture by Italian Stefano Natucci, who has penned many sleek and successful designs for Benetti. Natucci’s wonderful design includes a forward, split level pool area which has an oversized, oval Jacuzzi and is semi-enclosed for privacy; an air-conditioned gym and sauna which are both enclosed with glass, and a 200 square meter sun deck for the enjoyment of guests.

The superyacht’s interior is the creative work of Studio Massari, and it is the philosophy of this design studio which explains the luxurious attitude and appeal. Studio Massari seeks to realize the dreams of each client, and this is what the studio believes makes each project completed unique. It is their work to provide advice which allows emotions to be passionately demonstrated in design which is not only sensible, functional and exacting but also extremely satisfying. Luigi Massari is noted as the Founding Father of the studio, and a team of eight designers create the lavish, bespoke superyacht interiors. Studio Massari was one of almost twenty international studios which were asked to explore ideas and designs for future superyacht projects for Benetti Yachts. Their designs secured a spot with the long established Benetti firm.

Studio Massari’s interiors for I Dynasty include beautiful finishes from the bridge to the aft. The bridge console is constructed of gleaming polished wood, with the lovely woodgrain visible. The captain’s chair easily oversees operations as the area is surrounded entirely by an array of panoramic windows over the arched controls panels.

The main lobby is the location of a round elevator which is encircled by a glass atrium shaft, which whisks guests from lower to upper decks. This is where guests have their first glimpse of the finely crafted woodwork evident throughout the yacht. Mahogany paneling, zebrawood, walnut, teach, rosewood and mahogany are implemented in classic art deco style, and there are numerous stained glass windows, panels and features which bring color and light to the living areas.

The master suite and guest cabins are appointed with exotic fabrics, glossy paneling, and signature wood joinery which is definitively Benetti. Warm gold metallic trims and fixtures such as the hammered golden sink basin in the master suite bathroom speak to the opulence of the interiors.

The formal dining room features one of a kind parquet wood flooring and luxurious upholstered chairs. The bedrooms are filled with beautiful linens, fine furnishings and artwork. The overall effect is elegant and sophisticated.

To the extent that the interior is elegant, the exterior living and activity areas are equally sleek and modern, with teak decking, comfortable contemporary chaise lounges, and spacious areas to gather for informal meals, conversation and sunbathing. Nothing has been spared in terms of equipment for active water sports, either.

A few highlights of the yacht’s Equipment List:

Toys & Tenders • 1 inflatable swimming pool • 1 Bauer Jr. II diving compressor • 2 Laser II competition rigged sailing dinghies • 1 seven-meter Novurania launch • 1 7.6 meter Mastercraft X • 2 three seat SeaDoos • 2 two seat SeaDoos

Benetti has been building sea going vessels since 1873. The company was founded when Lorenzo Benetti purchased the Darsena Luca shipyard to found his own firm. At first, the company built fishing boats and commercial vessels such as trading ships plying the Mediterranean. When he died, his sons took over the yard, and began to build a few private yachts and wooden construction ships for sailing the ocean. The grandsons carried on the work of their fathers and grandfather.

The shipyard built a small number of military vessels throughout World War II, but by 1954, the company divided its work between the family to split production between the original commercial vessels and yachts. In 1984, the company was purchased by the owner of Azimut Yachts, Paolo Vitelli, who named it the Benetti Shipyard. Since that time, several other shipyards were purchased in order to diversify and increase production.

Benetti has won the “Shipyard Number 1” award presented by Showboats International magazine for six consecutive times. No other ship yard has this distinction. The firm has maintained a shipyard in Viareggio since its founding. In 2013, Benetti celebrated 140 years in business, with 300 boats built and in progress.

As one of the oldest luxury motoryacht builders in the world, the company is renowned for its exceptional quality and artistry. The I Dynasty is a superb example of the merging of Italian fashion, design, art and craftsmanship which has distinguished Benetti as a world leader in the building of custom private yachts.

Motor Yacht

In 2008, the 59.30 metre superyacht I Dynasty emerged from the Benetti shipyard in Italy. Her immaculate styling by designer Stefano Natucci works seamlessly with the construction quality of Benetti and interior of Studio Massari to create a yacht with true Italian pedigree.

I Dynasty has travelled the Mediterranean exclusively with her original family, and has been kept to the highest standard since. Her Made in Italy style is accentuated by masterclass design features which takes the lifestyle experience on board to a new level.

Her ornate elevator, sliding smoothly through the glass atrium, provides access to all decks and stretches from the lower guest cabins and plateaus at the private gym on the sundeck.

From the top down, the gym allows those on board the choice of exercising in private with air conditioning or opening up the doors to feel the sea breeze; all with an unbeatable view of the ocean.

An authentic Scandinavian sauna transforms a gym into a full wellness centre, as guests can go from the heat to the plunge pool Jacuzzi before retiring to the sunbathing area.

As the evening rolls in, guests can arrive via helicopter or onboard tender to dine under the stars on the sundeck, surrounded by a port on the upper deck aft or inside the luxurious dining suite for privacy. Dining itself is a joy thanks to the fully equipped galley, all at the hands of an onboard expert in culinary craft.

The full-beam Master Stateroom on the main deck forward, is something to behold. While a large dressing room, study and all round panoramic views are as standard, the unique touch of installing a Jacuzzi in her bathroom, and a Turkish steam room in his, immediately elevates this yacht in terms of attention to detail.

