Did Mark Zuckerberg Buy a $150 Million Yacht?

About this rating

An English-language Turkish newspaper published — then quickly scrubbed — a 18 January 2018 story reporting that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had made an extravagant purchase in Monaco.

According to the report, which ran in the Hurriyet Daily News, Zuckerberg secretly bought the "super yacht," Ulysses , from a reclusive New Zealand businessman, Graeme Hart, for $150 million in October 2017.

Though the sale itself was first reported by news outlets, the buyer was not announced. However, shortly after the story was published it was quickly debunked by a spokesperson for Zuckerberg:

The reports related to Mark purchasing a yacht are completely inaccurate as he did not purchase a yacht.

The spokesperson later added:

Mark did not buy it, does not own a yacht and was not involved in the sale.

But instead of updating or correcting its original reporting, the Hurriyet Daily News instead deleted it. However, some web sites continue to feature posts stating that the sale went through.

We contacted both Facebook and the Daily News seeking comment.

See Mark Zuckerberg’s glossy new $300M, 287-foot superyacht ‘Launchpad’

All aboard S.S. Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly gifted himself a $300 million megayacht, dubbed “Launchpad,” ahead of his 40th birthday.

The staggering 387-foot-long vessel was seen floating at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after arriving at its berth earlier this week, The Sun reported Thursday.

The multi-layered luxury ship’s sleek exterior was designed by Espen Øino International and boasts a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, according to SuperYacht Times.

Reportedly ranking as the 45th largest yacht in the world, the interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing and reportedly executed by Zuretti Interior Design company, a France-based company specializing in unique and custom yacht design.

The breathtakingly beautiful floater stands out with a navy blue theme matching an American flag perched proudly on its wood-paneled stern.

There are several outdoor areas where the social media maven will be able to relax with his family and the indoor levels feature glass paneling allowing for tons of natural light.

There also appears to be a helipad perfect for whenever the Facebook co-founder wants to travel to his vessel by air.

The Feadship-built yacht, built in 2022, can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard, requires a crew of 48, and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com .

Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

The Truth About Ulysses Yacht and Who Owns It

Ian Fortey

Many millionaires and billionaires like to straddle the fence between being in the public eye but also being very secretive about their public lives and Mark Zuckerberg is no different. In 2017 there were numerous articles published about him purchasing a yacht called Ulysses that were soon followed by denials that he had purchased the yacht. So did he purchase the yacht? And if not, who does own the Ulysses? Let’s take a look!

History of the Yacht Ulysses

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

The yacht Ulysses was built by Kleven Shipyard out of Norway in 2015 and was the largest expedition yacht they’d ever built. It was launched in 2016. It was first owned by New Zealand billionaire Graeme Hart and then rumor has it that Zuckerberg purchased it in September 2017. However, a spokesman for Zuckerberg posted on Facebook shortly thereafter saying Zuckerberg didn’t buy Ulysses and didn’t own any yacht at all.

The story originally came from a Turkish newspaper and, since its publication in September 2017, has spread to numerous other websites that essentially rehash the original details about the explorer yacht in general with Mark Zuckerberg’s name attached.

However, other sources indicate that the yacht was indeed sold in 2017 but not to Zuckerberg. Instead, the buyer was listed as Russian billionaire Yuri Milner. After purchasing the yacht he renamed it Andromeda.

Milner has also denied ownership but the difference between his claims and those of Zuckerberg is that Milner has reportedly been seen on the yacht and the address registered for the company that owns the yacht is the same address as one of Milner’s companies. So it seems likely that Milner is the owner, and certainly much more likely than Zuckerberg.

So Who Is the Ulysses Yacht Owner?

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

Based on that, it seems very likely that this is not Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht, but Yuri Milner’s. That said, there are so many results that come up when you Google this yacht or Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht, it’s good to have something to clarify the issue. The idea of billionaire yachts has been big news for some time with stories about the yachts belonging to people like Jeff Bezos , Bill Gates and even Michael Jordan making headlines.

And with that, we can still dive into what we know about the yacht aside from who owns it.

Features of the Andromeda

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

Like any superyacht, there are some remarkable features onboard Ulysses/Andromeda that make it a real standout. Part of the confusion over getting to the bottom of this comes from the name change from Ulysses to Andromeda. There are actually several yachts bearing these names and Graeme Hart has named at least 3 different yachts Ulysses over the years as well. That aside, let’s take a tour of what we know about the yacht Andromeda/Ulysses features, even if it’s hard to pinpoint who is enjoying all these amenities.

