Gary King defends Below Deck Sailing Yacht return amid backlash after sexual misconduct claims

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 has been plagued with controversy ever since Gary King was accused of sexual misconduct with a production team member.

The claims came out last summer after Gary had already filmed Season 5 of the hit sailing show.

It’s been months of fans waiting for Season 5 news, which happened this week thanks to a trailer that included a premiere date.

As Monsters and Critics previously reported, Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans had mixed reviews on Gary’s return amid the scandal.

Gary, though, has set the record straight and defended his fourth stint in the Below Deck franchise.

After news broke that Gary, along with Daisy Kelliher and Captain Glenn Shephard , were back for another season, they all began posting on social media.

Gary shared his new official cast photo and a caption to promote his return.

“Well I guess the news is out. It’s what you’ve all been waiting for 🤗 I’m back! Who’s excited for this season? Season five of #belowdecksailing Yacht premieres on Monday, Oct. 7 on @bravotv,” he wrote as the caption.

It didn’t take long for the comments section to become flooded with responses, most of which were people psyched to have Gary back.

One comment brought up the allegations, writing, “Umm, so what about the claims of sexual assault by the production crew member…?”

Soon, Gary, who often replies to responses on his IG posts, whether they are good or bad, had something to say on the topic of the allegations against him.

“mate, there’s people that claim the earth is flat, this girl wanted 15minutes of fame and made a complete lie. End of story,” Gary replied.

Under the exchange, another critic came out to say they hoped Gary wasn’t lying about the scandal or what happened.

Gary got right to the point with his response, saying, “I don’t lie.”

This isn’t the first time Gary has shared that the allegations against him were false. Gary recently shared an update on the situation , claiming his accuser was a liar, and it was proven.

There’s been no official word from Bravo or 51 Minds, the production company behind Below Deck Sailing Yacht, regarding the investigation into the allegations against Gary.

Along with defending his return, Gary briefly dropped hints about the upcoming season.

One fan who was happy to have Gary back suggested that the first officer keep his pants on this season. Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans know Gary has a tendency to hook up with anyone who looks slightly in his direction.

Gary declared he was, but we will have to see if that really is the case. Let’s be honest, it’s hard to believe Gary will be a good boy.

Another user admitted they were bummed that Colin MacRae isn’t back breaking up the trio of Gary, Colin, and Daisy that helped make the sailing show a mega-hit.

“would have loved the trio back but I can assure this season will still be entertaining,” Gary wrote.

The wait is almost over for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5. Gary King has defended his return and it definitely won’t be the last time that happens.

Based on the trailer there’s going to be plenty for fans to talk about when Below Deck Sailing Yacht is back with Gary being just a small part of the drama coming.

'Below Deck: Sailing Yacht' Season 5 Finally Gets Premiere Date Following Sexual Misconduct Claims

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is set to premiere its fifth season on Monday, October 7, Bravo has announced. This comes one year after Rolling Stone published a report of sexual misconduct claims against cast member Gary King.

First mate King, who was accused of assault by makeup artist Samantha Suarez during filming, was reportedly not permitted to attend BravoCon with his co-stars, leading some fans to wonder whether the entire season might be scrapped. The Bravo press release, however, indicated that he would have a major storyline in season 5, which takes place in Ibiza. "Capt. Glenn Shephard returns to Parsifal III with returning department heads Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher and First Mate Gary King," the statement reads. "On deck, Gary attempts to keep his team motivated as one crew member struggles to learn the ropes."

Suarez detailed her alleged traumatic experience with King in an email to Rolling Stone , which claimed she was bringing snacks and water to King's room, at which point he "comes up behind me, puts his arms around me, holds me against his body, physically restraining me from leaving, and says stuff like no don't go. I get out of his grip, tell him again that I have to leave, that I am not staying, and I go reach for the door knob and he comes over and puts both his hands on the door, with his whole weight, to push it shut." She continued, "This whole time he's laughing. I ask him to please let me out of the room, that I have to go. I then get a phone call from [the show's talent manager]. He sees and hears that I answer and he finally moves away from the door, allowing me to open it."

