Great day trip on Scooby Doo with a bunch of friends. Easy to book and the PYC team were very responsive to my pre trip queries. The motor yacht was very comfortable and had lots of different areas so people could chill out or take part as much as they wanted. Staff on board were extremely attentive and helpful, making sure everyone had drinks at all points, including on the beach. The beach we were taken to was beautiful and broke up the day. Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Perfect day!

I am SO glad I chose this option to see Ang Thong Marine Park rather than a speed boat! The boat is fantastic. The comfy bean bags on deck, tables below, complimentary cold water and sodas, and clean bathroom made for a very comfortable trip. The food was absolutely delicious! York and Nut, the guides, were excellent. York is friendly, speaks English very well, and made everything fun. Nut also speaks English and was engaging, fun, and took pictures of everyone throughout the trip (especially snorkeling and kayaking). They both went above and beyond to make it a great day! Riding on the boat was so relaxing. I didn’t want the trip to end! My daughter and I did this together. I’m 54 and she is 22. We both loved it. We both snorkeled and kayaked and hiked up to the lagoon. And we both napped on beanbag chairs on deck on the way back. It was a perfect day!!

Pretty perfect

We booked onto a semi-private trip to Ang Thong aboard the Blue Dragon, after deliberating over several factors including speedboat vs slower boat, group size, feedback on the food, and price. So happy with our decision - we had a brilliant day from start to finish. The whole team worked hard to create a fun but also super-relaxing experience. Special shoutout to York and Nut, and the chef for freshly cooked and plentiful snacks and lunch - absolutely delicious. Highlights included: - v punctual and efficient pickup/dropoff in comfy air-conditioned minivan - the Thai wooden yacht is gorgeous and well maintained, with an abundance of beanbags plus space for sunbathers out front - snorkelling with several huge shoals of fish, we may have got lucky but we saw loads down there. we were impressed with the quality of fins, snorkels and lifejackets - and they took the time to fit us individually - kayaking in and out of caves during a tropical rainstorm - being at Emerald Lake with no other tour groups there - the team were more than happy take photos, both on their camera (they have an underwater one) and ours - great music, esp power ballads at sunset on the way home ;-)

Fantastic Day!!

From Start to end of day we were looked after so well. York and Nut were great hosts, always asking if we were ok or if we needed anything, very knowledgeable about the marine Park and very good sense of humour Chef was an amazing cook, 10/10 for food! Boat driver was great too, especially in very windy and dark conditions at the end. Boat was very comfortable and plenty of room for everyone, I would recommend this tour any day over one of the "jam packed, go where everyone else goes" boats. Each place we stopped we had to ourself. Kayaking brilliant! Snorkeling brilliant! Views of Marine Park brilliant! Guides even more brilliant! You will not be disappointed with this tour- go for it!! P.S for the person who organised the music, that was the best playlist I have heard for a long time! Great job

Unbelievable service! Unbelievable experience!

This experience was fantastic from start to finish. Koh Samui boat charter delivered well above and beyond what anyone in our group expected! We were a group of 24 people and each and every person had no quibbles of any kind and had the time off their lives! Take time among the 42 islands of the Mu Ko Angthong National Marine Park to explore the stunning limestone atolls with their onshore walks and caves that can be accessed by kayak. 

All these islands form a compact group just offshore the south-eastern Thai mainland, with direct flights between Samui International Airport and Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore amongst other major gateways. Bareboat charters start and finish at Fisherman's Village, Bophut, 15 minutes from the airport on the northern side of Koh Samui. Arrive a few days before your charter, get acclimatised and enjoy the jungle hikes, markets and nightlife of the area before setting sail to uncrowded islands as nature intended them, all within an easy sail of each other.  

