  • Superyacht Recruitment Agencies
  • Recruitment

Finding a job on a Superyacht is not always an easy process, and can be confusing if you haven’t had the right support or advice.

To make your new career path a little bit easier, we have listed some of the best Superyacht Recruitment Agencies that have found jobs for our customers in the past.

Much like how a general recruitment agency operates, a Superyacht Recruitment Agency’s job is to find their clients (Superyachts) suitable candidates for all positions onboard, from Deckhands to Captains.

Agencies work by utilising their database of contacts and industry relationships to connect the right person with the right Superyacht.

Superyacht Recruitment Agencies can help you find that dream job, we recommend that all new crew sign up with a few Recruitment Agencies.

Remember, before registering with the Superyacht Recruitment agency, you must be qualified as a Stewardesses and Deckhands.

What do Superyacht Recruitment Agents do?

The primary role of a Superyacht Recruitment agent is to place the best-suited candidate onto a Superyacht. A lot of time and money goes into placing candidates; picking the right candidate for the role is essential to ensure the smooth running of the yacht. Agents have a responsibility to the new crew to ensure the yacht they are placed on is safe, and the crew are treated fairly. Therefore, almost all the agencies, comply with the MLC (Marine Labour Convention) and all advertised jobs and contracts issued comply with the regulations.

A legitimate Superyacht Recruitment agent will ask you to enrol on their database and provide personal details, and you will be asked to upload your CV and qualifications. The Recruitment Agency will complete background checks and may look at your Social media profile. What they won’t do is ask you for any money upfront or pay for any services or advice.

Should you use a Superyacht Recruitment Agency

Superyacht Recruitment Agents are by far the best way of finding a job on a Superyacht, as both parties benefit if you find a job. Our advice is to register with multiple recruitment agents while in the UK and keep in touch with them on a regular basis. The recruitment agents will provide honest advice on your CV and how you should find that dream job – they are there to help.

Friends and family

If you have friends or family working in the industry, now is the time to contact them and see if they know of any jobs that may suit your skills. Yachts love recommendations, especially from crew working in the industry, as they understand the role and can reassure the Captain or Chief Stew that they are making the right choice.

Using a range of sources to find work will put you in a great position, and signing up to a Superyacht Recruitment Agency is an important part of the process. Because of their good relationships with employers, they are often the first to hear about new jobs, or may even have exclusive access to work that won’t be posted online.

The agency will provide CV advice and interview techniques. After all, it is in their interest to make you as employable as possible, this is how they make their money!

Looking for Superyacht jobs online

As you can imagine, there are many Facebook groups, Superyachts use social media to post jobs directly online. Most Superyacht Recruitment Agencies will have Facebook and Instagram pages with loads of content. As well as Recruitment Agency pages, there are many Facebook groups, Antibes yacht crew and Palma yacht Crew are some of our favorites, but there are many more.

Consider signing up to YotSpot

Thousands of roles are posted on Yotspot, and it is popular for greenie positions. Be sure to take your time setting up your profile and checking the site regularly to apply for suitable positions. Yotspot is very competitive, and you may find you are one of a few hundred that has applied for a role and may not get a reply if you are unsuccessful. Having trained with Flying Fish, you have an advantage over most green crew, so stick at it!

Online Yacht Crew Agencies

Outside of the official crew agency websites, there are a handful of yacht-crew job listing / searching websites for all levels of crew positions. A few serve as résumé/CV hosting sites, and their goal is to provide captains/owners and crew with a means to connect directly with each other during the hiring process, without an intermediary (crew agent). I definitely recommend giving these types of “cyber agencies” a shot. The three online yacht crew agencies that I list below are not only verified, but I’ve received very positive feedback with regard to all three. I recommend subscribing to the RSS feeds of these sites and following them on social media to keep an eye on job postings.

