Sunreef Unveils New 77 Ultima Cat

Sunreef just unveiled its new 77 Ultima luxurious power catamaran with a sleek hull, sporty lines, a Jacuzzi on the flybridge, a spectacular master cabin that stretches between the two hulls, and an aft deck that folds out with a Jet Ski garage that doubles as a giant sun pad.

And it’s eco-friendly, with a solar skin to provide clean energy, custom batteries that Sunreef says are 30 percent lighter than others on the market, and hybrid electric/diesel power. The slim, aerodynamic hull is designed to reduce drag, and the new Sunreef can be fitted with computer-controlled hydrofoils to fly over the waves.

Sunreef’s Ultima line (there’s also a 44, 55, 66, and 88) are sleeker and thinner and more modern looking that the company’s other yachts. The 77’s reduced width (a beam of just 27 feet on its 77-foot length) and high decks create a horizontal surface between the two hulls, resulting in the super-sized master stateroom forward. The high bows, chines that run the entire length of the hulls, and a highly-raked windshield all create a modern profile.

“We now have the ultimate hull shape for all  those who are looking to enjoy quick getaways in speed, comfort and style,” said Francis Lapp, who founded Sunreef in Gdansk, Poland, in 2002. “To achieve this, we combined the best of the multihull and monohull design philosophy.”

Folding bulwarks create a sprawling aft deck and large outdoor lounging area. The foredeck is also a massive sunning space with two sun beds and extra space.

With an interior that can be customized, the Ultima 77 starts with five cabins below that can sleep ten guests. The master has a walkaround queen bed in the starboard side, a sitting area in the middle, and a large head on the port side. There are two guests cabins with en suite heads in each hull, plus crew cabins aft. A crew galley is on the port side.

Although details on the new hull shape and the hybrid propulsion system are scant, the fresh silhouette is evident in the photos shared by the yard. The Ultima yachts are characterized by sleek, aerodynamic lines and sharp, angled bows that will allow them to slice through the seas at speed. Sunreef says the cats will also offer “smart storage” for toys, diving equipment, and fishing gear.

The yard recently presented the first two models at the Miami and Fort Lauderdale boat shows. The 45 Ultima and 55 Ultima both sport vast aft decks with folding bulwark platforms, as well as generous semi-open dining areas. The 45 can also be equipped with Sunreef’s signature solar power system that generates clean, green energy while on the waves.

The best part is the yard says there are two larger models on the way. Of course, each design can be tailored to the seafarer. Working with the in-house team of designers, you can choose everything from the layout to the decor to the materials. All the upholstery and woodwork will be executed to the highest standards by the yard’s craftspeople.

The Ultima range already appears to be a hit, too. Sunreef already has 10 examples in the order book. Evidently, breaking the mold has paid off.

Yachting, boating and catamarans - Racy, powerful, elegant: these are the first words that come to mind when discovering the first visuals of the new Sunreef 88 Ultima. Eco-responsible comes a close second, as in addition to a traditional diesel version, this luxury model will be offered with a hybrid engine, a field in which the Polish shipyard is leading the way!

Sunreef Ultima: 3 models in just 18 months!

With its Ultima range, featuring 3 models - Sunreef Ultima 44, Sunreef Ultima 55 and now the flagship Sunreef Ultima 88 - the Polish shipyard Sunreef Yachts, world leader in semi-custom luxury catamarans, has broken new ground in the powercats market, with an original naval architecture combining the best of monohulls with the best of two-hulls!

Unique naval architecture

In other words, a Sunreef Ultima is a relatively narrow catamaran motoryacht: the Ultima 55 has a beam of 5.60m, while the Ultima 88 reaches 9.10m with the aft platforms folded! By way of comparison, a classic 120-foot monohull motoryacht generally has a beam of around 8m.

For Sunreef, this is the only choice of its kind for this type of unit, offering customers the best of monohull dynamics, with the living space of a multihull and its shallow draft. Not to mention easier berthing and much lower energy consumption!

A "game changer" design, between sport and adventure yacht

In terms of design, the Sunreef Ultima 44 and 55 seduced with a racy, sporty style, somewhere between yacht, XXL express cruiser and coupé.

