Of course, we work with some of Perth's best suppliers here at Hillarys Yacht Club. We have compiled a list of our favourite vendors to work with, from make up artists to videographers. Please let us know if you'd like a copy, and we'll send one through.
This depends on the club’s function diary in the week leading up to your Wedding. If there is a function in your venue the night before your own, the room will base set once it has been vacated. If this is the case, yourselves and your suppliers should be able to access your venue from 9am on the day of your Wedding. If your venue has been base set prior to the day of your Wedding, because there were no functions the night before, you should be able to access it once base setting has been completed. We can check availability in the weeks leading up to your Wedding but please keep in mind that functions may be booked in with little notice. Please confirm bump in and out times with us.
If it rains on the day of your wedding, don't worry! We are able to hold your ceremony on our upstairs Harbour Room balcony - which is undercover and overlooks the stunning Hillarys Marina.
We are a bit hesitant when it comes to storing the beautiful creation that is your wedding cake. We do have fridges that we can put your cake in, but it is at your own risk, only because the fridges are used by staff members and suppliers. We won't be able to keep an eye on it before the Reception, but we will take every precaution if you go ahead with the storage.
We sure do. Our buffets are fully labeled, so guests with dietaries can see what they are able to eat from the items you have selected. For set menus, our chefs will provide a completely separate meal that suits all the different types of dietaries.

In Australia, there is a well-known yacht club called "Hillarys Yacht Club" located in the coastal suburb of Hillarys in Western Australia. Established in 1986, the Hillarys Yacht Club offers a range of facilities and services for its members, including boat storage and maintenance, training courses, social events, and competitive racing. The club has a strong emphasis on fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among its members, with a welcoming atmosphere for sailors of all ages and skill levels.
The Hillarys Yacht Club is also a popular venue for hosting events and functions, with stunning ocean views and versatile spaces suitable for weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or just looking to enjoy the beautiful Western Australian coastline, Hillarys Yacht Club offers something for everyone.
Hillary's Yacht Club, located in the coastal suburb of Hillarys in Western Australia, was once the epicenter of the elite society in the region. Established in the late 1980s, the club quickly became the go-to destination for the rich and famous in Western Australia, boasting a luxurious clubhouse, fine dining options, and a marina filled with opulent yachts. However, like many elite social institutions, the rise and fall of Hillary's Yacht Club was inevitable. In its heyday, membership at Hillary's Yacht Club was highly coveted, and the club's reputation as a haven for the wealthy and influential only grew stronger with time. Its exclusive events, such as the annual yacht race, drew crowds of spectators and cemented the club's place as a symbol of status and power in the region. However, as the 21st century dawned, the winds of change began to blow. The global financial crisis of 2008 had a significant impact on the Australian economy, and many of the country's wealthy elite found themselves facing financial hardships. The allure of lavish yacht parties and extravagant lifestyles began to lose its appeal, and many members of Hillary's Yacht Club started to reconsider their priorities.
Hillary's Yacht Club, located in the coastal suburb of Hillarys in Western Australia, has a long and storied history that spans over a century. Originally established in the Gilded Age, the club has grown and evolved over the years, becoming a beloved institution for sailing enthusiasts both locally and internationally. In this article, we'll take a look at the fascinating history of Hillary's Yacht Club and explore how it has evolved over time. The Early Years Hillary's Yacht Club was first established in the late 1980s, during the height of the Gilded Age. At the time, yachting was a popular pastime among the wealthy elite, and Hillary's Yacht Club was a place where they could gather, socialize, and participate in sailing competitions.

