Sialia 57 Deep Silence, awe-inspiring silence

We tested the Sialia 57 Deep Silence, a modern yacht that offers a thrilling experience in full electric mode

T he Sialia 57 Deep Silence – the result of the amazing vision of Sialia Yachts founder and CEO Stanislav Szadkowski – demonstrates the enormous potential of electric yachts in today’s boating market. We took her out for a spin, but not before getting to grips with her array of technology. At 8 knots, the 57 Deep Silence has a range of 40 miles in full electric mode or 571 miles in Range Extender mode. At 25 knots, these are 12 and 24 miles respectively. The version we tested off the coast of Cannes was fitted with a 350 kW h battery, in addition to the 390 kW h provided by the Range Extender, but there are already 700 and 1,000 kW h versions in the pipeline, which are fully electric and therefore without the Range Extender system, using a generator to recharge on the move, giving a range of 33 miles at 25 knots. The 22 kW onboard battery charger is equipped with connection systems that allow it to use any source of electricity on land.

The deck has been carefully laid out, and the bulwarks at the stern fold down to create a large private beach in a few seconds. Technologically advanced, modern in its design and extraordinarily quiet.

But let’s get back to the range extender. Some may object that it uses an endothermic power source to charge the batteries . This is true, but the advantage of this system is that the batteries can be recharged while the engines are running, i.e. while the boat is moving. Furthermore, with a range of 40 miles at 8 knots or 12 miles at 25 knots, the batteries alone can easily cover the average daily use of any boat . The range extender should be seen as a safety feature, to be used if you accidentally or deliberately exceed the boat’s power capacity, or to allow you to continue cruising without having to stop at the marina to recharge the batteries.

The version with two double cabins is designed to leave the entire area between midships and the bow as a large open space, an undeniably attractive solution for those who like to spend several days at sea with friends.

To achieve the performance levels required by the design, the yard had to build an incredibly hydrodynamically efficient hull that was light yet capable of providing all the features expected of an 18-metre yacht . Quite a challenge, but by using carbon fibre and vacuum processes for all composite parts, and a structural study that led to a combination of strength and lightness, Sialia has achieved a result that undoubtedly raises the bar for electric boat production. The naval architecture and engineering were entrusted to the Dutch company Vripack.

THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE DECK AND THE INTERIOR AVAILABLE; ALL OPTIONS ARE MODERN, LINEAR AND MADE WITH CAREFULLY CLAD OR PAINTED MATERIALS.

We leave the port, guided by a Xenta joystick, in the utmost silence, exiting our mooring as if we were in a small open boat and not an 18-metre yacht . Because it is a relatively still day, the sea is calm, so the conditions should not greatly affect the test data. When we increase the power – “put our foot on the gas” would not be right here – we get the effect of regular thrust, and the speed showing on the GPS rises rapidly, but the only noise you can hear is that of the wake, surely the nicest noise you can hear at sea. We can talk at a normal level at the helmsman’s station, with no vibrations or noise to compete with. Everything runs smoothly and we immediately appreciate the hydrodynamic qualities of the hull: it does not throw up water, but instead rapidly starts to the plane, moving adeptly and gently even when it hits the wake of another boat.

Although the hull is made entirely of carbon fibre, we are surprised just how quiet it is. Even at its maximum speed of 27 kn, it handles like a small open boat, with a stable trim angle at all speeds, and travelling with nothing but the sound of water at the stern is a uniquely pleasant experience . Adding the Range Extender while sailing, at 15 knots and with the generator consuming fuel at 36 litres/hour, the range depends purely on the amount of fuel on board, which in these conditions equates to roughly 571 miles. It is worth noting that the thrust is always controlled by the joysticks on the dashboard used to handle the electric engines; the Range Extender system is fully automated and only requires the pilot to choose from various preset modes. The generator is very well insulated, and you do not notice any noise or vibrations from the revs; only when you opt for top speed, which demands the electric engines run at full power, does the generator increase its revs in response, and at this point, you can just make out the noise of the turbine.

Sialia 57: A fast, high-end hybrid electric boat

At the Palma Boat Show 2023, Spanish shipyard Sialia presented its first model, the Sialiia 57, a top-of-the-range vessel equipped with its proprietary AMPROS hybrid electric drive system. A top-of-the-range unit with high autonomy.

1st unit of Sialia Yachts

The Sialia Yachts brand was created to combine luxury and electric motors. To prove its concept, it presented its first boat, the Sialia 57, at the Palma Boat Show 2023. Christened Deep Silence, this 17.6-meter carbon unit, designed with the renowned naval architecture firm Vripack in association with Denis Popov design, is the image of a new era in yachting , with hybrid electric drive and modern design.

A strong electric motor

The Sialia 57 boasts a twin electric motor with a total output of 800 kW, for a top speed of over 25 knots, thanks to a carbon hull that is lighter than conventional construction. Cruising speed is 18 knots.

The Sialia 59, which has already been announced as the serial production version of the 57, is expected to reach 30 knots. Battery options ranging from 350 kWh to 1,000 kWh, as well as a 1,500 L tank for the on-board generator, will provide significant autonomy.

Luxurious furnishings

Once at anchor , the crew can take advantage of the on-board electrical power to enjoy the anchorage in silence. A large sunbathing area and tilting bulwarks allow you to relax. A large U-shaped bench aft faces the step . Under the hard top, there's a wet bar to port and a bench seat to starboard, and further forward a table and a C-shaped bench seat, aft of the well-protected helm station.

Passageways, well protected by the wall, give access to a C-shaped forward cockpit, which can also be used as a double chaise longue.

The Sialia 59 will be offered in 3 deck layout versions: the weekender with a well-protected superstructure, the 59 S for sport, whose hardtop will remain open on the sides, for more outdoor living, and finally the 59 R for Runabout , with an elegant, long, low windshield and a simple front sundeck .

Here, too, the Sialia 57's layout demonstrates the high standards and luxury demanded by the shipyard , which promises a variety of interior layouts for the Sialia 59, depending on whether it is used as an owner's or crew cabin, and whether or not it has an underdeck galley.

Nobody cares about the carbon footprint, the only reason anyone would be interested it’s because you’re saving at Tongass the two things we care about is how fast does it charge and what is the range? I you left the most important information out. This was obviously intentional due to the fact this book pub has horrible range and an unreasonable amount of time to charge.

This Sialia 57 “ Deep Silence ” is a 100% electric , luxurious and eco-friendly weekender that showcases the company’s dedication to innovative technology. Launched in 2022, the 17.6m craft is constructed entirely of carbon fiber , making it ultralight. With a clear vision of a yacht that would be fast, good looking , and functional, the Sialia 57 boasts a serene cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 25+ knots . The company teamed up with Denis Popov Design studio and Vripack Design , to create the most efficient hull possible. The result is a smooth and stable ride, with minimal trim angles and a flared bow that keeps the vessel dry even in rough seas. The electronic components to the boat were provided by Garmin.
