JID enlists Lil Yachty, BabyTron for ‘Van Gogh,’ ‘Half Doin Dope’

JID and Lil Yachty ’s “ Van Gogh ” has been a vaulted gem for nearly two years. Now, the track has finally been shared to streaming services, as the BlakkBoyz tandem skate over their first effort as a duo.

Taking to Instagram Live to reveal a slew of new music on the way, The Forever Story rapper not only discussed the two new drops with Yachty slated for Friday (Sept. 1), but announced an upcoming mixtape titled Forever & A Day as well as updating fans his highly-anticipated collab album with Metro Boomin .

“I think I’mma give y’all an album before this Metro shit come out, Forever & A Day… I’m just making goddamn announcements right quick,” he said on IG Live swirling a glass of spirit. “I don’t even be on this shit no more because I’m too old for it… But [the project] coming out, Fall time. Probably 10-12 songs. Damn near almost done.”

Alongside officially releasing “Van Gogh,” which was initially uploaded on CARDOGOTWINGS ’ YouTube channel, the “BlakkBoyz” (JID and Boat’s duo name) and Detroit scam rap icon BabyTron pair up on “ Half Doin Dope ,” as the new two-pack sees the both JID and Boat continue rather prolific runs in their respective lanes.

Both JID and Yachty performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago earlier this month , as we caught up with the “Dance Now” rapper in his trailer for an update on JIDTRO . “We got to make sure [its] world is right, the world that we’re building,” he said. “We got a lot of music together, but we’ve just been pacing it. We’ve been sending each other stuff almost every day. We’ve both been on tour, so we’ve been working through that because he’s working like a madman right now… It’s going to be a special project.”

Lil Yachty’s tear this year has been nothing short of awe-inspiring — relentlessly sharing hit after hit over the course of 2023. Ignited by his alt-rock opus Let’s Start Here , singles such as “STRIKE,” “TESLA,” “SLIDE” and other appearances on Zack Bia’s debut EP, Learn To Fly, Miguel’s “Number 9” and “1017 ALYX ASM’s “Warriors,” among others, have brought Boat to a new artistic threshold. JID And Lil Yachty Artistically Match Each Other’s Energy On Their New Single, ‘Van Gogh’

Two of the hottest in the game right now have linked up for a double dose of magic. Tonight (September 1), rappers JID and Lil Yachty dropped a two-track EP, titled BlakkBoyz present Half Doin Dope/Van Gogh . On the new project is a track called “Van Gogh,” where the two heavy hitters go back and forth, rapping with the ease of a paintbrush on a canvas.

“The hardest thing for me is stayin’ composed / ‘Cause killin’ sh*t is really all that I know / Funeral goes, casket closed / The choir sings, the pastor goes,” raps JID on the song’s opening verse.

The song gently flows into Yachty’s verse, on which, he brags about an exciting year he’s had, while reminding everyone of the quick-witted bars that made him such a promising act.

“Couldn’t dent the Ferrari, sh*t feel like a coffin / I use the codeine without coughin’, I sleep without tossin’ / She call me daddy ’cause I’m bossin’ / I had a show in two cities, call me Dallas Austin / When I talk, I’m flossin’,” raps Yachty.

The song boasts four verses, and the two artists showcase their undeniable musical chemistry with each other over the course of the song.

After an unexpected leak, JID and Lil Yachty have officially released their collaboration, “Van Gogh” with its music video.

Dubbed as the Blakkboyz, the artsy clip centers the Georgian duo armed at an art gallery and cracking a vault while showcasing their lyrical muscle over Cardo’s production.

“I got the gun in my lap near the abdomen / I took a break, but they want me to rap again / Bro just got out and he already trap again, back at his craft again,” raps Lil Boat, while JID follows suit.

“The hardest thing for me is staying composed / ‘Cause killing shit is really all that I know / Funeral goes, casket closed / The choir sings, the pastor goes.”

“Van Gogh” arrives alongside the pair’s “ Half Doin’ Dope ” featuring BabyTron and are both off JID and Lil Yachty upcoming album, Blakkboyz .

JID and Lil Yachty Deliver "Half Doin Dope" and "Van Gogh"

On a collaborative two-pack entitled ‘blakkboyz present half doin dope/van gogh.’.

Earlier this week , news of a forthcoming JID and Lil Yachty collaboration got hip-hop heads hyped for the first link-up between the skilled rappers. On Blakkboyz Present Half Doin Dope/Van Gogh , each rapper brings their distinct energy and artistry to two new cuts: “Half Doin Dope” and “Van Gogh.”

“Half Doin Dope” sees the rappers match each other’s charisma, throwing playful bars back and forth. Stacked with a BabyTron feature as well, the three-and-a-half minute track’s momentum is led by a vibey beat and each rapper’s high-energy flow. “I gave them rappers they time at the podium / I ain’t spoken, I ain’t speak in a moment / It’s been a minute, I was feedin’ the homie,” JID spits on the first verse.

Atlanta natives J.I.D and Lil Yachty linked up, painting vivid pictures of what they're all about on "Van Gogh." Cardo Got Wingz offered one hell of a canvas for the artists to express their creative efforts, and it worked wonders. Fans' only question is when will the song officially drop on streaming.

Lil Yachty has been making consistent and commendable progress as a rapper, experimenting with different tones of voice and cadences that have a slightly more serious edge about them. His most recent album, 2020's  Lil Boat 3 , was home to some very solid verses and displays of growth, landing him a feature on Kanye West 's 2021 Donda project.

J.I.D is one of the hottest artists in the game right now, in terms of ability and individuality. He has a tendency to take the alternate approach over simpler steps, oftentimes creating pockets and choosing off-kilter patterns that stand out amongst the crowd. Many people see him as the frontrunner of J. Cole 's Dreamville camp, citing his knack for big name features, his talents, and the sales numbers in (friendly) comparison to his teammates. His latest release,  DiCaprio 2 , received critical acclaim and nearly cracked the top 20 of the Billboard 200.

Both Lil Yachty and J.I.D are hard at work on their newest musical endeavors. The latter announced his upcoming album The Forever Story in January of 2021. As with other Dreamville albums ( namely EARTHGANG's Ghetto Gods ), the release period was incredibly unsteady, with no specific date in sight for a while. Luckily for J.I.D fans, he released a single in January 2022 titled " Surround Sound ," which featured 21 Savage and Yung Baby Tate.

Since as early as 2020, JID and Lil Yachty have been teasing the existence of new music together via performances, live streams, and social media posts. As REVOLT recently reported, JID finally announced that two leaked songs, “Van Gogh” and the BabyTron-assisted “Half Doin Dope,” would finally be added to streaming platforms. On Friday (Sept. 1), the Dreamville star’s promise was fulfilled to the delight of his and Lil Boat’s extensive fanbase, as the two liberated the aforementioned cuts under the group name Blakkboyz.

In addition to the long-awaited releases, the masses were also treated to a visual for “Van Gogh,” which comes courtesy of directer Boosh. Currently, the “Surround Sound” emcee is putting the finishing touches on an official follow-up titled Forever & A Day .
