By Steph Loseby   17 May 2023

The latest addition to the Golden Yachts Fleet, 78m (255ft) superyacht O’REA has been launched, marking a new milestone for the Greek shipyard as they introduce 'the new generation of Golden Yachts.'

Completely unique and dissimilar from the designs of her sisterships, superyacht O'REA boasts a contemporary plumb bow that differs from the flared bows of previous Golden Yachts superyachts such as the  84m (278ft) O'PTASIA  and  95m (311ft) O'PARI .

The launch of motor yacht O’REA comes at a busy time for the shipyard following the launch of 60m (196ft) yacht O’EVA and 36m (118ft) yacht O'NEIRO which hit the water for the first time earlier this year.

Showcasing a sleek exterior designed by Studio Vafiadis, motor yacht O’REA is characterized by her striking bow, streamlined hull and elongated windows which come together to create a powerful exterior profile.

Designed with relaxation in mind, the yacht has plenty of areas onboard where guests can kick back, unwind and entertain in maximum comfort and style.

Her contemporary interiors were styled by both Studio Vafiadis and the Italian design house Massari Design. Showcasing custom-designed furniture and a strong interconnection between her interior and exterior spaces, the 1,596GT yacht accentuates the feeling of luxury through the use of space and a variety of precious materials.

Designed with relaxation in mind, the yacht has plenty of areas onboard where guests can kick back, unwind and entertain in maximum comfort and style. Onboard highlights include her expansive swimming pool on the main aft deck, a health bar at the entrance of her lounge area and an abundance of top-quality spa facilities including a sauna, massage room and Hammam.

Scheduled for delivery in June 2023, superyacht O'REA will be available fo r charter  and is believed to be joining the  Greek charter fleet  for the summer season.

The luxury motor yacht will also be making an appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2023 , which will take place in Port Hercule from September 27 - 30.

If you're interested in booking this yacht or a similar vessel for your next vacation at sea, you can  view and compare all Golden Yachts available for charter today or speak with a recommended  yacht charter broker  who can help you create your dream yacht rental vacation.

Assembling its own dedicated team of professionals, Golden Yachts embarked on a series of strategic collaborations cooperating with the best firms and sub-contractors in Greece and Europe. Three years ago, Golden Yachts at last made the move to constructing yachts at their own shipyard facilities, the 52 m three deck M/Y “O’PTASIA,” her sister ship M/Y “O’NEIRO” and the 54m M/Y ”O’RAMA”.

Golden Yachts’ vessels are characterized by innovative technology, obsessive attention to detail, and extravagantly opulent furnishings. Over the 19 years since the company’s inception, Golden Yachts has rebuilt, refitted, and/or constructed eight exceptional vessels. During that time, the company also had the management and chartering duties of all of the vessels, using all their expertise to create incomparable experiences for their clients. Currently, Golden Yachts has two new projects underway, the GY39 and the GY97.

“ Aurther H 355 CC “ This is my 4th Everglades owned and I have to say what draws me to the brand is the fit and finish. For me feeling safe and in control in the water always comes first. I do not know any other boat manufacturer out there that gives me that feeling quite like Everglades. Arthur Hernandez ”
“ Michael W 355t “ I've been fishing in the Keys since 1998 and my new 355T is a perfect platform for ease of fishing, safety while in rough conditions, providing comfort and convenient operation for a wonderful boating or fishing experience. I can't say enough about my 355T. ”
“ Joel A Better than expected “ Best boat I ever owned. Smoothest ride - hands down. There's no substitute for weight! Plenty of modern comforts but still a fishing machine. Finally a boat the family loves as much as I do. Everything about it is solid and made to last. Worth the price! This one's a keeper and probably the last boat I'll ever buy. ”
“ Larry C Everglades 325 “ Excellent all purpose boat. Fishes well and wife loves it. Great boat for the whole family to enjoy whether fishing, swimming, picnicing or joy riding with the grandkids. ”
“ David G Everglades 255 “ My wife and I have been boating for over 40 years. We have owned one sail boat and 7 power boats. Of those 7 power boats 2 have been Boston Whalers and 2 Everglades. Now that we live in Key west we finally settled on the 255 CC. It is the perfect size for here in Key West. We can run thru "skinny" water on the Gulf side and take on whatever we wish to take on in the Atlantic. The twin 200's are very economical but can also hustle us home ahead of a storm. Everyone says it is a beauty. ”

Tula Kremlin Russia

Tula, Russia: Land of Gingerbread, Samovars and Tolstoy

Slavic Travels Uncategorized

Fall was always my favorite season growing up.