Sailing Conditions around Koh Samui 

The Koh Samui boat charter season runs from May to August. While the western side of the Indo-Malayan peninsula is experiencing the southwest monsoon with its wet season and stronger winds, sheltered Samui is enjoys its best sailing holiday weather at that time of year. There is plentiful (but not too much) wind for good sailing in tropically warm temperatures with a comfortable sea state. This is a safe cruising ground with easy day sails between the islands and a choice of sheltered eastern-facing bays to overnight at anchor.  

If you'd like to sail the Gulf of Thailand in the Koh Samui off-season, the Koh Chang Arichpelago is the perfect sister-location.

The national park was also good: not clear water but the night time phosphorescence made up for that. We loved finding the hong inside the northern most island in the national park too. The Lagoon 400 S2 was an incredible boat! Easily the best choice for a family with kids. Comfortably slept all 9 of us and was very easy to manouvre. We'd definitely like to use her again in the future. Great communication, good organisation. All went very smoothly. Explore & Discover

To the South of Phuket there is a 100 nautical mile string of inshore islands, stretching from Koh Phi Phi to the Malaysian border. They offer tranquility and many opportunities for exploring.

East and South East of Phuket Island, the fabulous Phang Nga Bay, Krabi and Phi Phi Islands, together form an area of about 500 square miles. Here you will find sheltered sailing in all seasons.

The entire area is dotted with impressive lime stone formations, honeycombed with caves and fringed by mangroves. Three major rivers plus a couple of smaller ones flow in the Phang Nga Bay.

This is very much catamaran country, one could cruise here for many months exploring creeks, rivers and drying out in the mangroves. A typical feature are the hongs, high limestone islands which have collapsed in the middle, leaving a landlocked lagoon. Several of these lagoons are accessible by dinghy or kayak at low tide through caves.

Further attractions are Railey Beach, said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the well-known Phi Phi Islands offering impressive surroundings as well as great nightlife.

How do i book catamaran cataleya, and how do i pay.

If you wish to book a trip, after having confirmed availability, please notify us. You will then receive an invoice stating the amounts to be paid as a deposit and the outstanding balance. Also, the dates when these amounts are to be paid are stated. 

The deposit is due no later than 5 days after the invoice has been sent. After depositing, please inform us of your payment. Upon receiving this payment we will immediately send you a confirmation. 

We reserve the right to sell the charter to another party after sending the invoice, if not paid immediately after receiving the invoice. The general rule is first confirmed deposit, will receive the charter.

Can I make changes to my booking?

If the changes do not affect our scheduling, we will not charge you for making changes to your reservation. We will try to accommodate significant changes based on the circumstances.

Do I need insurance?

Your sailing holiday in phuket could start like this:.

You arrive by airplane at Phuket airport, where we pick you up and drive you to the base. In Chalong Bay our captain will meet you and brings you with the dinghy to Catamaran Cataleya.

You put your luggage into your cabin, get rid of the winter clothes, get your shorts on and a T-shirt.

When you get to the front of the yacht and relax in one of the bean bags, you close your eyes and ask “Where is the Champagne?”

We raise the sails and travel on a warm wind towards the sun, anchor in a beautiful bay on a tropical island.

The crew serves you exquisite local and European food freshly prepared and then, at last, you realize that you are on holiday!

The Sailing Grounds

Koh Samui, long known for its luxury spa retreats, tropical beaches, vibrant nightlife, and cozy island-time feel, has a secret; it’s also an excellent yacht charter cruising ground. It’s the diversity that makes it so unique; from Koh Pha Ngan’s white-sand beaches and crystal turquoise waters to world-class diving and snorkeling at Koh Tao, there is something for everyone.

The Ang Thong Marine Park offers breathtaking anchorages with its stunning limestone atolls, onshore walks, caves to explore by kayak and exotic wildlife.

Sailing conditions

The summer southeast monsoon places all the best anchorages in the lee for just these four months, offering you an endless choice of protected bays.

It’s an easygoing day sail between the three primary island groups; Samui & Pha Ngan, the Ang Thong Marine Park and Koh Tao, each being approximately 20 Nms apart, and it’s easy to spend several days at each destination.

