The historical bridge arches over the north end of Grand Lake and is the state of Oklahoma’s second longest bridge placed over the water. The structure was first built in 1938 by the Grand River Dam Authority.

Sail Boat Bridge is over 2,500 feet long and almost thirty feet wide. The bridge currently is two lanes on each side and also holds a small walkway. Tall sail boats have the ability to cross under the bridge without challenges. In 1939, Sail Boat Bridge of Grand Lake Ok received national recognition.

Sailboat Bridge over the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees was the first precast concrete segmental bridge in Oklahoma. The FIGG design resulted in a savings of $1 million when bid against a bulb tee alternate. In addition to the cost savings, ODOT realized greater aesthetic value, increased durability, and minimal maintenance requirements due to design features of the post-tensioned structure. The design includes the use of an integral wearing surface which far exceeded the standard for rideability in the state. The 3,044’ long twin bridges were completed more than two months ahead of schedule.
