Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing has become a premier manufacturer of custom and semi-custom designed and manufactured cruising and performance sailing catamarans, power catamarans and charter catamarans . Two Oceans also manufactures offshore rescue craft . The company is one of only a handful of large custom catamaran manufacturers in the world. Designed and built to cruise the world or for high speed performance and customised to suit the owners’ needs, these catamarans are expertly built with flawless finishing.

Extensive testing is performed on all new production boats, prior to the completion of moulds. Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing is fortunate to have on their doorstep access to some of the most demanding sea conditions the world has to offer in the seas of Cape Town in which to perform these tests. Potential clients can fly to Cape Town, sea trial the vessel of their choice, visit the factory to witness the building methods and the materials used in production, customise their choice of vessel, and then fly home on the same day. Completed vessels are launched and sea trialed within a short distance of the factory, thereby saving time and unnecessary expense on travel.

Our new HopYacht 30 catamaran makes sailing easy and effortless, by simplifying the things that make traditional yachts feel like hard work. ​

Designed specifically for couples or families with young children the HopYacht 30 is easy to sail short-handed. With the stability of a catamaran, anxious newcomers to sailing will quickly feel at home, and that means you can  relax!

Perfect for hopping from bay to bay, coastal or short island hops and with a mast lowering system perfect for exploring inland waterways . But why stop there? To explore another region of the world, the HopYacht 30 has demountable hulls and will fit into two standard 40' containers. Assembly at your new destination is straightforward. With the same beam as a typical 36'- 40' monohull,  you'll have more options to secure a berth in busy marinas and of course mooring fees will be much lower than a typical wide beam catamaran!

Easy to sail.

With just one sail to manage,  you  can say goodbye to the typical clutter of  control lines, cleats, jammers and winches. You will may  also  find yourself smiling  quietly as you watch how other sailors spend endless hours rigging and de-rigging.

The HopYacht 30 has a single low profile  Genoa  inspired  by the East African Dhow. This  unique sail plan means there are just two sheets, one two-speed winch and a  single furling line. Everything set up at the helm station, to make  singlehanded  sailing  a breeze. Hop onboard and you're ready to sail in less time than it takes to untie the mooring lines.

Easy to dock.

Getting out of a marina is usually the easy part, getting back in when it's windy or the marina is crowded, is often a  different story. The  HopYacht 30 has three vital ingredients to make docking so much easier (especially mooring stern to).

1. Twin electric motors With twin electric motors, to  manoeuvre at slow speed simply  leave the wheel centred and steer using the throttles only. With one motor in forward and the other in reverse, the HopYacht 30 will turn on its own axis. Electric motors  also have  a lot more torque, providing i nstant  thrust to position and stop the boat, right where you want it.

2. Electronic Throttles

The throttle controls on the HopYacht 30 are   electronic and not mechanical. This gives you  infinitely  more control at your fingertips. Pushing the  'Dock' button restricts the power settings and prevents you from applying too much power, just when you don't need it!

3. Visibility

The position of the helm station on the HopYacht 30 provides great all-round visibility,  giving  you the confidence to squeeze into tight spaces.

In reverse, you can step out on to the side deck to gain better visibility and still have easy access to the throttles. When going astern you can also g auge   distance to the dock  even more accurately looking  through the cockpit seating area. The cockpit awnings are made with mesh see-through panels providing great  visibility, even when the cockpit is fully enclosed.

Effortless .

The  cockpit,  saloon  and forward cabin areas are all on the same level with full standing headroom throughout, eliminating the hassle and hazard of climbing up and down  companionway steps.

One level  also  introduces more light into the interior with large wrap around windows. HopYacht's layout creates  a natural flow of air throughout, keeping you  naturally  cool, without the need for  air-conditioning. 

E-Sailing .

Equipped with electric sail drives plus   electric  water heating and cooking, fossil fuel pollution is  eliminated. Th ere's also no noise  pollution. With  whisper quiet electric motors,  re-charged by four  solar panels,  HopYacht is truly eco-sensitive. 

Unlike yachts with d iesel engines, motor sailing now becomes a real joy. We call this E-Sailing! A great way to enjoy m ore  efficient sailing, especially when you need to beat the tide or get home before dark. A bit like riding an E-Bike!

Relaxation super-yacht style.

Our design team have extensive experience creating interiors for larger luxury catamarans and borrowed a number of ideas to enhance the overall  comfort of our HopYacht. A good example is the  wrap-around cockpit seating which is  fully upho lstered and converts into a day bed with room for two!

A proper island bed.

Standard yacht berths  often make you  feel like you are on a camping holiday! HopYacht's forward cabin features a proper walk-around queen sized bed (1.92m x 1.53m). With the large wrap  around windows the forward cabin becomes both sleeping and chill out  space.

Sunbathing can be thirsty work!

If you take  relaxation  seriously, you'll love the trampoline area at the bow. No more tossing a coin to see who will fetch the refreshments, because built into the aft section of the anchor locker is a cooler box with drink holders. 

Galley integrated into the cockpit area.

For relaxed holiday style sailing, having the galley in the under-cover cockpit area  makes a huge amount of sense. The cook is able to socialise and enjoy the view while cooking. In warm weather, it's much cooler and the heat (and smell) from cooking isn't trapped inside the saloon

And if the weather isn't playing along to cook 'al  fresco', the cockpit awnings have both a mesh 'breathable' layer and a clear layer to keep out the rain, making the galley usable in all  weathers.

Located in Cape Town, South Africa, Robertson and Caine currently manufacture 3 sailing catamarans and 3 power catamarans for the world markets. Ranging in size from 40-53ft.