Rolling Stone published a statement at the time from Below Deck production company 51 Minds that read, "51 Minds is committed to providing an environment in which every member of the casts and crews on our productions feel respected and, most importantly, safe. 51 Minds provides mandatory harassment and sensitivity training for every series it produces at the outset of each new season and lays out a clear process on how and to whom to report any questionable activity. [...] With regard to the incident reported by Ms. Suarez involving Mr. King, the case was investigated and reviewed as soon as it was submitted, and production acted accordingly based on the results."

King spoke out about the allegations in the comments section of Instagram in September of 2023, responding to a fan who asked if there was an investigation into the allegations. King vehemently denied the allegations, saying of Suarez: "her and her boyfriend(now ex I hear) weren't invited back to any BD due to the problems they cause[d], so she wanted revenge and to try make some money out of it."

Bravo posted a trailer for season five on X (formerly known as Twitter ) on Monday, September 15. Some fans were excited, writing "All this chaos in less than 3 minutes" and "It's always a pleasure to set sail with Captain Glenn, even if his crew is mentally unstable!" Others however, had reservations about King's return to the show. "why in the hell is Gary back???" asked an X user. "Disgusting perv Gary is back," said another. One user defended the network's inclusion of King in season five, writing, "This happened before the allegations. Can you all just calm the [expletive] down?"

Bravo fans have been waiting a very long time for news about Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, and the network has finally delivered.

Not only did Bravo just drop a brand-new trailer for the fifth season of the hotly-anticipated reality TV show, the network also confirmed precisely when Below Deck Sailing Yacht will return.

Until today, fans of Below Deck Sailing Yacht weren't quite sure the spin-off of Below Deck would return for a fifth season, as the last episode of Season 4 aired way back in July 2023.

In late June, one viewer asked Reddit users if Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 was ever going to happen, and even as recently as this summer, fans weren't sure the show was returning.

In that thread, BDSY fans speculated that Season 5 was delayed due to allegations involving First Officer Gary King.

As we previously reported, Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht featured a wild "love triangle" between Gary, Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher , and Chief Engineer Colin MacRae:

"Many things influenced the relationship between Daisy and Colin, but one name was the most prominent: Gary King. "Daisy, Colin, and Gary's entanglement reached a boiling point that got the three in public arguments and name-calling, and at the end, estranged."

A month after Season 4 concluded with a two-part reunion in July 2023, Rolling Stone published an in-depth article , "'Below Deck' Accused of Covering Up Gary King’s Sexual Misconduct," rocking the show's audience.

It reported in part:

"Bravo’s Below Deck was recently lauded for its handling of sexual misconduct when a producer on Below Deck Down Under broke the 'fourth wall' and intervened when one cast member, Luke Jones, tried to get into bed naked with another cast member, Margot Sisson, without her consent while she was inebriated and passed out. Not only was Luke fired from the show, but their fellow cast member and stewardess, Laura Bileskalne, was also let go because of victim-blaming comments she made to Margot about the incident and her own line-crossing pursuit of deckhand Adam Kodra. [...] "Samantha Suarez, who first joined Below Deck in the makeup department on Season 10 of the show, tells Rolling Stone that cast member Gary King tried to force himself on her during production of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season Four, which filmed in Sardinia, Italy, in the summer of 2022."

Fans speculated that Season 5 was delayed due to extensive retooling, but Bravo eventually confirmed the return of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, with a trailer that centers Daisy.

On September 16, Bravo finally released the Below Deck Sailing Yacht trailer.

Bravo shared the clip on Instagram and Twitter/X, to the surprise of fans:

Posts teased the crew's visit to the notoriously riotous destination of Ibiza, and the trailer kicked off with some remarks from Daisy.

Daisy is the first crew member to speak in the trailer, and she addresses the unwieldy love triangle of Season 4:

"Going into this season, I got rid of some dead weight. The breakup did a number on me last year. I felt very broken. "But now, I'm coming back in more focused, full of energy, and I'm f*****g good at my job. And I'm taking back the reins."

Immediately thereafter, the clip cuts to a cabin, where Daisy tells an in-bed Gary that she refuses to "carry this season," before cutting back to newer footage of Daisy laughing and predicting:

This is gonna be a s*** show.

