Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: evolution makes it better than ever

Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Design keeps evolving to be even more versatile and comfortable.
While at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, our first look at the newly refreshed Ocean Alexander 32 Legend revealed many changes that make it better than ever. This superyacht began its evolutionary journey in 2014 as the 100′, and after building 19 of them, Ocean Alexander switched its model names to a metric nomenclature in 2020 and has since grown to 106 feet, 6 inches with a 23-foot beam. In 2021, it lost its flagship status when the 37L was introduced and is probably the 32L’s biggest competitor. The yacht we boarded in Lauderdale was hull number nine, and this most recent update borrows a few readily noticeable features from the 37L, like its vertical owner’s suite windows. But rather than being just a smaller version, the 32L retains its own identity.
Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Plenty of Room Out Back
The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend creates some first-impression wow factor with its hydraulic, teak swim platform that dwarfs many found on yachts in its class. Large enough to accommodate a tender on chocks, it also functions as a submersible lounge area where guests are one with the water, making it easy to take a quick dip, stage a snorkeling run, or watch the sunset with your feet in the water. Heading up one of the two matching stern staircases to the main deck takes you to the raised aft seating area, which features twin tables for ease of movement and makes a great al fresco dining area. Moving into the salon via the electric push-button glass door reveals a light and airy space thanks to the deck-to-ceiling glass and Novus Mist color palette that features light gray oak cabinetry and natural oak sole. The commitment to having only the best is evidenced by the contemporary furniture in the salon’s L-shaped seating group, designed by Ocean Alexander but built by Italian craftsmen at Poltrona Frau, which also has showrooms in Hollywood, Milan, Paris, and London. For those who prefer darker oak cabinetry, OA offers Novus Dusk.
Open Galley is Functional and Social
Often, galleys are isolated from those dining, but one of the recent changes is the addition of a pair of artfully hidden sliding doors that can be opened up to allow social interaction with the chef or to present food to diners. Inside the galley, you’ll find top-name appliances like the Wolf range and cooktop, Viking microwave, and full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, along with plenty of food prep area, giving the chef an environment conducive to overachievement. There’s even a portside watertight entryway so the crew can provision the galley without interrupting guests. There’s room for ten diners, and the view is excellent thanks to the cutouts in the combing. Twin sliding glass doors on either side can open and be locked in place to take advantage of temperate cross breezes.
The Owner’s Cabin Choice
On the Ocean Alexander 32 Legend, the owner’s cabin is positioned toward the bow on the main deck, and this year, vertical forward windows replace the slanted ones on previous versions and offers a stunning 270-degree view. Our evaluation model featured the split-level master, which I prefer, even though accessing the head compartment requires heading down a flight of stairs. But there’s also a night head on the main level that doesn’t require navigating steps during nocturnal excursions. There is a one-level master option, but the head compartment is smaller, and instead of a large walk-in closet, it has four smaller ones. But, the one-level design does give owners the option of a bow seating group or the same sun pad as the split-level option and gives owners more bureau storage and a pop-up TV. Stepping down into the split-level master head compartment reveals a roomy space with heated floors for comfort. The shower has rainfall fixtures, and the head is segregated for privacy. A giant walk-in closet has lighted jewelry drawers and plenty of room for dressing for the evening.
Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Lower Deck Accommodations
Moving to the lower deck, matching VIP berths are positioned amidships with walkaround queen beds and ensuite head compartments. The fourth guest cabin features a clever and versatile berth arrangement that allows guests to push the twin beds together with a nightstand on the end or separate them, with a table in the middle. The fifth cabin on hull nine was ideally configured as a kid’s quarters and featured a flip-down upper bunk bed and plenty of play space. Or owners could use the open floor for exercise equipment or add a desk to turn it into a workspace.
The Bridge Deck is a Great Place to Lounge
Owners can now choose a crane option on the bridge deck that also moves the hot tub farther forward to create more open lounging space. Without the crane, the hot tub can be positioned aft and surrounded by a padded lounge. A wet bar with stools on the starboard side is just abaft of the hot tub on the starboard side, and to port is a U-shaped lounge with a high-low convertible table. Inside the enclosed bridge is a lounge area to port, across from the flip-down 32-inch TV. The captain’s command center features three Garmin 32-inch screens to monitor all ship systems. At the marina, they can move to an outside docking station to see dock clearances without relying on others or a camera.
Even the Crew Gets the First-Class Treatment
Because many Ocean Alexander owners consider the crew part of the family, crew quarters have the same level of fit and finish as above deck. The captain’s quarters feature an ensuite head compartment and shower. Twin berths in the two remaining cabins allow for four more crew members to be comfortably situated. In the crew lounge is a 43-inch TV that’s integrated with the ship’s Optiplex system, allowing all onboard systems to be monitored at a glance. The crew or owners can also keep apprised of the yacht’s systems via smartphone. In addition to a washer/dryer, there’s a small workshop for the engineer and a dining area with an abbreviated galley.
Ocean Alexander 32 Legend: Performance is First-Rate
Walking into the air-conditioned engine room, it’s apparent designers prioritized easy access to all the mechanical systems, with walkaround space surrounding the twin Mann 1900 V-12 diesels, which push the 32L to a top speed of 23 knots, according to Ocean Alexander sources. Twin Kohler 40kW generators and a pair of water makers add redundancy and extra capacity. The Side-Power Vector Fin system handles stabilization.
The Ocean Alexander 32 Legend gives owners the perfect yacht, whether used as a second home or for charters.