Here’s how these agencies work: Crew are able to register for free, whereby they can post a résumé/CV and then view active positions on the site, applying to any position for which there’s a fit. Note that you’ll be replying directly to the employers; in other words, there’s no middle man. It’s the employers—likely captains and owners—who are paying for the service (and are how these agencies make money).

So, with that in mind, know that this method of securing employment is not going to be as useful for novices. And here’s why: The benefit of having your résumé/CV viewed by captains and owners around the world means you would need to be qualified enough to stand out. You would also typically need to be in the same hiring port where a captain can arrange to meet you, and even then, experienced crew will definitely have the most luck. Since it’s a free service, it couldn’t hurt to give it a shot, but you should still attempt using traditional crew agencies and trying to find day work.

Here are the three agencies that I do recommend registering with; although, be realistic in doing so if you are brand-spanking new to the industry with zero experience and no certifications yet:

AgencyDescription

1093 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 (Next to Waxy’s)
Tel: 1-954-764-8995

(worth following for notice of job postings)
Crew4Crew.net was created for yacht captains and owners hiring crew to have direct access to all professional yacht crew available for employment without having to paying commission. Employers pay a subscription fee to access professional yacht-crew CVs and employment files. It was also created to give crew an equal opportunity to be considered for positions without being fielded by an agent (there is no interview requirement). The agency offers commission-free online crew placement and a wide range of job opportunities worldwide.

How Crew4Crew differs from the other online-only placement services (and why it gets my highest recommendation among agencies of this sort) is that they have a physical location in Fort Lauderdale. They offer a serene crew lounge with work stations and Wi-Fi access, where you can go hang and take advantage of in-office crew support, including crew business card production, document scanning, and résumé/CV writing services. Crew4Crew also offers a Managed Qualified Profile service where they create your profile, scan documents, resize and convert files, offer résumé/CV feedback, and update content for six months.

Another cool benefit is that you choose to complete either a “Standard” or “Qualified Profile.” Standard Profile is the basic option and the default when you first register and upload your résumé/CV resume and profile photo. After that, you are made available to employers immediately. A Qualified Profile is the more advanced, professional option that will allow you to set yourself apart from other crew by indicating that your profile meets a certain professional standard. Employers are more likely to find crew efficiently with a Qualified Profile. There is no fee for either option, but with Qualified, you’ll need to get a checklist of the requirements and submit all of their requested information and documents. It’s much more time-consuming, but worth the effort.

Aside from choosing the Qualified Profile option, here are some quick tips for using Crew4Crew.net:
• Log in regularly to keep your profile at the top of the available crew list for the position you are seeking. This also lets employers know you are available.
• Check the Job Posting Board and apply directly to posted positions. The employer’s profile maintains a record of your application and provides a direct link to your profile and all of your uploaded files.
• Do not apply for a job if you do not meet the minimum requirements listed. Employers report crew that abuse the job posting system and those crewmembers are no longer allowed to use the site.

Tel: +1 954 604 6298 or 34 (0)971 57 09 67

(worth following for notice of job postings)
Owned and operated by Jonathan Franklin, this is another Internet-only crew recruitment database for yachting jobs worldwide. Register online where you then post a résumé/CV and provide two references. From there, you’ll be able to view active positions on the site’s Job Board page. Candidates can then apply directly to employers. Once you’ve registered, you must maintain your active crew status by logging into your account every 14 days.

Judging by the Job Search listings I’ve seen, there are some pretty good opportunities available through this service. I would try it. You can also register for the RSS feed to keep tabs on the postings.

Five Star Crew is a professional megayacht crew-job listing site for both experienced crew as well as newbies internationally. Register at www.fivestarcrew.ca; the site has about the shortest registration process out there (no photos) and allows megayacht crew to post and manage position postings. The ads appear on the main page in the chosen category. The agency keeps an eye on who is registering and applying, and crew benefit from a two-click application process once registered.