Then the video shifts to Ibiza, where a voiceover describes it as the world's "party capital," and scenes are interspersed with a lot of breaking glass.

Gary (who has not been let go from the franchise) makes an appearance, and the soundbite chosen for the trailer is bizarre given the allegations levied at him last year:

If the guests don't have a good time, we're clearly doing something very wrong.

As the trailer winds down, one of the crew members (likely Deckhand Keith Allen) muses that "Daisy would make a very good wife."

The trailer wraps with an apparent firing, as well as what appears to be a scene during which the crew veers uncomfortable close to another vessel at sea, at night.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 debuts on Bravo on October 7 at 9PM Eastern, and streams on Peacock the following day.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Season Five Cast and Premiere Date Announced by Bravo

Below Deck Sailing Yacht has its return date set. Season five of the reality series will return next month, and Bravo has announced new crew members who will join Capt. Glenn Shephard, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher, and First Mate Gary King on board the Parsifal III this season.

Chef Cloyce Martin, Chief Engineer Davide Morosi, stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren, and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch will join the cast for season five of the series, and they will bring some drama with them.

Bravo revealed the following about what is to come in season five:

Capt. Glenn and his expert crew set sail on Parsifal III to the luxury party capital of the world, Ibiza. While Ibiza is known for its sunny day parties and crystal-clear coast, it’s stormy waters ahead for the crew as they navigate blossoming boatmances, competitive co-workers and tense personal dynamics, all while trying to raise the bar every charter. After a distracting love triangle last season that took her focus away from work, Daisy is ready to take the reins back in the interior department with a new sense of energy and determination. However, plans for a stress-free charter season are threatened when her stews question her leadership. On deck, Gary attempts to keep his team motivated as one crew member struggles to learn the ropes. In the galley, Chef Cloyce charms the crew and guests but at only 22, he may be too inexperienced to meet the demands of the high-maintenance charter guests.

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Is Returning for Season 5 After Gary King’s Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is coming back for season 5 after Gary King’s sexual misconduct scandal.

Bravo announced on Monday, September 16, that the next season reunites Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher and Gary as they spend their charter season in Ibiza. The rest of the cast includes chef Cloyce Martin , chef engineer Davide Morosi , stews Diana Cruz , Danni Warren and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch .

The upcoming installment comes more than one year after Below Deck Sailing Yacht wrapped up its fourth season on Bravo in July 2023.

Gary’s future as a cast member has been up in the air, however, since a production assistant from the show accused him of making unwanted advances while filming season 4.

In a Rolling Stone exposé, which was published in October 2023, Samantha Suarez and other former employees, who asked to remain anonymous, accused Bravo of allegedly helping cover up Gary’s inappropriate behavior.

“It was insane. There were multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers after this person had been given verbal warnings multiple times,” one of the accusers alleged. “I had to promote and make this guy who just assaulted someone look awesome. That was my job, to make this person look cool, capable and exciting.”

Samantha recalled being asked to look after Gary when he allegedly got drunk. Once filming wrapped, Samantha remained with Gary in his hotel room before he tried to stop her from leaving by pressing himself against her. Samantha alleged that Gary refused to let her leave until she started to fight back.

According to Samantha, she alerted producers about the incident , who told Gary to sleep on the boat on days when the crew wasn’t filming as a way to keep him out of the hotel.

Bravo addressed the allegations in a statement to Rolling Stone , saying, “Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows. We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”

Gary has maintained his innocence since news broke about the claim. “I know [that I did nothing wrong], and I know the truth but it still hurts when people will tell lies to bring you down,” he replied to a fan via Instagram one month later.

In the aftermath, Gary didn’t appear at BravoCon in November 2023 despite initially being announced as a guest. He has since stated that he wasn’t ruling out a Below Deck Sailing Yacht return.

Gary replied to several Instagram users in December 2023 who reminded him there’s a “life after” Below Deck .

“I hope so, will have to see but will definitely be trying to stay on peoples tv screens ☺️,” Gary wrote back. In a separate comment, Gary maintained that he would return to reality TV, adding, “I will do and hopefully be back on your screens, everyday I’m trying to better myself so hopefully if they ask me back you’ll see this.”

