  • Croatia 2023: how much will your holiday cost this year?

A hot topic for the upcoming sailing season, especially in Europe, has been Croatia's entry into the Eurozone and the Schengen area. Although Croatia has been a member of the European Union for ten years, it has only recently adopted the common currency and borders. How will these changes affect holidaying there? How much have the prices of boats and services in marinas gone up? And what to do with our leftover kuna? Let's take a look.

The information in the article on prices and economic situation is valid as of 29 March 2023.

Transition from kuna to euro

Croatia managed the changeover from the kuna to the euro relatively smoothly. As our partners at NCP Charter have rightly pointed out, the euro has been used as a parallel currency in Croatia for many years. So you won't be facing any major changes on your holiday. Thankfully, the government set a fixed exchange rate between the euro and kuna during the introduction phase, preventing businesses from arbitrarily rounding up prices and causing artificial inflation.

While food and services have become pricier, the global economic climate and soaring inflation across Europe are the primary culprits. Croatia's current inflation rate is around 12 %, compared to 16 % in the Czech Republic and 15 % in Slovakia. According to locals, they've observed price increases ranging between approximately 7% and 9 %.  It is difficult to predict now how much more prices will rise by the summer.

In addition, charterers could struggle with another and less visible problem, namely the slower supply of spare parts for boat repairs. It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds and whether there will be a reduced number of operational vessels than usual.

Let's not be overly pessimistic — Croatian charter companies have introduced nearly 300 brand-new sailboats since the year's start. (Including other countries, there are over 650 sailboats and 500 catamarans awaiting their first crew). Book them while available and enjoy the luxury of a boat with that brand-new smell.

Jelsa on the island of Hvar

YACHTING.COM TIP: The transitional period for using kuna has ended. Now, shops and restaurants only accept euros. If you have leftover kunas from last year , don't worry; every Croatian bank will exchange them for free until the end of 2023 .

Prices of services in marinas

Regarding the rise in mooring prices and services, even our charter company contacts couldn't provide a clear answer. Some believe marinas may attempt to capitalize on the situation's uncertainty by raising prices, even if service quality remains unchanged. Others anticipate only inflationary increases. Our estimate suggests a 5-10% price increase. Mooring at a buoy (€30–60 per night) is still cheaper than at a pier (€80–200 per night). City piers tend to be more affordable than commercial marinas. The most cost-effective option remains anchoring in a serene, quiet bay.

YACHTING.COM TIP: The islands boast numerous free and often vacant bays. Croatia alone has 1,185 of varying sizes.  For some inspiration, check out our article 14 Croatian islands worth anchoring at .

Marína Sukosan

Prices in shops and restaurants

Croatian restaurants have faced criticism for elevated prices for years, which is often seen as a tourist tax in bustling ports. While locals do notice the food price increase, they don't view it as drastic. In short, the situation is comparable to the rest of Europe. To provide an overview, Numbeo.com data from late March indicates food prices are approximately at the following levels. It's worth noting that current prices are realistically closer to the lower level, or at most, somewhere in the middle:

  • Milk (1 l)............................... € 0.77–1.33
  • Loaf of bread (500 g)....... € 0.66–1.61
  • Eggs (12 pieces)................ € 1.75–3.50
  • Local cheese (1 kg)........... € 5.28–18.50
  • Chicken (1 kg).................... € 4.65–11.31
  • Beef (1kg)........................... € 6.08–14.54
  • Apples (1 kg)...................... € 0.79–1.95
  • Bananas (1 kg)................... € 1.19–2.02
  • Tomatoes (1 kg)................. € 0.80–2.92
  • Potatoes (1 kg).................. € 0.40–1.34
  • Onions (1 kg)...................... € 0.53–1.33
  • Lettuce (1 head)................ € 0.66–1.33

If you go to a restaurant or café, expect prices in the range:

  • A meal in a more expensive restaurant...............................................€ 5.29–13.31
  • A three-course meal in a medium-priced restaurant for two...... € 26.55–79.73
  • Menu at McDonalds................................................................................ € 5.33–7.30
  • Local beer on tap (0.5 l)......................................................................... € 1.73–3.33
  • Imported beer (0.33 l)............................................................................ € 2.00–3.36
  • Cappuccino............................................................................................... € 1.19–2.13
  • Coca Cola / Pepsi in a bottle (0.33 l).................................................. € 1.59–2.65
  • Bottled water (0.33 l)............................................................................ € 1.06–2.00

Higher prices for foreigners lurk in the city centre and near monuments. So try not to swim into the first pub you find on the pier. Instead, look around the adjacent streets for hidden businesses frequented by locals. Chances are the prices and food will be better.

Journey to Croatia after joining Schengen

With Croatia's inclusion in the Schengen area , the borders have been opened and you can cross them without checking in, as you are used to when travelling in the region. This eliminates the often several-hour waits at the borders with Slovenia and Hungary, which made travelling uncomfortable for everyone in the summer months.

On the other hand, Adventure Charter reminds us that Croatia has now become one of the EU countries responsible for controlling the external borders of the Schengen area , especially where it borders Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. You can still expect to be processed at these borders. This year, they may even be more thorough when entering Croatia to show that the country is fulfilling its obligation. But EU citizens should have no problem and, like everywhere else in Schengen, an ID card will suffice.

What remains are the motorway tolls , which are unavoidable not only in Croatia but also in countries along the way. The good news is that they can often be paid for online. Currently, fuel prices in Croatia are at the European average (petrol € 1.46, diesel € 1.58 per litre). In short, they won't please, but they won't surprise either.

Croatia by train

Croatia is served by regular international train lines from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia and Hungary. Czech and Slovak sailors can take RegioJet trains to Rijeka, Ogulin or Zagreb without changing trains. Connecting buses will then take them to nearby ports such as Trogir, Pula, Split, Makarska and others. The ticket price ranges from €30 to €85 depending on the boarding point and destination. You can rent a bed (less than €85) and sleep on the way or a whole compartment for 4 people for less than €345.

YACHTING.COM TIP:   Speaking of Split, it's good to know that 99% of the crews sailing from there on Saturday will be mooring on the island of Solta in the evening. On Sunday, a large number of them will then head to Brac and on Monday to Hvar. Our colleagues from Ban Tours Yachting have shared these interesting numbers with us and at the same time come up with a solution. They offer priority check-in. This way you have the opportunity to leave the harbour by 1.30 pm at the latest, you get an extra half day and you can easily sail to Vis , where almost nobody moors on Saturdays. Of course, we'll help you arrange priority check-in.

To Croatia by plane

As of 26 March 2023, airport document checks for flights between Croatia and Schengen countries will end. This is not a big change considering that most Europeans did not need a passport to travel to Croatia before. Croatia has 9 international airports, 7 of which are located right in the heart of the action on the coast and not coincidentally following the popular metropolises and resorts of Pula, Rijeka, Losinj, Zadar, Split, Brac and Dubrovnik.

Expensive energy and fuel have unfortunately driven ticket prices higher than we have been used to. But why wait for summer at all? Grab a boat now in the spring and enjoy Croatia in bloom .

Get into the Croatian season:

Transfers to and from croatia.

So far, most local departments of transportation have not come up with any new rules or regulations that would affect boaters. Representatives of the charter company Euronautic do not expect them and confirmed to us that crossings between EU member states are indeed easier now. At the very least, if you're coming from another Schengen country, you don't have to register with the maritime border authority when entering Croatian territorial waters. The same conditions apply in the other direction.