The VIP cabin also offers panoramic views on the upper deck, and four double guest cabins on the lower deck provide all the space possible for guests to enjoy their time on board in both style and comfort.

Positive Customer Review: "One of the most memorable parts for me was the launch. I went with my wife, and Benetti had a Roman Catholic priest bless the yacht. It was very beautiful with all the Italian music and then the British national anthem, and it was all very unexpected. I thought I was just going to be putting the boat in the water, but in fact it turned into a very emotional day!" - Owner of a Benetti called motor yacht 11:11

Turquoise: the makings of a Turkish superyacht dynasty

Newly launched from Proteksan Turquoise , Turquoise has a certain degree of deja vu about her. Seventeen years ago, the Gunay Construction Company, a virtually unknown shipyard in Turkey owned by businessman Mehmet Karabeyoglu, launched its first yacht – an attractive 50 metre called Turquoise . Not only was this first Turquoise (renamed La Naturalle Dee) a great success, cruising the world’s oceans with her American owner, but she also gained an enviable reputation as a yacht for charter .

This success was reflected in the fortunes of yard, which first changed its name to Turquoise Yacht Construction, and in 1997 teamed up with Proteksan Yachts , another progressive Turkish yard, to form Proteksan Turquoise. This new partnership went on to launch yacht after yacht, many of them based on Turquoise’s original design. The company eventually moved to its own modern, purpose-built shipyard in Pendik on the Asian shore of Istanbul, from where the new Turquoise was launched earlier this year.

Like its predecessor, the new 55.4 metre Turquoise was designed by to meet the owner’s need for a combination of worldwide cruising and chartering, as well as satisfying his passion for scuba diving. Turquoise, which is availble for charter,  boasts a highly efficient hull form and a layout that drew heavily on her predecessor, but is by no means identical. Major among the changes was the repositioning of the tenders that were formerly stowed on the main deck aft to two large tender garages on either side of the foredeck, and the freeing up of lazarette space to provide storage room for scuba and fitness gear, as well as an inflatable decompression chamber.

Turquoise has an elegant, masculine look created by her high bow and an almost flat foredeck that runs aft to the vertical windows of the bridge.

The sun deck, which optionally can be shaded by awnings, offers a huge, sinuously curving area paved with sun pads and two facing L-shaped settees under the shade of the radar arch. The bridge and main aft decks provide shade along with some elegant open-air lounging, dining and entertaining spaces. Stairways from the main deck aft give easy access to the bathing platform.

The yacht’s interior ideally serves the owner’s needs as a place to relax and be at ease. The design was created by Julia Busby of HOK Interiors, who has decorated three residences for the owner. She teamed up with Murat Suntay of Suntay Design in Istanbul who has extensive experience with the detailed engineering of yacht interiors. The result combines understated elegance with high practicality and functionality, as well as superlative comfort.

Against a background of figured makoré and sapele woods, contrasted with bright lacquers, pale wool carpets, luxury leathers and a selection of locally sourced marbles, the interior is furnished with cabinetry by local specialist manufacturer Berline. Loose furniture was sourced from quality design houses, while the carefully selected artworks add a well-travelled, eclectic feel. The contemporary artwork ranges from master sculptures by Hepworth and Arp, to glass pieces by Chihuly and Boyadjiev and striking works from up-and-coming artists.

The interior layout, as with all aspects of the yacht, was created around the earlier, well-proven, concept. Four sizeable guest cabins, set amidships on the lower deck, are accessed by a ‘floating staircase’ whose leather-covered frosted treads are cleverly lit from within. The combined saloon and dining saloon on the main deck is slightly more formal than the upper deck saloon, which is particularly spacious, thanks to the lack of side decks at this level. The presence of a grand piano, games table, elegant plank floor and television mark this area out as a family living room and the likely hub of any cruise, private or charter.

The owner’s suite is forward on the main deck and is tailored to the family’s needs with a large en suite bedroom for the owner’s son in addition to a full-beam master suite and a huge full-beam bathroom forward. The captain’s cabin is aft of the bridge, while the crew quarters are located forward of the guest area on the lower deck.

Because of the slender hull shape responsible for the yacht’s speed and efficiency, the bilges are necessarily shallow, which means that the limited space on the tank deck is accessible only by a hatch. Nevertheless, this deck still provides a surprisingly large area for cold stores, a wine cellar and dry goods storage, which gives Turquoise enviable self-sufficiency for the long-duration cruises anticipated by her owner.

Yachts that plan to cruise in out-of-the-way places need to be reliable, and with this in mind, all machinery and technical areas aboard Turquoise were developed with the guiding principle that they should use well-tested machinery and favour manual operation over complex automated systems. However, charting is fully electronic ECDIS that is integrated with the yacht’s radars, while the boat’s tenders and personal watercraft are fitted with electronic tracking devices that plot their position on the chart display.

The engine room is neatly and spaciously laid out, its wiring and pipework all marked up, while the yacht’s widespread use of highly efficient LED lighting with its low power consumption and minimal heat output reduces its power requirement to an economical 300 kilowatts.

The launch of Turquoise , together with a clutch of other distinguished superyachts, substantiates Proteksan’s leading position in Turkey. This owner certainly believes that the deja vu experience of the first Turquoise will continue, and that, at two-thirds of the price of a Northern European yacht, she represents good value for money.
