VIEWINGS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY Exterior Striking throughout, this 2021 Mobilvetta K-Yacht 79 positions a drop down overcab bed, central washroom, fixed island bed to the rear and a large garage. Italian built, the K-Yacht is of very high quality and offers a luxurious feel. Externally you have a streamlined A-class body-shape, with a integrated graphics scheme and 16 inch alloy wheels. LED daytime running lights improve the look even further. Conveniently, Mobilvetta have positioned the habitation door on the UK side, along with the cab door too. Both are programmed into the central locking system, for very good levels of security. Along with the habitation door, the nearside houses a couple of storage lockers, an external BBQ point and the Fiamma roll out awning. The large garage is accessed either-side and is a massive asset if you wish to tour in Europe. The build of the 79 is timber-free, with GRP-clad bodywork being the main part of it's construction. A roof-mounted solar panel is fitted and completes the list of external specification. Cab Area The internal design of the Mobilvetta is modern and sumptuous, with a premium upholstery scheme and quality woodwork throughout. Lighting is excellent, with natural sources and an abundance of LED options throughout. Moving to the cab area you will see that twin seats are housed, both of which have the ability to swivel and add to the lounge facility behind. There are carbon-fibre style trims in the area, as well as a piano black and bronze finish on the dashboard, which provides a real sense of quality. Specification is very good too, you have: ABS, power steering, electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control, climate control, 2 x 12v sockets, USB point, leather multi-function steering wheel, storage solutions, cab blinds and a multimedia system, including satellite navigation, bluetooth connectivity and your reversing camera. The base vehicle of the K-Yacht is the Fiat Ducato 2.3 150bhp, which has covered just 3,700 miles from new and is further enhanced with the excellent 9-speed automatic gearbox. Folding the cab seats forward, you will be able to pull down the double bed, which offers an excellent nights sleep. The bed itself has not been used and still has the original packaging. There is a roof-light to provide ambience and fresh air, whilst a couple of reading LED's are on the right hand side. Curtains enclose the area. Lounge The lounge is very well thought-out, with an L-shaped sofa and a side seat. The forward facing section of the L-shape is equipped with two three-point seat-belts, allowing passengers of all ages to travel. With the addition of the cab seats rotating, six can easily be housed. For dining there is a large table, whilst storage facilities can be found within overhead lockers and space beneath the seating. Above the habitation door you have a touchscreen control panel, and the Truma heating control panel, both of which are user friendly. Kitchen The kitchen is split into two sections across the motorhome, and is equipped with high quality appliances. On the offside you have a two-burner hob and an induction hob, whilst an extractor fan is found above. On the left hand side there is a circular sink, with a chrome mixer tap. Drawers, lockers and cupboards are found here too, providing good levels of storage. Directly opposite is a Dometic oven/grill unit, with a Thetford dual-fuel fridge freezer positioned below. Bedroom The fixed island bed is one of the main highlights of the 79's layout. Fitted with a hugely comfortable mattress, you are assured of an excellent night's sleep. The bed is also electrically adjustable and can raise/lower in order to create more space within the garage. Each occupant gets their own reading light, overhead locker and wardrobe. Windows either-side allow lots of natural light to flow in, whilst a roof-light is present too. If you wish to install a television, there is a wall-mounted bracket located centrally. Washroom The washroom is positioned between the kitchen and the bedroom, and offers the more desirable 'separate shower' configuration. On the offside there is a Thetford electric flush toilet, whilst the wash basin is found centrally and has a chrome mixer tap, along with a vanity unit below. The shower itself is on the nearside and has a striking light effect along with chrome fittings.

Review: Mobilvetta K-yacht 79

Rob Axton from Country RV in Mount Maunganui has a problem. Although, as far as problems go, it’s quite a good one.

He ordered the company’s first new Mobilvetta A-Class motorhome last November and subsequently a few more this year. Now at the midway point in 2017, he’s completely sold out.

