SEIKO presents the new Yachting Timer SPC049P1 from its Velatura Collection.
In 2009, five new creations joined the collection, each offering the same high level of specification as their illustrious predecessors.
In addition to renewing the agreement with the 49er Association, SEIKO has concluded a new agreement with the 29erXX Association whose new-design skiffs are fast becoming accepted as the most exciting new class for the world’s leading women sailors. This new agreement is celebrated in the launch of a new series of Velatura models for women.
The undoubted star of the 2009 Velatura collection is the new Yachting Timer. The new version is even more robust than its 2008 predecessor. The case is made from titanium, covered with a new hard coating.
The watch has a new screw-in crown system that ensures water resistance to 20 bar and it features a new combination strap in which leather and ballistic nylon are combined to offer a unique blend of elegance and strength. The dial with the pre-set start times highlighted in bright yellow and blue for even easier legibility.

Just fantastic. Thank you.
Thank you for the info! Worth noting is the GMT hand in the 6117-640x is bent towards the tip to clear the indices.
Thanks for using my bracelet pics above. I hadn't noticed as I looked at your link first and not your actual posting. The adjustment links are quite interesting in the 6117-6010 bracelet in that they are held together by small spring bars. Seiko only use this type of bracelet on a few models from the 1960's including some of the hand wound Sportsman bracelets. After that, they moved to cotter pins and later pin collar configurations (and annoyingly screws for some King Seiko VANAC and Grand Seiko bracelets). -Brian

@jlatassa - yes, the "Uncle" bracelets I linked will fit the 19mm 6217's - They are my favorite modern replacement. @hi_bri Thank you for the excellent photos and early help while I was just getting going with these!
@DC Lavman - Thanks! @Saswatch - NOTE: there are after market hand sets done for the 6117-640x - including the bent GMT, with the bend in the wrong spot vs the originals. The hands are also pretty easy to spot once you know what to look for.
Wow! amazing write up, and collection.
It sure is, the 6117-8000 Navigator Timer.
@Trog7074 thank you, sir! Just confirming.
yes, as Trog7074 indicated. This reissue is from the classic 6117-8000. I have one of the original ones and it is really nice. Although, I don't travel for business anymore, so it doesn't get much wear.
@HDelbruk pix needed! lol...very nice.
Yep, I’ll get some pictures out in a couple hours when I get back to my PC.
@HDelbruk that is in great shape!
Wow, what a resource this is!
I will be revising the first thread soon(ish) with (among other things) a the black dial version of the Asian Games. Also of interested to some - I believe all of the 1967 Olympic torch re-editions with red GMT use Radium lume on the hour and minute hands, which indicates to me that that version specifically was likely intended for the US market.
I've updated the first thread with RADIUM LUME call outs. Namely the 6217-7000 with lumed hands and red GMT from 1967 and the 6117-6019 versions all appear to use Radium Lume. I have many more photos to add in the near(ish) future... I also barred out some 6117-6400/9 versions that I no longer think are original combinations, reducing that list down just a little.

I mentioned in a previous post that I had seen copy Seiko Velaturas here in Thailand. Just so happens a friend from Australia came over today wearing the watch I've pictured. I happen to own a Velatura myself (different model) but this copy of the Yacting Timer is good enough to fool most people, and all the functions work exactly as on the genuine model. I'm not condoning buying copy watches, but just giving a heads up to potential Velatura buyers. If they are going to copy the Velatura, what's next, copy Grand Seikos?
I can't even tell its fake! :-[

Dennis, any pointers on what you found in comparision with the watches. Or was it all revealed when the caseback was removed. Cheers Yorkie

Devilinside said: Wow, I've been looking at those (great) pictures of the fake Velatura, and must admit I would'nt known it was a fake. Can you please enlighten, for some of us (like myself) about how you discover it is a fake, besides the price? This is the kind of things we need to know, I mean, how to spot them. Click to expand...
Hi That's a bit of a worry, although as always the "O" in seiko on the fake is too round, just like aftermarket dials, the rest looks very good seikola

Seems like the copy has less white/lume area on the hands, well maybe.
Here is someone who is selling them and is not stopped bij Marktplaats ( an Ebay company): http://verkopers.marktplaats.nl/9781447 On Ebay, a Turkish seller is also selling them.

The immediate give-away is the hands, gentlemen. The Velatura hands are very stout and rhomboid. This replica has almost dauphin-like hands, and the cut-out for the lume is way too small. I followed Rob's link to the site with the fakes, and here's an enlarged pic link: http://verkopen.marktplaats.nl/photopopup/481107493/1 Now note, the first pic of that series is a Seiko stock pic, and is the real watch. Look how thick the hands are. Then look at how sharp the hands look on the seller's pics of the fake. I'm not totally sold on the roundness of the O. Not that I'm suggesting it's untrue, but I definitely know I'd probably fail at being able to definitely tell if it's one way or the other without a direct comparisson. Ironically this seller is also selling SPB001 the premier auto. Just instead of a power reserve, it's a retro-grade day indicator. A much worse replication.

daveswordfish said: A couple of other things between the two pics. The date wheel on the original is black with white print. The fake is white with black print. Also, the inner bezel ring is a tachymeter on the original...not so on the fake. That said, without being intimately familiar with the model or having a side-by-side for comparison, it would be tough to tell. Buyer beware. Click to expand...
now the differences become even easier to spot. Thanks for clarifying that.
first thing that jumped was that the "Velatura" text is fairly plain and straight on the copy, and more italic and serifed on the genuine article. But then, I'm a proof-reader, so that jumped out.
