A spectacular archipelago of over a thousand palm-fringed islands, Florida Keys are a natural paradise for exquisite sailing vacations. Boasting breathtaking coral reefs, azure waters, and gentle breezes, this is one of the world’s most captivating sailing destinations, making a Florida Keys yacht charter an adventure to remember.

From stunning beaches and snorkeling sites to abandoned sea fortresses, mysterious shipwrecks, and iconic bars once frequented by Ernest Hemingway himself, each Florida Keys island holds its own distinct charm and allure.

Reasons to Charter a Yacht in the Florida Keys

Home to bohemian artists, shipwrights of New England, wealthy merchants, and Cuban rum smugglers at one time, the Florida Keys still possess an atmosphere of irreverence and laidback island living – along with exclusive high-end resorts and premier marinas hosting luxury yachts.

Whether it’s enjoying a Rum Runner during the happy hour at Sloppy Joe’s or relaxing at the elite Palm Island resort, Florida Keys has got it all. Add incredible scenery, rich marine life, colorful reefs and fish, amazing beaches, and an array of excellent diving and snorkeling sites, and it’s no wonder why Florida Keys yacht charter experiences have few rivals.

Below, we share our top three reasons to charter a yacht in the Florida Keys:

Gorgeous Scenery

Pristine palm-dotted beaches, powdery white sand, and crystal-clear waters shimmering in hues of turquoise and aquamarine are Florida Keys’ signature scenery worthy of a postcard.

Tropical islands, the magical underwater world of coral reefs, and remote nature preserves matching the allure of the Everglades National Park set Florida Keys apart as a truly remarkable sailing destination boasting dreamy landscapes resembling Tahiti and the Caribbean.

Scuba Diving Heaven

Thanks to its proximity to the Florida Reef and numerous shipwreck sites, the Keys are a treasure chest for scuba divers.

From thrilling deep-sea diving to exploring artificial reefs of sunken warships to family fun snorkeling above the corals, no Florida Keys sailing vacation would be complete without experiencing its enchanting riches under the sea.

Colorful History

The Florida Keys has a unique cultural heritage stamped with Caribbean and Cuban influences, a colorful history of pirates, salvagers, and Prohibition-era smugglers, and the legacy of Ernest Hemingway, giving the islands an artsy, bohemian aura.

Whether it's visiting the famous novelist’s favorite watering holes in Key West or exploring abandoned ghost towns and sea fortresses dating back to the Civil War years, Florida Keys offer a glimpse into a different world of nostalgic Americana.

Featured Florida Keys Yacht Charter Destinations

While it’s easy to cruise along the Florida Keys chain, taking in the views and stepping ashore to explore the island lifestyle improvising the route as you go along, several Keys stand out as exceptional.

Below, we list some of the most iconic destinations for Florida Keys yacht charters:

Known for its vibrant atmosphere, historical significance, and artistic community, Key West has a character of its own. Sunset celebrations at Mallory Square, a pilgrimage to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, and a night out on Duval Street are par for the course in Key West.

Unlike the glitzy, high-energy Miami Beach, Key West's South Beach and Higgs Beach are more laidback boasting soft white sands and crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling.

The island’s proximity to both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean means excellent fishing opportunities.

Key West is also the end point of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, a 1000-mile sailing route connecting New England and Florida famous for its beautiful scenery and spots few land-bound tourists get to see.

Marathon Key

Situated in the middle of the Keys, Marathon is perfect for nature lovers and water enthusiasts. The Dolphin Research Center, beautiful snorkeling sites, and stunning views from the Seven Mile Bridge are ideal for family fun, while adventure seekers will enjoy fishing for mahi-mahi and tuna.

Located just eighteen miles from the glittering Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay and home to the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Key Largo is a natural paradise for scuba divers. Located near the Florida Reef – the third-largest barrier reef in the world - Key Largo is a gateway into an extraordinary world of underwater wonders.

Natural coral and fish diversity aside, experienced divers flock to Key Largo to explore the shipwreck of USS Spiegel Grove, a warship purposely scuttled just off the coast of the island. Comparable to the world’s largest artificial reef, the USS Oriskany warship sunk in the Gulf of Mexico just off the coast of Pensacola, the USS Spiegel Grove shipwreck is a treasure trove for dedicated divers.

In addition to diving, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boat tours, Key Largo is known for its relaxed atmosphere and casual charm, along with cozy local bars and great seafood cuisine.

A bustling community in the early 1800s, Indian Key served as a thriving hub for shipwreck salvaging. During that period, ships would often run aground on the reefs around the island, and ingenious salvagers would come to the rescue of the crews and passengers – and claim the wrecked vessels for themselves.