Mobilvetta -K-Yacht -79-2

Like a competition-class catamaran, Country RV’s first A-Class RV brand has gotten off to what can only be described as a flying start. “I think our customers see in them what we saw in them when we first investigated bringing Mobilvetta to New Zealand,” he says.

“When I first saw one, I was impressed. I loved the layout options, I loved the way the manufacturer has incorporated a nautical theme into the interior, and the quality of the cabinetry and fittings is obvious from the moment you step through the door.”

Rob has been in the industry since he was 18; the last 12 years have been spent in New Zealand. With Country RV and Country Caravan’s lengthy joint history of not only selling recreational vehicles but also servicing and repairing them, Rob is a pretty sound judge of what constitutes a well-made camper.

Mobilvetta, he says, with its 100 percent wood-free, composite resin fibreglass construction, its use of aluminium reinforcing, and emphasis on quality iTech insulation and double-glazing, more than fits the bill.

The Mobilvetta range

Mobilvetta is part of the Trigano Group and a familiar name on Europe’s highways, but this is the first time Kiwi motorhomers have had a chance to check out the range.

And the full range will be available, too. Country RV is in the process of landing more 79, 80, and 85 models. As the name suggests, the K-Yacht designation signifies a marine theme to the interior.

Mobilvetta -K-Yacht -79-3

How do the three models compare? Size-wise there isn’t a lot in it (the 80 is the shortest at 6990mm, the 79 is 7430mm, with the 85 a shade shorter than that), so the differences mainly come down to the layout.

The 79 features an interesting twist in that the bathroom is encountered as you move through the motorhome to the rear, before the bedroom. This might sound slightly discombobulating on paper, but in practice, it works rather well. Slide the partition door aside, separating living from sleeping quarters and you’re faced with a tasteful basin mounted in solid cabinetry immediately ahead, while a roomy shower box hidden behind frosted doors sits to the left and the toilet to the right.

Mobilvetta -K-Yacht -79-9

Curving stairs giving access to each side of the centrally-mounted queen bed reinforce the superyacht atmos, as does the curved bathroom and kitchen cabinetry, wood panelling, and subtly recessed lighting, ensuring the whole cabin is nice and bright when you need it to be.

Each side of the 79 model’s rear bed features a generous side table, augmented with cubbies above. The Mobilvetta 85 swaps the queen for two single beds accessed via centrally-mounted stairs. Each model features a supplementary auto drop-down double bed at the front as well, which is tucked neatly away above the front living space.

The Mobilvetta 80 switches a north-south queen configuration for an east-west bed, or you can ditch the fixed beds altogether and go for twin drop-downs front and rear, which gives 80 model owners the ability to configure a permanent rear-lounge featuring generous U-shaped seating instead.

The overview

Fiat’s dependable Ducato takes the strain for all three Mobilvetta models. Country RV has ensured every Kiwi-bound version features Fiat’s Euro 6-compliant 150hp turbo diesel.

Mobilvetta models receive a Winter Pack preparation, which includes an insulated wastewater tank, underfloor heating, and a Truma iNet-ready Combi 6 gas water heating system. All house controls are accessed through a simple-to-use LCD touchscreen panel. Satellite dishes, 130W solar panels, LED lighting, exterior shower and barbecue connectors, and heavy-duty flyscreens and blinds are all on the standard fitment list.

Mobilvetta -K-Yacht -79-8

Rob says all Mobilvetta models sold by Country RV are covered by a five-year bodyshell water ingress guarantee and a two-year habitation guarantee, which covers replacement parts and labour costs for anything that needs to be fixed during this time after normal use.

Another bonus is the Mobilvetta’s 2000kg braked towing capacity, meaning a boat or an A-framed vehicle coming along for the ride is a viable option.

