About the Riverboat on the Potomac
Past history of riverboat: .
Look no further than the s hore of the Potomac River! Tom and Penny Flanagan purchased the Old Reno and renamed it "Riverboat on the Potomac". In 1992, it was the hub of activity with the Maryland and Virginia lottery. They brought with them Keno (Maryland Lottery), which is as Tom said, "Keno is more like Bingo". On February 9, 1994, they received their license for Off Track Betting, the horses and the business took off like a thoroughbred heading for the finish line! Tom and Penny have enjoyed a great relationship with the Town of Colonial Beach and their patrons for many years. A town dubbed, "Little Las Vegas" by the "Saturday Evening Post", was coming back to life with the new offerings at the Riverboat. While away on vacation, catastrophe struck, Hurricane Isabel destroyed the building on September 18, 2003. Determined to rebuild, Penny stated, "It was Tom's dream; because he was the Riverboat." After many months of red tape, the first test pilings were finally completed in late 2004. Unfortunately, Tom did not live to see the completion of the new building.
The Current owners, Maruthi Prasad Veeramarchnani and Gagandeep Suri purchased the Riverboat on the Potomac with a vision to make sure the Historic icon continues to be a part of Colonial Beach. They are working to bring back the glory it had in its historic past. We are back bigger and better than ever! All dining rooms and the banquet room have the sought after panoramic views of the Potomac River.
No matter how you arrive, by boat, golf cart, helicopter, motorcycle, car or truck, there is multiple access which is the key at this location! Situated on the Potomac River in Colonial Beach, the Riverboat has something for everyone. Located on the boardwalk they are within proximity to Hotels, B&B’s and shopping,
The Riverboat is located on the beach (Virginia) and over of the Potomac River (Maryland). The Riverboat offers Off-track betting, Keno, Maryland and Virginia lottery and to top it off with great food, a fun atmosphere, outside dining and gorgeous views of the Potomac River!

Thoroughly disgusted with the service at this place. Server was clueless, disorganized, and inattentive. That's just the tip of the iceberg. It took over an hour to get our food and almost that long to get drinks. On to the main event - a group of rude idiots, one absolutely horrendous a-hole specifically, RUINED the entire show. I cannot imagine how miserable of a person you have to be completely trash everyone's evening. The management of this place did NOTHING to control the situation and literally allowed it to happen. I guarantee we will never return to this place and I'll make sure to advise everyone else to avoid it also.
We had a great Thanksgiving lunch at this restaurant they had a special Thanksgiving dinner it was great and the price was very low for the amount of food we recieved. Our server was amazing she was very friendly and helpful we sat at their terrace at first but it was too windy when we asked to go I side she was happy to move us inside. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back for my next trip to Colonial Beach. You guys ROCK!!!!!
We went to seat ourselves and there wasn't a clean seat in the place. When we saw a busboy cleaning off a table he said it was reserved for someone else. I went to use the bathroom and it smelled like feces and there was a cockroach upside down on the floor surrounded by a lot of tissue. No service, dirty restroom, dirty tables, no seating available. Didn't want to risk eating there and getting sick. If I could I would put 0 stars.
We enjoyed lunch here. Our server, Heather, was so sweet and awesome. The view is beautiful. Would definitely recommend a visit. Both the Virginia and Maryland sides of the restaurant.
Good location, but wish we had gone somewhere else for many reasons.... We went in about brunch time to get a late breakfast. There was ONE PERSON in the whole place (which really should have been a sign...), at the bar drinking margaritas on a Tuesday morning. We ordered Bloody Mary's to start as we looked over the menu. It took 15+ minutes to get them. And they really were not worth the wait or $7. Saying they were mediocre would be over selling them. And I am really unsure if they had alcohol at all, or if it was just tomato juice with a garnish. So we finally get to order, I get Chesapeake Eggs Benedict. I ask if I could have hush puppies with mine instead of home fries, and if they could come out first. Waitress says no problem. 15+ minutes later we get the hush puppies, and the weren't awful. 5+ minutes after that we get our meals. And mine is DEFINITELY not right. There is no crab, no old bay, and the hollandaise sauce is the consistency of mustard. When the waitress finally comes back to check on us, I tell her I don't think mine is right. She then said crab was extra. When I asked how this was a "Chesapeake" eggs Benedict, she looked confused and walked away. She did bring back crab for my meal tho. When we finally get the bill, I am surprised to see there is a $5 charge for hush puppies in Addition to our meals and drinks. I asked the waitress if they came with our meal why were we being charged extra? She said they "would have been more added to the meal, so I saved you money". WTH??? There was no mention of it being an up charge. At this point I was honestly so irritated with the whole experience we just paid the bill and left. I do not recommend this place at all. It was an awful experience and expensive. I really wish we'd gone somewhere else.
The food was mediocre at best. Crab dip and hush puppies were good but the salads were from a bag and the shrimp was delayed due to not being thawed out enough for it to be served when other meals were served. The food was way over priced for the quality. The waitress was nice but I would not recommend eating here.
We came here n Saturday, didn't seem too busy but tables stated they were understaffed... we got crab cakes and flounder but had to wait for our food for an hour. The food was not the best BUT our server was amazing. She was friendly and had smile on her face the whole time.
Enter through the Boardwalk on Colonial Beach, sits over the Potomac River so technically in Maryland. Offers off track betting for horse races and a pretty strong drink at the bar. That's where the enchantment ends with me. All the employees are miserable and are quite vocal about it. Bathrooms were clean but oddly decorated.
Sits in the river, so off track betting and Maryland lottery available.