The moment you arrive from a so-called third country, for example Montenegro, you enter the Schengen area and are obliged to first show up at a port with an international border crossing. If you have previous experience of crossing between Croatia and Italy or Greece, this will not be news to you. Only this time, it will be mainly Croatians who will be asking for your documents. Permanent border crossings can be found in the ports of Rijeka, Ploče, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Dubrovnik, Raša-Bršica, Umag, Pula, Ubli, Cavtat, Vis and Mali Lošinj.

YACHTING.COM TIP: You don't have to worry about crossing from one country to another. We will be happy to help you with the paperwork and choosing the right charter boat that makes it possible.

A busy season ahead

Although the Covid pandemic is slowly fading, Croatia welcomed 18.9 million visitors last year, and the number is expected to rise even further as travel restrictions ease. In February, visitor numbers increased by 19% compared to the same month in the previous year. Although the situation for the high season is uncertain, some hotels are already reporting full capacity. To ensure a hassle-free trip, it is still recommended to check travel restrictions and have appropriate travel insurance.

In the boat charter industry, it has become increasingly difficult to find last-minute deals in recent years. The days of waiting for better offers are gone as boats are being booked months in advance. It has become a common practice to reserve the best sailboats for the entire season in early spring. Therefore, we recommend planning ahead and booking early to secure a boat for your desired dates.

YACHTING.COM TIP:   Book your boat now and get free security deposit insurance . We still offer charter with all-inclusive insurance included on selected boats. Just choose one of the 10,000 boats (sailboats and catamarans) marked with the all-inclusive insurance label.

Croatia's hidden treasures

Everything in Croatia is worth seeing. Take inspiration from our selection of the best week-long cruises to explore Croatia's coastline and surrounding islands from Pula to Dubrovnik. Itineraries include visits to popular resorts, sightseeing, nature reserves and lounging on the beach. But if you want to go somewhere where you won't see too many tourists, try these lesser-known places. You'll often find them just a few kilometres from the big cities:

Rastoke is a charming centuries-old village at the confluence of the Slunjčica and Korana rivers, which feed the Plitvice Lakes. Although Rastoke is a suburb of the larger town of Slunj, it looks like a model left by a giant. Thanks to its tiny waterfalls and cascades, it is nicknamed the Little Plitvice Lakes. The only difference is that you'll be practically alone here.

The small fishing village of Trstenik can be found on the southern coast of the Peljesac peninsula. The local hillsides are associated with the cultivation of a variety that gives a unique taste to the popular Dingač red wine. The village originated as a port for wine exports. Today, it is an ideal hideaway for those looking for peace and quiet on holiday. You can visit Trstenik on your travels around the Croatian islands or drive here on the new Peljesac Bridge, which opened last year and connects the central part of the peninsula with the mainland.

Wake up your adventurer in you and visit Pasjača beach, about 12 km from Cavtat. The beach is 80 m long and 10 m wide. What attracts visitors to it is the wild backdrop of the high rocky cliff where the beach is nestled. This experience is not for families with children. To get to the beach, you first have to find a path that starts on the cliff 250 metres above sea level, and then go down. Or cheat and sail here on a dinghy.

Pasjača beach

The Kamenjak peninsula juts out into the Adriatic Sea southeast of Pula. It is mainly known for its wild rocky and very rugged coastline, which offers not only a peaceful beaches and athrilling jumps from the rocks into the water, but also great conditions for windsurfing and diving. A cycle path runs across the peninsula and the entire peninsula is criss-crossed with hiking trails that lead you to wild orchids.

Opatija was a forgotten village for centuries before it was discovered in the 19th century by the industrial rich and Austro-Hungarian nobility. They began to come here mainly in winter for spa stays and left behind magnificent town houses, parks and seaside colonnades. The town lies on the eastern coast of Istria just a few kilometres from Rijeka.

If other visitors to Istria happen to get on your nerves and you were willing to travel a little inland, slip away for a few hours to the town of Hum, which according to the Guinness Book of World Records is the smallest town in the world. Latest reports are that there aren't even 30 people living here.