We strive to be the benchmark for ocean cruising catamarans. Through innovative design, development of new materials and processes, handcrafted skills and strict quality standards.

R&C continues to position itself as a world-class manufacturer with the objective to deliver quality products throughout the world.

All of our boats are built in accordance with ISO standards and are certified by the International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) in accordance with the Recreational Craft Directive 2013/53/EU. Additionally, our product is also certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) to ABYC standards. We are members of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) and the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA).

With plants covering over 60 000 sqm, manufacturing a range of six models by a Team of 2400+ persons, Robertson and Caine is focused upon producing world-class catamarans of exceptional build quality. Adhering to sustainable and safe production practices.

Our design philosophy is integration simplified. We blend the ease of boat handling with effective boat speed, without compromising onboard comfort and functionality. Our inhouse design Teams in Tampa and Cape Town, constantly innovate form and function, producing award winning industry benchmark catamarans in power and sail.

Construction

To build for solid blue water performance, Robertson and Caine use superior materials, fit for purpose, with every step of the build process, adhering to global standards and subject to stringent quality control. Robertson and Caine catamarans dominate the charter fleets of The Mooring and Sunsail, thus are built to be reliable, with low maintenance.

The construction of these vessels incorporates various manufacturing processes such as Hand Laminating, Vacuum Infusion as well as Resin Transfer Moulding to build the required composite parts. For structural parts, multiaxial E-Glass is used in combination with PVC Foam Core within vacuum infusion processes to provide rigidity, impact resistant and buoyant vessels.

Isophthalic/Vinyl Ester resins and NPG gelcoats prevents the onset of hydrolysis. The strong hull laminate is light and durable resulting in a dynamic weight-carrying capacity and excellent motion reaction.

Manufacturing techniques such as vacuum infusion, RTM Light, air demoulding and full deck/hull infusion are used to build a lighter, sturdier product, with greater performance potential.

Each of our six models has their own dedicated production facilities from moulding to final assembly. These are served by a joinery manufacturing facility and a distribution centre. Three catamarans are launched weekly. The catamarans are then shipped globally, with the mast already stepped, through the Port of Cape Town on transport vessels.

5-axis CNC Machining

5-Axis machining involves using a CNC system to move the table/bed and cutting tool along five different axes simultaneously. This enables the machining of very complex parts, which is why 5-axis is especially popular for marine applications.

All the machining and milling is done on advanced styling and tooling base materials with precision robotic systems ensuring perfect accuracy each and every time.

Hand Built Plugs

After the assembly of CNC cut timber profiles, our skilled workforce effect the cladding of the plug. Each step of the process is closely monitored by a team of Composite Engineers and tooling experts.

The plug will then be polished to a class "A" finish and handed over for a final quality check and approval. At this stage, new moulds may be developed for production.

Deck & Hull Infusion

The resin-infused Deck & Hull laminate is strong, light and durable resulting in a dynamic weight-carrying capacity and excellent motion reaction.

High-density PVC foam cores are extensively used throughout all the resin-infused parts. The cores are all CNC cut and nested to precise dimensions as per the engineering drawings.

Advanced Fabrics

Multiaxial E-glass stitched fabrics ensure maximum strength and promote a very high calibre glass-to-resin ratios. These fabrics includes, but are not limited to, unidirectional, biaxial and quadraxial E-glass.

Collision Bulkheads

In case of hull damage, watertight collision bulkheads at bow and stern prevent water from entering the hull.

Internal Modules

Internal modules are assembled offline which in turn allows for ease of production as well as enhanced quality control, before final fitment.

NPG gelcoats and a Vinyl Ester resins are used for underwater applications to ensure a resin-rich E-glass barrier layer is achieved which improves resistance to hydrolysis and helps prevent osmosis.

Light Resin Transfer Moulding

Automated moulding processes are used to allow for repeatability at the same weight & quality every time.

At Robertson & Caine, we systematically evaluate the quality of our products at every manufacturing stage to ensure that quality standards are met.

Cape Town City’s Problem Building Unit continues to make great leaps

The City of Cape Town’s Problem Building Unit has more than doubled the number of cases closed annually.

The unit has further been expanded and continues to address the rising number if complaints received about buildings which have been left abandoned or suffer from immense damage, reports Cape {town} Etc .

In the last financial year, spanning from July 2023 to June 2024, the specialised Law Enforecement unit closed 425 cases.

The number of cases closed in the previous financial year was 207, indicating a tremendous increase in case closure.

The Problem Building Unit has had 27 new problem buildings declared and currently has an average of 291 active cases which are in various investigative stages. Furthermore, the unit has initiated legal proceedings against 55 property owners.

The Unit enforces the Problem Property By-law 2020 to identify and react to complaints as well as to manage dilapidated and potential problem buildings.

The Unit consists of 13 staff members and the by-law they follow mandates the issuing of a compliance notice and then potentially instituting a tariff which is charged to the owner’s municipal account. Legal action is threatened as a last resort, to compel the owner to take action.

‘These buildings can become dangerous as they are used as dump sites and are health and fire hazards. Then there is the environmental impact and the associated costs to contend with,’ said JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.

Further problems include properties which have been abandoned by owners, deceased estates and properties which are subject to illegal occupation.

‘The unit is making great strides in addressing the problem. I encourage residents to report potential problem buildings to Law Enforcement, the sooner it gets reported, the sooner our staff can act to limit the impact on the neighbourhood,’ commented Smith.

The Unit may only follow procedure or take action once an official complaint has been lodged against the owner of a potential problem building.

Problem Building Complaints can be reported to the City’s 24-hour emergency control room on 021 480 7700.