The addition of a flybridge on the Ultima 88 adds a touch of adventure yacht to the design, affirming its presence and positioning. The Italian shipyards are well served by the arrival of a unit clearly targeting the 100 to 120 foot monohulls of the Transalpine region.

In the catamaran motoryacht market, a large part of the clientele consists of owners of large monohulls who want more usable volume for a shorter length, greater stability and greater family intimacy, thanks to a smaller crew. Motor catamarans in general, and the Sunreef Ultima range in particular, are a perfect match for these characteristics, as they are narrower than conventional motor catamarans.

Surprising versatility

The first visuals of the Sunreef Ultima 88 reveal a surprising versatility of use.

The exterior spaces are gigantic, from the aft beach club, worthy of a superyacht, to the XXL cockpit, well protected from the sun's bite by a vast roof cap, the foredeck saloon, which benefits from the width of the forward catamaran architecture, and the immense flybridge. There's no doubt that everyone will be able to get away from it all, or, on the contrary, enjoy a meal together, whether underway or at anchor. 

In terms of accommodation, the Sunreef 88 Ultima can accommodate up to 10 passengers, but the 8-passenger version offers a full-beam owner's suite free from the bathroom, positioned in the forward rostrum. This is unique on the market in terms of surface area, and is generally only found on superyachts of almost 150 feet, particularly due to its width. There's no doubt that this will be the layout option of choice for owners!

The private access to the owner's suite, and the exterior access to the crew quarters from the cockpit, offer total privacy to the owner and his guests.

Hybrid or diesel 

The Sunreef 88 Ultima is available with two main engine types. In addition to traditional diesel units, the Polish shipyard offers a particularly attractive hybrid diesel-electric engine, which should prove popular with customers who appreciate technology, silence and respect for the environment. 

This is a technology perfectly mastered by the shipyard, which for years has been developing its own batteries, using consumers whose energy efficiency is unique on the market (air conditioning, desalination...) and equipping its hybrid and electric vessels with in-house photovoltaic panels, integrated on the hull, roof cap and T-Top, enabling the creation of a volume of electrical energy truly adapted to this type of vessel. Self-generated energy, used both for on-board consumers and for propulsion!

Decryption - Sunreef is well ahead of its time in the field of eco-responsible yachting, and should once again distinguish itself with the Sunreef 88 Ultima, because it goes without saying that launching a luxury motoryacht catamaran today, without offering hybrid engines combined with optimized consumers, is a real non-starter in 2023. With this new Sunreef 88 Ultima, Sunreef is launching a real game changer in the adventure motoryacht market!

Superyacht Ultima III's price drops by €5 million at Edmiston & Merle Wood

News of yet another hefty price reduction comes from Merle Wood at Merle Wood & Associates and James Auld at Edmiston & Company as their joint listing, Abeking & Rasmussen's 57.3m motor yacht Ultima III , has a price cut of €5 million.

Built in 1998 to a Donald Starkey design, the luxury yacht is Lloyds classed and MCA compliant, sleeping 18 guests in a master, VIP, six doubles and a twin.  There's also a vast sundeck encompassing over half the length of Ultima III , plus Jacuzzi. The superyacht's range is 4,400 nautical miles at 14 knots and the yacht leaves South Florida today (December 17th) for St Maarten. Previously priced at €44.9 million, Ultima III  is now offered at €39.9 million.

The naval architecture office who actualised this yacht's drawings in respect of this ship is Abeking & Rasmussen and Donald Starkey Designs. Moreover, her interior designing is created by Donald Starkey Designs.

The New Build & Design relating to Luxury Yacht ULTIMA III

Abeking & Rasmussen Inhouse naval Architects was the naval architecture company involved in the formal nautical design work for ULTIMA III. Her interior design was conceived by Donald Starkey Designs. Abeking & Rasmussen and Donald Starkey Designs is also associated with the yacht general design work for this yacht. Built by Abeking & Rasmussen Yachts (Schiffs-Und Yachtwerft ) this vessel was constructed in the yacht producing country of Germany. She was officially launched in Lemwerder in 1998 before being delivered to the owner. The hull was built out of steel. The motor yacht superstructure component is fabricated mostly using aluminium. With a width of 10.3 metres or 33.8 feet ULTIMA III has spacious interior. She has a deep draught of 3.51m (11.5ft). She had refit improvement and alteration work completed by 2008.

