Real Club Nautico

Harbour real club nautico, real club nautico.

The luxurious yacht club in the heart of Palma Bay: The Real Club Náutico is one of the most important marinas in the Balearic Islands and thus a sought-after maritime meeting place. The popular club surpasses its high standards year after year. Numerous services, high security measures and a varied entertainment programme make every stay a real pleasure. The largest marina in Palma, with just under 1000 berths, is just as popular with club members as it is with the international public. We recommend booking in good time.

Small boutiques and impressive department stores: Palma is a true shopper’s paradise. From small souvenirs to regional products and luxury goods of all kinds, the old town and the Porto Pí Shopping Centre fulfil every wish. For authentic, local products, it’s worth marvelling at the market stalls.

The Real Club Náutico regularly attracts exciting sailing regattas. In spring, the season opens with the PalmaVela and a big party for the spectators, and in August, sailing enthusiasts from all over the world celebrate their sport at the Copa del Rey MAPFRE.

SIGHTSEEING AND ACTIVITIES

Theatres, cinemas, bars and discos: leisure options abound in Palma’s old town, which is within walking distance. During the day, weekly and hippy markets are a popular activity in the island capital, in the evening you can visit galleries or immerse yourself in the city’s colourful nightlife. Our tip: The former fishing village of Portixol has developed into a real trendy district in Palma. Here it’s all about seeing and being seen – on a stroll along the waterfront promenade or over lunch in a charming café.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS

Evenings in Palma are exciting and glamorous. Whether it’s exclusive parties in the city’s popular nightclubs or elegant dinners in one of the excellent restaurants near the harbour, Palma’s special atmosphere captivates everyone.

RESTAURANT MAR DE NUDOS

Palma’s culinary scene reaches a new level with the “Mar de Nudos”. The multinational cuisine paired with a modern ambience creates a true oasis for gourmets. The gentle sway of the yachts in the marina makes the setting perfect. Homemade sushi specialities are joined by Mediterranean highlights and refreshing drinks on the exquisite menu. The pasta fresh from the cheese wheel is an insider tip among the guests. Taste your way through the nations and enjoy a special evening in Palma.

Palma’s unique chiringuito “LA CAÑA” invites you to a beach holiday in the middle of the city. Surrounded by the colours of the sea, dine and enjoy authentic Mediterranean food. The ambience is deliberately kept simple, which makes the beach bar feeling perfect. A visit to LA CAÑA is particularly worthwhile in large groups. A variety of tapas and different group menus make you want to get together in a relaxed setting. The restaurant puts it aptly: “There is always a reason to enjoy life and good tapas.”

ACTIVITIES BLUE FLAG / Blue Sport 2020

Within the framework of the “Blue Flag” program, this year the Club Nàutic Costa Brava has carried out different environmental awareness and education campaigns. One of them has been the placement of stickers with the pictograms of the waste that must be deposited in each container in order to make club users aware of the importance of selective waste collection.

On the other hand, as part of the "Blue Sport" school sailing program, students have done research on how to minimize the effects of marine pollution. In this way, they become aware that the sea is part of our ecosystem and we must take care of it together.

Es Nautic, the yacht club in San Antonio Ibiza.

One of the best yacht clubs in Ibiza is Es Nàutic, located at the heart of San Antonio, a town west of Ibiza Island, surrounded by a beautiful bay.

Friendly harbour

Es Nàutic, the yacht club in San Antonio, has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. They offer a wide range of moorings at reasonable prices. This makes the port home to a wide variety of ships. At the docks you can find small boat rental companies welcoming their guests, boat owners drinking their coffee and exchanging gossip, and children going to and from the sailing school. This port has preserved its friendly and casual ambiance.

They found a way to combine commercial interest without neglecting services to smaller vessels and companies. Not all docks have found this kind of balance. The marinas at the port of Ibiza town have made the decision to go after the big bucks. The harbour’s policy has changed favouring the super yachts and big ships by treating them as priority clients. The consequences are that small vessels (less than 15m long) are often put on never-ending waiting lists. During peak season, there are not enough docking points for these smaller vessels to dock. Sleeping outside of a port can be great if the weather conditions are good, but even then the captain needs to be alert, as the weather can change fast at sea. We are glad that Es Nàutic doesn’t only go after big fish. The local staff at the harbour is very helpful and they encourage people to discover more about sailing. This creates a neighbourly atmosphere that we love.

Installations and  facilities

Since Es Nàutic as founded in  1973, they have constantly improved their facilities. Their goal was to provide an infrastructure that would support the sailing community. The last renovation took place just when the financial crisis hit Spain. Finding funds and support to renovate the facilities was a challenge but the result is a modern port with great facilities. At the entrance of the harbour, we find parking spaces that clients can use. It’s also possible to enter the port. This makes loading and unloading your car and boat easy. There is also an underground car park that can be used by clients at Plaza España, 5 minutes from the main gate, which provides more space to keep the entrance of the harbour free.

