Feadship’s Epic New 180-Foot Explorer Superyacht Hits the Water for the First Time

Feadship is typically tight-lipped about its projects, but the Dutch shipyard is proudly showcasing one of its newest superyachts. The yacht builder captured the epic new 180-foot explorer , known as Project 708 , as it sailed through the waters of the Netherlands.

The expedition-style vessel, which just finished its stint at the hull-building facility in Papendrecht, was en route to the Aalsmeer yard. Here, Feadship will commence outfitting the behemoth for its delivery in 2021.

Commissioned by a client well-versed in global exploration, Project 708 will be “fully self-sufficient and exceptionally fuel-efficient,” according to the yard. This will ensure she can tackle even the most demanding of ocean adventures with ease.

Designed by Philippe Briand and Vitruvius Yachts Ltd, Project 708 sports a hardwearing steel hull built to ice class. Her tough exterior was designed to power her through planned routes in the grueling North-West and North-East Passages.

Furthermore, the explorer will be fitted with the largest gyroscope system built to date. This will counteract the vessel’s natural motion, but, unlike traditional stabilizer fins, it won’t get damaged by underwater ice. Feadship estimates the unit will weigh a hefty 22 tons.

When it’s time to get acquainted with the world beneath the waves, Project 708 is fitted with an advanced sonar system that can explore the ocean floor. It also comes equipped with a 6.9-ton submarine that is stored on the long aft deck when not in use.

To get the sub into the sea, Project 708 features a massive crane that is capable of lifting up to 7.7 tons. The crane, which has an outreach of roughly 26 feet, will also be used to lift a limousine tender and the owner’s car from aft deck to shore.

In classic Feadship fashion, Details about the vessel’s interiors are scant, but we do know Daniela Boutsen of Boutsen Design is spearheading the fit-out.

The multi-award winning 58m/190'3" expedition yacht 'Najiba' was built by Feadship in the Netherlands at their Aalsmeer shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Christian Liaigre and she was delivered to her owner in April 2019. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Vitruvius and she was last refitted in 2022.

Guest Accommodation

Najiba has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 14 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Najiba is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V 2000 M72) 12-cylinder 1,448hp engines running at 2250rpm, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 90,000 litre fuel tanks. An advanced stabilisation system on board promises exceptional comfort levels at anchor or on any voyage. Her water tanks store around 22,000 Litres of fresh water.

Expedition Yachts sells Feadship superyacht Hilarium II with Camper & Nicholsons

News from Michael Rafferty and Andrew Lebuhn at Camper & Nicholsons that they've closed on the sale of the 45.7m Feadship motor yacht Hilarium II with Ben Snead at Expedition Yachts acting for the buyer.

Formerly known as Lady Allison , she was built by Dutch superyacht yard Feadship and launched in 1991. She has been carefully maintained to the highest standards by experienced owners and combines Feadship charm and elegance with the use of abundant natural light and beautifully crafted wood to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Hilarium II accommodates up to 12 guests in six luxurious and well appointed staterooms. The spacious owner’s suite is located on the main deck and boasts an ensuite bathroom and private study. One VIP cabin and two double cabins are located on the lower deck as well as two twin cabins, each with a Pullman berth, making it the perfect family yacht.

Hilarium II was asking $9.65 million.
