Guests will begin boarding the Arabella at 4pm in historic downtown Newport harbor. Newport is the sailing capital of our country and this is where the America’s Cup Races were held for over 50 years until 1983. The Captain will invite all guests for a “Welcome Aboard Cocktail” on the deck, afterwards guests may go ashore for a night on the town with dinner at one of the many amazing Newport restaurants.

Morning begins with a splendid departure from Newport. We then shake out our canvas and sail over to Martha’s Vineyard. On the “Vineyard,” we will anchor off Edgartown. You can spend the afternoon on the beach or take an island tour. You can also taxi over to Oak Bluffs which is a quaint Victorian village known for its gingerbread houses, eclectic restaurants and Presidential visits. Dinghy back to the Arabella early evening for cocktails and gourmet dinner aboard.

This morning begins with an exhilarating sail to Nantucket, the historic island 30 miles out to sea. Nantucket was once the world’s center of the whaling industry and is still largely undeveloped and true to its roots. You can take the launch to a pristine secluded beach or explore in one of our kayaks. There is a Whaling Museum on Broad Street. It originally was a factory for refining whale oil and exhibits all the tools of the trade including a full sized whale skeleton and an incredible collection of scrimshaw. You can also enjoy the fine shopping along the cobblestoned streets of Nantucket’s 19th century downtown.

We will sail back to Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard. Be sure to pay your respects at the Edgartown Yacht Club which hosts prestigious regattas every summer. You can explore more, go to the beach or visit Chappaquiddick Island and the Cape Pogue Wildlife Refuge. It`s a great place for an invigorating hike. You can also visit the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, a 200 acre tract owned and operated by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. In the summer nature trails are ripe with blueberry, blackberry and beach plums.

After rising to a beautiful sunrise and hearty breakfast, we will weigh anchor and set sail for the enchanting island of Cuttyhunk. This jewel of the Elizabethan Islands has one of the most picturesque harbors in all of New England. The evening will find us on the beach for a real New England lobster bake, complete with all the trimmings included in your fare.

We set sail in the morning and return to Newport late morning/early afternoon. Enjoy breakfast with your shipmates on your final day under Arabella’s billowing sails. After your grand entrance to Newport Harbor, you can choose to disembark that same day or, if your schedule permits, you can spend another night onboard in Newport.

Disembark by 11 am. Use your extra time in Newport to visit the mansions, sail on an America’s Cup 12 Meter, ride the Rum Runner at sunset and party like a sailor.

Please Note. This itinerary is only an example. All stops are subject to the captain’s discretion and may vary due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Where do we meet Arabella?

Arabella will be anchored in Newport, Rhode Island. Once you arrive to Newport the Arabella crew will shuttle you out to the ship. Details on where to pick up the tender will be provided prior to arriving n Newport.

What is the easiest way to get to Newport Rhode Island?

Most Major Airlines fly into Providence, Rhode Island. Also, train service from major east coast cities also arrives in Providence. From Providence, a taxi or rideshare is about 40 minutes to the dock.

Are there electrical outlets in the cabins?

Yes. Each of the cabins has individual electrical outlets. Each cabin has a full head, shower, and climate control. Drawers are also situated beneath the bunk for proper storage of clothing.

Are dinners included on this cruise?

Two dinners will be included on Arabella and one clambake on Cuttyhunk (conditions permitting) will be included. All other dinners will be ashore and the responsibility of the passengers. Breakfast and lunch will be included along with periodic snacks. Water and soft drinks are also included. Alcoholic beverages are NOT included.

Are linens included?

Yes. The staterooms are fully stocked with towels and bedding. It is recommended that you bring a beach towel for your onshore excursions.

Cancellation Policy

The Cruise Fare shall be deemed to be earned when paid and not refundable except as stated herein. If a guest cancels a trip 60 or more days in advance, they will receive a refund of all monies paid to ASA except 50% of the deposit. If a guest cancels a trip between 30 and 60 days, they will receive a refund of all monies paid except the full deposit. No cancelations are permitted within the final 30 days. If the guest fails to make an agreed-upon payment when due, they will be charged a $15 late fee for each additional day. If the guest fails to make a payment after 10 days after it was due, their contract can be canceled and no deposits will be returned.

Le Grand Bleu, One of World’s Largest Private Yachts, Arrives in Newport

The 371-foot long Le Grand Bleu , one of the largest private yachts in the world, arrived in Newport on Tuesday, July 11th.

Le Grand Bleu was built for US telecommunications baron John McCaw and has been owned by Eugene Shvidler, a Russian-American oil businessman, since June 2006.  She was built at the Bremer Vulkan yard in Bremen, Germany, and was launched in 2000.

Shvilder owns the Château Thénac vineyard in France, a $37 million home in Belgravia in London, a $14.5 million home in Aspen and has a network of $1.3 billion.