Now, the island is uninhabited, lending it an eerie ghost town feel. History buffs will appreciate the opportunity to explore the ruins of the old settlement.

Accessible by boat or kayak only, Indian Key offers seclusion and tranquility, and its shallow waters, corals, and rich marine wildlife are ideal for snorkeling.

Plantation Key

Beloved by luxury yacht guests seeking authentic experiences, Plantation Key has a laidback atmosphere and is largely untouched by the hustle and bustle of the more tourist-saturated spots in the Florida Keys.

With easy access to Key Largo and Islamorada, Plantation Key is a great launchpad for water-based activities from kayaking and paddleboarding to scuba diving and fishing. The island’s Anne’s Beach is a popular highlight boasting shallow blue waters and a boardwalk stretching over seagrass beds.

Windley Key

A small but beautiful island with a charming marina, Windley Key is best known for its Fossil Reef Geological State Park, showcasing an ancient coral reef that dates back over sixty million years.

For nature lovers, Windley Key offers a network of scenic hiking trails, and its peaceful ambience provides a welcome break.

Bahia Honda Key

Home to the Bahia Honda State Park, Bahia Honda Key is renowned for its picturesque white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, and opportunities for snorkeling, hiking, and wildlife watching.

A virtually uninhabited tropical paradise, Bahia Honda is a perfect getaway in unspoiled nature and spectacular sunset views over the Gulf of Mexico.

Dry Tortugas

The westernmost island chain of the Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas hides unique treasures above and below the sea.

The Seven Dry Tortugas islands are home to the most pristine coral reefs in the region, abundant marine life, and sunken shipwrecks.

The island’s natural beauty aside, its key feature is the historic Fort Jefferson, a colossal fortress that served as a prison during the Civil War years.

When to Visit: Florida Keys Weather

Florida Keys is a year-round sailing destination thanks to its tropical climate. The best weather is between March and May, while the winter months and early spring are favored by sailing yacht enthusiasts due to stronger winds.

The only period to avoid is June through to November -hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Cost of a Florida Keys Yacht Rentals

Yacht rentals in the Florida Keys have different price points depending on the charter boat’s type, size, and amenities on board.

A motor yacht with the capacity for 2-6 guests can cost between $25,000 - $45,000 per week. For charter yachts with larger capacity, expect to spend $60,000 and upward, whereas a luxury yacht charter with a professional crew (unlike bareboat charter) can cost anywhere between $100,000 - $200,000 per week or more.

Find Florida Yacht Charters That Offer the Right Features

Choosing a private yacht for that unforgettable sailing holiday is all about personal preferences.

Whether you hope to set sail and relax on the deck, jump into the water for action and adventure, or entertain a group of guests, it’s important to look for yacht charters with specific features to cater to your individual needs.

Here are some of the key luxury yacht features to consider:

Florida Keys is a paradise for swimming, snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and just about any other water sport. If you’re looking to experience the best of those azure blue waters, charter a yacht with jet skis, paddleboards, kayaks, foils, or snorkeling equipment on board.

Spacious Decks and Cabins

Comfortable, well-appointed cabins and spacious decks are a must on a luxury yacht, especially if you’re embarking on a longer voyage and expect comfort and easy access to the water.

A hot tub or a jacuzzi on deck enhances the sailing experience, especially on those breezy Florida Keys evenings when enjoying a sunset with a cocktail in hand.

How much is a charter boat in Key West?

While a day charter in Key West may cost between $2,500 and $5,000, most weekly yacht charters in the Florida Keys start at around $25,000 per week.

What is required to rent a boat in Florida Keys?

Unless you’re aiming for a bareboat charter, there’s no need for a boating license or sailing experience to rent a crewed yacht in the Florida Keys.

Overnight Getaway Pics-

The Florida Keys extend from the southern edge of Florida, southwest into the Gulf of Mexico. At land's end stands the island of Key West, the southern most point of the continental United States of America.

The inhabitants of this Florida enclave are an eclectic group made up of artists, entrepreneurs, retirees, writers and those who consider themselves to be living an 'alternative' or 'eccentric' lifestyle.

The local atmosphere is decidedly laid back as the biggest commitment on the island seems to be the almost subconscious daily gathering of people to watch the gorgeous sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.

Yacht charters reimagined.

A Key West yacht charter takes you to some of the most beautiful aquatic environments in the United States. Designated a national marine sanctuary, the lower Florida keys host an almost limitless variety of fish, birds, and mammals. Anchor your rental boat at one of a thousand secluded spots and spend an afternoon snorkeling or scuba diving among the brightly colored tropical fish.