Meet the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Crew Taking on Ibiza (PHOTOS)

Captain Glenn Shephard  and his crew are headed to Ibiza for Season 5 of  Below Deck Sailing Yacht  this October.

The experienced leader will be joined aboard  Parsifal III by returning department heads Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher and First Mate  Gary King , as well as new crew members Chef Cloyce Martin , Chief Engineer Davide Morosi , stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren , and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch .

Together, the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 crew will "navigate" everything from "competitive co-workers" to "tense personal dynamics, all while trying to raise the bar every charter," according to a press release.

Taking to her Instagram page , the 37-year-old reality star, who is single, revealed she’d undergone a second round of freezing her eggs. Alongside the post, she shared a photo of herself in a blue surgical cap taken before the procedure and a video of herself lying in a clinic bed.

“It’s been just over a week since I did my second round of egg freezing with @apricity_fertility and thought I would give a round up of my experience as best I could here,” the reality star wrote.

“I was lucky as this was my second time doing this so I went in quite prepared,” she continued, noting her main symptoms were “bloating, tiredness and very hungry (all of which are gone now).”

She added, “I personally found the injections fine, the biggest issue with me is the time frame in the evening. I chose 8pm but with my schedule I found this hard to be consistent with.”

Kelliher also praised Apricity Fertility, revealing, “I had a VERY bad experience with the previous clinic mainly with accounting so a huge draw with Apricity was there one stop shop price (currently have a 15% discount until decemeber), when the pricing isn’t clear it can add up very quickly.”

She then shared more specific details about the procedure, revealing, “Going into this I had 5 follicles and three smaller ones. So the aim was to get five eggs. When I came out I was told there were six follicles and a few smaller ones but the doctor could only get three. We aren’t sure why this happened and why she couldn’t get the egg from three follicles.”

“I was pretty upset,” she added. “To have an expectation and to not reach that expectation was obviously very disappointing, for me personally physically it’s fine but mentally I find the whole thing so draining. Nine months ago I got 10 eggs and now three it creates intrusive thoughts in your head.”

Kelliher followed up with a second post, where she told her followers she’s “feeling so much better about it all now.”

“I took my future into my control and I have 13 frozen eggs to use if I wish to do so in the future,” she said. “This doesn’t guarantee a baby but guarantees I did what I could for when the time is right.”

“I’m so glad I shared this journey for women who felt alone, for women looking for information but also for me, I did not realise how many women and people I knew who were doing the same thing,” she continued, noting her “thoughts are with anyone going through any fertility experience at the moment, in the past or in the future.”

Kelliher, who is set to appear in the upcoming fifth season of Bravo’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht , previously opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs in an Instagram video earlier this month.

“The reason I decided to freeze my eggs is because I was 36, now I’m 37 and I am still single,” she explained. “I would like the option to have a family… At the moment, I would like a family, but if that doesn’t happen, that’s okay.”

‘All American’ Loses 5 More Series Regulars for Season 7

Former star Daniel Ezra initially announced his step back from the CW series back in June

“All American” is going to look a bit unfamiliar when it returns for Season 7.

Five more of the show’s cast won’t be returning as regulars when the CW series resumes airing in 2025 — Samantha Logan (Olivia), Cody Christian (Asher), Karimah Westbrook (Grace James), Monét Mazur (Laura Baker) and Chelsea Tavares (Patience) are all out, according to multiple reports.

They join Daniel Ezra – who starred as Spencer James since the show began in 2018 – who revealed earlier this year he was scaling back to only a recurring guest while also spending some time behind the camera in the director’s chair.

TheWrap has reached out to The CW for comment.

“After making the difficult decision to leave ‘All American,’ my sole focus became completing the journey of the most life-affirming character I’ve ever played in the manner he deserves. Thanks to Nkechi [Okoro Carroll] and the writers, I got my wish,” Ezra said in a statement back in June. “Season 6 is Spencer’s goodbye. I’ll miss him. I’ll miss our cast and crew. I hope it’s been as fun to watch him as it has been to play him.”

Following this exodus, the CW series will only have three series regulars returning. Michael Evans Behling (Jordan), Greta Onieogou (Layla) and Bre-Z (Coop) are all reported to be back for Season 7. They’ll be joined by Antonio J. Bell (Khalil) and Alexis Chikaeze (Amina) who’ve been bumped up to full-time status.