Getting to Koh Samui

Koh Samui has an international airport with direct access to Singapore, Hong Kong and regional hubs.

For those that prefer overland travel, buses and trains run through the town of Surat Thani from Bangkok and Hat Yai (Phuket), then a taxi to Don Sak ferry can take an hour or so.

Yacht Charter Season

The yacht charter season kicks off in May and extends through to the end of August, and while the Indo-Malayan mountain range bears the force of the monsoon, Samui enjoys high-season weather while the rest of Thailand enjoys their green season.

Koh Samui Information and Resources

Island Spirit Yacht Charter – Koh Samui Base

The Island of Koh Samui does not have a marina. We moor our yachts in the sheltered bay of Bophut in the north of the island, home to the now partially gentrified Bophut Fisherman’s Village just 15 minutes away from Samui International Airport.

Our meeting point is at the end of the village road next to the Hansar Resort. We meet you to load all your gear to a dinghy and assist you out to your yacht. If you have enough crew, we can send some out to the yacht to get things organized, and the skipper and one crew can stay onshore to conduct the area briefing and then head out to the boat to finish with your yacht briefing.

Our team makes boarding from the beach easy; we help load all your gear and ferry everything out to the boat. However, being in touch for your arrival is essential to making things run smoothly, so please make sure you’re in contact with the base manager via Whatsapp. Fisherman’s Village offers many services, including:

• Accommodations for all budgets
• Dining and beach bars
• Friday Night Street Market
• Bophut Beach
• Shopping for apparel and souvenirs, but limited provisions
• Only ten minutes to the big markets, Makro, Big C and Tesco Lotus

Bophut Fisherman’s Village is a favorite for food and entertainment, so there is no rush to get going. Your yacht is already at an excellent place for your first night.

Your sailing itinerary will likely take you to the less traveled islands of Ang Thong Marine Park, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. But Koh Samui has a lot to offer, and spending a few days to enjoy the luxuries on offer is a great way to relax before or after your sailing adventure.

How to get to our Yacht Charter Base on Koh Samui

Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is on the east side of the Malay peninsula or the South China Sea side. In contrast, Phuket is on the west side of the Malay peninsula, by the Andaman Sea on the Indian Ocean side.

Koh Samui is part of Surat Thani Province and sits about 20 nm off the coast and 650 km south of Bangkok. Samui has an International Airport, and being such a distance from Bangkok, most people choose to fly in, but there are other options, as noted below. There is no marina in Samui; we operate our charter fleet from the sheltered bay of Bophut, home to the now partially gentrified Bophut Fisherman’s Village of the same name.

Flying to Samui

The safest and quickest way to get to the Island Spirit Yacht Charter Base on Koh Samui is to fly to the Samui International Airport (USM). There are direct flight options from various Asian countries and good connections through Bangkok and Singapore. From the Samui airport, it’s only a 15-minute taxi ride to the Island Spirit Yacht Charter Base in Bophut. We can have a taxi waiting for you on arrival, or you can grab a private or join-in taxi at the airport.

Flying to Surat Thani

Surat Thani is a busy and prosperous province and has a domestic airport serviced by many airlines. Flights are cheap and frequent, and while it can appear to be an attractive alternative to flying into Samui International, the overland trip may add an entire day to your travel schedule. It is not particularly rewarding on any front; if time is of the essence, we do not recommend this option.

By luxury tour bus

If you prefer to travel by road and come from Bangkok, several tour bus companies offer “luxury” bus trips. They are economical as they operate overnight; you leave in the evening and arrive on the island in the morning. They are pretty comfortable; you’ll have an aircraft- like seat, there’s a toilet on board and some rest-stops along the way. The fare usually includes the ferry and a minivan ride to your destination on the island. Trains, busses and other means.

Thailand is full of adventure, and there are so many ways to get yourself around the place. The train system with its old-fashioned sleeping cabins can be a great option, and then there are bike tours, self-drive options, and so on. No matter which way you travel, all roads lead to Surat Thani. From there, take a private or join-in taxi to the ferry at the terminal at Don Sak.