Something about the air turning crisper, the weather getting colder. The leaves turning yellow and brown and orange. And of course Halloween.

It’s that back-to-school weather that any person growing up in the United States loves.

So it was a special treat to be able to experience what fall was like in a different country on a different continent, in a country so unknown in the west. To experience fall in Russia.

Maybe it’s because the season is so short here, but autumn in Russia is truly special.

For starters, it only lasts one month. Fall rolls in during the second half of September and ends in the first half of October. After that winter is already in the air.

But during that brief four-week period, when the country transitions from summer to winter, the Russian countryside explodes into the most beautiful mosaic of red and orange and brown and yellow.

They call it ‘zolotaja osenj’ here, or ‘golden fall.’

It was during this time of year I decided to head outside of Moscow and visit Tula, a city located three hours south of Moscow.

The year was 2017. I was living in Moscow working for a Russian newspaper. October had just arrived.

I was living with another American at the time working in Moscow. We both didn’t want to waste a beautiful crisp sunny autumn day cooped up in Moscow in the apartment.

So we took out a map and looked at what cities nearby we could visit.

We looked North, East, West and finally South. And there she was. Tula.

We’d read a lot of good things about Tula before. How Tula was the birthplace of Leo Tolstoy. That it was where a traditional Russian desert called pryaniki, or ‘gingerbread’ originated.

How for centuries Tula supplied the Russian empire with weapons and arms. And that samovars, what Russians used to make tea and keep water hot, originated from there.

Throw in a Kremlin too, which the city had, and the choice was obvious. We should visit Tula.

And off we went. To enjoy the Russian autumn in the Russian provinces.

How to get to Tula

There are two ways to get to Tula from Moscow. You can take a suburban train, known as elektrichkas, or you can take a regular train. The regular train costs more, and will take you there directly. In this case, Tula is usually the first stop of a longer train ride headed south toward Voronezh and Ukraine.

The other option, which we opted for, was the elektrichka. Elektrichkas are suburban trains that connect surrounding cities to Moscow. The elektrichka takes longer, three hours as opposed to an hour and a half. But the benefit is it is cheap. And you get to see all the smaller cities the train stops in.

When we went, the train was packed full of Russians heading to their dachas for the weekend.

Churches all across the Soviet Union were declared to have ‘no historic value’ and torn down. Churches that were several centuries old. Comunist style administration buildings were put in their place. Monuments to Russian czars were also destroyed and replaced by statues of Lenin.

In the 1980s under Gorbachev an effort was made to restore churches that had been neglected for decades under communism. The domes were put back in place and religious services began once more.

In 2006 the building was finally returned back to the Russian Orthodox Church. Somehow, Tula’s Uspensky Sobor managed to survive 80 years of neglect under Soviet rule. Let’s hope the 21st century treats it better.

It too faced threats of disappearing forever under the communists. In the 1920s the dome was torn down but the remainder of the building was left untouched. For a while it functioned as a school, and then in 1960 the building was deemed to be part of the city’s architectural heritage and received protected status.

It’s interesting to compare Kremlins in Russia and when they were built. As far as Tula is concerned, it’s Kremlin isn’t the oldest, but neither is it the youngest.

  • Veliky Novgorod – 1490
  • Moscow – 1495
  • Nizhny Novgorod – 1515
  • Tula – 1520
  • Zaraisk – 1531
  • Kolomna – 1531
  • Astrakhan – 1581
  • Smolensk – 1602
  • Rostov – 1680

There’s actually a lot more kremlins in Russia, depending on how you define a Kremlin. Technically many monetarists could be considered Kremlins, but are classified as religious objects, such as Sergiev Posad or Zvenigorod . Some have only been partly preserved, such as Kolomna . In any case, Tula gets the honor of being one of a handful of Russian cities with a Kremlin that’s been fully preserved.