Haswing Motors Ultima 3 electric outboard motor: First look

Haswing Motors has been quietly making a range of small electric boat motors for some time now, from tiny trolling motors suitable for kayaks up to the Ultima 3 you see here.

The Haswing Ultima 3 electric outboard is suitable for boats up to 7m according to the manufacturer. The brushless DC motor produces 3hp (claimed to be equivalent to a 4hp petrol outboard), and it’s available in short and long shaft versions as well as the standard length.

Its detachable 30V, 1.03 kW 20.3AH LiPO battery charges in six hours on a mains charger and offers typical runtimes from three hours (on half throttle), up to 10 hours (on slow throttle).

Not only is the battery unusually light at 5kg (lightest in class, according to the manufacturer), it also connects to the engine in a single simple operation without the need for connecting cables or other fiddly parts – no bad thing when you’re bobbing about in a tender! Our sister title Yachting Monthly recently reviewed the Haswing Ultima 3 as part of its best electric outboard motor group test and electric boats expert Emrhys Barrell had this to say:

“The battery was the easiest of all in our test to fit and remove, just sliding down a set of grooves, with contacts in the bottom removing the need for any linking cables or wires, and an easy one-handed operation.

“The unit is well engineered, with stainless steel used throughout plus an anode as standard, making this suitable for use in salt water, and a spare anode and shear pin. The tiller/throttle hinges up and down for easy operation and storage. It has a streamlined aluminium leg, but rotates 360º.

“A magnetic kill cord is a useful safety feature, and there are 5 LEDs showing battery capacity remaining, but this is the only instrumentation, so there is no way of gauging how much power you are using. It also meant that with no exposed power cables, we could not measure intermediate power settings.”

Bayesian yacht captain faces manslaughter probe after deadly sinking in sicily.

The captain of the luxury Bayesian yacht that sank near Porticello, off the coast of Sicily, last week will face an investigation into multiple counts of manslaughter and negligent shipwreck, the Italian prosecutor’s office announced Monday.

James Cutfield, 51, was the head of crew aboard the 184-foot sailing boat when it capsized in the throes of a ferocious storm last Monday, killing six passengers, including British tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah. The yacht’s chef Recaldo Thomas also likely died in the wreck.

The other victims were Morgan Stanley International director Jonathan Bloomer, prominent American lawyer Chris Morvillo, and both of their wives – Judy Bloomer and Neda Morvillo. Chris Morvillo, a partner at Clifford Chance, was involved in successfully defeating the U.S. fraud case against Lynch in June.

Cutfield and 14 other people survived the sinking, including Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares.

A weather phenomenon known as a waterspout – one of several types of tornadoes – is thought to have capsized the yacht. But Italian authorities are investigating whether the crew’s actions and their handling of the boat contributed to the deadly sinking.

New-Zealand born Cutfield is not in custody, according to Italian prosecutors, but he cannot leave the country while the investigation is ongoing.

Those killed were likely asleep at the time of the storm, a prosecutor said at the weekend, which is why they were unable to escape. On Saturday, the prosecutor and head of the fire brigade recovery team both said five bodies were found in the same room of the ship, which may have meant they were searching for an air pocket while the ship sank.

Investigators warned that the circumstances of the sinking remain largely unclear, including whether there was a black box onboard the ship, and if some of the ship’s hatches were left ajar – which would explain why it sank so rapidly.

Salvage crews are expected to raise the Bayesian – named after the statistical theory on which Lynch made his fortune – in the coming weeks. Under Italian law, the cost of raising and salvaging the ship falls on the ship’s owner.

As Bacares’ company owns the vessel, they must find a salvage company and raise the ship, which is then handed to Italian authorities as part of the investigation, the main prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio said on Saturday.

After the yacht is raised, investigators will determine if the hatches were open during the storm, Cartosio added.