A large garage

While we’re at the rear of the Mobilvetta 79, it’s worth noting the large garage that is a feature of both this and the Mobilvetta 85. It’s the reason these models’ rear beds are raised, and I’m pretty certain life on the road will be all the better for it. The manufacturer reckons a full-size scooter will fit in here, although if you make use of the Mobilvetta’s towing ability (or mount a bike rack on the rear), the large garage area will swallow everything else whole.

Incidentally, thanks to clever packaging inside, you needn’t feel like you’re going to wake up each morning only to start the day by bumping your head on the ceiling. It’s surprising how workable raised beds are in the right vehicle, and the Mobilvetta certainly looks to be one of those.

Inside and out, the Mobilvetta 79 ticks plenty of boxes. This is a quality A-Class vehicle in the truest sense. The ability to configure just the right living and sleeping setup to suit, all the while retaining quality craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout, makes it easy to see why Rob Axton and his team knew they were onto something special here.

My only advice would be to get in quick if you’re after a close-up look. The way the order book has been filling over the last six months, Country RV probably has more ‘good problems’ to contend with in the months ahead.

Mobilvetta K-Yacht MH79 Tekno Line motorhome review

Published in Caravan Guard News , Motorhome Reviews on 23/03/2017   - 12 Comments

Affordable Italian style machine

Maybe you should have a closer look at the latest Mobilvetta A-class motorhomes before trying to guess their prices. They look a million euros, but their actual cost here in the UK is considerably less… until we finally leave Europe, of course. Then, who knows? Suffice to say the talk is already of significant price hikes for all motorhomes – wherever they’re made – from season 2018 onwards.

Mobilvetta 79 Exterior

It’s timely, then, to take the opportunity to get closer to this A-class from Italy. Part of an initial three-model range for the UK, it’s got a distinctive enough look to prepare you for an equally individualistic interior… it’s not for nothing that Mobilvetta uses the word yacht in the names of its Tekno Lines.

Mobilvetta 79 Cab

The base vehicle is Fiat’s almost ubiquitous Ducato, with the 2.3-litre, Euro 6, 150bhp engine as standard, with Comfort-Matic available as an option should you want automatic transmission. Around the Ducato’s running gear, Mobilvetta adds a coachbuilt body that uses all the latest build techniques. It’s a timber-free construction, with inner and outer walls in GRP as well as a curve to the top on the exterior that’s more normal on super-premium motorhomes of this ilk. A five-year warranty covers water ingress. Lower skirting in aluminium and black alloy wheels contribute to a very modern, sleek leisure vehicle.

Mobilvetta 79 Interior

Inside, the MH79 has a typical – and increasingly popular – floorplan of a front lounge and a rear island bed with shower and toilet at its foot in a washroom area that spreads across the width of the vehicle.

Mobilvetta 79 Lounge seating

Over the lounge, there’s a typical drop-down double bed, too, making this a genuine four-berth. Alternatively, for couples who like big, comfy sleeping areas to themselves a format like this also makes perfect sense.

Mobilvetta 79 Double Bed

The island bed has electrical operation, meaning you can raise it should you wish to optimise storage space in the garage area below, which can be easily accessed from both sides. Lowering it makes it all the easier to get into bed at night without resorting to steps or a ladder.

Mobilvetta 79 Basin

Centre-‘van is taken up by the kitchen. Its L-shape makes the most of the space for both storage and worktop. Kit starts with a Dometic three-ring hob tucked in the left-hand corner and a deep circular sink opposite, and a waste bin set into the worktop between. Other details include a kitchen roll holder and clips on rails. Plus, there are soft-close drawers and good locker space.

Mobilvetta 79 Kitchen

Across from the main kitchen unit, there’s a 149-litre Thetford fridge/freezer with automatic energy selection, plus a Dometic grill/oven, as well as extra storage thanks to a tall slide-out locker with metal baskets.

Mobilvetta 79 Garage

Sliding doors give privacy to the washroom. There’s a “salad bowl” basin in the centre here, with the shower cubicle on the offside and a swivel-bowl toilet on the opposite side. Storage includes lockers under the basin and beyond, and above the toilet.