Ocean Alexander’s Ocean-Crossing 32 Legend
- By Chris Caswell
- Updated: August 12, 2021
I noted the Ocean Alexander 32L’s gentle, sweeping curve from bow to stern. The look reminded me of what I’d seen in the pages of Yachting during my youth, when designers such as Phil Rhodes, Sparkman & Stephens, Bill Garden, Alden, and others drew gently curving classic sheers. Ocean Alexander’s new 105-footer continues the tradition.
The L in 32L stands for “legend,” which is apropos because this yacht is a tribute to the builder’s more than 40 years of yachtbuilding experience. That experience comes through in the details. For example, opening the nearly 6-foot-wide sliding doors on each side of the salon creates a pleasant cross breeze at the dining table, which also offers sole-to-ceiling vistas. Cut-down bulwarks open the view from the salon as well. The feeling is open and airy in the salon, from the sliding doors to the aft deck to the forward bulkhead, with help from nearly 7-foot headroom.
The galley is just forward of the salon, with double-door Sub-Zeros, a full-height wine chiller and wraparound marble counters. There’s also a side-deck door for crew access, to eliminate passing through guest areas during service.
Far forward, past a day head, is the main-deck master stateroom, with sweeping panoramas on three sides. The mullions are small, leaving room for the big views.
Four guest staterooms are off the central foyer belowdecks, each with windows and opening ports for air and vistas. Each stateroom is en suite with stall showers and marble appointments.
The 32L I got aboard had an optional sky lounge, with the bridge deck divided between a fully enclosed forward entertaining area and an alfresco lounge aft. Besides having a twin-pedestal helm, the sky lounge creates a “second salon” with windows on all four sides. A wet bar, TV and day head share space with twin sofas and an easy chair that begs for a favorite read to be savored. Outside are a dining table and a bar with three fixed stools. Adding to the amenities are a grill and whirlpool spa.
The foredeck is also a getaway space for guests, with sun lounges and a table for enjoying sundowners. The aft deck has a raised dinette space that’s protected from the sun. With the twin tables, this is where I would enjoy most meals.
There is no “upstairs-downstairs” layout for the crew on the 32L. They have three cabins and a full mess with a galley. In addition to the usual door to the transom, the crew also has a safe entry from the cockpit while the yacht is underway.
Power on the 32L is a pair of 1,900 hp MAN V-12 diesels, and the engine room should be on every tour. With a pair of 40 kW Kohler gensets tucked in the corners, it is, quite simply, clean and organized. The engine room is gloss-finished for easy cleaning, all the systems are readily accessible, pipes and wiring are labeled, and service techs will have the necessary space.
The builder says that MANs typically push the 32L to a top speed of 23 knots, but running on an unruly and lumpy Gulf Stream, our speeds were closer to the cruise speed of 20 knots at 80 percent of rated revolutions per minute, which should mean these diesels have a long life span. Drop the speed back to 10 knots, and the 32L has transoceanic range of 3,496 nautical miles.
The weather was challenging when I was aboard, but the 32L was seakindly, shouldering away seas with a comfortable motion in all directions. By all directions, I mean not just into swells or down-sea (which most yachts can handle) but also beam-to. The yacht’s standard Side-Power Vector Fin stabilizers helped, but a large part of the comfort, I suspect, was due to the builder keeping the weight low with high-density closed-cell structural foam, which also reduces sound levels. Fiberglass-infusion lamination with carbon fiber is used in high-stress areas. The Side-Power setup also provides zero-speed stabilization at anchor. Ocean Alexander finishes all the exterior surfaces with Alexseal paint for longer gloss retention and easier maintenance.
While it was the 32L’s lovely sheerline that captured me at first, the solid build and outfitting helped me fully understand why the boat is part of the Legend line.

OCEAN ALEXANDER DELIVERS NEW 32 METER LEGEND
- April 5, 2021
April 5, 2021 – Alexander Marine International, the importer of Ocean Alexander yachts, is pleased to announce the sale and delivery of the recently debuted 32 Meter Legend Motoryacht (32L).
The OA 32L debuted at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show as the much-awaited update to the popular OA 100’ motoryacht. The Ocean Alexander 100 motoryacht first debuted in 2014 and almost twenty of them were delivered in just six years. The new 32L retains the traditional lines and bow shape loved by many of our owners. With the on-deck master and four staterooms below, this five-stateroom yacht provides many of the amenities found on yachts 120’ and larger.
James Corts, a Yacht & Brokerage Sales Executive with MarineMax Yachts in Naples, FL, worked with Scott Hauck of Worth Avenue Yachts to finalize this sale. “The buyer previously owned a 65’ Marquis and were originally looking at a brokerage Ocean Alexander 85’ motoryacht,” shared Corts. “They then toured a pre-owned OA 100 and decided they preferred the updated styling offered in the 32L.”
Corts added, “it was an amazing feat to bring a client from a used 85’ OA into a final purchase of the brand new, debut 32L. In the midst of a pandemic, where the owners could not travel, we did everything digitally and remotely. The owner and captain spent hours with the commissioning team at East Coast Yacht Group via Facetime, they entrusted specialty-survey professionals for the thorough inspections and sea trials, and closed on this purchase without stepping aboard the yacht even once. The yacht has been loaded on transport and is now on its way north to its new home.”
About Ocean Alexander – Two generations of one family have guided Ocean Alexander for almost four decades. With manufacturing in Taiwan and United States, Ocean Alexander is consistently one of the top selling brands for large yachts in the U.S. and currently produces models ranging from 84 to 120 feet in length.