Italian prosecutors will also investigate whether the ship’s chief mate was on the bridge when the ship sunk, and if anyone tried to warn the passengers of imminent danger.

Liverpool FC owner’s £66 million superyacht spotted off Broughty Ferry

A £66 million superyacht belonging to Liverpool FC owner John W Henry has been spotted off Broughty Ferry.

Elysian, a 66-metre-long vessel, docked in the Tay – between Broughty Ferry and Tayport – on Monday morning.

It travelled to the Tay from Aberdeen, where it was berthed over the weekend.

Locals said those on board the luxury yacht appeared to be using a smaller boat to reach the shore.

It is understood Henry was among them.

The yacht has since moved out towards Barry Buddon.

One onlooker said: “I think it belongs to the owner of a Premier League football team as I’d read it was up in Aberdeen yesterday .

“We were walking along the beach this morning when we spotted it.

“You think they’d rather be in the Mediterranean at this time of year with a boat like that.”

Elysian’s arrival in the Tay was mentioned by  Liverpool fan group KopTalkTV on YouTube .

In the video, the host said: “Don’t assume that he is in the UK just because the yacht’s in the UK.

“Maybe if you see him at the game then he’s obviously there, and what happened – he turned up at the game .”

The reason for the visit has not been confirmed but some locals have speculated Henry may be heading to the Old Course in St Andrews.

The yacht, which sails under the Cayman Islands flag, was built in Germany.

With a top speed of 16.5 knots, it has an outdoor swimming pool, helipad, spa centre and gym and glass lift.

There is room on board for up to 12 guests and 17 crew.

Previously named Ester III, the yacht was once owned by Russian entrepreneur Georgy Bedzhamov.

American businessman Henry – who also owns the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Penguins – bought the ship in 2016.

Deutsche Yacht tötet Spanier – und fährt einfach weiter

Berlin. Vor der Küste Mallorcas ist es zu einem tragischen Zusammenstoß von zwei Booten gekommen. Dabei wurde ein 20-jähriger Spanier getötet.

Gerade erst sorgte der tragische Fall eine versunkene Yacht vor der italienischen Küste für Aufsehen, da steht schon das nächste Luxus-Schiff im Mittelpunkt. Eine deutsche Yacht soll bei Mallorca rücksichtslos ein Fischerboot gerammt haben. In der Folge des Zusammenpralls starb ein 20-Jähriger. Das berichtet die mallorquinische Zeitung „Ultima Hora“.

Bei dem Toten soll es sich demnach um Guillem Comamala handeln, einen vielversprechenden Volleyballspieler .

Doch was genau war geschehen? Comamala war am vergangenen Freitag gemeinsam mit zwei Bekannten vor der Küste von Cala Bona, einem kleinen Ort an der Ostküste Mallorcas , zum Fischen gefahren. Da es bereits dunkel wurde, hatte das winzige Fischerboot (3,3 Meter Länge) seine Signalleuchten ordnungsgemäß eingeschaltet.

Dann das Unglück : Gegen 21.30 Uhr rauschte eine Yacht mit hoher Geschwindigkeit heran und rammte den Außenbordmotor des Fischerboots, riss ihn mit sich. Camamala, der direkt neben dem Motor saß, wurde ebenfalls getroffen und so schwer verletzt, dass auf der Stelle verstarb. Seine Begleiter, ein 13-jähriger Junge sowie Comamalas Onkel , wurden glücklicherweise nicht verletzt, so „Ultima Hora“.

Die Yacht, die unter deutscher Fahne fuhr, hielt jedoch nicht an und fuhr scheinbar unbekümmert weiter. Das Boot konnte wenig später in dem Hafenstädtchen Porto Cristo ausfindig gemacht werden. Warum genau der Yachtführer nicht anhielt und warum er das Fischerboot überhaupt rammte, wird derzeit noch ermittelt. Zudem ist derzeit noch unklar, wer die Schuld für den Zusammenprall trägt.