We're very disappointed to see your review, Dianne. This is certainly not the standard for Riverboat and we'll use your review to improve for the future with our staff. We pride ourselves on great service and food. We hope you will join us again in the future. We're glad you enjoy the drinks and betting. Best, Penny F., Owner
Great location right on the boardwalk with a great view. This is the gambling scene at Potomac Beach. We were there around 9 p.m. during the Potomac River Festival, and it was dead. Perhaps 9 p.m. is too early, but that's when the karaoke was supposed to start. We didn't see any karaoke. It might've been more fun with a group of friends who were drinking and gambling, but for just my sister and me, we weren't impressed. The exterior is really quite an eyesore, too.

Thanks for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, Lisa. We're disappointed to hear that the atmosphere wasn't what you were expecting during your visit. We pride ourselves on being a great place to grab a bite and enjoy some gambling. We don't currently offer karaoke and we're sorry about the miscommunication. We hope you will give us another chance to prove that to you. We're glad to hear you like the boardwalk. Best, Penny F., Owner
The view at the Riverboat is spectacular. I wish I could say the same about the rest of our experience. We visited on a beautiful Saturday afternoon when there was hardly anyone around. The outdoor seating area was great. The weather was gorgeous and the view was to die for. I could have sat there for hours talking in the sights. The food was okay. The seafood was good, as was my Reuben. However, the soup and vegetables tasted like they had come from a can, with the vegetable (green beans) looking pathetic and tasting 'funky.' My wife could not eat them. The price of the vegetables was removed from our bill, but only the waitress apologized. It would have been more appropriate if the manager had come and talked with us. What happened after dinner sealed the deal. My wife used the ladies room and recognized one of the other waitresses also using the facilities. This person left and returned to work without washing her hands. We also noticed this waitress smoking outside the main entrance of the building (less than 25 feet from the front door) upon our arrival. Needless to say, we will not be visiting the Riverboat again.

Spend a weekend exploring the Southern portion of one of Virginia's oldest regions.

Steeped in history and oysters, the Northern Neck has been a beloved vacation spot for Richmonders and Virginians for generations. But it's caught the attention of a larger audience throughout the South and mid-Atlantic. With a string of waterfront and rural towns for exploring, restaurants that are serving flavors straight out of the Chesapeake Bay and the Rappahannock River, and countless charming shops, there's enough to keep travelers bouncing around for a weekend, if not a week.
While the area is known for old school oystermen and sailing, recent years have brought new shops and businesses to the region, appealing to those looking for experiences that feel both modern and true to the flavor of the area.
"There is a beautiful influx of creative, entrepreneurial, and expansive thinkers that have moved to the area and opened their own businesses," says Ashley Gerczak, Founder of Blue Honey , a yoga, meditation and pilates collective. She's one of several business owners that's opened up shop right in town in Irvington, bringing a breath of fresh air to those visiting the area.
Want to explore the Northern Neck for yourself? Here's where we'd recommend staying, eating, playing, and shopping during a visit that includes Northern Neck highlights in Irvington, White Stone, Kilmarnock, and Weems.
Stay On The Northern Neck
Book a weekend at the iconic tides inn.
The Tides Inn is a historic Virginia resort that's a central part of many families' memories through the generations. Located on Carter's Creek in Irvington, the Tides underwent a massive renovation over the last several years, and rooms are now updated in a classic, coastal style. The hotel's lawn is one of the most serene spots in the area, perfect for relaxing with a cocktail in one of the adirondack chairs. From the spa to the activities, which include everything from beekeeping to boat tours, watercolor painting, and golf, it's easy to spend your entire weekend here if that's your plan. You can also hop on one of the bikes to take a spin into town.