There’s a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. The deck is teak. Because it’s a yacht designed for exploration it’s a lot more rugged and durable than the average pleasure boat. It’s able to handle extreme weather and is ice-classed to allow for arctic travel.

Length and Dimensions of the Andromeda

To start with some technical specs, let’s look at the yacht by the numbers.

  • 107.4 meters in length or 352’4”
  • 18 meter beam or 59’1”
  • 5.01 meter draft or 16’5”
  • 5,937 gross tonnage
  • Crew capacity of 43
  • Passenger capacity of 30

Interior of the Andromeda

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

To start with, the most noticeable features across the 6 decks of the Andromeda is both a helipad and a helicopter hangar for when you need to get back to shore double quick. There’s a large swimming pool on board for those not into salt water and for those who are, a tender garage that is loaded with all kinds of water toys. This includes a nearly 70 foot tender and also a pair of custom cranes to help launch and store it on board. This tender is actually a two-deck vessel in its own right so, essentially, the Andromeda has its own small yacht.

There are surf boards, seabobs, flyboards and more available and that’s just for the water. If you want to go to shore the garage also holds motorcycles and even SUVs for travel on land.

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

You can find a jacuzzi tub on deck as well, and tons of sun pads for lounging.

The interior was designed by British design house H2 Yacht Design. The look is said to be clean and modern but also luxurious. Rumor has it that the space inside cost about €20,000 per square meter. There is a cinema located on board with a Sony 300ES projector. The system comes with full surround sound and 3D projection.

Elsewhere there’s a luxurious full dining room, a wine cellar, a spacious lounge area for socializing, pool and parties. Guests can relax with a plunge pool, sauna, steam room, massage room and gym located to the aft of the main deck.

One deck of the yacht is reserved as a private owner’s deck and features not just luxury quarters but also a full-width lounge and a private balcony.

Quarters on the Andromeda

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

There is room for 30 passengers on board and this is said to be split among 15 guest rooms. The crew is also purported to have 15 rooms to split though obviously less spaciously if it can handle 43.

Guest cabins have floor to ceiling windows allowing for incredible ocean views. The master cabin, with its full beam width, has a panoramic view to the aft of the boat.

How Fast is the Andromeda?

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

Powered by a total of 6 Caterpillar DE 3516 engines, the Andromeda packs a punch. She has a total listed power of 6660 kw which works out to close to 10,000 horsepower. Despite that, she’s certainly not a speed demon. The top speed has been recorded as 17 knots. Her cruising speed is 15 knots. Her range is 8,500 nautical miles.

How Much Did the Andromeda Cost?

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

This one is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Initial stories about Zuckerberg buying the motor yacht quoted the price as $150 million sometimes and $195 million other times. But how reliable can either of those be if they didn’t even get the buyer right? Others stated the yacht was worth $195 million but Zuckerberg purchased it for $150 million.

In 2022, Forbes reported on the yacht in the Caymans and at that time they said the yacht was valued at $129 million. So, with some depreciation, the $150 million figure could have been correct? Or it could have just been speculation much the same as the idea that Zuckerberg bought it. But, in any event, the $129 million valuation seems to be as accurate a number as we can currently get.

To further confuse you, more recent articles about the Andromeda, which still acknowledge it as being formerly owned by Graeme Hart and having all the same features, list it as being a $250 million vessel.

The annual cost of keeping the yacht running has been estimated at anywhere from $15 million to $25 million.

Can You Charter the Andromeda?

ulysses yacht zuckerberg

The Andromeda is currently anchored in the Seychelles but it’s not available for charter and Milner, or whoever may own the yacht, is not very open about letting others on board as you can imagine with all this confusion and secrecy.

The Bottom Line

The yacht once known as Ulysses is now called Andromeda. It is one of the largest and most impressive luxury yachts in the water. Though there is a persistent rumor that it was purchased by Mark Zuckerberg in 2017 it does not seem to be true and, in fact, Zuckerberg doesn’t seem to own a yacht at all. Instead, the vessel seems to have been purchased by Russian-Israeli tech billionaire Yuri Milner though he too has denied ownership. That said, some evidence does suggest it really is his.

The yacht, which cost anywhere from $150 million to $250 million features a helipad, luxury accommodations, room for 30 guests and a number of toys for those on board to use. It is not available for charter.

