The award winning 82m/269' motor yacht 'Ilona' was built by Amels in the Netherlands at their Makkum shipyard. Her interior is styled by British designer design house RWD and she was completed in 2004. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of RWD and she was last refitted in 2019.

Ilona Gets a Makeover at Amels

Five years after taking delivery, the owner of the Amels -built megayacht Ilona wanted more. Specifically, he wanted more ways of making his megayacht more enjoyable. An eight-month stay at Amels, which wrapped up last month and which marked the yard’s 37th refit, made it happen. And in the words of Kenan Seginer, her captain, “The boss is very happy.”

The main projects for the 243-foot (74-meter) Ilona were the creation of a swimming pool and a new helipad. The pool is aft, where the former helipad/hangar area was. If you’re familiar with the megayacht_,_ recall that she was built with an innovative helicopter hanger below decks. When needed for use, the helicopter rose to deck level on a platform, while deck hatches opened to reveal her. Those same hatches folded back in place to align with the platform to form a helipad. Since the owner wanted the new pool here, Amels removed the hangar.

It’s not “just” a pool, however. _Ilona’_s new water retreat measures 33 feet (10.5 meters) long by about 10 feet (3 meters) wide. Furthermore, it has a floor that can rise from its five-foot (1.5-meter) depth after the water is drained to meet the level of the deck. (The pool holds 10,567 gallons, or 40,000 liters, of filtrated and heated sea water, by the way.) This way, the area can handle a large party or other need.

Since the owner has a different helicopter now, he still wanted Ilona to have a helipad. Amels’ in-house team decided to extend the overhang of her uppermost superstructure level. To save time, it was constructed independent of the yacht, then attached. Of course, an extension such as this would make the original profile look unbalanced. Therefore, Redman Whiteley Dixon , which styled Ilona when she was first commissioned, recommended also extending the owner’s deck and the bridge deck. They each gained about six and a half feet (2 meters). To keep the helipad from detracting aesthetically from them, it’s painted grey.

Major refit on 73.7m superyacht Ilona completed by Amels

Reported to be at the Amels yard last August for a major refit, the 73.7m motor yacht Ilona was recently spotted on the Côte d'Azur, showing her new face.

Ilona was launched by Amels in 2004 to a design by Redman Whiteley Dixon and turned many heads with her special helicopter garage in the aft deck. But after cruising her extensively around the world, her owner decided it was time to make some changes. 'The owner wanted to have a large swimming pool and a helipad large enough to take his Agusta 109 Grand New helicopter,' says David McQueen, the owner's representative.

The plan swung into action with pre-engineering and manufacturing works done in advance so that the refit could be completed in record time once the yacht arrived at the yard.

In place of the helicopter garage a large 10m by 3m swimming pool was created with a movable floor and a maximum depth of 1.5m. The 40,000 litres of sea water necessary to fill it are purified and 'can be heated to up to 6 degrees higher than the original sea temperature in just one hour,' adds McQueen.

The addition of the new helipad posed a real challenge to preserve the sleek original design of Redman Whiteley Dixon. As Justin Redman explains, 'Adding the additional superstructure to accommodate the helipad would have affected the lines of the yacht, so we extended the owner’s deck and the bridge deck by 2 metres in order to bring the aesthetic appearance back into balance. We also used metallic grey paint to reduce the visual impact of the helideck, and the overall result is that the yacht, despite all the changes, looks every bit as streamlined and well-proportioned as before.'

The 37th refit by the dedicated Amels Refit Department was a real success, as confirmed by Ilona 's captain, Kenan Seginer: 'I really like Amels , they’re very friendly and great to work with. They’ve done a wonderful job with Ilona , and the after-sales team is excellent. The boss is very happy, and any work we need doing in the future, for sure we’ll be coming back to Amels again.'

The refit was completed ahead of schedule on 16 May 2012, and the yacht arrived in Antibes few weeks later, ready in time for the coming season.

In 2016 she was sent back to Amels for a refit, where the swimming pool was added, among other features. She was refitted again in 2018 by Abeking & Rasmussen.

Redman Whiteley Dixon has a large portfolio, designing 21 yachts and 59 yacht exteriors throughout their career.

Specifications

The ILONA Yacht is powered by twin diesel Caterpillar Engines, reaching top speeds of 19 knots while her cruising speed sits at a comfortable 15 knots with a maximum range of 6000 nautical miles.

Built in 1999, the 45m displacement cruising yacht Ilona was a significant custom build for Pendennis at the time, being the first luxury motor yacht to be built at the yard. The vessel was designed by Dubois Naval Architects and with interior styling by Redman Whiteley Dixon. She provides spacious and luxurious accommodation for her Owners, 12 guests and crew.

By taking great care with the design and layout of the yacht, Ilona’s original Owners successfully achieved the impression of spacious grandeur unusual in a yacht of her size. She has, for instance, six guest staterooms, each incorporating en-suite shower rooms finished in verde Rajahstan marble. Other features in the interior include mahogany panelling to the dado rail combined with pale fabrics and carpets and mahogany briar furnishings. The overall impression is of calm sophistication and spacious luxury. She also features a helicopter landing pad equipped with refuelling capability, fitness centre and a top-deck spa bath.

The 257’ superyacht Amaryllis apparently owned by exiled Russian oligarch Andrey Borodin was towed past Palm Beach, FL on Friday morning, according to a visual account by CorpGov .

The yacht, whose owner is frequently cited as Mr. Borodin by enthusiast publications, moved slowly through the Lake Worth lagoon where bridges were raised for its passage. A towboat with flashing lights about 150 feet ahead pulled the Amaryllis , built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2011.

While CorpGov could not officially confirm Mr. Borodin as the owner of the vessel, his wife, socialite Tatiana Korsakova, has posted dozens of Instagram photos and videos aboard the Amaryllis. A yacht broker interviewed by CorpGov confirmed that Ms. Korsakova is indeed aboard the Amaryllis in the photos and videos.

The sighting comes as billions of dollars in Russian-owned yachts have been seized around the world as a result of international sanctions. CNN has published an extensive list of seized vessels, which were taken in harbor cities including Mallorca, Spain and London.

However, it is unclear if the Amaryllis was being seized or voluntarily towed. Very large yachts often choose to be towed because bridges are required to raise for them, according to the yacht broker.

The former Bank of Moscow chief was granted political asylum in the UK in February 2013 after fleeing what he alleged to be politically-motivated fraud and embezzlement charges. Mr. Borodin would go on to be tried and convicted in abstentia in Russian Court in 2018, but not before managing to enlist a number of prominent American lawmakers to lobby Washington for a U.S. visa. Despite Russian extradition requests to the UK government, Borodin’s controversial attempts to make large donations to the NHS, and the uncovering of an assassination plot against his life, the fugitive banker remains overseas, having been granted access to his Swiss bank accounts and having made several notable London real estate purchases during his time in exile.

Mr. Borodin is widely listed as a billionaire, but his total wealth remains difficult to confirm accurately, with the governments of Switzerland and the Bahamas having been asked to help the Russian government in its legal case. In 2012, Borodin purchased the UK’s then-most expensive home, an 80-hectare 18th-century estate in Oxfordshire, for upwards of $217 million. In 2017 he was granted access to personal Swiss accounts holding a reported $378 million. The Amaryllis was purchased for a reported $120 million.

Mr. Borodin did not immediately respond to an emailed query from CorpGov , while the FBI declined to comment. An emailed query to The Department of Homeland Security was not returned.
