About the Business

Founded in 1965, HHYC Has played an active role in our community by providing a venue for many local philanthropic groups and offering a true Yacht Club experience to our growing membership. Our members enjoy on and off the water events that bring a certain pride and togetherness to those that take part in our fun cruises and boating events. Our kids Sailing School, well known as the Huntington Beach Sailing Foundation, will teach the needed skills to the many kids that will be the future of Sailing throughout Southern California. We are more than a Yacht Club as many of our non boat owners will tell you, as the social functions at the club are the reasons many people from our community have joined together to take part in our many Holiday events or attend a Friday evening starting at our bar, overlooking Catalina Island, followed by a well presented dinner in our spacious dining room. Also popular is our Sunday Brunch in a sunny bay setting while sipping a mimosa and meeting new friends. …

We joined HHYC 2 years ago to meet locals and get to know the community and we love it! Everyone has been so nice and inclusive. We love coming to a place where as soon as you walk in you know everyone. They have weekly and monthly gatherings and events for a chance to get to know each other. I saw the "prejudice" comment here on Yelp and thought how unfortunate that the reviewer went to that rather then understanding that HHYC is a private club and to allow a constant flow of people to come in to use the facility during the Christmas cruise of lights tour that thousands attend would be in appropriate. Often there are private parties using and or renting the facility. There are public restrooms in the building right next door by the fire dept. along with the out houses rented for the Christmas cruises. Sunday brunch is open to the public but the rest of the week is for the members and their guests. We have brought guests of all back grounds, race, religion and politics and all have been more then welcomed. I'm grateful for the kindness HHYC has shown to us, our family and friends.

Went here for brunch on a Sunday and I couldn't help notice that it was a bit of an older crowd , looks like some of them were in the war... "The Civil War". As much as I love supporting a local yacht club this place needs to get a younger crowd or it's gonna be out of die [Quite literally].. But the thing that I found most strange is they kept four of the most dilapidated nonfloating broken down sailboats right in front of the deck. Geez for crying out loud give those things a Viking funeral roll them into the Pacific and sink em. When I see something like that right in front of the most important part of the yacht club, the deck overlooking the bay, I have to ask myself who is running their poor old run down place. There were one or two young families but on the whole the place was very very very retired people .

A great place to boat for Sunday Brunch. It starts at 10:30 and is open to the public. All you can drink Mimosas for $7.00. You just can't beat that. They have all the standards: waffle bar, omelette bar, seafood, potatoes, bacon, sausage, fruit, etc. Nothing glamorous, but it's consistently good food, lots of dock space, and outdoor seating as well as indoor.

A fantastic location serviced by a team of courteous and professional staff.

I recently joined HHYC and I absolutely love it. The staff and service is great! Every time I walk in I'm greeted by other members and the staff remember what I like to order. Everyone here treats me like family.

Wow, what can I say? Great Sunday brunch that is open to the public as sort of an open house for guests and prospective members to check it out. The bar is open EVERYDAY! They have great sandwiches, salads, taco's, shrimp, etc during all the bar hours (5-10pm weekdays plus weekend afternoon/evenings). If you are a yacht club member, this club is fully reciprocal. If you are not, come by for Sunday brunch 10-1 or in the evenings ask if one of the members there will invite you as a guest (most will) and check it out. If your club is not always open, you should stop by and join us for a drink, some great food, conversation, and sports on several tv's. Beautiful patios overlook the harbour and the beach.

This is a nice Harbor to go out of and head to Catalina for good fishing. The drive out is lengthy, maybe 45 minutes due to the "no wake" areas. Great views and pretty homes adorn the bays here.

Photo of Yvette A.

wasn't a great experience for me. the servers were rude and made rude comments call my friend a dog. also while cutting my sister's wedding cake the server was licking and sticking on her fingers so gross. I don't know her name but she had a short hair cut. I don't think our family will ever use this place again.

Public boat channel for Huntington Harbour opens Thursday

  • Copy Link URL Copied!

Huntington Harbour Yacht Club commodore Rudy Lopez said he hopes to take his boat out into the ocean on Thursday, weather permitting.

It isn’t just another day for Lopez.

Thursday marks the first day that the new civilian boating channel through the Anaheim Bay will be open to the public, Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach has announced.

“I just want to go out there, putz around, get into the open water and come on back,” Lopez said. “I think it’s a historic thing for us as a club. You can take that travel path any time you want, but there’s nothing like that very first day.”

Under the former configuration, which has been in place since Huntington Harbour was developed in the 1960s, civilian boaters had to pass through the Navy base in order to enter and exit the Pacific Ocean through Huntington Harbour. Now, they have their own dedicated lane.

The old channel is becoming part of Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and being blocked off, said Gregg Smith, public affairs officer for the weapons station.

“It improves safety and security, both for the boating community as well as for the Navy,” Smith said.

The new channel is part of a $154-million U.S. Navy project designed to reconfigure Anaheim Bay, as well as build a new ammunition pier for the Navy. The project is set to be completed in 2024.

“We have an ammunition pier currently,” Smith said. “It’s actually an ammunition wharf, but it was originally constructed in 1944 and then rebuilt in 1953. It’s not been substantially modified since that time, so yes, we are definitely looking forward to a replacement.”

