  1. Installing a Head

Mount the vented loop so it will remain above the waterline at all heel angles. Clean the anti-siphon valve regularly to keep it functioning. A vented loop in the inlet line can interfere with the proper functioning of the head, and its omission poses less risk because of the positive-action valve on the inlet side of the head.

  2. Plumbing the Conventional Marine Head

In addition to either raw-water or freshwater plumbed toilets, there are portable toilets, composting toilets like the Air Head, hold-and-treat systems like Raritan's Lectro Scan, and vacuum-based systems like Sea-Land's VacuFlush. In addition, there are multiple ways to plumb a holding tank into the system. Most manufacturers of marine ...

  4. Know how: The Marine Head

Dec 14, 2017. After: the Marine Elegance head lends a certain je ne sais quoi to the boat. The 30-year-old Raritan PH II head on our Pearson 39-2 project boat still worked, but reluctantly. The boat had sat on the hard for two years and if there's anything marine toilets need, it's regular exercise to stop rubber or leather parts from ...

  5. Troubleshooting a Manual Marine Head

Rebuild kits generally contain all sorts of seals, valves, o-rings, and other components located inside the head's hand pump. They come with a diagram so you know where each part goes. A typical rebuild kit for a manual marine head, including discharge flapper valve, joker valve, inlet/outlet flapper, discharge flapper, and other critical seals.

  6. Using Your Boat Head

To winterize your head, drain all water from the bowl, pump mechanism, and connecting plumbing. Close the intake seacock. Pump the toilet dry, then loosen the hose clamps and remove the inlet and discharge hoses, as well as any drain plugs. If the toilet is to be used in freezing conditions, use a small portion of nontoxic antifreeze, approved ...

  7. Head Plumbing Diagram

Images: 25. Bill-- Note that a vented loop on the intake line will prevent a head mounted pump from functioning unless there is a way to close the vent when one needs to pump. On our boat that is accomplished with a small tube from the vent to a fitting on the face of the counter that one blocks with one's finger when pumping the head.

  8. Boat Plumbing

Most electric pumps have a pressure switch that activates when the pressure drops below a set value--usually around 30 or 40 PSI. Opening any tap on the boat releases pressure and causes the pump to kick on and run until it rebuilds the pressure to the cut-out setting. The pump cycles on and off until the tap is closed.

  10. Holding Tank Plumbing and Layouts

Breather vent plumbing should be 38mm (1 1/2″) bore mm. Rinse out plumbing, deck to tank, is usually 19mm (3/4″) but other plumbing must be 38mm (1 1/2″) The level indicator shown in all layouts is the Tek-Tanks Tankminder as this meets the minimum requirements for waste tank level indication. Other waste level indicators include the S3H ...

  12. Factory Head discharge plumbing diagram.

Hi Hans. Different model 1991 boat, but our toilet discharge hose does not have a vented loop, since it goes directly into the holding tank. The sea water intake line for flushing does have a vented loop, which makes sense. Perhaps your system has the same setup as ours, since we have the same model year. No diagram to share, however.

  13. Holding Tank Plumbing Diagram

Re: Holding Tank Plumbing Diagram. I don't own a cruiser, but I love sailing when I'm anywhere near a coast. Here in Indianapolis, I own a house boat that I spend most of the summer on. Some Indianapolis plumbers and myself installed a new toilet on my house boat recently, and our setup looked almost identical to the diagram in the post above me.

  14. Pressurized Freshwater Systems Guide

Higher capacity pumps will have port sizes of 3/4" or 1" to allow more flow. Some shower pumps offer multiple port sizes between 3/4" and 1 1/2". Otherwise 1/2" NPT ports are very common on freshwater pumps. West Marine Freshwater System Pump is designed to meet the needs of most boats with a water heater, shower and up to three faucets.

  15. Installing An Electric Head

Cost: Approximately $1,000. 1. The old head worked, but it leaked, was noisy, and used seawater for flushing, and I disliked the exposed plumbing. It had to go. 2. Step One was to turn off the power and close the seawater intake. As I was installing new plumbing and electrical wiring, I simply cut these out of the way.

Messages. 1,822. Jun 17, 2009. #2. Re: Head plumbing diagram needed. A 'Y' fitting is installed in your system to allow overboard discharge. Now, if you're in a landlocked lake or closer than three miles to shore it is prohibited to use this function. So, with the valve installed it will either let you pump overboard or into your holding tank.

Hey everyone, another quick question, this spring I'll be redoing the plumbing in my g26, I'm confused as to the head plumbing, there seems to be too many hoses, I know the overboard discharge is not legal and there is no hoses connected to the thru hull, so I'm ...

  19. Help me put my head plumbing back right

The head system should operate in a separate plumbing circuit. Usually a bladder tank is used to replace an original tank that has cracked and is leaking. Have you figured out how that bladder is emptied? Find an owner's manual for your boat as it should have a plumbing diagram as it comes from factory.