Run by Karen Murray, Five Star Crew also communicates with crew through its Facebook page. It even has a second Facebook page dedicated to letting crew post biographies for all hiring parties to peruse. Both pages are very popular. The website also has an RSS feed you can subscribe to, and the agency is active on Twitter. The site does not accept non-yacht positions (so no land-based jobs), nor are cruise or commercial ship positions permitted.

The final thing I’ll say about the type of agencies just mentioned is that they do offer a more direct way of both searching for jobs and being sought out by employers. That can be useful, but the downside is that, without a crew agent intermediary, both employers and job seekers carry a lot more risk. Without proper screening on both sides, you never know what you’re going to get. This can make things more time consuming, especially on the side of employers, who are the ones typically benefiting from having the more professional agencies checking references, pre-interviewing, and getting to know the candidates. From the crew perspective though, without knowing who’s behind these jobs (especially for those new to the industry), you might be playing with fire a bit. Proceed with caution.

And also know that this type of job search option will likely be much more valuable to you once you’ve been in the industry awhile and know what to look out for (and also have enough experience to attract good employers).

Online Job Listing Sites

Beyond these Internet-based crew agencies above, there are a couple online job-search sites where you can register and apply for specific jobs that catch your eye. They work slightly different and are separated out for that reason. Click here to view a list of online yacht-crew job listing sites .

Yacht crew agencies & how to get the most from them

When looking for work onboard a yacht, a yacht crew recruitment agency is the place to start. Consultants can provide an invaluable service, finding the right role to suit your personality, skill set and ambition. Below is a list we’ve compiled explaining how you can be sure to get the most out of yacht crew agencies and find that role thats perfect for you.

Start by making a personal introduction (if you’re able to)

A good first impression can go a long way. Be sure that you introduce yourself in a friendly and professional manner, but most importantly, make them remember you. You can do this by either a phone call or email. Having a good rapport with your recruitment contact will encourage them to want to help you. We would all rather help someone we get along with rather than total strangers, so work with the recruiter; not against them.

Why not try the Live Chat feature on our website every Wednesday to introduce yourself to a member of our team. It’s a great opportunity to talk to one of our consultants directly and have any questions answered instantly.

Make the most of their expertise

Do you need help with a CV? Are you worried that you struggle with interviews? Ask for advice! Yacht recruiters are there to help bring the best out of people and do what they can to appropriately prepare you for your applications and interviews. Utilise your communication with recruiters and don’t be afraid to ask and learn about the tricks of the industry.

Try to develop a good relationship with just a few key Consultants, rather than registering with 20 agencies

Having a good relationship with a recruiter can benefit you now and in the future should you wish to find work elsewhere. They can be there for you throughout your career, and also help on the other side when you might need to hire crew yourself. We like to take the time to find out about our candidates, and have watched many who started out in the industry become Captains, or Heads of Departments over time. You want to find a solid few consultants that you trust and get on with. Refrain from signing up to every agency, although your inbox may be full of opportunities, a consultant you can trust will aim to find you the right fit for your personality and ability.

Be clear about how you would like them to use your CV

At the end of the day, it’s your data. If you don’t want it going out without your consent, then be sure to tell them loud and clear. Without doing so will result in your information being put forward for jobs you would never have applied for.

Make sure that they are listening to the positions you are interested in

Following on from the previous point, be clear with your recruiter on which roles and variations of roles you are interested in, the more specific you are the better. This may however limit the number of opportunities you’re put forward for. A good yacht recruitment agency should not be sending your CV to jobs which don’t match your expectations – it wastes your time, as well as the yachts’.

Once a Consultant places you, stay in touch with them once on board

It’s important to stay in contact with your consultant because if things aren’t going well, or its not what you expected, we would much rather hear from you and try to advise how you should proceed before hearing from the Captain that it’s all gone wrong, and you have left the boat. Even in instances where you feel the position isn’t the right fit, we can continue to help you through the resignation process and try again for a better fit.