Cozy Up At The Hope & Glory Inn
A bed and breakfast with cozy rooms and darling cottages, the Hope & Glory Inn puts you right in the heart of small town Irvington. There's a relaxing saltwater pool hidden away behind the inn, and a garden bath which is, yes, a clawfoot tub in a garden, is a surprising and restorative way to end a day. The inn's restaurant, The Colonnade, is a fine dining experience in a historic space with Chef Meseret Crockett at the helm.

Indulge In Locally Inspired Dishes At Adrift
Adrift's casually elevated menu changes often, which means it's worth a stop each time you're in town. Perennial favorites include shrimp and grits, international-inspired takes on dishes like wings and soft shell crab, and a baked version of Steamboat Wharf Oyster Co.'s oysters, which are some of the best in the area.
Adrift is also open as Moor for lunch Wednesday to Saturday, serving sandwiches, bites, and gourmet groceries.

Sit Down For Fine Dining At Salt And Meadow
The overall attitude of the Northern Neck may be casual, but you can find seasonal fine dining at the newly opened Salt and Meadow. From the truffle risotto to the pan seared duck to the Virginia blue crab agnolotti, every dish is a standout. Save room for dessert—the chocolate stout cake is one you'll dream about for days.
tidesinn.com . 480 King Carter Dr, Irvington, VA 22480
What To Do On The Northern Neck
Go on an oyster tour with the tides inn's resident ecologist.
Oysters are an integral part of both the ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay and the culture of the Northern Neck. One oyster can filter 50 gallons of water per day, and the regrowth of the population is making an immeasurable impact on the health of the area's waterways.
William Smiley is the Tides Inn's Resident Ecologist, and he's played a critical role in rebuilding the oyster beds surrounding the property. He leads groups on tours of the work that's being done to farm oysters and boost their numbers, then takes them back to the dock for an oyster roast to taste the harvest that comes out of the river.
Get Out On The Water
The best way to see the Northern Neck is, of course, from the water. Whether you charter a boat or rent a kayak, getting out on the water gives you a better perspective on the landscape of the region. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of everyone's favorite neighbors—the dolphin pods that move through the Rappahannock River during the summer.

River North, especially the area surrounding Hubbard Street, is one of Downtown Chicago’s busiest neighborhoods at night. Tourists and locals alike fill the bars, clubs, and restaurants with herds weaving in and out of traffic crawling to their next destination.
The neighborhood’s latest addition is a joint venture between former Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler, country singer-songwriter Chase Rice, and former Chicago Bear Roquan Smith. The trio has opened the third location of Welcome to the Farm , a country music venue and club with locations in St. Petersburg, Florida and Cleveland. The celebrities are backed by Forward Hospitality Group , a Cleveland outfit that owns Good Night John Boy in West Loop. Fans of Barstool Sports may know one of the principals at Forward, Dante Deiana. Deiana’s a DJ and writer for the infamous media company.
They’ve remodeled the former Fremont , keeping the retractable roof and modernizing the space which has a stage for small concerts and room for 300. They’ll offer bottle service late into the night. But for folks into food, country music often goes well with smoked meats , and on the restaurant side they’ll serve brisket nachos, smoked chicken wings, pulled pork sandwiches (a Cuban served Miami style also uses the pork), plus spare ribs, short ribs, turkey, and sausage. Fried chicken and tenders are on the menu, as well. Forward Executive Chef Raheem Sealey debuted the menu in Florida at Drinking Pig BBQ, and now he brings his meats and treats up north.
Butler, a perennial All-Star, also played in Minnesota and Philadelphia before finding at home with the Miami Heat. He his own coffee company. He launched BIGFACE in 2020 during the pandemic, when the NBA brought all its playoff teams to Orlando, Florida to limit travel and the spread of COVID. The Bubble and its restrictions made it hard for players and coaches to find a good cup of coffee, so Butler seized the opportunity. For the first time ever, customers will be able to taste BIGFACE drinks in a restaurant setting. A news release touts “new specialty coffee products from Butler’s coffee brand BIGFACE that are available to consume while taking in the scene.”
Check out the space and some of the menu items below.
Welcome to the Farm , 15 W. Illinois Street, (312) 833-2080, open noon on weekdays, and 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday; kitchen open until 1 a.m.
There are plenty of screens on the side.