The standard specification is simply awesome. Everything you can see here, plus fittings like the 130Watt solar panel, underfloor heating, external sockets (gas, mains electric and shower), rear-view camera and handling aids (Traction Plus, Hill Assist and Hill Descent) are included in the price. You’ll want a tracking system, however. At the time of writing, there was also a special offer of a HAL-Locate with two-year subscription, for £599 – some of which will be offset by a reduction in your insurance premium.

Do consider the chassis upgrade option, too. If your driving licence allows, the 3,650kg rebadge ups the payload to a more respectable 493kg.

Verdict : Blends style and quality with a price that’s also easy on the eye

Plus : Oodles of equipment, stylish looks inside and out, well priced

Minus : Limited payload on standard chassis

In-a-nutshell : A-class, Italian class

There’s more information on the K-Yacht range on the Marquis Leisure website www.marquisleisure.co.uk . Find out more about insuring this or your current motorhome on our motorhome insurance discounts page.

We also have a mobilvetta k yacht79 and it has spent more time in the repair workshop than on our drive, we have not had a holiday where a problem has not arisen. Starting with the first trip the front skylight leaked, then the springs broke only having done 1000 miles, then the locks on the garage door failed, the other roof lights all leaked, the engine management light came on, the aftersales at the dealership are hopeless. I have spoken to the Group After care manager and he is as unhelpful as the dealership, once they have your money they do not seem interested. The faults so far are being repaired but to say we have lost faith in the motorhome is an understatement, I wish we had not brought it. It has spent more times on the back of a recovery truck than on the road, I only thank goodness that we have caravan guard as our insurer and breakdown recovery as they have been absolutely brilliant and all the breakdown garages that have seen us at our most traumatic and upsetting times have been nothing but fantastic and helpful.

Sorry to hear about the problems you’ve had with your motorhome but thank you for the excellent feedback on our service and breakdown provider.

To all keep away from Tekno 79 that was on tv I have reports and it shocking got my money back ,, load of rubbish

Thank you liz for reply and advice – if only the dealership were as quick. I have spoken to the general manager several times and put my complaint in writing two weeks ago but still no written reply. Any more advice would be appreciated Regards Davvy

You could take your concerns to your local citizen’s advice if you feel your issues have not been resolved.

I want to leave a very low star rating for Mobilvetta K-YACHT TEKNO LINE 79 first registered 10-16 low mileage and wash Sean on tv . I took delivery 08/11/17. It has been nothing but bother things falling off, locking us in, not locking while away on a break In Whale whiles travelling buzzer sounding that door was open, had it back to workshop many times. But still the fault list gets bigger we have lost faith in the Motorhome and the possibility to repair it to an acceptable standard. I have complained in writing but still await for a reply to resolve this issue.

Sorry to hear of your experience with this motorhome David. Our only advice is to speak or write to a manager at the dealership and hopefully the issues can be resolved.

Hi Ian, What are your thoughts after living with your motorhome? We are off to the NEC this week and the Mobilvetta k79 is high on our list of maybes

mobilvetta k yacht 79

The problem with motorhomes and I have had two, is that, as big as they are, the kitchen workspace is still tiny. This one has a tiny triangle between the cooker and sink, as most do. This is one of the reasons I changed to a Peugeot Boxer campervan. You get cooker, sink, workspace and fold up worktop in a row, the a section of the table swings out to just about meet the drop down section, then the table itself. You end up with a good, L shaped, preparation/dishwashing area.

mobilvetta k yacht 79

I have had one on order since October, it should be delivered next week early April, having been to four shows, 2 at the NEC and over 160 models, I can say.. nothing comes remotely close to this level of interior, the number of included extras alone should sway one from the norm out there. Other manufacturers charging a fortune for what comes as standard… A heated front windscreen….Unheard of.