Above all, if you are not getting these things, don’t feel obliged to keep using them

Sometimes finding a good yacht recruitment consultant can be easier said than done. Finding the one who works for you, and has your best interests at heart can be a difficult acquisition. However, do not feel obliged to stay with one that you’re in contact with, if it’s not working out. It is your career and you should dictate whether you feel as though your experience with a consultant is working or not. Read more on  how to identify the best kind of recruiter .

Why should you use a superyacht crew agent to help you get a job on super yachts?

Why do you even need to register with superyacht crew agents?

and most importantly WHO do you register with to make sure your cv gets to the best captain’s hands faster?

Yacht crew agents are GOLD for Chefs!

Unlike green deckhands and stews, who usually need to dockwa lk to land their first job on a super yacht . Chefs often pick up their first boat job through a crew agent.

This is because many chefs enter the industry already qualified for the job and with many years of experience. A good crew agent will be able to pair a green chef up with a boat easily and the journey from land chef to yacht chef should be reasonably seamless.

Before registering with any crew agents you will need to have the basic yacht certificates completed, a sample menu or 2, and a decent portfolio of your food photos.

Who should you register your CV with?

There are plenty of agents out there, and all of them are FREE for you to sign up with. These are some of the best crew agents out there targetting superyacht chefs. And yes, we have ranked them based on OUR experience getting jobs as chefs, and friends’ recommendations.

You can choose to just contact a few agents for work and focus on building a good relationship with them. But there is no harm in submitting your documents and CV to all of the agents.

Bear in mind, adding yourself to these agency databases will take time. Allow around an hour per agent, as some of them have rather long-winded application processes when you first set up.

If you are looking for a professional CV writer, head to www.superyachtcvs.com and chat with them

Bluewater yachting

Saltwater recruitment, hill robinson.

And then there’s a bunch of smaller crew agents who will get a mixed bag of jobs come through, who are also totally worth signing up with! You might find they tend to have smaller boat roles or more private boats on their books.

But never ever discount an agent based on their size or name. Many of the smaller companies have gotten gigs for well-known yacht chefs on big boats too! And often they get the explorer vessels and lesser-known world travelling boats. Some of them specialise more in sail yachts too, so if that’s your thing, the below agents can be great to contact.

Cotton crews

The crew hunter, mys superyacht crew, infinity yachting.

This list is by no means exhaustive! There are literally hundreds of yacht crew agencies around the world now. If you think we have missed a great superyacht crew agent, let us know, and we can list them here.

Many of these crew agencies have been set up by ex yacht crew. mymuybueno is a great example of this, Justine was a yacht chef for many years before setting up her land-based business in Palma de Mallorca. mymuybueno private chefs now have over 11,000 private chefs on their database. We can only assume this makes them the biggest crew agent in the world for super yachting! *register* hint hint

The best thing about crew agents who have worked on boats is that they know the ins and outs of yachting too. They are able to give advice on yachts and be frank about working conditions. Some of them have a culinary background too, so they will understand when you ask if there is a paco jet or sous vide on board. Or if the food budget is tight.

We definitely recommend signing up with at least a handful of agencies when you first start out.

What agents have you registered with, and who have you found good success rates with? Let us know if you think we need to add other agencies to this list for super yacht chefs.

yacht crew agencies list

In countries where the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 has been ratified , crewing agencies (sometimes named manning agencies) offering recruitment services MUST NOT charge you for finding you work.

The only costs that can be charged to you are those:

  • for obtaining your national statutory medical certificate
  • your national seafarers’ book
  • your passport or similar personal travel documents

The cost of visas MUST be paid for by the shipowner.

Additionally, all private crewing agencies must be regulated and provide an efficient, adequate, and accountable system that protects and promotes your employment rights. The creation of blacklists that could prevent qualified seafarers from finding work is forbidden .

Even if your agency is in a country that has not ratified the MLC, shipowners with ships registered in the flags of countries that have ratified must still use agencies that comply with these minimum requirements.