Near the entrance you will find a new restaurant. It was opened in 2013. The building is quite special as it rises from the water and it is suspended above the sea. This gives you the sensation that you are still on the water. They serve good food, but most captains like me miss the old bar. We can be a bit sentimental about this. Luckily we have another bar on the other side of the entrance to the dock, which is loved by most skippers for its good coffee and nice bartenders, commonly known as “El Chiringuito”.

When you enter the piers, you will find the sports installations to your left. Here they organise regattas, sailing courses for children and other sports activities like canoeing and stand up paddle surfing. There is a team of professional instructors that help students develop new skills in a safe and fun way. You can find up-to-date information about their lessons and the regattas they organise on their website.

Next to the office, we find the public toilets. They are clean, spacious, and equipped with hairdryers and music so you can start your day fresh and happy. There is also a laundry service that runs regularly, so you can shine on the docks.

Behind pontoon C, you will find the gas station that is open throughout the entire day from dawn to dusk. Boats that need to fill up their fuel tanks can easily dock next to the petrol or diesel pumps. From 2015 onwards, the yacht club in San Antonio  has offered buoys for rent, just off the main piers, so vessels can spend the night tied to these buoys, which are not free, but much cheaper than regular docking points at port. There is a special complimentary dinghy service that brings visitors and crew to their boats and vice versa.

Channel nine is probably the most valued attribute of this marina in San Antonio. If you call for assistance from the harbour, you always get a quick response. Even during the night or at the peak of the season.

The registration process is well-organised, and experienced staff manages the harbour smoothly. This results in fast and high-quality service. Docking availability is checked within moments. They also provide rapid, fitting solutions to technical or practical problems.

The land crew is well known for their friendly attitude and pro-active mindset. It is quite common that a crew member will offer to help you find a place to dock before you call them on channel nine. They are sometimes advised by the watchtower before you even give notice! They are very cooperative. It’s also possible to make an online booking to secure a spot at the port.

Close to the best beaches in Ibiza

One of the best things about its location is the short distance to some of the best beaches in Ibiza, such as gorgeous Cala Bassa Beach , Cala Conta Beach, Cala Salada, or even to the amazing Es Vedrà Islands .

Security is very important and all the installations are well-maintained, so this helps quite a lot. The port is highly secure due to surveillance cameras, and extra staff who are on duty during the night to make sure everyone gets a good night’s sleep.

We love the facilities, good service, and nice atmosphere of Es Nàutic. If only the WI-FI worked properly every day, I would never set foot on land again!

Two handicaps of the yacht club in San Antonio

Although the list of plusses is infinitely longer, the port also has two inconvenient aspects that we have to accept.

  • First of all, the marina is far from the most requested tourist destinations. Most people want to go to Salinas or Formentera. The attraction towards Formentera Island is understandable as it is listed as one of those places you must visit. It lies 25 miles from our dock. This means that if you rent a sailing boat for only a day, you won’t have much time to enjoy swimming since the distance makes it difficult to sail to Formentera and back just in one day. Personally, I also prefer to stay out of this so called “hot spot” since this area is extremely crowded during the summer. It has the highest concentration of yachts in the Mediterranean. On the contrary, sailing conditions in the bay of San Antonio are ideal, with favourable thermal winds, uncongested seas, so we can set sail for calm crystal blue water around the bay in San Antonio.
  • The second problem is an aesthetic one as San Antonio is not one of the prettiest towns on Ibiza. Previous decades of cheap mass-promoted tourism have left their mark on San Antonio. In recent years, local authorities have tried to stop this trend. There has been significant improvement with clubs like Café del Mar, Mambo Café, Ocean Beach Club that have a more laid back atmosphere. Despite the improvements, you can still run into shirtless and intoxicated tourists stumbling around.

Fortunately, Es Nautic is a safe harbour against the summer madness. When I cross the checkpoint of the main entrance of the port, I feel at home. I can already lower my guard since I won’t have to dodge more tourists that seem to have walked off the set of Night of Living Dead. Luckily, Ibiza is much more than a party island.

The Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven, the world’s oldest yacht club dating back to 1720, announced an historic milestone yesterday evening with the appointment of its first female Admiral, Annamarie Fegan.

In addition, the new executive will include three females for the first time, bringing fresh perspectives and direction to the club’s leadership.

nautic yacht club

Over its remarkable 303-year history, the Royal Cork Yacht Club has evolved from being a gentlemen’s sailing club to a family-oriented institution. This latest achievement, with a female taking up the highest ranking position of the club, represents another progressive step forward in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the sailing community.