Seven miles south of Key West you’ll find the world’s third-largest barrier reef, with its own unique underwater ecosystem. A short sail up the island chain will bring you to Bahia honda key, where miniature key deer can be seen roaming the state park. As their name implies, miniature key deer are native to the Florida Keys and found nowhere else in the world.

Key West Yacht Scuba & Snorkel Charters

If it’s an adventure you’re looking for, have the yacht’s captain take you to the many shipwrecks located all around Key West. Some lie in shallow water and are easily reached by snorkelers. Others will require scuba gear, like the USS Vandenberg.

A former World War II troop transport ship, the Vandenberg was scuttled south of Key West in 2009, forming the second-largest intentionally sunk artificial reef in the world. Rising from the seafloor 140 feet down, the superstructure of the Vandenberg lies just 50 feet below the surface, making the wreck accessible to nearly all levels of scuba divers.

Florida Keys Destinations Untouched

70 miles due west lie the Dry Tortugas, a group of islands first explored by Ponce de Leon in 1513, and one of the most popular destinations for Key West yacht rentals. So impressed by the abundance of sea turtles in the area, Ponce de Leon named the islands Las Tortugas , The Turtles. (“Dry” was added later when it was discovered the islands had no fresh-water springs). On your own private yacht charter, you can explore Las Tortugas’ famous coral reefs and sandy beaches at your leisure.

Designated a national park in 1935, special permits are required to camp overnight on the islands, but day trips via ferry or private yacht are easily made from Key West. While Ponce de Leon never found what he was looking for (The Fountain of Youth), you’re sure to discover the restorative and relaxing powers of the islands’ aqua blue waters and radiant sunshine. And when you’re here, don’t forget to visit Fort Jefferson, a massive fortress built by the Army Corp of Engineers years before the Civil War.

Key West Yachts Fully Provisioned

Located between the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, Key West is the perfect staging point for voyages both short and long. Provisioning your yacht for a cruise is simply a matter of visiting the local supermarkets or sending a shopping list ahead of time. Your boat will be fully stocked and ready to go when you arrive, allowing you the freedom to get underway quickly and easily.

If you are bareboating, allow time for a full review of the boat’s operation systems, including sail handling, docking procedures, navigation and communication equipment, and all safety gear. Plan on a couple of hours for this very important portion of your trip. Experience in sailing boats of equal size and type is required, so don’t forget to bring the appropriate licenses or certificates, if applicable.

Gateway To The Caribbean

Located so close to the Caribbean, it’s not uncommon for Key West yacht rentals to visit international ports of call. Head southwest and the Yucatan peninsula is a week charter. Due East lie the Bahamas. From there it’s a game of hopscotch, island to island, country to country, down the Caribbean archipelago.  Near or far, if you bareboat, you’ll need to file a sail plan with your charter company, including all ports you plan to visit. Of course, changes can be made en route so long as you keep the company notified.

Key West is one of the most romantic places in the world for a destination wedding. The island’s famously spectacular sunsets offer the perfect backdrop for saying “I do”. There’s only one thing that could make it better: holding your reception aboard an equally spectacular Key West yacht rentals. All-inclusive reception cruises are available for wedding parties as large as 300 guests.

Planning Your Wedding Or Event

For such a big and important event, you probably don’t know where to begin, so talk to us. Key West Charter Boat will book your dream yacht, complete with captain, crew and wedding planner. Customize your reception exactly the way you always imagined it, from floral arrangements to food & beverage menus to the perfect song for the bride and groom’s first dance.

Key West yacht rentals can be chartered for as little as an hour or as long as several weeks. Knowing the size and nature of your party will help make the selection process faster and easier, so please take a minute to fill out a quote form. Some of the larger yachts are in constant demand, so the earlier we know your reservation dates the better.

If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to give us a call or use the live chat feature on our website. With years of local knowledge to draw upon, our goal isn’t to simply book you a yacht. It’s to match you with the perfect yacht for your needs and make it unforgettable.

It was our parents 50th anniversary, we wanted to do something special.  Chartering a yacht in Key West was hands down the best choice we could have made.  Our parents loved it and our memories will last a lifetime.

Florida Yacht Charter Guide

Florida yacht charters have a spectacular array of unique destinations for both sailing yachts and motor yachts, mega yachts and crewed boats; from Miami, Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale to the scattered islands of the Florida Keys and the Bahamas where fishing and snorkelling spots are myriad.

Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, there are also 30,000 lakes within the state and both locals and businesses have a strong attachment to hobbies involving the water: Jet skis, water skis and kite surfers are familiar sights along the beaches while Scuba diving schools use the gentle Gulf Stream currents to teach beginners drift diving. Florida yacht charterer itineraries can follow the inter-coastal highway and select from numerous seaside towns, great secluded anchorages, excellent marina facilities and pristine beaches that stretch for miles.

Feadship Yacht HARLE

To the northeast Jacksonville and Daytona Beach are both popular areas for fishing and whale watching, with the latter also home to the Daytona 500 NASCAR race with free concerts throughout the summer.

Miami is a desirable cosmopolitan destination where guests can spend hours in luxury boutiques, galleries and museums, savouring first-class fine dining or unwinding on the soft sandy beaches that stretch up the coast past Hollywood. Find your own secluded fishing and sunbathing spot among the Florida Keys, which boast a wide variety of fish in crystal clear water.

Dolphins are often observed within the warm waters around St. Petersburg, which offers quiet cruising in protected areas and at night the city has a thriving nightlife with restaurants, bars and live music. Sunsets over the ocean in Florida are often a powerful event that attracts many people to the shoreline.

The Florida Yachting Season:

Florida is ideal for yacht charters year round, however from late July to early October the east coast of America and the Bahamas can be prone to hurricanes and therefore late spring/early summer or the winter holidays prove popular times to visit. As one of the largest yacht charter grounds, there is a massive assortment of yacht charters available in Florida, including motor yachts, sailing yachts, crewed yachts, luxury catamarans and of course superyacht charters. Find a luxury charter to suit you and your group and contact CharterWorld.

The Cost to Charter a Yacht in Florida:

The price of a yacht charter in Florida varies from $24,500 USD per week plus expenses to more than $1,000,000 USD per week for a mega yacht, depending upon the size of yacht chosen and it’s on board facilities. Expenses such as fuel, food and drinks are paid in advance as an Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) which usually comes to 30% of the charter price depending on how much is spent. All-inclusive yacht charters are also available and cost between $ 20,000 USD and $ 50,000 USD per week. You can browse the latest Florida yacht charter special offers here , see a price list for American yachts here , or contact the expert brokers at CharterWorld directly for more information.

Florida yacht charters are not only in a beautiful and diverse yacht charter location but are also the door to a wonderland of cruising pleasure - the Florida Keys and the Bahamas .

Some call Florida the king of yacht charter vacations. Indeed, Florida does have some of the largest gatherings of charter yachts worldwide. The state of Florida is synonymous with water - it has two coastal borders in the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico and is home to some 30,000 lakes. Florida yacht charterers can follow the intercoastal highway; with it's myriad of secluded cove beaches, seaside towns, great anchorages and excellent marina facilities, for miles and miles.

10 of the Best Florida Yacht Charter Destinations

When the Caribbean and Bahamas are so close Florida can be overlooked as a luxury yacht charter destination, yet the region is home to many exemplary fishing grounds while turtles, dolphins and manatees swim close to the pristine beaches.

Fort Lauderdale and Miami have both established themselves among the yachting community and those in the know don't need to stray far from the mainland for a tropical paradise or high-end shopping opportunities. Read on to discover 10 fantastic locations to visit within the Florida charter grounds that are easy to incorporate into a charter itinerary designed for everyone in your group.

1. Fort Lauderdale

Incredible beaches, impressive art galleries and the top-rated marina and yachting club draw luxury yacht charter groups year after year to Fort Lauderdale. Located directly west of the Bahamas, the airport also provides quick and efficient connections to international flights. Visitors can easily fill a day indulging in high-end shopping, savouring the high quality cuisine or sitting out in the sunshine and fishing in the bay.

If you visit in late October/early November, head to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show to see the industry's latest innovations and stunning superyachts.

The silky coast along South Beach is the place to be for sunbathing and people-watching, playing horse polo, jetting along on your motorised water toys or partying the night away.

The coastal clubs and bars cater to all tastes, from upbeat and noisy to laid back and sophisticated, with romantic art deco architecture along the streets. Holidaymakers should stop by at the famous Nikki Beach Club to experience for themselves the food, drinks and atmosphere that gives this place such a stellar reputation.

Florida Keys Snorkeling

3. Key West

Among the Florida Keys, Key West has an abundance of islands to explore and the shallow water around the beaches and archipelagos is perfect for younger children to practise their snorkelling and kayaking. A visit on land is a must to see the Earnest Hemingway Home and Museum, the Audubon House & Tropical Gardens and the winter home of President Harry S. Truman, set within the picturesque and verdant town.