Comamala: Sein Verein zeigt sich geschockt

Comamalas Volleyball-Verein, der „Club Voleibal Manacor“ veröffentlichte einen Facebook-Post in Gedenken des Verstorbenen: „Guillem zeichnete sich durch seine Hingabe, sein Talent und seine Leidenschaft aus. (...) Der CV Manacor möchte seiner Familie und seinen Freunden (...) seine Trauer und Unterstützung ausdrücken.“ Comamala hatte sich trotz seines sportlichen Talents für eine akademische Ausbildung entschieden.

I procuratori statunitensi stanno cercando di riaprire il caso penale che accusa Donald Trump di cattiva gestione di documenti classificati e ostruzione, sostenendo che il giudice della Florida ha sbagliato a respingere l’atto di accusa quest’estate.

Meno di tre mesi prima che gli elettori statunitensi decidano se Trump debba ottenere un secondo mandato come presidente, l’ufficio del procuratore speciale Jack Smith ha chiesto a una corte d’appello di annullare l’ordine di luglio del giudice distrettuale statunitense Aileen Cannon. I procuratori affermano che Cannon ha sbagliato nel ritenere incostituzionale la nomina di Smith.

Cannon, che è stata nominata alla corte federale nel sud della Florida da Trump nel 2020, ha sostenuto che il Congresso non aveva chiaramente conferito al procuratore generale Merrick Garland l’autorità di nominare Smith, il che significava che l’intera accusa era illegale. Ha anche scoperto che l’uso di fondi federali per pagare il lavoro di Smith violava la Costituzione degli Stati Uniti. «La visione contraria di Cannon è in conflitto con un corso di decisioni altrimenti ininterrotto, incluso quello della Corte Suprema, secondo cui il Procuratore generale ha tale autorità, ed è in contrasto con le diffuse e consolidatissime pratiche di nomina nel Dipartimento di Giustizia e in tutto il governo”, hanno sostenuto i procuratori.

La documentazione dell’ufficio di Smith ha avvertito che il ragionamento di Cannon potrebbe mettere in dubbio la legittimità di centinaia di funzionari in tutto il ramo esecutivo. Il suo staff ha anche sostenuto che il giudice non ha tenuto conto della lunga storia dei consulenti speciali e ha dato troppo peso al modo in cui erano stati nominati in passato.

“Qualsiasi differenza sottile e non semantica tra un consulente speciale, un pubblico ministero speciale, un avvocato speciale e un assistente speciale del Procuratore generale non ha alcuna incidenza sul fatto che il Congresso abbia conferito al Procuratore generale il potere di effettuare tali nomine”, hanno scritto i procuratori.

L’ufficio di Smith non ha chiesto di accelerare l’appello prima della competizione presidenziale del 5 novembre. Trump dovrebbe rispondere alla memoria del governo tra un mese, e poi il governo avrà altre tre settimane per replicare. L’11th US Circuit Court of Appeals non ha ancora fissato una data per l’udienza.

Un portavoce di Trump non ha risposto immediatamente a una richiesta di commento.

Il parere di 93 pagine di Cannon è arrivato più di un anno dopo che Trump era stato originariamente incriminato. L’ex presidente è stato accusato di aver volontariamente trattenuto documenti contenenti informazioni sensibili sulla difesa nazionale dopo aver lasciato la Casa Bianca nel gennaio 2021, oltre a aver tentato di ostacolare gli sforzi del governo per indagare e recuperare i documenti.

Un processo era stato fissato per il 20 maggio, ma Cannon lo ha rinviato a tempo indeterminato, citando le continue lotte sulle prove e la discutibile legittimità dell’atto di accusa.

Il caso della Florida è uno dei due procedimenti penali che Smith ha intentato contro Trump . A Washington, dove Trump è accusato di aver cospirato per ostacolare le elezioni presidenziali del 2020 , l’ufficio del procuratore speciale sta riflettendo sulla sua prossima mossa dopo che la Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti ha stabilito quest’estate che è immune dalle accuse relative ai suoi atti ufficiali come presidente. Il caso della Florida includeva anche accuse contro l’assistente personale di Trump ed ex valletto della Casa Bianca Waltine “Walt” Nauta e Carlos De Oliveira, un amministratore immobiliare della tenuta di Trump a Mar-a-Lago.