YACHTING.COM TIP: Are you wondering if you should go somewhere else this year after all? There is a possibility. Greece! Captains are looking at it more and more often. That's why we've written a comparison of Croatia vs. Greece .

Denisa Nguyenová

Faqs: 2023 season in croatia.

How have boat, service and food prices changed since Croatia joined the euro?

The changeover from the kuna to the euro had virtually no effect on prices. However, prices have risen due to inflation, by around 7-9% compared to last year. Even so, this is not the biggest increase in Europe.

What is the situation at the borders after Schengen?

The entry into Schengen eliminated border controls in both directions at the borders with Slovenia and Hungary. However, the borders with Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro have been tightened.

Is it more worthwhile to rent a boat as an early bird deal or wait?

Be sure not to delay in booking your boat. It has been standard practice in recent years that boats sell out quickly at the turn of spring and summer.

Yacht Selection

Choosing the right yacht is an essential part of planning your Yacht Week Croatia adventure. The Yacht Week offers a range of different yachts to cater to various group sizes, budgets, and preferences.

When selecting a yacht, here are a few factors to consider:

1. Group Size: Determine the number of people in your crew. Yachts can accommodate different group sizes, from smaller yachts for intimate groups to larger yachts for bigger parties. Make sure the yacht has enough cabins and sleeping arrangements to comfortably accommodate everyone.

4. Budget: Set a budget for your yacht rental. Yachts range in price based on their size, age, and level of luxury. Consider the overall cost of the yacht rental, including fuel, provisioning, and any additional fees. It’s important to align your budget with the type and size of the yacht you choose.

5. Skipper or Bareboat: Decide whether you want to charter the yacht with a skipper or as a bareboat. Having a professional skipper onboard can provide peace of mind and let you fully enjoy the experience, especially if you’re not an experienced sailor. If you have the necessary qualifications and experience, you may opt for a bareboat charter and take the helm yourself.

6. Age and Condition: Take into consideration the age and condition of the yacht. Newer yachts may offer upgraded features and a more modern design. However, older yachts can still be charming and well-maintained. Research the yacht’s history and reviews to ensure you choose a reliable and comfortable vessel.

7. Yacht Charter Company: Work with a reputable yacht charter company or The Yacht Week organizers to book your yacht. Ensure they have a good track record of providing quality yachts and reliable service. Read reviews and gather recommendations to make an informed decision.

10 things to do on a yacht charter during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Dalmatia Region

This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.

Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel',  Split  has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman  Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.

Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is  Dubrovnik,  a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.

Istria Region

Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.

Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.

Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

  • Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
  • Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.

Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of  Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.

But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.

Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia

Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.

You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.

Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia

The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulet Charters in Croatia

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

  • For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses

Child playing in the sea during a yacht charter in Croatia

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .

Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.

For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .

Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.

It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

sample itineraries

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

Glittering blue marina in Croatia

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

  • ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
  • Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
  • ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
  • Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

  • D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
  • ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
  • Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

  • ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
  • Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
  • D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Dubrovnik's glittering blue waters and old port

With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide:  Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Advice for pleasant charter, part ii.

In our previous article we advised you on what to pay attention to when choosing sailing ground, period and company. When you have made those decisions, it is time to choose a boat, acquire necessary paperwork and, finally, check in.

Advice for pleasant charter, part I

Most people charter in summer. In winter, Adriatic Sea can be quite rough, so unless you are an experienced sailor looking for exciting sailing and solitude of islands in the winter, avoid winter sailing – it’s much easier in summer. In summer there are many other boats around you to help you in case you need it, the sea is calmer and the temperatures are high.

Bareboat charter.

The most popular and engaging of all our charter options is the bareboat charter . It is a perfect choice for people with some sailing skills who prefer planning out their own itinerary according to their interests. If you decide to go with our bareboat charter option you will enjoy complete passenger privacy on board, individual expense management by the passengers, as well as a free choice of anchorages, marinas, sailing duration etc. This is the most affordable type of boat charter. If you have a valid skippers' license and adequate knowledge of bareboating, you can enjoy an active sailing holiday in Croatia, Greece, Turkey, Italy or in any other country where your license is valid and we have yachts to offer for charter.