4. Key Largo

Key Largo is excellent for Scuba divers for all ability levels with gentle drift diving in the Gulf Stream for beginners, and wreck dives and sites such as Christ of the Abyss for the more experienced. Snorkelers also have the opportunity to see and swim with sea turtles, manatees and whales at such locations as the Key Largo Undersee Park.

5. Ten Thousand Islands

Only Marco Island is inhabited amongst the Ten Thousand Islands at the south-western tip of Florida, leaving an abundance of untouched verdant isles to discover by paddleboard or kayak. Snorkel with dolphins and manatee within this national wildlife refuge, then use the fine grain beaches to rest and recuperate before a romantic sunset meal at your secluded retreat.

6. Clearwater

The powder-soft white sand beach of Clearwater might be where you want to spend your whole holiday, but the area has a myriad more sights and activities to explore: Swim with dolphins, windsurf or learn how to jet ski in the crystal clear waters, then join the parties in the local bars or host your own aboard your superyacht.

Fishing is particularly good in the Gulf Stream off the coast, and charter guests can take an afternoon to laze in the sunshine while catching lunch.

The Florida Keys East Cape Skiffs - Fishing

7. Sarasota

The gentle waves and shallow water at Lido Key Beach make this stretch of coast a hit with young families, while those looking for more privacy for a romantic candlelit meal have Passage Key and Egmont Key State Park. Snorkel, Scuba dive and kayak through mangroves and watch schools of fish swimming beneath your group.

As a town with a burgeoning artists' community, a visit to Sarasota will be filled with crafts and opportunities to find statement pieces for your home and that memorable souvenir of your trip.

8. Sanibel Island

Nature lovers will feel reinvigorated on Sanibel Island, where the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge covers half of the land and children will be enthralled by the 250 different kinds of shells washed ashore at Sanibel Beach.

Shop at the scenic Periwinkle Place before returning to the coast to watch a captivating sunset, then party the night away on you sundeck and enjoy a cocktail under the stars.

9. Captiva Island

North of Sanibel Island, the western beaches continue and visitors can stroll along the sands for miles, snorkel with fish and other friendly sea creatures or zip through the water with the Seabobs and jet skis from the water toys collection on board.

There is little to do but relax and play games with family and friends - a perfect escape for quality time together after visiting towns bursting with land-based attractions.

As the name suggests, this town takes its architectural inspiration from Italy and caters to the luxury lifestyle with high-end shops, golf courses and miles of white sand beach where the group can play games or take a stroll along the pier.

Fishing and dolphin-spotting are common pastimes, and attractions such as The Revs Institute for classic cars ensure that guests have something to do off their luxury yacht even on rainy days or during periods of intense heat.

Florida Keys Yacht Charters

Your luxury florida keys vacation awaits.

When considering where we want to go on a yacht charter, many of us are strangely blind to the astonishing experiences right on our doorstep. A Florida yacht charter offers all the ingredients of a brilliant, life-changing yacht charter: coconut palms and crystal clear seas, white sand beaches and pristine coral reefs. Florida is a place where you’ll find water sports and wildlife refuges, boutique shopping and street parties buzzing with a deep Calypso beat. Florida also offers some of the best reef diving on the planet, as well as a rich history of pirates, shipwrecks and clashing empires.

The aquamarine waters of the Florida Keys

Beginning your Florida yacht charter in Miami, you can explore this buzzing city of art deco and skyscrapers, white sandy beaches and waving palm trees. Shop in the glamorous boutiques, eat in the world-class restaurants, and party in some seriously good VIP clubs. Head to Little Havana, where old men play dominos and smoke cigars, and Cuban music drifts from coffee houses and wood-panelled bars. Offshore you can indulge in the sports fishing that Florida is so famous for, or head inland to look for alligators as you fly through long sea-grasses of the Everglades in an airboat.

Miami as seen from offshore on your own private yacht

As you leave the bright lights of Miami behind and cruise slowly down to the famed Florida Keys on your private yacht, you’ll discover a place that inhabits a special place in the American imagination- a place both blissfully tranquil and slightly, endearingly mad. A Florida yacht charter is the only way to do the Florida Keys justice, as you explore this desperately pretty archipelago curving out from the coast like a necklace of islands in a sapphire sea.

The Florida Keys are unique. Perhaps it’s the quintessential experience of eating a slice of Key Lime Pie under the coconut palms, or visiting Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key West. Perhaps it’s walking the streets lined with old Spanish architecture, or spending an afternoon browsing the fashionable art galleries of beautiful Islamadora. Perhaps it’s the dazzling mix of locals: the Bohemians, the fishermen, the drifters, the Hispanics, the native ‘Conches’- and the gentle acceptance of all types who end up here. Perhaps it’s the old-world sight of animals in the streets- the odd goat or donkey wandering along a village road dusted with beach sand, or the chicken that strolls right past your restaurant table.