The Seatran company operates a car-ferry service from Donsak to Koh Samui, taking around 2 hours. Two passenger ferries operate on this route. The Lompraya high speed ferry is a modern commercial catamaran which takes around 45 minutes. Songserm operates a wooden ferry, which is popular with younger backpackers and takes a bit over an hour.

When you arrive on Koh Samui, it is easiest to grab a taxi outside the terminal and have them take you to our charter base. If you want to provision on the way, we should book the transfer for you, because our drivers will stay in touch with us, they understand your objective, and know which shops to visit.

If you’re on Koh Samui before your yacht charter, we are happy to get a taxi to pick you up from your hotel. We have a team of trusted drivers who speak English well and know the island. If you want to provision on the way, this is by far your best option, because our drivers will stay in touch with us, they understand your objective, and know which shops to visit.

We do our best to equip your yacht with everything you need to operate it safely and enjoy living aboard. Below is an inventory list of items included with your yacht as standard.

It is not necessarily an exhaustive list. So, for instance, your yachts’ galley is equipped with appropriate cooking utensils; pots, pans, serving trays, cheese graters, tea towels; we’ve tried hard to ensure you are not left wanting. We make up your cabins before you arrive with quality clean linens. Each berth has a personal blanket, bath towel, hand towel and fluffy pillow. If you would like additional linens, no problem, if you know in advance, book and include the fee when you make your booking, or just ask our staff assisting with your boarding. We also provide everything you need to operate your yacht and to deal with minor problems. Things like a spare anchor, toolbox, rope ties, bucket and deck brush, and spare winch handles. Of course, we’re on call to support you if required, but it’s nice to have the option to deal with the little things yourself.

Childrens life jackets

Comfort is the key to having a child accept wearing a life jacket, and they don’t work if they don’t wear them. If you’re sailing with a child that cannot swim, we strongly suggest that you invest in a quality, fitted life jacket for them and bring it with you. Island Spirit does have a selection of buoyancy vests suitable for some children; please book in advance to ensure availability.

It’s nice to have some toys out there to explore the smaller nooks and crannies on your journey. A kayak can also add a great deal of independence as it provides a means for people to go ashore without needing the tender.

Island Spirit can organize additional rental equipment for your yacht charter to take your adventure at sea to the next level. Usually, you rent equipment for the entire duration of your charter. Whether you pay for rental gear when you pay for your charter or plan to pay at the base, book the items you want before arriving to ensure availability.

Snorkel equipment

Each yacht already has a full complement of mask and snorkel sets, and there is a selection of fins on the dock for you to choose from, so there is no need to rent this equipment. We also have a selection of children’s sets available in our office.

Two-person kayaks are available to explore the many islands, paddle to the beach, up the streams or drift among your tropical surroundings. Kayaks are a great addition to a charter with larger groups or lots of older children; it gives you a chance to escape for some peaceful exploration or a romantic getaway. Kayaks are stowed on deck (not towed) and come with paddles.

Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP)

Step off your yacht onto the SUP and glide across the water’s surface. Explore the rivers, travel the coastlines, nooks and crannies or snorkel from your board around the smaller offshore islands and pinnacles. It’s a great way to experience the anchorages and surroundings while getting a little exercise. All our boards are over 350cm long x 80cm wide (11.5’ x31″), making it easy for beginners and children to learn quickly yet small enough for the experienced rider to enjoy. SUP rentals come with an adjustable paddle and leash.

Scuba Diving

We do not allow dive gear on the yachts due to the damage caused by dive tanks. However, talk with the Charter Coordinator to help organize diving trips with local dive operators. You must carry a PADI or equivalent certification to be able to dive on organized trips. Provisioning for your yacht charter on Koh Samui

Koh Samui has big modern supermarkets close by the base, so provisioning is easy and offers a pretty good selection of western delights! But that makes it so easy to go overboard, often literally, at the end of your charter because it’s also so lovely to eat ashore! It’s relatively economical to eat onshore, and with no preparation or cleaning up, you’ll have more time to enjoy your holiday.

