Dubai court ruling on ownership of superyacht LUNA to be appealed

After the 155m/377ft motor yacht LUNA was awarded to the owner’s ex-wife in ongoing divorce proceedings last month, the owner claims he will appeal the ruling in the UAE.

The saga over the ownership of LUNA continues, as owner Farkhad Akhmedov claims he will appeal the validity of his 2000 divorce of ex-wife Tatiana Akhmedova in Russia in the next two months.

The appeal comes after a Sharia court upheld a former ruling that the ownership of the superyacht be transferred to Tatiana Akhmedova as part of a 2016 divorce payout.

A spokesperson for Akhmedov has disputed claims that LUNA will be available for the owner’s wife to sell soon, saying that it would “take years before the Dubai full legal processes are exhausted.”

“We never expected any other outcome at this stage and remain confident that Luna will be free to leave Dubai once the judges have heard the full facts of the matter.” The statement reads.

“Last week’s hearing, presided over by a single judge, did not consider the legal arguments in any detail.

“Mr Akhmedov anticipates that Russian courts will be ruling within the next month on the validity of the original 2000 divorce between Mr Akhmedov and his ex-wife Tatiana. It is that divorce which fundamentally underlined the misguided decisions of the English high court in awarding her a second divorce payout in 2016.” The statement continues.