We had a quick look at these at the NEC, I think they only had circa 300kg payload at 3500. But many other vans also seemed to have similar payloads.

jessthedog said: Went to NEC yesterday, They have been very popular and they've sold out stock. April was earliest they could get them. I asked salesman if it was possible to get heavy chassis, told No by one and yes by another to upgrade to 4400kg chassis for 1200 quid extra. So Jimiol, might be worth paying the extra? jimiol said: I believe marquis have a deal with mobilvetta to take 50 of the techno line models all specifications the same, all extras have been preselected by marquis so each model will have the same extras at the standard marquis price, the only extra a customer can choose is auto and the weight to 3650. You can get the heavy chassis but not from marquis and not with their original order from mobilvetta. So we are on a diet including the dog. Click to expand...

I liked this one when it was featured in MMM magazine. I also like all the windows in the back the same as my beast has

I was really impressed with the K Yacht at the NEC and put a deposit down subject to test-drive next week. The payload is the issue but many vans within my budget seemed to suffer the same problem.

Couple of things from my perspective having had my mh85 for a few months now. The table is too big, the gas locker too small i can only get two smaller gaslow bottles in it i would have preferred 2 x 13kgs. Couple of niggling finishing details that i'll get sort when it goes for its first hab check next year. Overall im very impressed and very impressed with Marquis who have been great. Good luck.

Saw the one at NEC and thought nice van just a shame about the dealership. At this moment in time unless things drastically change I would not purchase from them.

Dealer has been very good, I know others have had issues but to date they've been spot on. I don't think the current range has alko chassis, mine hasn't. Payload I suppose it depends on what you take 3650 is JUST ok for me.

Nevis said: Looks classy. We're undecided on a few things: The Mobilvetta website technical download seems to suggest that MH80 does not have an AL-KO chassis. We need to iron this out with a dealer. Whether to order the heavier chassis upgrade to 4400kg. Payload seems tight and would be interested to know how owners cope with this. Still can't decide on sleeping configuration- would prefer a fixed bed but the rear lounge arrangement appeals. This model, the 80 with the drop-down bed is shorter too which may suit our space on the drive. Click to expand...

It also has a cracking interior (from my computer anyway!) and a different layout to the rest. Most of the A class I have found apart from the very very expensive or the 8 metre tags, all have front dinette, pull down bed over front driving seats and a rear fixed bed. This one has the same at front, but a rear lounge with a fixed electric bed that comes down over the seating. Novel 148 P.S, Auto Automatic, on a 4250kg chassis Brand new. All yours for 68 grand. I have the model pictured above, a K Yacht 80 it is uprated to 3650kg the 4250kgs mentioned is not for this model. 150hp Ducato with the auto box, it has had many, many problems but we still love it.. Purchased in April 2017 from new from Marquis Dinnington, comes with many extras included in the basic price. I fitted an alarm with GPRS, Satellite dome Etc.

Hi, on collection of the vehicle April 6th, it managed 300 mtrs and engine management light on, limped to Fiat Worksop were they carried out an initial install of the firmware to the ECU, apparently no one had done this, obviously Marquis hadn't road tested it before collection, neither had they checked wheel nuts for tightness, tyre pressures, Etc. When collected second time all appeared well, not so...1st trip out to Bala in Wales and within minutes of operating the shower torrents of water running into the electrics between the floor, this turned out to be a crushed shower drain elbow on one drain and a split hose on the other. The two flat screens aerial feeds were incorrectly connected between the splitter/co-axial resulting in a complete re-wire of the incoming and distribution of the tv signal. Curved cupboard door ply material split and "blown" due to leak on kitchen sink drain, missing it's rubber seal. Wardrobe end panel damaged from new, replaced by Marquis but wardrobe door promptly fell off as they hadn't fitted it back correctly. Satellite connection not connected to outside connection.. Hot water not available on external shower due to "kink" in feed to connection under bathroom sink.. Pull-up tv mechanism in lounge collapsed after one week.. Bathroom door damaged from new.. A total of 57 faults, most corrected by me as any visit to Marquis resulted in more issues......