Nonetheless, stocking your boat with food and beverage is crucial; it allows you flexibility and freedom to move around at your own pace.

How much do things cost?

Koh Samui is a bit of a foodie heaven; it offers an abundance of market and street food all the way through to five-star, fine dining. Once you head out to the other islands, there’s still a wonderful selection of resorts and restaurants, but the prices drop considerably; here’s a rough guide:

Most wine-by-the-glass is box-wine and costs 120 baht to 300 baht, depending on the style of the resort or bar you’re at. A bottle of wine costs about 800 baht in a supermarket and at least twice that in a restaurant. A small bottle of beer costs about 45 baht in a supermarket and from 70 baht up to 150 baht in a restaurant. Good quality Thai food can cost as little as 80 baht per person in a local street-side or beachside restaurant, where a meal in a flashy resort can cost anything from 1200 baht per person and more.

Tips for planning your menu

When planning your provisioning, consider that Thailand has a warm and humid climate, boat galleys have limited space, refrigerators are small, and storage lockers are few, so you need to optimize what you take and how you use it. Design a menu that shares many of the same base ingredients but delivers very different tasting meals. That way, you minimize the number of items you take on board. Keep the menu simple, so you don’t spend your holiday time in the galley trying to make magic happen. Here are a few tips:

• Don’t take too much fresh or cold food as your refrigerator space will be limited, and food left out will spoil in the tropical heat; salad doesn’t last long.
• Buy veggies that don’t require refrigeration, carrots, cucumber, potato, onion etc.
• Provision for all breakfasts and just one or two dinners aboard. Then have an array of cheese, cold cuts, nibbles & snacks along with fruit that does not require refrigeration, apples and the like.
• Often, the shops on the outer islands do not have a lot of stock.
• Get all the western delights before your charter because they are difficult to find once you leave Samui.
• Don’t buy ingredients to make Thai food; it’s much easier and more economical to go to a restaurant.

Provisioning

We have a team of trusted drivers who speak English well and know the island. If you want to provision on the way, this is by far your best option, because our drivers will stay in touch with us, they understand your objective, and know which shops to visit. If you are coming directly from the airport, you’ll need to consider the available space you have, taking into account luggage. If you are a large group, drop the Skipper and First Mate off with the bags at the meeting point, and send the crew off provisioning after that.

Important note about purchasing Alcohol

Thailand restricts the sale of alcoholic beverages; you can purchase between 11am and 2pm or after 5pm to midnight. You can usually buy it all day in the smaller local shops.

• Cif or any other cleaner
• Bleach or toilet cleaner

• Purchase carry-bags to transport your produce
• Minimize the use of cardboard boxes; they will not be permitted onboard after loading

Koh Samui has postcard sailing conditions from May through August, while the rest of Asia enjoys the wet season delivered by the southwest monsoon.

The mountainous terrain of the Malay peninsula to the west exhausts the monsoon winds of their rain and leaves Koh Samui and its surrounding islands basking in the sunshine with flat seas and a cool, steady breeze.

May through September

Weather conditions remain nicely tropical, with temperatures ranging from 30C in the daytime to 24C during the night. Wind can range from 10 to 25 knots, and although conditions remain mainly dry, afternoon squalls are common and predictable. Sailing conditions are relatively uniform throughout the season and can be more challenging than Koh Chang and Phuket.

The islands are 20nm apart, so the passage between islands can take most of the day. But the islands are big, so once you arrive, it’s easy to spend several days at just one, so there is no need to be sailing all day long every day; there’s plenty of bay hopping to do.

Overall, the Samui cruising ground is a great place to charter a yacht, with moderately challenging sailing conditions by day and beautiful tranquil anchorages by night. It is, without doubt, the best place to go sailing in Asia from May through September.