Ventura Keys, Ventura Harbor entrance, and the mouth of the Santa Clara River
Photos from the archives of photographer flash wheeler.
The Ventura Yacht Club, originally known as the Ventura County Boat Club, was organized in 1938. In 2013 we celebrated our 75th anniversary.
Ventura Yacht Club is one of the few clubs on the coast which owns its own clubhouse and slips. The club has a proud history of having started as a do-it-yourself type organization. The club’s official newsletter is the Forecast, which has been published monthly since 1940, one of the oldest continuous publications in yachting.
Ventura Yacht Club prides itself in accomplishments which range from an active racing and cruising program to being one of the prime moving forces in having the Ventura Harbor constructed. The club has long been supportive of the Ventura Port District and Ventura Harbor in matters ranging from lobbying efforts to get the harbor constructed –and reconstructed following devastating 1969 floods– and the breakwater built, to playing key roles in such activities as the annual Christmas Parade of Lights and other functions which help put the harbor’s best foot forward.
Many yacht club members have served on the Port District’s Board of Commissioners over the years and, in fact, the club was somewhat instrumental in the Port District having been formed in the first place. It can reasonably be said that the club has been a moving force in the development and growth of Ventura Harbor.
The club has nurtured many youth sailing programs and has supported youths in regional and national sailing championships.
Ventura Yacht Club in the early days (Photo: Flash Wheeler)
The club was incorporated in 1940 as a non-profit organization, with an original membership of 60.
From the beginning, one of the more serious aims of the members has been to work for better boating facilities in Ventura County. Among the early activities of the club was the construction of launching and mooring facilities at Hueneme Harbor in 1939. World War II halted this project, and efforts were then centered on clearing the snags from the coastal slough known as McGrath Lake in order to hold regattas for outboards and small sailboats and create an interest in boats and boating.
After the war, efforts were resumed to secure harbor facilities in Ventura County with particular emphasis on the Pierpont Bay area. During the campaign to secure a harbor, one of the highlights was constructing a model of the proposed harbor, which was used extensively for publicity purposes. These efforts, combined with others, resulted in the formation of the Ventura Port District, which eventually built the Ventura Marina.
A year or so after World War II ended, the City of Ventura allowed the club to use a city-owned building on the Ventura Pier where regular meetings were held. When freeway construction caused the demolition of the building, the meeting place was moved to the Ventura Recreation Center on Main Street.
The name of the club was changed from the Ventura County Boat Club to Ventura Yacht Club in November 1960.
The club secured a building site lease from the Ventura Port District in February 1965 and launched plans for the construction of the existing clubhouse.

The curved west side of the building, lined by windows, was designed by the architect Kenneth Hess to suggest the bridge of a large ship. Membership meetings are now held in the clubhouse completed in 1967 and are located on the peninsula at Ventura Harbor. Here, a well-rounded program of boating and social events fills the club’s yearly calendar.
In 1969, floods devastated the harbor in January and February, and for months the clubhouse was not accessible by land. Members used dinghies or other vessels to make their way to the clubhouse which was on what amounted to a storm-wracked island.
In June 1972, the lease was amended to include the water area. The addition of a small-boat hoist was completed in 1972, and in 1973 the club’s own docks were installed in front of the clubhouse. From the Ventura Port District, the club acquired docks, which had been salvaged from the 1969 floods.
The lease was amended again in May 1976, to allow expansion of the Club’s berthing facilities. In 1981, the slips were further upgraded with the complete reconstruction of D dock. The club now has berthing facilities for some 90 vessels.
Ventura Yacht Club has been a regular member of the Southern California Yachting Association and the United States Sailing Association for a number of years and is a charter member of the Association of Santa Barbara Channel Yacht Clubs.
The club annually conducts the Ventura Cup Regatta, which is the most prestigious yacht racing event in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and annually attracts the fastest boats and crews that area yacht clubs can muster. Every other year the club hosts the Ventura County to Newport Race. An active racing, cruising, and social program offers something for yachting-oriented people of all ages.
A twelve-member Board of Directors oversees the affairs of the Ventura Yacht Club Corporation. Directors are elected by the membership to serve three-year terms. Officers are elected annually.
Looming proudly over the grounds is a flagpole, which seems to be an appropriate reflection of Ventura Yacht Club. The flagpole is old and proud (the 55-foot mast stood at the old Oxnard High School site on C Street from the early 1900s) strong and distinctive. It has been maintained and tended to by a caring yacht club, whose burgee it proudly flies.