History of Ulyanovsk

Ulyanovsk in the 17th-19th centuries.

In 1648, by decree of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, the fortress of Sinbirsk was founded on the right bank of the Volga River in order to protect the eastern borders of the Tsardom of Russia from the raids of nomadic tribes (Nogai Tatars), as well as to colonize the Volga region.

In the fall of 1670, Sinbirsk was unsuccessfully besieged by the army of Stepan Razin - the Don Cossack, who was the leader of the 1670-1671 uprising, the largest in the history of pre-Petrine Russia. In 1678, 1,579 people lived in Sinbirsk.

In 1729, the coat of arms of Sinbirsk was approved - a white pillar topped with a golden crown in the azure field. In 1780, Sinbirsk was renamed Simbirsk. In 1793, 13,317 people lived in this town.

In 1812, Ivan Goncharov, a famous Russian novelist and critic, was born in Simbirsk. In 1836, Emperor Nicholas I visited Simbirsk and made a lot of orders for the construction of new buildings in the town, especially in its central part. In 1840, the Simbirsk Theological Seminary was opened.

More Historical Facts…

In 1845, a monument to Nikolay Karamzin (1766-1826) was opened - the author of one of the first generalizing works on the history of Russia and a reformer of the Russian literary language, who was born near Simbirsk. Today, this monument erected in Karamzin Public Garden is one of the symbols of Ulyanovsk. In 1848, one of the first libraries in the Volga region was opened in this town - the Karamzin Public Library.

In the summer of 1864, a terrible fire occurred in Simbirsk, which lasted 9 days. Only one fourth of the town buildings survived. In 1867, the merchant Yurgens opened the first bookstore in Simbirsk. In 1870, the future “leader of the world revolution” Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin) was born in Simbirsk. Alexander Kerensky, a prominent Russian politician and statesman, was born here in 1881. According to the 1897 census, 43.3 thousand people lived in Simbirsk.

Ulyanovsk in the first half of the 20th century

From 1908 to 1912, Igor Kurchatov, the future creator of the Soviet atomic bomb, lived in Simbirsk with his parents and studied at the local gymnasium. In 1916, the construction of the Imperial Bridge over the Volga River was completed in Simbirsk. With a length of 2,089 meters, it was the longest bridge in the Russian Empire at that time.

After the First World War and the Russian Civil War, the city’s industry was in ruin. During the war years, not a single building was constructed in Simbirsk, street lighting disappeared, boulevards and parks fell into disrepair, up to a hundred residential buildings were destroyed.

On May 9, 1924, in connection with the death of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin), Simbirsk was renamed into Ulyanovsk, and Simbirsk Governorate - into Ulyanovsk Governorate. Other proposed options for the new name of the city were such as “Lenin”, “Leninsk”, “Ilyich”.

By the end of the 1930s, almost all churches in Ulyanovsk were destroyed or used for other purposes. On the eve of the Second World War, Ulyanovsk was a provincial city with a population of about 110 thousand people. There were no large industrial enterprises, with the exception of the 3rd State Plant named after Volodarsky (Ulyanovsk Cartridge Plant) - one of the oldest defense enterprises in Russia, specializing in the production of cartridges for rifled weapons.

During the Second World War, Ulyanovsk became the place of evacuation of 17 industrial enterprises from the occupied regions and the front line. The Minsk Tank School, renamed the 2nd Ulyanovsk Tank School, was relocated from Minsk, the Mogilev Military Infantry School, which became the Ulyanovsk Military Infantry School, was relocated from Mogilev. In 1942, a medical institute evacuated from Voronezh began to work in Ulyanovsk.

From October 1941 to August 1943, the Moscow Patriarchate was in evacuation in Ulyanovsk, headed by Metropolitan Sergius. From 1942 to 1945, Andrei Sakharov, the future creator of the hydrogen bomb, academician and human rights activist worked at the Ulyanovsk Machine-Building Plant.