A canoe in the shallow coastal waters of Florida

As you venture deeper in the Keys you’ll find that the incredible reef mostly prevents the soft white sand from reaching the beaches. But never fear, you can always drop anchor off one of the perfect sandbars to enjoy a day of snorkelling and picnics. Spend relaxing days diving for lobster, handing your catch to the yacht’s chef to grill up for lunch on deck. Wake up early to go wakeboarding around the yacht, or jump on a paddleboard for an adventure through the mangrove forests, where shy manatees and fish hide in the shallows.

Fort Jefferson

The sunsets in this part of the world are breathtaking- so breathtaking that crowds gather upon the shores to watch, and then the street party begins, with tumbling acrobats and fire-eaters and rum punch flowing under the stars. Or of course, you can just watch the sunsets from your yacht- perhaps while sitting in the Jacuzzi with a cocktail, warm Florida air blowing across your bare shoulders as you watch the sea become a shifting canvas of burnished reds and golds.

This year, why not leave all your worries behind and embrace Florida time, with a luxury yacht charter in the Sunshine State.

Kenneth and Monica were so warm and helpful, and they truly wanted to make sure that we had an excellent experience. As an example, we were interested in snorkeling, so Kenny swam over to different snorkeling destinations and snorkeled himself to preview the best area for us to see the most fish. Great people!

Hello, we are Capt. Kenny and Capt. Monica. Living aboard License To Chill for over 15 years now and still loving it! Beginning in New Jersey in October 2008 we cruised south on the Intracoastal Waterway to Palm beach Florida. Normally a 14 day trip we stretched to 4 months! From there we crossed over to the Bahamas spending another 3 months exploring the Abacos. A month later we ended up in Key West. We now refer to that time as our 8 month honeymoon. We intended to stay a few months in the Keys. Well we're still here 16 years later! Almost from the very beginning, one of our most enjoyable times was having guest on board and sharing our lifestyle and adventures. That is still true today. Please come aboard, make some memories and be a part of our story.

FLORIDA KEYS YACHTING

Stiltsville.

yacht charter to Stiltsville

The most notable site on Boca Chita is the 65-foot lighthouse on the island’s western side built in the 1930’s by the island’s original private owner. The lighthouse is not illuminated and is not an official lighthouse for navigation, but when opened by the National Park Service, provides great views of Miami and the Keys.

“kokomo dream”

Kokomo Dream is our introduction to the more northern Florida Keys. You’ll travel by charter yacht to islands approximately 15 miles offshore that are only accessible by private boat. After boarding the yacht in Miami in the morning, we’ll begin by cruising south past Virginia Key and Key Biscayne.

Soldier Key is the first key south of Key Biscayne and lies almost alone. Named for the soldiers who lived there while building the lighthouse at Fowey Rock, this quiet key is a good spot for snorkeling.

Florida Keys yachting

Sands Key is the next Key south, and actually looks like a car key or house key from an aerial view. Sands Key has an undulating shoreline of coves that inspires plenty of exploration.

Your Kokomo Dream cruise will continue southward to Elliott Key. Elliott Key is Biscayne National Park’s largest island and measures a narrow seven miles long. Camp sites are available on Elliott Key, as well as picnicking, swimming, wildlife watching, fishing, hiking, and 36 boat slips. Elliott Key stands out from the previous keys because it is the only one with drinking water.

Just on the southwest side of Elliott Key lies Adams Key. It contains a boat landing, picnic area and nature trail. Some remains indicate where homes for the wealthy stood in the 1920s and 1930s.

yachting to Key Largo

Nicknamed the “Sport Fishing Capital of the World,” Islamorada delights anglers with the best of both worlds – deep sea fishing for sailfish and tuna in the Atlantic Ocean, or back country fishing in Florida Bay for permit and tarpon.

Florida Islamorada yachting

Cruising south on the Atlantic Ocean side, you’ll find Treasure Harbor, followed further south by Whale Harbor Restaurant and Marina, which is across from Windley Harbor on the Bay side. When you are ready to disembark from your Florida rental yacht , other attractions include the Theater of the Sea Marine Mammal Park, and Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, site of a former coral quarry.

Probably the most well known attraction on Islamorada is the 12.5 acre Holiday Isle Beach Resort & Marina and the Islamorada Hotel. This popular resort complex has everything for your yachting vacation, from a full service marina to lively bars, eight restaurants including the Horizon, a wedding venue, and the World Famous Tiki Bar, where the popular “rum runner” drink originated. Top off your visit to Islamorada by shopping for gifts, souvenirs or something just for yourself at the Villages’ many boutiques and galleries.