Annamarie Fegan, an ardent sailor and a devoted member of the club for many years, brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her new role. Her appointment highlights the club’s commitment to empowering women in the sport and fostering an environment where all members can thrive. Over the last 25 years, Annamarie has held a number of voluntary positions within the club. She was instrumental in hosting some of the club’s biggest events, including the Volvo Cork Week. She has achieved much both on and off the water. Former owner of catering business An Excellent Choice, Annamarie re-trained as a co-creational psychotherapist and recently completed a masters in the psychotherapy of relationship mentoring. On the water, she has enjoyed many sailing triumphs, her proudest being with her daughters Molly and Mia, her husband Denis and the Nieulargo Crew as they won the best Irish boat in the iconic Fastnet Race last year.

Annamarie’s ambition is to get more people on the water. Commenting, she said, “I’m really passionate about giving opportunities to get more young people on the water. We have pathways for all ages into sailing from young kids to teens and adults. Not everyone can afford to own a boat but every boat needs a crew and we are always looking for crew. Anyone can get involved these days and it’s a really great sport. You learn fantastic skills from basic boat-handling to decision-making. Most of all it’s fun and challenging! We here at the Royal Cork are working really hard to break through the social and financial barriers that may have prevented people from trying out sailing up to now. We want to make it accessible for all who wish to give it a try. For instance, every 6th class child in Crosshaven gets the chance to do a one-week sailing course and people of all ages can sign up for our Try Sailing courses. While some people enjoy the competitive side, some just want to enjoy being part of a club and having fun on the water. For instance, the mixed dinghies with kids are huge now – they really enjoy it.”

Commenting on being the first female to hold the highest position in the club, Admiral Annamarie said “As the club’s first female Admiral, I stand on the shoulders of outstanding female members who worked tirelessly for the club but were not given this opportunity. I am confident that we have amazing girls rising up through the ranks who will be well suited to take on this post in the future. I’m very excited about working with the new leadership team as the volunteers are the backbone of the club.”

Speaking about the family benefits of sailing, she said. It’s great for mental health, getting out in the fresh air, and it opens up fantastic opportunities. My children (both in their early 20’s) have travelled teaching sailing. Nothing beats the feeling of being on the water – it clears my head. We are lucky here in Cork to have such great facilities for sailing.”

Annamarie Fegan takes to the helm in a year that the club is hosting two prestigious events – the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals in April, and the bi-annual Volvo Cork Week from 15-19th July.

Commenting, Minister Simon Coveney said “The Royal Cork Yacht Club has always been a pioneer for sailing, both in Cork and internationally. As the oldest sailing club in the world it has led the way in the growth of sailing. Annamarie’s leadership will inspire a new generation of sailing families. I am confident that under her leadership the Royal Cork Yacht Club will remain at the cutting edge of sailing in the coming decades.”

The Royal Cork Yacht Club also expressed its gratitude to outgoing Admiral Kieran O Connell for his dedicated service. Commenting Gavin Deane, General Manager at Royal Cork Yacht Club said, “We are indebted to Kieran for his great leadership and direction over the last number of years. His vision and dedication has been instrumental in the great development and growth of the club. We look forward to the innovative and inclusive direction that Annamarie will undoubtedly bring to the role”.

Founded in 1720, the Royal Cork Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club in the world. With a rich history and a commitment to promoting sailing excellence, the club has played a vital role in shaping the maritime heritage of the Cork region. The club offers a range of courses and training opportunities for people of all ages from Junior Try sailing, cadets, optimist, Keelboats, topper and laser fleets, adult beginner and advanced sailing courses and the recently revived mixed dingy fleet which feeds into the junior academy.

Ukraine steps up strikes into Russia as Moscow pushes ahead in the east

As Ukrainian forces fight to isolate a large group of Russian soldiers caught between a river in Russia’s Kursk province and the Ukrainian border, Ukraine has launched a series of strikes at airfields, ports and oil depots in other regions of Russia aimed at degrading the Kremlin’s war effort.

A Ukrainian missile strike on the Black Sea port of Kavkaz hit a large cargo ferry laden with fuel Thursday, triggering a towering blaze at the facility, according to Russian and Ukrainian officials as well as video posted to social media channels. Kavkaz is one of the country’s largest passenger ports and the main ferry terminal connecting Russia with Crimea.

“This ferry is one of the key links in the Russian military logistics chain, primarily for supplying the occupying forces with fuel and lubricants, but it also transported weapons,” a Ukrainian navy spokesperson, Dmytro Pletenchuk, said in a statement.

The strike on the port is the latest in Ukraine’s effort to step up its attacks inside Russia as the two countries pound each other with a series of punches and counterpunches, using both direct assaults and more precision-guided drone and artillery attacks.