However, the above departures shouldn’t come as massive shocks for fans of the show, as many of the aforementioned characters were heading off and out to start their futures in New York and elsewhere.

Here’s the official logline: “Season 7 is taking it back to where it all began… Beverly Hills High and South Crenshaw High. It’s the same heart, same NFL dream, same crosstown rivalry, same messy hormones, ushered in by a new generation of L.A. teens, a new Beverly Coach and our OG vortex fam, who are surprised to find they’re supposed to be the responsible adults now.”

“All American” is scheduled to return on the CW in 2025.

At long last, Below Deck Sailing Yacht returns for its fifth season on October 7. Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher , and first mate Gary King are leading the Parsifal III into unchartered waters this season: Ibiza. While fans will miss OG cast member Colin MacRae—whose romance with Kelliher ended very, very badly—there is a new crew of yachties to obsess over this season. Chief engineer Davide Morosi, chef Cloyce Martin, deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch, and stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren will no doubt be stirring up trouble as they work hard during charters and party hard on their nights off.

The trailer begins on a sad note. Now single, Kelliher returns to the Parsifal III. “Going into this season, I got rid of some dead weight,” Kellier says via voiceover as footage of MacRae and Kelliher canoodling flashes on the screen. “The breakup did a number on me last year, but now, I’m coming back more focused, full of energy.” As she sits triumphantly in her confessional seat, Kelliher says firmly to camera: “I’m fucking good at my job, and I’m taking back the reins.” On cue, the very next scene is Kelliher yelling at King while he lies in his bunk. “I’m not fucking carrying this season on my own, you fucking prick!” The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The trailer then continues to show off its new setting: Ibiza. “Ibiza is known as being the party capital of the world,” says Captain Glenn via voiceover. As guests are shown enjoying themselves, the yacht heels, causing random objects to shatter. Later, the crew gathers for their first meeting. “This is the last time we’ll all be friends so enjoy it,” Kelliher tells the team. “We”ll either fuck each other or fight each other.” “Or both,” replies Captain Glenn cheekily.

A montage of chaos ensues as Kelliher spills a drink, guests boink their heads, and Martin sets off a fire alarm while trying to achieve a fancy, flaming presentation. Morosi is even shown fully nude trying drunkenly to climb into the bed above Captain Glenn’s in their shared cabin. “You all right?” asks Captain Glenn warily. “Nearly,” says Morosi shakily.

While several hookups between the crew are shown—including Kelliher and Martin—and people are shown doing their jobs poorly, the most dramatic part of the trailer involves Captain Glenn’s reading the crew the riot act after giving them permission to party with some guests during a charter. “I set some ground rules, two drinks maximum,” says Captain Glenn as he scolds the crew. “You knew the rules, you broke the fucking rules, and now you’re here getting upset.” Stunned, the group can only look on.

As the trailer ends on a dramatic scene when another yacht is about to crash into the Parsifal III. Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans are left to wonder: could this be the most dramatic season yet? Tune in to Bravo on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c to find out!

The iconic reality TV show's last two seasons covered Spain and Italy. Therefore, it wouldn't be surprising that the crew is exploring nearby areas and visiting exotic locations such as Ibiza. The location is part of Spain's Balearic Islands, including resort cities such as Palma. It seems like a perfect setup for the show.

34-year-old First Officer Gary King has been mired in controversy . While his reputation throughout his three seasons in Below Deck Sailing Yacht has largely been negative, with fans believing him to be sleazy, a pot-stirrer, and a bad boss, optics have gotten even worse for Gary. A former makeup artist for the Below Deck franchise, Samantha Suarez came forward in August 2023, alleging that Gary was sexually inappropriate with her during filming in the summer of 2022. Daveed Diggs has been cast in the fifth and final season of “ The Boys ,” Variety has learned.

It was announced in June that “The Boys” would be ending with Season 5 . Exact character details are being kept under wraps, but Diggs will appear in a series regular role in the Amazon Prime Video series. He will appear alongside returning cast members Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and Cameron Crovetti.