Duck Key yacht rental

The amenities of Hawks Cay are offered to marina guests. A beautiful salt water lagoon with beach is a great place to while away the hours when you disembark from your charter yacht . Hawks Cay also offers a Dolphin Connection attraction, a fly fishing academy and other nature related activities. A TV show called The Saltwater Experience is filmed at Duck Key – maybe you can catch it live. Popular fishing tournaments for sailfish and tarpon are held on Duck Key every year. Shops and services will have anything you need to make your charter trip more pleasurable.

The Islands of Marathon were originally used as support towns and railroad station sites for the construction of Henry Flagler’s Overseas Railroad. Marathon offers plenty of exploration for your yacht party as you visit its many islands including Boot Key, Knight Key, Hog Key, Vaca Key, Stirrup Key, Crawl and Little Crawl Key, East and West Sister’s Island, Deer Key and Fat Deer Key, Long Pine Key and Grassy Key.

Florida Keys Marathon yachting

Are you itching for a vacation catch of snapper, grouper, tarpon, or mahi-mahi? Fishing is one of Marathon’s main attractions. Whether offshore, reef fishing, back country or flats fishing appeals, you’ll find easy access to either the Atlantic Ocean or Florida Bay.

Family attractions in the Islands of Marathon are headlined by special events including the Original Seafood Festival every March and Conchtober Fest in September. Visit the Turtle Hospital, the Dolphin Research Center, or for a day full of historical and archeological interest, enjoy Crane Point Hammock.

You’ll also want to cruise in your rental boat to Looe Key National Park, where the snorkeling or scuba diving sights rival anywhere in the Florida Keys. An artificial reef created by a sunken ship adds extra exploration opportunities nearby.

dry tortugas

Located 70 miles west of Key West, Florida, the Dry Tortugas is now a national park and consists of Garden Key, Loggerhead Key, Bush Key, Long Key, East Key, Hospital Key and Middle Key. Because this cluster of islands, measuring approximately 80 square miles, lies in the area of water that connects the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean, it was used heavily in the 1800s by the Spanish as a popular shipping channel. There is no fresh drinking water, fuel or food in the islands, and no marinas.

Florida Keys Dry Tortugas charter

Loggerhead Key is only accessible by private boat or your charter yacht . A second Dry Tortugas lighthouse was built on Loggerhead Key in 1856 to help guide ships. The grounds are available for walking around but the lighthouse is not available for tours. The pier is not open for public dockage, so wading or a dinghy are in order. No jet skis are allowed.

The Dry Tortugas offers other sights as well. Boat over to Bush Key which is known as a bird sanctuary and the only US home of the sooty Tern. You may encounter the 46-square mile ecological preserve that protects the marine resources of Dry Tortugas National Park. Sport fishing for tarpon or dolphin is also popular here. And, this unique natural landscape offers sea grass beds, sea turtle and bird nesting habitats.

Key Largo Snorkel Charters

This was my 10th year of staying at KLSC in early March – it continues to be my vacation site of choice – and I’m already in the book or 2016. Great location, amenities and staff. It doesn’t get any better than this.
We had the most wonderful vacation. I want to thank you and your staff. It felt like everyone went out of their way to see our vacation was more then we expected. And it was. If anyone ask me where to go on vacation I only have one answer, “The Key Lime Sailing Club!”
Totally enjoyed our trip, staff was great, my wife had never sailed. She is hooked now, will be back soon, thank you for a great vacation.
Can’t say enough about the staff, perfect! Enjoyed all the watercraft available for use, kids loved the place:) Really enjoyed our stay, Talofa was great, the people and staff really made the trip awesome!
We had an amazing vacation at the Key Lime Club and so much fun sailing in the Keys! The staff were MORE than helpful and so fun to talk with. Loved the relaxed atmosphere, the family feeling at the tiki, and being able to use the water toys was a big plus. Give our love to Captain G, Irene, James and CJ! And thanks again for the sunset sail and the hospitality! We’ll surely recommend the Key Lime Club to others:)
We had a fantastic time. All of the water equipment was awesome! It was so nice not to have to worry about bringing all of that stuff with us. Our home was also equipped with tons of movies and games. What an excellent option for a family to have. Thank you KLSC!
We had a great time at KLSC. The staff was especially wonderful and attentive! We loved it there.
Sailing was great and your staff was very accommodating and top notch.Hello to Capt. G, Irene and Jeff
Perfect for our family vacation. Not over commercialized and a great place to get outside and discover things! Out boys loved it.
We were so pleasantly surprised at Key Lime North! Breathtaking, beautiful, and very hard to leave! Sandra, Nick, and Heather were wonderful, helpful, and will be our lifetime friends. Paulie made everything special including remembering birthdays and beyond! Captain Sheldon was a fantastic sailing instructor. Nothing beats this vacation!
We LOVED our stay and your hospitality. Everyone went above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable, including John from Michigan who took us out in his sailboat one afternoon. That was definitely our treasure of the week, spending time visiting with him while sailing. Diamond in the rough, so glad we stayed! Definitely would book here again if the Keys were our destination.