Depending on which country you come from, your union may offer recruitment services under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement. The Flag State must make sure that if seafarers are recruited from a crewing/manning agency in a country that has not ratified the Convention, the shipowner recruiting them must ensure that the agency meets with the MLC’s standards.

Where a crewing/manning agency is publicly operated, it must also be run in an orderly way that promotes your employment rights.

There must be a process in place to enable you to make a complaint if a crewing/manning agency is not run properly and is in breach of the requirements of this convention. Depending on the situation you may need to complain to the authorities of your own country (for example for Filipino seafarers this could be the POEA – Philippines Overseas Employment Agency), those of the Flag State or those of a Port State. You can also contact your union or the ITF for advice.

How to tell if a private crewing/manning agent or recruitment company is reliable?

  • Keep an up-to-date register of all their seafarer placements
  • Keep up-to-date lists of ships and company contact details where their seafarers are placed
  • Inform you of your rights and duties under an employment agreement and give you enough time to examine it before you sign up
  • Give you a copy of the employment agreement
  • Make sure their agreements comply with applicable national laws and CBAs
  • Check your qualifications for the job
  • Make sure that the shipowners or companies they work with are financially secure so that you do not get stranded in a foreign port
  • Have an effective complaints procedure in place
  • Have an insurance system in place in case they need to compensate you for any failure to meet their obligations under the recruitment and placement service, or if the shipowner fails to meet their obligations under the SEA

As a matter of good practice they should also:

  • Employ staff with relevant knowledge of the maritime industry
  • Respect your right to privacy and the need to protect confidentiality
  • Ensure that they can respond promptly and sympathetically to requests for information and advice from your family while you’re at sea – at no cost to you or your family
  • Keep up-to-date lists of contact details in case of emergencies
  • Inform you of any relevant shipping company policies, eg. dry ship policies where no alcohol may be consumed onboard
  • Check that the labour conditions on ships where they supply crew comply with all applicable CBAs, laws and regulations

If you have any questions or concerns regarding a job or job offer, you can contact us via email at [email protected]

Who was on superyacht that sank off Sicily?

Twenty-two people were on board the Bayesian superyacht including British technology tycoon Mike Lynch, his wife and 18-year-old daughter, and Morgan Stanley International boss Jonathan Bloomer.

Details have emerged of the 22 people who were on board the superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily.

The British-flagged vessel named Bayesian was carrying 12 passengers and 10 members of crew when it got into difficulty in the early hours of Monday.

Seven bodies have now been recovered. The other 15 people on board were rescued.

Here's what we know about those who were on the yacht.

British technology tycoon Mike Lynch was among the original six people missing. On Thursday, divers confirmed his body had been recovered.

Raised in Ilford, east London by Irish parents, the 59-year-old made millions with the software company Autonomy he set up in 1996.

He had an estimated net worth of £852m, according to the 2023 Sunday Times Rich List, and is believed to have owned the yacht.

Off the back of Automomy's global success, Mr Lynch was given the roles of science adviser to former prime minister David Cameron and non-executive director of the BBC.

The Cambridge maths and sciences graduate sold the firm for £8.64bn to US giant Hewlett Packard (HP) in 2011.

Dubbed the "British Bill Gates", Mr Lynch has been in the headlines in recent months over a high-profile fraud case related to the sale of Autonomy to HP in 2011.

HP accused him of deliberately overstating the value of the company before it was acquired by the American technology firm. Mr Lynch denied any wrongdoing.

In June, a US jury cleared him of all charges .

Hannah Lynch

Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah Lynch was also on board. A body believed to be that of the teenager was recovered on Friday from the yacht wreckage.

She had been on holiday with her parents, having secured a place to study English at the University of Oxford, according to reports.

Her former school, Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, west London, said they were "incredibly shocked by the news that Hannah and her father are among those missing in this tragic accident" when the yacht first sank.

