The Royal Irish Yacht Club is fortunate to have a number of venues within the premises where Members can host events. The Cellar offers a truly unique and intimate dining experience for parties of up to ten. The Library can cater for up to thirty people depending on table configurations. Our Wet Bar can cater for parties of up to two hundred people but can be subdivided to create a more intimate environment for smaller parties or functions. Our Catering Manager and head chef work with members to plan all aspects of one’s special function. So whether it’s a christening, birthday party, anniversary, wedding, school reunion, fund-raiser or business function, the team are on hand to provide advice and guidance based on their extensive knowledge and experience garnered over many years thus guaranteeing you an end-to-end experience that is unrivalled in other clubs.   Dún Laoghaire
 he National Yacht Club is the third oldest of the 4 yacht club premises on the seafront at Dun Laoghaire, and is the club closest to the East Pier. The lease of the site of the premises was first granted by the Commissioners of Kingstown Harbour to the Committee of the Amateur Rowing Club (afterwards called The Kingstown Royal Harbour Boat Club) for 20 years from 1st May 1870 at a rent of 10 shillings per annum. The Club buildings and boat slip were duly erected to a design by William Sterling at a cost of about £4,000. The Club went into liquidation in 1881 and the premises were purchased by a Captain Leslie Peacocke ( of the 16th Lancers, resident at Villagio, Coliemore Raod, Dalkey) and others for £1,250 who formed a proprietary club called the Kingstown Yacht Club. In 1887, the Club again went into liquidation and the secretarial address moved to Howard Place, Kingstown (now replaced by the shopping centre). The premises were then purchased in 1901 by a Mr Charles Barrington (of Fassaroe, Bray Mountaineer & race horse owner) the interest in his lease was purchased by three trustees for £1,300, and these trustees apparently formed the Edward Yacht Club. A further lease was granted for 41 years from 1st November 1905. At a special meeting held in March 1931, the name of the club was changed to the National Yacht Club with the Earl of Granard appointed Commodore. Sterling’s design for the exterior of the club was a hybrid French Chateau and eighteenth century Garden Pavilion and today as a Class A restricted building it continues to provide elegant dining and bar facilities. An early drawing of the building shows viewing balconies on the roof and the waterfront façade. Subsequent additions of platforms and a new slip to the seaward side and most recently the construction of new changing rooms, offices and boathouse provide state of the art facilities, capable of coping with major international and world championship events.

A flight of granite steps ascends to the front portico flanked by doric columns, immediately setting the elegant tone and grandeur of what awaits inside. The entrance vestibule with vaulted ceiling and ornate ceiling plasterwork leads to the entrance hall. The light filled accommodation on the hall floor offers gracious proportions and has stunning marble period fireplaces and ceiling heights of approximately 12'. On the left of the hallway, is the kitchen / breakfast room with oriel bay window. This stunning open plan space spans the depth of the house and is fitted with contemporary hand painted units, large breakfast island and integrated appliances. On the right-hand side of the hallway are the impressive formal interconnecting receptions also boasting an oriel bay window with working shutters, ornate ceiling plasterwork and marble fireplaces. There is an excellent choice of local schools, and the DART provides access to many of South County Dublin's well regarded secondary schools. The DART at Salthill Station is less than a five-minute walk away and a number of Dublin Bus Routes together with The Aircoach pass through Monkstown Village, making a commute to the city centre & Dublin Airport both a rapid and easy journey. Emerging like a phoenix, demand for top grade team racing events has resulted in the revival of the renowned George Invitational which maintained twenty years of continuity in the sport in Dun Laoghaire in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s until the club ran the 2 nd World Team Racing Championships in 1999. In times past the Invitational welcomed the top team racers from the UK, Ireland & the US to Dun Laoghaire to compete for the George Invitational Trophy. Set against the backdrop of the home of Team Racing in Dun Laoghaire, the George is organising two days of Swiss League team racing aboard Fireflies dinghies followed by knockout sailing on May the 25th and 26th. The event is a celebration of the clubs long & successful history as the cradle of Irish team racing and the birthplace of the sport almost eight decades ago. Alongside the racing there will be an opportunity for team racers past and present to meet & enjoy the event in the George & participate in the dinner on Saturday night in the George dining room for all sailors, race officials and volunteers.