Skippered charter

Skippered charter in Croatia is also highly sought after for renting sailing yachts, catamarans and motor boats . You can choose any boat in our yacht charter offer and hire a skipper who will be responsible for the maneuvering of the yacht. The skipper/captain that you want to hire has all the required licenses and nautical skills, as well as good communication skills and a friendly attitude towards guests or passengers. In accordance to your wishes and weather conditions, he will make the best decisions for itinerary, routes, anchorages, etc. Renting a skippered boat in Croatia can be a great choice for a casual, relaxing and carefree sailing vacation.

Crewed charter

Crewed charter in Croatia is the most personalised form of yacht charter, which applies to gulet charter and luxury motor yachts rentals . It is one of the most comfortable and enjoyable types of holiday you can spend in the Adriatic, fully organised according to a client's desires and preferences. Due to the fact that a complete crew (captain, steward, cook) are on board 24 hours a day, guests are provided with a full service at any time. Yacht charter available in the Adriatic is ideally positioned for the finest sailing experience through all renowned areas and recommended places via proposed routes along the Croatian coastline. Most popular charter bases and sailing areas in Croatia are the following regions: Pula , Rijeka, Zadar , Sibenik, Split and Dubrovnik . Boat rental is possible in any of the thirty marinas in Croatia, where we offer our yacht rental services. All charter bases in Croatia are well connected to the largest European cities, making it easy to realise your Croatian sailing holidays.

Since a significant part of the Mediterranean is in the European Union, this makes its destinations easily accessible to visit. It is easier to rent a boat in coastal destinations like Greece, Italy, France and Spain, while for island destinations like Malta, Sicily, Sardinia and Crete you need to travel further. But whether the departure base is in a large city centre, such as renting a boat from Athens, or one of the islands ( Dodecanese, Cyclades, Sporades or even the Caribbean), you will receive a uniform service because our partners adhere to standards that apply to chartering in the world.

Everyone can enjoy the cruise regardless of the nautical skills they possess. You can easily choose a cabin for rent on one of our cruise ships that sail on predetermined routes and departure dates. Most often such cruises last a week, but there are also shorter cruises lasting 3 days for those who have less time available. The types of cruise ships available to us may be different.

Cruises on wooden ships

We offer cruises on traditional wooden boats that can accommodate from approximately 20 to 40 people accommodated in cabins of two or three. On most of such wooden boats, each cabin has its own private bathroom with toilet and shower, and on the cheaper ones, there is at least a hand basin in the cabin. Sailing on a wooden ship certainly evokes the atmosphere of some ancient times when these same wooden ships carried passengers or precious cargo.

Cruises on modern vessels

This type of cruise offers greater comfort and more content because the ships used are usually slightly larger and newer. The cabins are more spacious, and each must have its own private bathroom with toilet and shower. Also the service on such cruises is richer. Guests can choose between cabins on the lower and upper decks, and on luxury cruisers there are VIP cabins with their own private balconies where you can relax and enjoy the sailing.

Send a charter inquiry or send an email to [email protected] and get the information on which boats are available for rent in Croatia during the desired period. Shortly upon receiving your charter inquiry , we will send you a charter offer, according to your request and specific requirements. We will do our best to find an appropriate boat and make the best charter deal based on your preferences. Once you have selected the boat that best suits your needs, you can book the boat and conclude the lease agreement. More about boat reservation ...

You can send the same charter inquiry if you want to rent a cabin on a cruise . Please write us your requirements, departure date and duration of the cruise, which route you would like to sail and everything else you think is important to you. When we receive your inquiry we will check availability and send you our best cruise offer, based on which you can then book a cabin.