Angela Bacares

Mr Lynch's wife Angela Bacares was on board the yacht and was rescued.

The 57-year-old said she and Mr Lynch were awoken by the boat "tilting" at 4am - half an hour before it sank.

Jonathan Bloomer

Jonathan Bloomer is the chairman of Morgan Stanley Pic: Hiscox/ Linkedin

Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley International, was confirmed dead on Thursday.

According to the Financial Times, Mr Bloomer appeared as a defence witness for Mr Lynch during his US criminal trial and the pair were good friends. He also chaired Autonomy's audit committee.

The 70-year-old was the chief executive of UK-Hong Kong insurer Prudential until he was ousted by the board in 2005.

He was also chairman of the insurance provider Hiscox.

Judy Bloomer

Mr Bloomer's wife Judy was on the yacht trip with her husband. Divers confirmed they found her body on Thursday.

Mrs Bloomer was a former board member at The Eve Appeal charity, which focuses on gynaecological cancers.

The charity described her as a "brilliant champion for women's health and medical research... an incredible supporter, committee member, and trustee of our charity for over 20 years".

Recaldo Thomas

The yacht's on-board chef Recaldo Thomas died in the sinking.

He was Canadian-Antiguan and part of the crew of the Bayesian.

His body was the first to be recovered from the wreckage.

Chris Morvillo

US lawyer Chris Morvillo was among those divers found dead on Thursday.

The father-of-two worked on Mr Lynch's US fraud trial and was a partner of law firm Clifford Chance's US branch.

Mr Morvillo was assistant attorney for the Southern District of New York between 1995 and 2005 and worked on the terrorist investigation into the 9/11 attacks.

In a recent LinkedIn post, he thanked the legal team that helped win Mr Lynch's trial.

Signing off the post, he said: "And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo.

"None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after…."

Neda Morvillo

Mr Morvillo's wife Neda died in the disaster alongside her husband.

The 57-year-old had a luxury jewellery brand, which she ran under her maiden name Neda Nassiri.

Ayla Ronald

Ayla Ronald, a senior associate at Clifford Chance, survived the yacht disaster, the law firm confirmed.

The 36-year-old worked alongside Chris Morvillo in helping defend Mike Lynch in court.

Clifford Chance said in a statement: "Our utmost priority is providing support to the family as well as our colleague Ayla Ronald, who together with her partner, thankfully survived the incident."

She is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, but lives in London, her father told local media there.

He said she was left "very shaken" but "she and her partner are alive".

Charlotte Golunski

Charlotte Golunski

Charlotte Golunski was on board the yacht and was rescued along with her one-year-old daughter, Sofia.

She spoke to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, confirming she survived the yacht sinking and told how she kept her daughter alive after she was rescued.

"I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning," she said.

"It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open. I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others."

The 35-year-old is a partner at one of Mr Lynch's firms - Invoke Capital - and has worked there since 2012, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She also worked at Hewlett Packard, which acquired Autonomy in 2011, for 11 months.

Before that, she studied history at the University of Oxford.

Ms Golunski's partner James Emsley was also rescued from the yacht, according to Sicily's civil protection agency.

The 36-year-old is the father of her one-year-old daughter.

James Cutfield

The 51-year-old captain of the yacht spoke to Italian newspaper La Repubblica after he was rescued.

Mr Cutfield, from New Zealand, was taken for treatment at the Termini Imerese emergency unit, where he told the newspaper: "We didn't see it coming."

Leah Randall

Leah Randall was part of the Bayesian crew and survived the sinking.

She was pictured going ashore in Porticello on Monday morning and is from South Africa.

Her mother Heidi told Sky News said she was "beyond relieved that my daughter's life was spared by the grace of God".

"It doesn't make it any easier living with the heartache of those who have lost their lives [or are] missing. My very deepest condolences to the chef's family as they formed a great friendship," she said.