Smith said the public channel had to be completed before construction could continue. He added that the weapons station hopes to shorten the amount of time that the channel is closed whenever a Navy ship is entering or exiting.

“The Navy ships and civilian boats will still share the outer part of the bay there, where the mouth of the arrowhead jetties are, but it will be a much smaller area of the bay than they were sharing before,” he said.

That is good news to Lopez and the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club, who have been awaiting the channel’s opening.

“We’re located at the southernmost part of that whole channel, so we have a longer way to travel,” Lopez said. “Cutting down a little bit of the time to get into the open water is a good thing.”

Work on armoring the sides of the new channel will continue for several more months.

Orange County Yacht Clubs and Why They’re Great

huntington harbour yacht club

One of the best ways to experience Orange County is by water, and the coastal cities that line the county are filled with boating enthusiasts and their favorite yacht club homes. Here are a few yacht clubs for boaters looking for a home to house their vessel or a community to join.

Huntington Harbour Yacht Club

The HHYC was formed in October of 1965 and is a welcoming place for boating and non-boating enthusiasts alike. Since 1966 the club has been a member of the Southern California Yachting Association, attaining senior membership in 1981. The club is also a current member of the United States Sailing Association and has a sailing school that trains more than 40 young sailors each year while also maintaining a competitive sailing program that has produced a good number of nationally ranked sailors, including crewmembers on the American entry in the America’s Cup racing series. In addition, traveling members of the HHYC are welcomed to clubs all over the world.

“Evenings are for our members and their guests to enjoy casual dining and drinks in the Commodores Lounge, said HHYC Club Manager Frank DiLapo in an email from Sept. 5. “Sunday’s the Club host Breakfast by the Bay, this meal period is open to the public. It is a wonderful opportunity for those who would like to learn more about the Club and experience this special place. The Club’s event calendar is chock full of celebratory parties for members’ enjoyment, many including live dance music. Finally, we are also respected for our robust Huntington Harbour Sailing Foundation, where we teach local children self-esteem and teamwork while introducing them to sailing. We have over 50 boats in inventory, including Sabots, CFJs, Lidos, and a new fleet of Cubes and Bics; many are available for our members to check out.”

The HHYC welcomes new members all year round and is happy to provide additional information about the club upon request.

According to SCYA, the Membership costs are:

Initiation fee: $850

Dues: $900 for a family, $575 for a single, and $50 for a junior member.

For more information, visit  https://www.hhyc.org/ .

Newport Harbor Yacht Club

The NHYC, established in 1916, is located on the Balboa Peninsula and is part of the SCYA. It offers a physical and social environment for its members to pursue yachting, yacht racing, and sportsmanship.

NHYC also represents the Newport Harbor Sailing Foundation which has provided training and instruction to youths since 1997.

This private club welcomes reciprocal visitors who can provide a current membership card from the yacht club. The club offers different dining facilities as well as the Pirate’s Den Bar. In addition, the venue has showers and restrooms available 24 hours a day.

The club is known for several signature races between Feb. and March, including the Islands race, Newport to Cabo Race, Baldwin Cup Team Race, and the Long Point Race Week.

In addition, they offer a junior sailing program.

NHYC is currently accepting new members. However, new members must be nominated by a current member. Initiation fees and monthly dues are confidential.

For more information, visit  https://www.nhyc.org/default.aspx?p=dynamicmodule&pageid=383257&ssid=318178&vnf=1 .

Dana Point Yacht Club

The Dana Point Yacht Club was founded in 1952 and has remained a spirited part of the SoCal yachting community with events and activities that include the entire family. Members get access to wine dinners, live music, and a lineup of busy cruise and race schedules.

A DPYC is known for its annual Richard Henry Dana Charity Regatta, a harbor event that brings together the yacht club community to benefit the Dana Point 5th Maritime Regiment Support Group.

The club has a junior sailing program, competitive racing opportunities from local fleets to championship regattas, cruising fleet activities with organized outings to destinations in SoCal and beyond, fishing excursions with monthly educational angler meetings, dining a bar facilities, and even has a wine club.

The DPYC welcomes visitors and offers guests slips for incoming sailors and is also a member of SCYA. In addition, it’s a great venue that holds private events such as weddings, galas, and celebrations of all types with its oceanfront ballroom.

According to SCYA.org, the club is accepting membership applications. Call the office for details at (949) 496- 2900.

For more information, visit  https://www.dpyc.org/ .

Dana West Yacht Club

DWYC is a SCYA Senior Club that offers its members and guests various services and activities. DWYC is known for its annual three-day charity regatta, Sailing for Life, which supports the American Cancer Society.

The club offers youth sailing programs year-round, a highly active cruising program, and competitive racing and is represented in regional regattas, championships, and international races. In addition, DWYC has fishing tournaments for anglers and a calendar always full of events. DWYC hosts events such as karaoke, weekly game nights, sports viewings, dinghy poker, and parties with live music, dancing, costumes, and prizes.

According to SCYA.org, Membership: Non-boat wait list; Initiation: $650/flag. Dues: $816 per year.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■