As Russia presses on in eastern Ukraine, threatening to take a strategic city, Ukraine holds more than 490 square miles in southern Russia – an area about the size of Los Angeles – and is launching attacks into other areas of Russia to bring the fight to its adversary.

The attack on the transit hub came after strikes on the only bridge linking Crimea to Russia over the Kerch Strait left it partly damaged, according to Ukrainian officials and military analysts, limiting the weight of cargo that could be carried by train across the span, forcing Moscow to increasingly rely on large ferries capable of carrying rail cars to support its occupation forces on the peninsula, which it annexed in 2014.

“The ferry sank, effectively blocking the operation of this part of the port,” Pletenchuk said. “They still have one platform left for loading rail cars onto ferries. However, there are no ferries available.”

The RIA state news agency of Russia, citing emergency services, said that a fire sparked by the attack had “practically” not affected the port’s infrastructure but that the ferry struck by Ukraine was half submerged. It was not possible to independently assess the extent of the damage.

Ukraine’s stepped-up targeting of sites in Russia is part of an attempt to counter Moscow’s decided advantages in the east. In recent days, Moscow’s troops have seized at least three settlements, closing in on Pokrovsk, a logistics hub for the Ukrainian army in the region. With the city of roughly 60,000 people under threat of Russian artillery, Ukrainian officials have urged civilians to leave.

While the Kremlin is moving reinforcements to the Kursk area in hopes of blunting the Ukrainian advance, it has made clear that it will not relax its assault in the east around the cities of Pokrovsk and Toretsk and the town of Niu-York.

“They have a firm position not to withdraw troops” from these offensive operations, Roman Kostenko, the secretary of the defense and intelligence committee in Ukraine’s parliament, told Ukrainian journalists. “This is a strategic direction for them, and we now see that even though they realize they have no reserves to recapture Kursk, they are still focusing on the territory of Donetsk.”

Ukraine’s attack on the ferry depot was part of a long-running effort to isolate Russian forces on the peninsula, which served as one of the launchpads for Russia’s full-scale invasion and continued to play an important role in supporting Russian occupation forces in southern Ukraine.

The Ukrainians also targeted the Marinovka military airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region before dawn Thursday, using long-range drones to hit the base around 180 miles from the Ukrainian border.

The strikes damaged hangars and other facilities at the base, according to satellite imagery verified by military analysts and data from NASA that tracks fires, as well as videos and photographs circulating on social media that have been geolocated by military analysts. A precise damage or casualty toll could not be independently verified.

Andrey Bocharov, the governor of the Volgograd region, claimed “most of the drones” were destroyed and the damage was caused by falling debris.

The assault came as Ukraine increased its attacks on Russian airfields, striking four in western Russia last week.

At the same time, a giant blaze at the Proletarsk oil storage facility in the southern Rostov region of Russia continued to burn Friday, nearly a week after a Ukrainian drone strike Aug. 18. While local Russian authorities have declared a state of emergency in the area, Russian state media quoted local officials urging people “not to give in to panic.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian campaign to seize land inside Russia and the long-range strikes were part of a coordinated effort to bring the war to Russians in a way they have not felt to date.

“We must all understand that to drive the occupier from our land, we must create as many problems for the Russian state as possible on its own territory,” he said Thursday at a forum for military veterans. “This heroic work is becoming more precise, more long-range and more effective.”

President Vladimir Putin of Russia has sought to distance himself from loss of hundreds of square miles of Russian territory. Speaking during an online meeting with politicians, including the governors of the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions Thursday, the Russian leader described the territorial losses there as “security issues,” asserting that the “problems” in Kursk “are the responsibility of the security forces.”

Alexei Smirnov, the acting governor of Kursk region, reported that around 133,000 civilians had evacuated from border areas of the region, while around 20,000 still remained.

Ukrainian officials hope the battlefield calculations for the Russians will become more complicated as Ukraine’s forces threaten to encircle a large grouping of Russian soldiers now caught between the western reaches of the Seym River and the Ukrainian border.

This week, the last of three bridges spanning the meandering waterway was destroyed. Russia has responded by building temporary crossings, but they have been quickly targeted by Ukrainian artillery and drones, according to combat footage verified by military analysts.

Ukrainian officials have speculated that as many as 3,000 Russian soldiers could be trapped in a 270-square-mile pocket. It is impossible to independently verify how many Russians might be in the area.

Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk, the commander of the Ukrainian air force, said for the first time Friday that Ukraine was using its warplanes to fire guided bombs supplied by its Western allies to hit targets inside Russia as part of the Kursk operation.

He released one video showing the destruction of two of the crossings over the Seym this week and another showing an attack on a Russian base.

“This is what the air force airstrike with high-precision American GBU-39 bombs looks like on a platoon base in the Kursk region,” he wrote.