Highly secretive 103m superyacht Feadship 1011 launched

Feadship's highly secretive 103m superyacht Ulysses delivered

The highly secretive 103-metre Feadship superyacht Ulysses has now been delivered to her owner following sea trials in November. Formerly known only as Feadship 1011, she is owned by Graeme Hart, New Zealand's wealthiest man.

Ulysses had been kept tightly under wraps until she was spotted on transport from Feadship's Makkum site to its Amsterdam facility, marking the first time the yacht's distinctive clean lines and squared-off deck design had been seen since she hit the water in October 2023.

Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design is behind the exterior, and Feadship has said that the yacht's modern profile uses 1,100 square metres of exterior glass that culminates in twenty exterior sliding doors, twelve glass windbreaks and six-metre panels of glass along the main deck guest cabins.

Ulysses follows in the footsteps of famous yachts under the same name, including two Kleven -built explorers and the 74-metre CRN yacht Odyssey (now known as Andrea ).

The yard has said it was challenged to maintain many of the same elements as the owner's previous yacht of 6,000 GT, but condensed into a package of around half the size. Feadship also revealed that a two-tier engine room on a yacht of this size "is virtually obligatory", but the yard was able to maintain the engine room to just one deck to devote more space to guest areas.

Key features of the new build include a 15-metre-long tender garage, representing the largest shell door that Feadship has ever built. Elsewhere, the yacht is also home to four exterior hot tubs, a swimming pool that covers the entire height of the main deck and a helicopter hangar concealed in the foredeck. On the interior, the yacht has a glass staircase and elevator in the main atrium.

The yacht is an all-Dutch build, with naval architecture by Azure Yacht Design . The project is the fourth largest Feadship to be built to date, following the 118.2-metre Feadship 821 and Feadship 1010 , both currently in build at the shipyard, and the 110-metre Anna .

Ulysses is the 10th collaboration between Feadship and Sinot after teaming up on vessels such as Lonian and Aquarius .

“As a repeat client and Feadship fan who has built his own yachts in the past, the client had a very clear idea of what we are capable of and pushed the boundaries in terms of design and engineering,” said Feadship director and CEO, Henk de Vries. “He wanted to be part of the team, which ordinarily is something we try to avoid, but he was fully prepared to collaborate and our working relationship ended up being both friendly and fun!”

Damen Yachting 's U-81 will serve as Ulysses ' support vessel.

Ulysses has been purchased by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg

The explorer superyacht Ulysses has been sold for an undisclosed sum and while rumours circulated that Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg was the new owner of the 107 metre luxury vessel, the buyer has not been confirmed.

Tech Crunch  has reported that a spokesperson for Zuckerberg has denied that the 33-year-old billionaire has purchased the superyacht.  “The reports related to Mark purchasing a yacht are completely inaccurate as he did not purchase a yacht.”, the spokesperson said.

Previous owner and New Zealand businessman Graeme Hart commissioned the superyacht from the Kleven shipyard in Norway. Ulysses was the first private superyacht to be built by the Norwegian yard.

Burgess has confirmed it acted for both buyer and seller.

The Story of Mark Zuckerberg's Yacht

Introduction.

Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Facebook, is known for his love of technology and innovation. It's no surprise, then, that his yacht is one of the most technologically advanced in the world. Named "Ulysses," the 107-meter (350-foot) yacht was built by Kleven, a Norwegian shipyard.

The Building Process

The building of Ulysses was a collaboration between Zuckerberg and naval architect Espen Øino. The yacht was constructed in Norway and underwent sea trials in 2017. During the trials, the yacht reached a top speed of 17.8 knots, which is quite impressive for a yacht of its size.

Impressive Features

Ulysses is equipped with some of the most advanced technology available in the yachting industry. It has a range of 8,500 nautical miles, which means it can sail non-stop for up to 60 days. The yacht has a helipad, a large swimming pool, and a spacious gym. There's also a fully-equipped spa, a sauna, and a steam room.

The Interior

The interior of Ulysses was designed by H2 Yacht Design, a London-based design firm. The yacht can accommodate up to 30 guests in 15 cabins, and it has a crew of 42. The yacht's interior is luxurious, with a contemporary design that features a lot of natural light. The use of wood and stone throughout the yacht gives it a warm and inviting feel.