In Moscow, the Kremlin is closed to the public. In order to visit, you have to pay. And as a result, nobody gets to enjoy the Kremlin. Tourists will pay and go inside when they visit the city. But the actual residents of Moscow, the people that live in the city, never get to enjoy it. It feels separated from the city, not like an integral part of it.

It wasn’t always like this. Up until the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, Moscow’s Kremlin was open to the public and anybody could walk in and out of it. It functioned just like the Kremlins in Tula, Nizhny Novgorod, Veliky Novgorod and so forth.

Moscow should learn from these cities and open their own Kremlin up to the public. The city would become much more attractive.

One problem in Tula were the wide streets that favored cars. Tula’s main street in the city that went through the center of the city had three lanes for cars going in each direction.

It was no wonder, therefore that cars drove very fast. In fact, I was quite surprised at just how loud Tula was for a city of only half a million people. It felt like on every street there was the constant noise of cars rushing by.

What should Tula do instead? Streets like these should be reduced in size and preference given to pedestrians and cyclists. Two lanes in the middle should go toward a tram line, the other two narrowed in size to make way for a bike lane going in both directions.

Tula in fact, had tram lines operating on its main streets up until WWII, before the government decided to get rid of them.

Giving the streets back to the people would make the city a more comfortable place to live.

What I love most about these buildings is how colorful they are. They are all painted in different colors.

Unfortunately many of them were in bad shape. Traditional wooden buildings in Russia are in danger of disappearing forever. All across the country these buildings are being torn down as people move to cities and forget about the buildings where their grandparents grew up and came from. I wrote an entire separate post about the topic here about a street in Tula that was filled with these wooden buildings.

This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the city. Built in 1772, it contained some of the oldest graveyards and tombs in the city from over 100 years ago.

Tula was the city where the majority of Russian samovars were produced in the 19th century. You could find them all over Europe and chance are if you live in an old house and look in the attic, you will find a samovar that was made in the city of Tula.

Tula was an amazing city to visit in the fall. Russia can have extreme weather. Most of the year is covered in snow, but you have brief glimpses of fall, spring and summer that can be enjoyed.

These photos capture what fall in Russia is like. We happened to spend them in Tula, but really, any Russian city will look this beautiful in the fall.

When it comes t othe city of Tula itself, it is a great day trip outside of Moscow. The city is beaming with history. The armaments factory, the Kremlin, the wooden buildings in the center of the city, the beautiful cemetery atop the hill and the delicious Russian pryaniki all combine to make this worth the trek outside of Moscow.

Be sure to add it to your itinerary when you visit Russia and Moscow.

Nissan's disgraced, fugitive former chairman has to give the company $32 million — and a yacht

A fight centered on who owned the 121-foot ship carlos ghosn paid for with millions he is accused of illicitly taking from nissan.

Former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn speaks during a press conference with the President of Lebanon's University of Kaslik (USEK) launching a joint initiative to help the crisis-ridden country, in the northern city of Jounieh on September 29, 2020

In This Story

Nissan just won the first round of its boat battle with disgraced former chairman and current indicted fugitive Carlos Ghosn . Basically, this fight was all about who owned the 121-foot pleasure cruiser Ghosn paid for with millions he is accused of illicitly taking from Nissan NSANY . Ghosn was ordered to give up the vessel to Nissan . On top of that, he, his wife, and a shell company they created to purchase the boat were ordered to pay $32 million in damages, according to the ruling by the British Virgin Islands High Court.