On January 19, 1943, Ulyanovsk became the center of the newly formed Ulyanovsk Oblast. From the second half of 1941 to the beginning of 1942, the population of Ulyanovsk, due to the evacuees, doubled and amounted to more than 200 thousand people. By 1945, as a result of re-evacuation, it decreased by 50 thousand and amounted to 152 thousand people.

Ulyanovsk after the Second World War

In the post-war period, Ulyanovsk became an industrial city. In 1953, during the construction of the Volga cascade of hydroelectric power plants, part of Ulyanovsk was included in the flooding zone of the Kuibyshev reservoir. In 1957, the Ulyanovsk airport was built. Since the 1960s, thanks to the high rates of housing and industrial construction, Ulyanovsk began to grow rapidly both in area and in population. On May 5, 1967, the 300,000th resident of the city was born.

In the 1969-1970s, in honor of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Lenin, the historical center of Ulyanovsk was built up with modern buildings: the hotel “Sovetskaya”, the House of Artists, the Memorial Center of Vladimir Lenin, the hotel “Venets”, the new railway station Ulyanovsk-Tsentralny, the new river station, the central airport Ulyanovsk-Tsentralny, the central department store, the central bus station, the Palace of Pioneers, the park “Friendship of Peoples”, etc.

With the construction of the Memorial Center of Vladimir Lenin, Ulyanovsk became one of the main tourist centers of the USSR, after Moscow and Leningrad. The city was not closed to foreigners, which distinguished it from many other industrial regional centers, but foreign tourists were not allowed to deviate from the route. On June 1, 1973, the 400,000th resident of Ulyanovsk was born. On April 16, 1982, the population of Ulyanovsk exceeded 500 thousand people.

On June 5, 1983, in Ulyanovsk, the river cruise ship “Alexander Suvorov” crashed into the railway bridge across the Volga (the Imperial Bridge). By mistake of the crew, the ship tried to pass under the non-navigable span of the bridge. As a result, more than 170 people died. The large number of casualties is explained by the fact that at the time of the collision, most of the passengers were in the movie theater and on the dance floor on the upper deck, which was completely destroyed by the collision with the bridge girder.

On July 17, 1987, the 600,000th resident of Ulyanovsk was born. The city’s tourist significance declined sharply after the collapse of the USSR. In 1998, Ulyanovsk celebrated its 350th anniversary.

In the 2000s, there was a discussion about the reverse renaming of the city to Simbirsk, but the residents of Ulyanovsk for the most part did not support this proposal. In 2009, the arches of the old railway bridge were replaced. On November 24, 2009, the Presidential Bridge across the Volga was opened, the second longest in Russia, with a length of about 6 kilometers.

Ulyanovsk - Features

From 1648 to 1780, the name of Ulyanovsk was Sinbirsk, and from 1780 to 1924 - Simbirsk. This name was given to the town by its founder, Bogdan Khitrovo, after the name of the settlement of Sinbir (named after the Bulgarian prince Sinbir), the remains of which were located nearby. In 1924, after the death of Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin), Simbirsk was renamed into Ulyanovsk.

Ulyanovsk is located in a forest-steppe zone on the Volga Upland, on both banks of the Volga River (Kuybyshev Reservoir). The climate is moderately continental. The average temperature in February is minus 10.4 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 20.2 degrees Celsius. A characteristic feature of Ulyanovsk is the constant winds blowing from the Volga.

This city is a major transport point, lying between central Russia and the Urals. Neighboring regional centers are three to five hours away by car. There are two international airports near the city - Ulyanovsk-Central (ULV) and Ulyanovsk-Vostochny (ULY).

The banks of the Volga in Ulyanovsk are connected by two bridges. The old railway bridge was officially opened in 1916 and was named “Imperial of His Majesty Nicholas II”. In 1917, it was renamed Freedom Bridge. In 2009, it again began to be called “Imperial Bridge”. The new bridge (also called “Presidential Bridge”) was commissioned on November 26, 2009.

