Organised by the Business Innovation Institute of the Balearic Islands, the Palma International Boat Show draws the crowds for its location as much as the yachts. Palma de Mallorca is one of the most visited islands in Europe, prized for its delectable tapas, luxury lifestyle and blended culture. The boat show brings together boatbuilders, nautical equipment suppliers, toys and accessories manufacturers and a host of international brands from the yachting industry.
Widely considered to be the inaugural event of the Mediterranean nautical season, the Palma International Boat Show is a four-day event where motor yachts, sailing yachts, accessories suppliers and everything else in between gather. Over 600 mega yachts sized 24m+ from the international brokerage and charter market are on display in the Superyacht Village showcasing anything from the latest advancements in sail design to next-level marine electronics.
Tickets for the event can be bought online in advance at the official show website. Flexible in its arrangements, visitors can purchase day tickets or a four-day pass which offers a small discount. There is no minimum age for entry, but masks remain a requirement.
The 2023 Palma International Boat Show will take place between 27-30 April, from 10.00 until 20.00 each day. It’s held during the summertime and sailing regatta season, and there are often many siestas and celebrations that visitors can take part in that offer an authentic slice of Balearic life.
Palma, the island of Majorca’s capital city, is a major seaport forming part of the Balearic Islands archipelago. It’s famed for La Seu, a vast cathedral built on a previous mosque, which was built atop an original Christian church. Decorating Palma’s seaside promenade with a litany of superyachts, the Palma International Boat Show takes place in Marina Moll Vell, one of three superyacht marinas in the area. It’s strategically placed at the edge of Palma Old Town, virtually opposite the cathedral, and has 80 berths up to 45m in length and a draught of 5m.
Yacht owners and visitors looking to enjoy Palma’s Balearic beats can drink in the many Gothic landmarks that hark back to the 13th century, as well as a plethora of blended architecture from the city’s Roman, Byzantine and Muslim periods. These include the Almudaina, a Moorish-style Arab fortress converted to a royal residence, and west of the city, hilltop Bellver Castle is a medieval fortress with a distinctive circular shape.
Situated on Carrier de la Llotja next to the waterfront and not far from the Plaça de la Drassana, the Llotja de Palma is a 15th-century guild building recognised by its twin octagonal towers and an angel over the door. The Gothic landmark appears half-castle, half-church, but was designed by architect Guillem Sagrera as the city's exchange at the height of Mallorca’s maritime history. It was later used for storage during the War of Independence and a fine art gallery. Today, it is a cultural centre, hosting temporary exhibitions.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma, more commonly referred to as La Seu, is a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral. Built from golden sandstone it’s perched high on Palma's old city walls. The picturesque town of Santa Maria del Cami, known by the locals as just Santa Maria, sits in Majorca's central flat plain, in one of the island's most prominent wine growing regions. La Seu is the most emblematic building in Palma, and a popular meeting point.
As Palma’s main square (though rectangular in shape), the Plaça Major is a natural hub of socialising. The large, longitudinal square is built on the site of the San Felipe Nerí Convent and is surrounded by traditional yellow buildings with green shutters. It enjoys frequent outdoor craft markets, and its many shops and cafes make the ideal place to while away a few hours enjoying the local fare and quaffing chilled rose.

The Palma Superyacht Show’s organisers are pleased to confirm the event’s new 2021 dates.
The opening of the mediterranean yachting season.
Continuing a longstanding tradition of over 36 years, the Palma International Boat Show opens both its own doors and Mediterranean yachting season on April 28th, running until May 1st at its usual home, the Moll Vell.
The Show focuses mostly but not solely on sales of sailing yachts as Palma is considered the capital of sailing . It is aimed at owners in search of a new boat for the season and renowned as a magnet for sector professionals. In fact, the leading international brokers showcase a wide selection of yachts of all sizes, while the yards, which have only recently started coming, present their latest models. This heady mix has turned what was once a local pre-owned event into a world-class one.