Captain Charter

Sit back and relax on your own private yacht while a professional takes the helm to show you the best of the Florida Keys. We offer multi-night yacht charter vacations. All of our Captain Charters have a minimum of 4 days/3 nights which is the ideal amount of time to experience one of our Florida Keys sailing itineraries . Learn more about what to expect aboard a Captain Charter with Florida Yachts Charters.

Captain Selection

Captains, cooks & mates, life aboard, family friendly & kids aboard.

We are required under USCG regulations that define bareboat charter to allow you to choose your own captain. We will not assign one for you. We can provide more information of those captains who are familiar with our operations, the waters of the Florida Keys and our vessels. Should you already have a captain we require they complete our captain’s application for approval.

Captains, Cooks & Mates, Oh My!

Unless you are on a sailing course, when you interview potential captains to hire for your charter, they will ask you about prior boating experience and your ability in assisting with things like, picking up moorings balls, anchoring, dock lines and ability to manage the vessel in an emergency situation . If no one aboard would qualify to fulfill the role of 1st mate they will require you also hire a mate. Some mates can act as cook for an additional rate while others are only able to act as a mate. Adding a cook means they take care of all the meal planning, provisioning, cooking and clean up, a splendid addition to your experience. If you are unfamiliar with provisioning and cooking aboard a vessel this is a highly recommended choice.

Captains generally charge $450-500 a day, first mates $250 & Cooks $275.00, plus their food & beverages. For Cooks, they charge a full day for planning & provisioning time before your charter start. A 15 – 20% gratuity is industry standard for services well rendered.

Life Aboard a Captain Charter in the Florida Keys

Life aboard a yacht in the Florida Keys can take you to some beautiful anchorages, snorkel sights and secluded beaches. Your yacht will have all the comforts of a boutique hotel. The galley has just about everything your kitchen at home has so cooking aboard will be seamless. Refrigeration aboard vessels is much smaller than at home, and monohulls have very tiny freezer space. While all our vessels are equipped with Generators and ACs for comfort at anchor, while underway you will not be able to run the Generator, therefore you will not have AC until you reach a mooring ball or anchorage for the night. Most guests open the hatches while underway for a nice tropical breeze. As a result of Covid, we have taken the decision to not supply masks & snorkels for safety reasons over sanitation. We do sell good qualify snorkel/masks set and rent fins. We have local companies that can rent paddleboards & kayaks.

Families & Kids Aboard your Captain Charter

Key West & the Florida Keys is a great family friendly boating destination. The captains in this area know all the best places for spotting dolphins, snorkeling and a relaxing night at anchor. For safety reasons there are few things to note about having kids aboard when considering a captain charter with children:

  • Bring along or plan to buy children’s life jackets. They are weight specific up to a certain age and we don’t offer them. Children are required to wear a life vest at all times while on deck, if your children have never worn a life jacket we recommend purchasing ahead of time and practice wearing, otherwise they will be stuck below deck with an adult.
  • Our captains are professional and great with kids but it is important that a parent, guardian or designated adult keep an eye on them at all times. Your captain and mate will be very busy attending to navigation, sailing, and everyone’s overall safety and should not be relied upon to be watching children should you be absent. There are many things for kids to bump their heads on, interesting buttons to push and lines to grab. An interesting tip we recently read to ensure authority has been passed from one parent/guardian to the next is to use the phrase “Your Jane and John” and make sure the other adult responds “My Jane and John;” inserting your kids names into this phrase of course. This way you know that they know you are no longer watching the kids. If you are a pilot you may be familiar with this tip, as it was modified by parents who were former pilots for around the water safety at home.
  • It may also be a good idea to talk with your kids (depending on the age) about power, water and toilet management. You will potentially be away from the dock for several days at a time. All our vessels are equipped with Generators and AC’s but these items are additional amenities and should there be a mechanical failure you may not have access to additional power and AC until it can be repaired. Depending on your itinerary you may also be without WiFi or cell phone access from time to time.
