Set sail for quilting paradise with nautical fabrics at Missouri Star! Whether you are looking for beach themed fabric by the yard, ocean fabric with your favorite sea creatures, or nautical themed quilt patterns, you’ll find everything you need to celebrate the sand and the sea in your next project here. These themes are closely related, but each has specific motifs and colors associated with them.

Nautical fabric typically refers to fabric designs that feature maritime motifs such as sailboats, anchors, ropes, shells, compasses, lighthouses, and other elements associated with the sea. You’ll find nautical fabric by the yard, panels, and precuts in various shades of blue and white, resembling the colors of the ocean and sky. Of course, there's also nautical fabric batiks, but also prints, panels, and nautical quilt patterns to enjoy. Try your favorite nautical fabrics in the adorable Sail Away quilt block using the Quilt Snips tutorial below!

Beach fabrics are inspired more by coastal landscapes, rolling waves, palm trees, and seashells. The colors in beach fabrics tend to include shades of blue for the sea and sky, sandy beige or tan for beaches, and accents of green for coastal vegetation. 

You’ll find plenty of beach themed fabric by the yard, precuts, and beach fabric panels for your coastal creations at Missouri Star! In addition to beach fabric by the yard, we also offer beach themed quilt patterns in a variety of styles. In the free quilt tutorial below, Jenny Doan shows how to make the Sea Glass quilt using the hourglass quilt block and precut layer cake squares.

Ocean fabrics typically feature designs inspired by marine life and oceanic scenery, such as fish, dolphins, whales, seahorses, and turtles, as well as images of coral reefs, seashells, and waves. Common colors found in ocean fabrics include various shades of blue and green to represent the colors of the ocean, along with sandy beige and white for beaches and seashores. Sometimes, accent colors such as coral pink or bright yellow may be included to add visual interest. 

You will find many options to choose from in ocean fabric by the yard and precuts; many of these collections also include stunning ocean fabric panels which can serve as the focal point of your quilt or project. Scandinavian Christmas – Blue and White Option

Since its release back on August 15th we’ve had a ton of people get on board to participate in the Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along , which is really exciting and flattering too! THANK YOU to everyone who ordered your patterns, triangle paper, and fabric right away! My shipping department is currently a sea of red and white, and everyone is hard at work getting your packages out the door as we speak.

As for the rest of you, I know that there are still some people on the fence about participating in this QAL, and that’s ok too. I do have to say, however, that if the reason you haven’t pulled the trigger yet is because Santa isn’t your thing, or maybe red and white doesn’t do anything for you, I have another option to consider! Thanks to several of you who asked if this quilt would look good done in blue and white rather than red and white, I’ve decided to offer a kit in that colorway as well!

Remember, this QAL allows you to “build” your quilt kit however it works best for you, depending on what you need and how you want your quilt to look. There are a couple of “kit options” for you to choose from for the blue version as well. They are as follows:

– OPTION ONE – Blue Fabric Bundle – $215.00: This convenient bundle includes all fabrics needed for the quilt blocks. It totals almost 15 yards of my “Snowman Gatherings” fabric and includes the “Sam the Snowman” panel (does not include fabric for the background).

– OPTION TWO – Background Only – $45.00: In total, you will be needing five yards of background fabric to help create your blocks (if you would like to use the same fabric that I did (Porcelain 9900 182 Bella) , we have that option available for you as well). *If you prefer to choose your own background or would rather use something from your stash, you will not need to purchase the background option.

– PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to put borders on your quilt, use a different size sashing, or to set your quilt differently than the quilt pattern is designed, you may need to purchase more background fabric at a later date (which is why we chose to use a Bella Solid).

– TRIANGLE PAPER – $21.00: I have put together a special Scandinavian Christmas Triangle Paper Packet for your convenience. The packet includes every type of triangle paper that you will need, plus a few extra sheets of each in case you make a mistake.

You now have just a couple of days before the next block of the Scandinavian Christmas Quilt-Along releases this Thursday, August 29th , 2024 by 5:00 p.m. CST. That two weeks has flown by! I have all the flying geese and cat’s cradle units made for my blocks, but I need to sew them together. Thank you for hosting these quilt alongside, Lisa. ❤ I enjoy the challenge and appreciate all of the support you and your team provide.

I am so excited to see a blue and white bundle for this sewalong – I was wanting to be brave enough to try it, but hadn’t quite made that committment yet……now I am pretty sure I will order this bundle and then see if I can find the time to join in. Thank you Lisa and everyone at PG!!

Palouse Patchers

Monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month, September through December, and February through June.  We meet at the   1912 Center, Great Room.  Social hour begins at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7PM.

Palouse Patchers is a quilting group based in the Inland Pacific Northwest community of Moscow, Idaho. We have approximately 175 members of all ages, who come from the surrounding communities of the Palouse region of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho. The Palouse is a region of rolling hills covered in their own patchwork of farmlands.

Palouse Patchers Quilt Show

Moscow, ID --A family-friendly event is the Palouse Patchers’ annual Quilt Show Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, April 14, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Latah County Fairgrounds Event Center, 1021 Harold Street, in Moscow.This year’s theme is “Come Fly With Me.” Over 200 quilts are expected.The quilts are not for sale, but attendees can view quilts that won ribbons deemed best for various categories, like piecing, hand or machine quilting, applique, etc.Attendees are invited to vote for the People’s Choice award.

Anyone can buy a chance to win a queen-sized raffle quilt.This year’s quilt features well known flying geese quilt blocks in a dramatic diagonal setting with birds flying upwards across the quilt.The pleasing blue and brown colors have generated excitement from many eager to win. The winning ticket will be drawn at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, but you do not need to be present to win.

The show has been an annual hit with families and community members since 1981 and is a showcase for experienced regional quilters as well as beginners and youth. Quilts of all sizes and styles, made by hand and machine, are hung throughout the event hall with vendor booths around the edges. Ten stores will be selling fabric, notions, patterns, tools and give free advice.

Free cookies and refreshments will be in the classroom. The fee to enter is $5.00 for the day, or $3.00 for seniors and children under 10. Groups can request a discount by contacting Debbie Goetz at [email protected].

One quilter will be awarded a monetary prize from the Janet Frietag Fund if they enter works that follow the theme of “This Challenge is for the Birds!”“The world is full of birds of all shapes and sizes, goofy and realistic, so we expect some creative entries,” said Nancy Mack, Quilt Show promotions chair.Guild members may also vie for the Quilt Show’s Co-chair’s Challenge called “Take Flight” that could feature any form of flight.
