With the Oyster 100, Oyster Marine has officially moved up into mega-yacht territory, and has tapped Ed Dubois to usher it into this category where he has long-established design expertise. It has also tapped into the largely unexploited boatbuilding resources of Turkey to construct it.

At this size, the classic oyster-shell deckhouse stretches laterally in proportion to its height, streamlining a profile that, with its unexaggerated sheer and near-plumb bow, already has a low and purposeful look. Towering 140 feet above the water, the carbon-fiber mast supports a sloop rig that embodies simplicity and power, power that is harnessed through the use of state-of-the-art machinery.

Belowdecks, the general configuration is dictated by the raised saloon area, but the details will of course be decided by individual owners. The suggested arrangement shows the area forward of the mast devoted to the galley, crew mess, and crew quarters.

Yacht with 1,000 rounds of ammunition and fireworks burns in Marina del Rey

Marina del Rey’s harbor produced an unexpected light show Wednesday evening as a luxury yacht loaded with ammunition and fireworks burned for more than two hours before flames were extinguished, authorities said.

Flames leaped 20 to 30 feet from the 100-foot vessel, dubbed the Admiral, while live ammunition rounds could be heard firing from the boat, according to videos from the scene .

Thursday morning, the charred yacht was lying on its side, and the water around it was tinted red from the diesel fuel dumped from the vessel. A Coast Guard spokesperson said an estimated 4,000 gallons of diesel was dumped into the water. The total is not official as monitoring continues.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said two passengers aboard the boat exited safely. No information was available about the cause of the blaze.

An L.A. County Fire spokesperson said one individual suffered minor injuries, was treated at the scene and was released.

The boat, traveling at a high speed, crashed into the jetty near its slip, killing a man. It would have been much worse, if not for the quick thinking of a passenger.

Firefighters responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and eventually knocked out the flames at 10:33 p.m. The boat was declared fully submerged at 11:33 p.m.

The yacht’s owner, who was not identified, told fire officials that the vessel was carrying 1,000 rounds of ammunition and fireworks.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel confirmed they were on the scene evaluating cleanup options.

100-foot yacht explodes in marina del rey.

A boat was completely destroyed in a massive fire in Marina del Rey.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - A boat is completely destroyed after exploding in Marina del Rey .

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a call in the 13800 block of Bora Bora Way a little after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18. 

Firefighters say two people safely got out of a 100-foot-long yacht. Neither were hurt in the massive fire, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

SkyFOX was over the scene around 8:45 p.m. when the boat was engulfed in flames.

A boat was destroyed in a fire in Marina del Rey. It is unknown if people were inside the boat at the time of the explosion.

As of late Wednesday night, officials did not say what caused the boat to catch fire.

Oysters Mosca

• Yield: 2 to 3 servings

Ingredients

• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
• 1/4 cup diced onion
• 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped garlic
• 1 pint oysters with their liquor
• 1 cup brown stock
• 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
• Creole spice
• 1 cup bread crumbs
• 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
• 1 tablespoon chopped basil
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• Preheat a broiler. In a saute pan cook onions in vegetable oil, add garlic and toss for 1 minute. Add oyster liquor and stock and bring to a boil. Reduce liquids by half. Reduce heat to simmering, add oysters and parsley, and heat through. Adjust seasonings to taste with Creole spice. Pour into a shallow baking dish. Combine bread crumbs, cheese, basil, 1 teaspoon Creole spice and olive oil; use to top oysters. Broil until top is browned and bubbly, about 8 minutes.

Ice cold oysters topped with sparkling wine, a drop of lemon, black caviar, and cool sour cream are proof that you can’t put a price tag on love. The only way to make these more decadent is to have someone feed them to you. Ahem.

Oysters Moscow Shooters Recipe

Ingredients.

• Sparkling wine
• 3 Teaspoons sour cream
• 6 Teaspoons American black caviar
• Fresh chives for garnish (optional)
• Shuck six oysters and place them on ice.
• Add ½ teaspoon of Champagne or other sparkling wine to each.
• Add a drop of lemon juice to each.
• Top each oyster with ½ teaspoon of sour cream and 1 teaspoon caviar. Note: Try to place the caviar on the oyster flesh, out of the liquid. The wine and juice can cause the caviar to separate.
• Garnish with chives.
• Serve immediately.