Suggested Reading

The Custom Line Navetta 37 built by Ferretti, an Italian boat maker, was christened “Shachou,” which is Japanese for “The Boss.” Carlos , that’s a little bit on the nose, isn’t it? It has seven bathrooms, five main cabins and four crew cabins. From Automotive News :

The yacht became a symbol of the alleged self-serving excesses at the crux of misconduct accusations against Ghosn, who was arrested in 2018 at the height of his power as chairman of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, then the world’s biggest automotive group. The boat also featured in the final of four criminal indictments brought against Ghosn by Japanese prosecutors. Ghosn has yet to stand trial in Japan on the criminal counts. After 140 days of lockup on two separate stints in a Tokyo jail, Ghosn jumped bail and fled Japan to his ancestral homeland of Lebanon. He continues to live there with an Interpol red notice seeking his arrest. The British Virgin Islands court contest covered an alleged flow of some $32 million from Nissan’s CEO Reserve Fund through a complex chain of intermediaries, including a regional subsidiary, Nissan Middle East, into various entities controlled by Ghosn or his family members. Some of the money was traced to Shogun Investments, a California company owned by Ghosn and his son, and to Beauty Yachts Pty Ltd., the company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands to buy the yacht and later owned by Ghosn’s wife, Carole, according to the court’s Aug. 9 decision. “It is in the Court’s respectful judgment clear as a matter of fact that the sums paid away from Nissan/NME [Nissan Middle East] were for purposes other than the proper purposes of Nissan or NME; and the payments to Mr. Ghosn, Beauty Yachts and Shogun were made in order to benefit Mr. Ghosn or his nominees,” High Court Judge Gerhard Wallbank wrote in the 56-page judgment.

The 70-year-old denied any wrongdoing to AutoNews and said he was “obviously appealing” the decision. Neither he nor his wife attended the trial or were represented there.

Here’s a little more background on this whole boat saga and Ghosn’s legal issues:

Ghosn was arrested in November 2018 in a sting after he landed at Tokyo’s Haneda airport on a regular business trip. He says the charges of financial misconduct were concocted to block Nissan’s fuller integration with its longtime French partner Renault, a plan he was working on at the time. Nissan applauded the decision as confirming its claims that Ghosn misappropriated funds. “This is a part of Nissan’s efforts to recover damages suffered due to Carlos Ghosn’s misconduct, including the misappropriation of Nissan’s assets and etc. through legal proceedings including lawsuits in Japan and overseas,” the Japanese carmaker said in a statement. “Nissan will continue such efforts to make Carlos Ghosn accountable for his misconduct.”The British Virgin Islands case is one of several ongoing civil and criminal showdowns that continue to grab headlines as they grind through courts worldwide, nearly six years after Ghosn’s stunning arrest upended the Franco-Japanese alliance he spent two decades building.[...]French authorities issued an arrest warrant for Ghosn in 2022, alleging he diverted millions of euros from Renault for his personal gain through a scheme with an auto distributor in Oman. That charge mirrors a similar allegation made by Japanese prosecutors regarding Nissan.Ghosn is also fighting a ¥15.5 billion ($102.5 million) civil claim leveled by Nissan in a Yokohama court. And for his own part, Ghosn has filed suit against Nissan in a Lebanon court claiming $1 billion in damages and lost compensation.

Since December of 2019, Ghosn has been living in Lebanon after fleeing Japan in a dramatic dark-of-the-night escape while being hidden in an audio equipment case . Despite the fact he’s wanted in both Japan and France, he holds a Lebanese passport, and that country does not extradite its citizens.

123m Lürssen superyacht Golden Odyssey joins market for Monaco Yacht Show

The 123.2-metre Lürssen superyacht Golden Odyssey is newly listed for sale at the Monaco Yacht Show with Burgess and Edmiston .

Designed by Martin Francis and built of steel and aluminium by Lürssen, her vast interior was designed by the late Alberto Pinto . Francis kept her exterior proportions elegant despite the massive 7,600GT of volume.

Golden Odyssey accommodates a party of up to 30 guests across 15 cabins, served by a crew and staff of up to 70. Her beam is 20 metres. A private owner's deck is a particular highlight and includes two master suites, a spa, wellness area with steam room, Hammam, treatment room and a private terrace with Jacuzzi.

Stepping on board, guests can expect two grand, sweeping staircases aft which lead to the main deck, where a spacious beach club platform awaits.