Public transport is represented by trams, trolleybuses, buses, and minibuses. In Ulyanovsk tram lines are located exclusively in the right-bank part of the city and trolleybus lines are in the left-bank part. In the last years of the USSR, it was planned to build a subway in Ulyanovsk.

It is a multi-ethnic city. The ethnic composition according to the 2010 All-Russian Population Census: Russians (77.65%), Tatars (12.64%), Chuvash (5.02%), Mordovians (1.4%). The economy of the city is based on the enterprises of the automotive industry, engine building, aircraft building, instrument making, machine building, and metalworking.

Ulyanovsk has a high potential for the development of the tourism industry. The tourist image of Ulyanovsk as “The Birthplace of Vladimir Lenin” is supplemented with some new ones now: “Russian provincial town of the 19th century”, “Homeland of Oblomov”, “Architectural Museum in the Open Air”.

The City Day of Ulyanovsk is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday in September.

Novy Venets Boulevard - a pedestrian street in the center of Ulyanovsk located on the highest point of the city. From here you can see the Volga, Imperial Bridge, and city districts. Historical and Memorial Museum of Ivan Goncharov - a magnificent building, which is a historical and architectural sight of Ulyanovsk. In 1812, the famous Russian writer Ivan Goncharov was born in one of its rooms. The exposition occupies all three floors of the building. A separate hall is dedicated to the history of the building itself, in the remaining halls there are thematic exhibitions related to the personality of the writer and his family. There are also halls that house historical collections and a collection of merchant household items. The tower of the building houses the Museum of the History of the Simbirsk Town Clocks. Goncharova Street, 20.

Museum “Simbirsk Classical Gymnasium” . Simbirsk was one of the first Russian cities to introduce secondary education for children. The museum exposition is dedicated to the history of the development of education in the Russian Empire. It is located in a former gymnasium, where Vladimir Ulyanov and Alexander Kerensky studied at one time. Inside, the atmosphere of the 19th century has been recreated. The interiors of classrooms, halls, dressing rooms, and a gym have been restored. The building that houses the museum was constructed in 1790. Spasskaya Street, 18.

The museum was opened after the restoration of the building in 1979. The collection consists of pre-revolutionary and Soviet sections. In the central part there is a diorama depicting the fire of 1894 in Simbirsk. Lenin Street, 43.

Historical and architectural complex “Simbirsk Fortified Line” . At the time of the foundation of Ulyanovsk, the Simbirsk line protected the Russian land from the raids of nomads from the east. Today, you can find a unique historical and architectural museum here. It features a defensive fortress and an earthen rampart, which were restored based on historical documents and remains found by archaeologists in Simbirsk. The exposition includes examples of Russian weapons, old documents, maps, diagrams, decrees, and a model of a water mill. Leo Tolstoy Street, 43a.

Balalaika Museum - a unique museum with a collection of the rarest balalaikas (a musical instrument very popular in pre-revolutionary and Soviet Russia). The guests of the museum are invited to immerse themselves in the world of village music, to hear the sound of real peasant balalaikas. Here you can also taste tea made from herbs collected in the forests of the Ulyanovsk region. Bebelya Street, 19.

House of Merchant Bokounin - a beautiful monument of wooden architecture, one of the architectural gems of Ulyanovsk. It was erected at the beginning of the 20th century on the territory of the estate of the Ulyanovsk merchant Sergei Bokounin. Part of the premises is occupied by the restaurant “Teremok”. Radishcheva Street, 4.

The Volga River (Kuibyshev Reservoir) - the largest artificial reservoir on the Volga created in the 1950s. The reservoir is 500 km long, with a maximum width of 44 km. Its powerful water resources are used to generate electricity. Due to its gigantic size, it significantly affected the Volga itself, changed the flow regime and began the processes of coastal washout. Home to many species of fish, the reservoir attracts fishing enthusiasts to its shores.