The yacht has a crew of 65 and carries a veritable arsenal of tenders and water toys, both on her aft decks and in her extensive below-deck garage, where there is a large aquarium. Her watercraft includes a 73-foot Dubois-designed sailing yacht, Bellatrix; a 68-foot meter Sunseeker motor yacht; two 11 36-foot, 60-knot Buzzi sports boats; and a landing craft to carry a 4×4 Land Rover used for excursions ashore and a helicopter.

The boat is currently at anchor in Narragansett Bay, just off of Goat Island in front of Belle Mer.  It is unknown how long she will be spending in Newport.

Le Grand Bleu is the 24th largest private yacht in the world, according to Wikipedia .

The largest private yacht in the world? That would be Azzam at 591 feet, a yacht that is no stranger to Newport.

NASCAR team owner Roger Penske's glamourous $120,000,000 yacht drops anchor at Newport, Rhode Island

R oger Penske, owner of Penske Racing, welcomed his luxurious Podium Yacht as it arrived at Newport, Rhode Island. The vessel has been valued at $120M.

The Podium Yacht has been developed by Feadship and RWD. It can go up to the speed of 18 knots and weighs 1,850 tons. It marks its presence in the waters with a 239 feet length.

The high-end yacht has seven dedicated cabins for a crew of 14 people who keep the yacht running smoothly. It can further accommodate 12 guests in six cabins.

The grand yacht was spotted in Newport, Rhode Island. Richard Penske, the owner of the $120 million Podium, is valued at $3.7 billion, according to Forbes.

He also owns Team Penske which takes part in the NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar. A former racer himself, Penske has been involved in motorsports for over six decades. He is also the owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to the legendary Indianapolis 500 race.

Josef Newgarden extended Penske's legacy on the track earlier after winning the Indy500 after a four-hour delay in the start following extreme weather conditions.

Josef Newgarden to race for Roger Penske after a multi-year contract extension

Within a week of winning the Indy500, Newgarden was offered a multi-year deal by Team Penske and he will continue to race for the team. He first raced with Roger Penske's team in IndyCar in 2017 and finished the season in first place. After signing the contract extension, he said:

"I don't think I have any words for what this has been like," ESPN quoted Newgarden . "Team Penske has been my family for eight years, and I can't imagine being anywhere else."

Despite his very successful stint with the team, he faced a major low this season after he was disqualified from the season-opening race in Florida.

Team Penske's cars were found to be illegally using the push-to-pass button on their cars during restarts and race starts. He was initially the winner of the race before IndyCar authorities announced his disqualification. Roger Penske suspended several crew members after the verdict.

He has still managed to keep his competitiveness after winning the Indy500. Penske was also impressed with Newgarden's stint with the team. He said in a statement:

"Josef Newgarden is a true winner, and we are excited that he will continue as a part of Team Penske for years to come. What he did Sunday in the Indianapolis 500 shows how Josef consistently delivers for our team and our partners on the track, and he is just as impressive off the track as well. We are proud to have Josef continue with our organization as his skill and passion embody what it means to be a Team Penske driver."

The onus now shifts on Newgarden to justify the faith that his team's owner has in him.

Sailing Arabella with American Sailing

There are eight sails on Arabella, and when she is fully outfitted to move in the wind, she is majestic. When you see her from shore, you ponder what it would be like to feel the movement on her decks. When you are on board, you sit in awe. She is elegant and poised as she adapts under full sail. While Arabella acts like a sailboat, she advances across the ocean like Audrey Hepburn would move across a crowded room in her little black dress.

Arabella moves with grace, sailing like the ocean is hers. When you watch from the bow, all you can see is the sails leaning away from the wind. You can almost see Bernoulli’s math being worked out and you can hear the wind being utilized to bring forth the experience.

Sailing on Arabella is still sailing, but it should not be confused with a dinghy on the lake or your first ride on a Catalina 27. 

As an ASA member, you get to experience Arabella firsthand. If you are up to it, you can even take the helm or raise a sail.

Will You Be Sailing Arabella?

ASA members toured the waters off Massachusetts and Rhode Island aboard Arabella this past summer. The voyage began in Newport, Rhode Island, and stopped at Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cuttyhunk before returning for a day at the sailing mecca of Newport.

Approaching Martha’s Vineyard on an elegant ship such as Arabella almost immediately puts you in the crosshairs of envy. Everyone looks at you green with envy. Her stature at anchor is not necessarily imposing in as much as it is distracting. Her masts rise above the deck and stand sleek against the horizon. Boats sail by to take a look at her — people wave. People stare. You smile. You raise your glass to them.

Anchoring in Nantucket, the tender ride into town allows for some gawking time. The number of beautiful schooners in the harbor is difficult to imagine. Your local marina would be hard-pressed to compare with the population in this harbor 30 miles out to sea. Enjoying clams and lobsters with a view of Arabella at the Sandbar at Jetties Beach proves to be an exercise in self-restraint.  You try not to boast how you came in on “your” yacht, but she was too large to anchor in the main harbor.