The city is looking at purchasing an above ground temporary pool.
The main building that includes the locker rooms is “structurally unsound,” the diving tower shows cracking throughout and the stairs leading up to the tower’s different platforms are rusted and corroded. The concrete bleachers have also started to separate and the canopy overhang above poses a fall risk as pieces of the roof have started to break down.
On Tuesday night, the Santa Clara City Council voted unanimously to try to find a way to reopen two of the three pools — a shallower pool largely used by learn-to-swim programs and the 50-meter by 25-yard lap pool — while they search for funding and deliberate on whether to rebuild, redesign or look for another location to construct a new swim center.
The council was met with pleas for help from the community groups that use the facility including Santa Clara Swim Club, Santa Clara Diving and the Santa Clara Aquamaids. Since the closure nearly three weeks ago, the teams have been frantically searching for pool space that sometimes doesn’t exist, impacting swimmers and divers’ training schedules — some of whom are preparing for Olympic trials this summer.
Nicholas Sifferman, a national level swimmer for Santa Clara Swim Club who has swam at the center for 12 years, said the facility has been held together by “duct tape and a few prayers.”

Damage can be seen on a structure at the George F. Haines International Swim Center which is closed after a recent report deemed the facility unsafe in Santa Clara, Calif., on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024. (Shae Hammond/Bay Area News Group)
“It is disheartening to witness the legacy of the swim club and the reputation of our city being compromised by the neglect of this facility,” he told the council. “The ISC, once a point of pride, now stands as a symbol of our city’s own disregard for its history and the community that cherishes it.”
The closure of the swim center was felt far beyond Santa Clara, or even California’s, boundaries. Santa Clara Swim Club coach Dave Meck, who has coached the team for nearly three decades, said he received calls of condolences from people in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia and Brazil.
The facility, and the teams that use it, are a part of aquatics history. Twenty-three world records have been set in the pool — including one by Michael Phelps. Haines, whom the swim center was renamed for in 2001, was the founding coach of Santa Clara Swim Club and is considered one of the most successful coaches in the sport. Since the 1950s, the club has produced 80 Olympians who have won 51 medals at games.
The Santa Clara Aquamaids, an artistic swimming team, have also put the city on the map. Coach Chris Carver trained the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic teams in the Mission City, and the Aquamaids have produced 30 Olympians in the last 28 years.
The history and significance of the International Swim Center not just to elite athletes, but to the community as well, was emphasized by several dozen parents, coaches, divers and swimmers on Tuesday night.
Mayor Lisa Gillmor, whose own children learned to swim at the facility, said she was “embarrassed” by its state.
“I don’t want to see that die,” she said of the swim center. “It’s a huge part of who we are and it’s the fabric of our community.”
Because the building that houses the locker rooms and bathrooms is unstable, Gillmor suggested bringing in portables to fill the gap so at least some of the swimmers can get back into the swim center.
The divers and the Aquamaids, who practice in the diving well, however, will have to continue to search for pool time elsewhere for now.
Consultants with LPA Inc. recommended closing the diving well not just because of the cracked diving tower that stands above it, but because the pool itself has structural concerns. LPA Managing Director Steven Key said that the viewing area — an underground section with windows looking into the pool — has cracks in the walls and signs of corrosion. If it were to break, he said “the pool water could actually suck you out into this area.”
With little-to-no chances of the diving well reopening, Santa Clara Diving head coach Todd Spohn told The Mercury News that “it could be the thing that causes us to fold.”
The team has 80 divers and in the last several weeks they’ve struggled to find pools in the South Bay with a 3-meter diving board. Last weekend, the team drove all the way to Novato in Marin County to practice.
“We’re kind of losing our training base so the kids aren’t feeling very confident about their diving,” Spohn said.
The city is also exploring purchasing a temporary 50-meter pool and diving well. The above ground pools have been used in the U.S. Olympic trials in recent years because they can be installed anywhere. City Manager Jovan Grogan said it could cost $2 million on the low end for one pool, and if Santa Clara can’t find one that’s already existing, it could take a year to purchase it.
With a plan in place to address short-term issues, Santa Clara is looking at the November 2024 ballot for a potential bond measure to fund a new facility. The city’s infrastructure needs have been piling up for years, resulting in at least $571 million in unfunded maintenance for parks, fire stations, streets and other community buildings. Santa Clara, though, only has $23.9 million in its current capital reserve for projects of this sort.
For now, some of the groups that use the International Swim Center are cautiously optimistic.
Santa Clara Swim Club head coach Kevin Zacher said in an interview that he thinks “our community feels some hope” and that he felt the “city understands the importance of the swim center and wants to preserve it.”
The future of the swim center, though, is still uncertain.
“This has come up before and there’s been talk and no action,” Zacher said. “We need action.”