Mark Zuckerberg's Ulysses is one of the most impressive yachts in the world, not only for its size and range, but also for its advanced technology and luxurious features. With its spacious interior and impressive amenities, Ulysses is the perfect yacht for Zuckerberg to relax and unwind in after a busy day running one of the world's largest tech companies.

Did Mark Zuckerberg fly to Miami in his private jet to inspect his superyacht and support ship? The Meta CEO’s $300 million vessel is so big that it cannot fit next to other yachts, and it has been docked next to massive cargo ships in Fort Lauderdale for over two weeks now.

Mark Zuckerberg was earlier linked to superyacht Ulysses-

A billionaire without a luxury vessel is as good as a coat without fur. Zuckerberg has been linked to several superyachts in the past like the $150 million yacht named Ulysses. It belonged to Kiwi billionaire Graeme Hart who sold the ship in 2017. A spokesperson for Mark Zuckerberg denied reports in 2018, saying, “The reports related to Mark purchasing a yacht are completely inaccurate as he did not purchase a yacht.” As opposed to their prompt replies in the past, Zuckerberg and his team have chosen to stay mum on the matter. Perhaps, because there is nothing to clarify in a true story.

No, Mark Zuckerberg didn’t buy a giant yacht

Update: A spokesperson for Mark Zuckerberg offered a pretty flat-out denial of reports saying that the Facebook founder had purchased a $150 million ultra-luxury super yacht in Monaco this past September, “The reports related to Mark purchasing a yacht are completely inaccurate as he did not purchase a yacht.”

A report from the Hürriyet Daily News  had detailed that Zuckerberg had purchased the giant ship. Turns out, that report was inaccurate.

The vessel at hand, an expedition yacht named “Ulysses,” is 107 meters long, includes dozens of rooms and is primed for journeys as long as 8,500 nautical miles. The report had details that Zuckerberg bought the yacht “in secret” from another self-made billionaire, Graeme Hart. It was purchased late last year by an unknown buyer.

The superyacht world is speculating that Mark Zuckerberg just bought this 118-meter boat

  • The 118-meter superyacht Launchpad made her maiden voyage last week.
  • The yacht world is speculating that her owner is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
  • Here's what we know about the luxury vessel.

Insider Today

In the world of superyachts , privacy is the most valuable asset. It can be next to impossible to discern the details of a superyacht transaction — and that's particularly true if the vessel in question is worth nine figures.

Yet some in the boat blogging world are speculating that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the new owner of Launchpad, a megayacht currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after she made her maiden voyage from Gibraltar to St Maarten last week. Launchpad clocks in at 118 meters long, about nine meters shorter than Jeff Bezos' superyacht Koru .

The transaction could not be confirmed, with yacht world insiders declining to share what they know and representatives for Zuckerberg not responding to a request for comment from Business Insider. In the past, reports about Zuckerberg owning superyacht Ulysses have proven false.

"It is Feadship's standard policy to never divulge any information about our yachts with reference to ownership, costs, or delivery, etc," Feadship, the ship's builder, wrote to BI. "Whether it is an 18-meter Feadship from the 1960s or a 118-meter Feadship from the 21st century, we do not share private information."

But Zuckerberg's name has been connected to Launchpad for a few months now, beginning in December when reports swirled that he visited Feadship's shipyard in the Netherlands.

Related stories

Then, earlier in March, yachting bloggers like eSysman SuperYachts and Autoevolution started speculating that he officially snagged the boat, originally built for a sanctioned Russian businessman, at a $300 million price tag. (While that's a seemingly huge amount, it's still less than 0.2% of Zuckerberg's $177 billion net worth.)

Another clue that might point to US ownership is that the yacht bears the flag of the Marshall Islands, a US territory and commonplace for American buyers to register their ships, according to public marine tracking.

If Zuckerberg were to have bought Launchpad, he would join a cohort of superyacht-owning tech billionaires . Along with Bezos, the likes of Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison and Google cofounders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have purchased impressive boats with even more impressive amenities.

SuperYacht Times , an industry publication and intelligence platform, has some of the best images of the yacht. Photos show a swimming pool on her main deck and a large helipad.

While less is known of the interior, a vessel of her size can likely sleep dozens of guests and crew and may have amenities like an expansive gym where Zuckerberg could practice his jiu-jitsu or a spa with a massage area. We suspect there's also space for plenty of toys — which could include his viral hydrofoil foil .