With 24 luxurious cabins and a salon large enough for fine dining, the ASA members aboard the Grand Tour take full advantage of the entire ship. The salon doubles as a dance floor. The hot tub is crowded each evening.  The bar is consistently a hotbed of tall tales and bad boat jokes as members wait for their libations. The group starts as 30 strangers and evolves into a large gathering of friends on the deck watching the sunset.

The Arabella Experience

I wave at a passing boat as the passengers on the small vessel circle Arabella. 

“That’s a beautiful boat,” they shout.

I smile and nod in agreement.

Such is an afternoon on this magnificent ship where, even in these waters filled with experienced sailors, the yacht’s beauty attracts inquisitive eyeballs. When you are on the deck, the sailing community seems to envy you. They stare as if you are part of a different privileged class that sails on multimillion-dollar yachts to glamorous ports as part of everyday life.

For a week on an ASA sponsored sail, you are part of that class.

Originally named Priscilla for the Teel Family in Boston, MA. Before Pricilla, BW Rand's Boat Shop built a Sam Crocker Design with a raised deck. BW Rand later realized that with a couple changes he could improve upon the original Sam Crocker Design. With borrowed molds, the shop spaced some sections, and opted for the long cabin top and adjusted the stern layouts. With a displacement hull, speed was never the main goal for Temma but instead designed to be stable & spacious. With her smooth styling, Temma is a perfect cruiser. Over the years multiple families have been the caretakers of this iconic New England Yacht & each have maintained her perfectly, for the next owners to continue on the legacy. Yacht Rum Runner II

Enjoy a breathtaking classic motor yacht tour aboard the Yacht Rum Runner II of Newport Harbor! Relive the speed and thrill of the chase of the smuggler boats from the days of Prohibition. Yacht RUM RUNNER II was built during the height of Prohibition for use in the rumrunner trade.  Today she now offers the luxury of a classic motor yacht and the intrigue you would imagine of a high-speed bandit with a history all her own. This vessel is 58 feet and can take up to 49 passengers.

Aboard Rum Runner II, you will cruise by Newport mansions and former speakeasies, lighthouses, islands and many other points of interest along the waterfront. This restored Elco motor yacht carries you swiftly and safely through local waters of Newport on an adventurous sightseeing cruise. Originally powered with three Liberty aircraft engines, she has been re-powered with twin turbo-charged 350HP Caterpillar Marine Diesels, to ensure your Newport Harbor experience is both thrilling and comfortable.

A little bit of history on who owned an Elco: On Rum Runner II and her builder – Elco: John Jacob Astor owned four of them. Grand Duke Alexander of Russia, attending a naval review in New York in 1893, saw one of Astor’s launches and wanted one so badly he insisted on buying the one already ordered by the captain of the newly launched cruiser USS New York, who then had to wait for a new one. When the Grand Duke’s cousin, Czar Nicholas II, saw Alexander’s launch, he liked it so much he bought one too. Admiral Dewey owned one, and so did Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild. Charles Lindbergh had one customized for his honeymoon. Actors Wallace Beery and Reginald Denny each had one, as did comedian Ed Wynn. Henry Ford and Thomas Edison kept theirs at their adjoining Florida estates. John F. Kennedy got his “used” and it nearly cost him his life. Lt. John Bulkeley saved the hide of General Douglas MacArthur in one, and later won the Congressional Medal of Honor with it.

JONATHAN S. CHAPMAN, CPYB

Jonathan developed a love for yachting at an early age, learning the ins and outs of seamanship from his family while cruising the coast of Maine. His college summers were spent working as dockmaster and launch operator at several New England yacht clubs, while simultaneously racing in local PHRF and one design fleets.

Prior to his entry into the brokerage business in 1999, Jonathan spent several years employed aboard various motor yachts, both private and charter. This first-hand knowledge of the many aspects of yachting – from vessel servicing to operation to business management – provides him with the unique ability to understand the many facets of yacht ownership.

Jonathan’s brokerage experience casts a wide net, including production sail and powerboats, new build mega-yachts and classic wooden yachts. He has worked with the well-respected firms of Bartram & Brakenhoff, International Yacht Collection and Northrop & Johnson.

Jonathan currently serves as the President of the Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA), and has been paramount in their form’s revision committee, assisting in the redesign of the contracts used by licensed brokers across the industry. He is a member of IYBA (International Yacht Brokers Association) and earned his CPYB (Certified Professional Yacht Broker) certification in 2005. He is also a Florida-licensed yacht broker and a licensed yacht captain.

Jonathan offers comprehensive knowledge of yachting to both Worth Avenue Yachts and his clients with focus on brokerage yacht sales and new construction projects worldwide. He has earned a reputation in the industry for honesty, integrity, and for going the extra mile. Jonathan represents the Newport, Rhode Island office of Worth Avenue Yachts and he is standing by to assist you in listing your yacht for sale or finding your next dream yacht.