The 2022 Palma International Boat Show looks set to celebrate a return to normality and consolidate the work done by the PIBS 2021, the first post-pandemic boat show. A year ago, that event attracted 227 exhibitors spread across an exhibition area of 80,000 square metres with 185 boats on the water. But those figures all look certain to rise this year.
The exhibitors are all waiting impatiently for the wraps to be whipped off the 2022 Palma International Boat Show, eager to present their new models and products live once again, something that has been impossible over the last couple of years because of pandemic-related restrictions. The range of products and services on offer will be extremely broad and varied indeed, spanning the spectrum from new boats to onboard machinery, refit and renovation stands, and charter and nautical services.
The Palma Superyacht Village will be playing host too to superyachts of over 24 metres available for both sale and charter. There will also be a dedicated Refit & Repair section aimed at sector professionals.
Last year’s Palma Superyacht Village delivered the following figures: • 75 international exhibitors • 80 yachts of over 24 metres • Over 800 captains and crews • 38,000 visitors.
Solaris Yachts, Advanced Yachts, Sanlorenzo and Ferretti are just some of the brands that will be showing at this year’s event. As was the case with last year’s show, tickets must be purchased online through the event’s site. They cost €11, but sector professionals can buy a professional pass that offers access to every day of the show (€38.50).
Our yachts in the area Visit One Shot at Palma: a modern, sophisticated Solaris cruiser, the perfect marriage of comfort and performance. This beauty not only benefits from Solaris Yachts’ extensive experience in building long-range yachts, but was also designed by the reputed Javier Soto Acebal. One Shot’s composite hull, ultramodern sail control system , new generation carbon mast and rigging guarantee peerless performance.

The Palma Superyacht Village will for the first time host an ‘Innovation Corner’ in collaboration with Yachting Ventures , providing a space for startups to showcase new technologies
Palma International Boat Show (PIBS) kicks off the Mediterranean yachting season in Mallorca from 27th April-1st May 2023. With more than 300 companies exhibiting at Palma’s Moll Vell marina, the 2023 edition is set to be the biggest and best yet.
For the first time ever, PIBS will host an Innovation Corner during the 4-day event to support startups in the yachting sector. As a result of this new initiative, startups and industry professionals can talk about the future of yachting and what technology can do for us.
This year Palma Superyacht Village has generously allocated a lot of space for the Innovation Corner. This includes an outdoor terrace and is sure to attract a lot of media attention. The Yachting Ventures team will help shortlist the startups and invite them, as well as organize the logistics.
Arne Ploch, Palma Superyacht Village Managing Director, commented on the partnership:
“We are thrilled to announce that the Innovation Corner, a new initiative in collaboration with Yachting Ventures and the Palma Superyacht Village, will be featured at the 2023 edition of the Palma Boat Show. As an island, we understand the tremendous contribution of the yachting industry to our economy and acknowledge the significance of remaining innovative. We are eager to meet the selected start-ups participating in the Innovation Corner and offer them the opportunity to showcase their products and services to the attendees of PIBS this year.”
Yachting Ventures is a global startup hub for the leisure marine and yachting industries, providing the network, education, and opportunities that founders need to scale and raise investment. Commenting on the partnership, Gabbi Richardson, founder of Yachting Ventures said:
“We’re delighted to offer startups the opportunity to showcase their solutions to the industry by participating in the inaugural Innovation Corner at PIBS. There’s always a real buzz at this show, and I grew up in Mallorca so the event is personally one of my favourites in the yachting calendar. It signifies the start of summer in the Mediterranean, and it is especially important because it inclusively spans all sizes of yachts and watercraft.”
Mallorca is a key yachting hub, currently hosting more than 700 nautical companies that employ over 4,000 people and generate more than 420 million euros. With the infrastructure already established, the island is a strategic place to launch a startup in the nautical sector. Recognising this, the Innovation Corner is backed by the Government of Mallorca who encourage entrepreneurs to bring new products and services to market, and clearly recognize the economic benefits that the yachting industry brings to the island.

Home / Regattas and places / Spain / Palma Vela 2022
Activity level, event language.
Start : Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain
Finish : Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain
PalmaVela is one of the best international regattas that opens the yachting season in the Mediterranean!
The international regatta PalmaVela rightfully occupies one of the first places in the yachting world and opens the season of great races in the Mediterranean. The organizer of the regatta is the Royal Palma Yacht Club (Real Club Náutico Palma), which opens its doors every year to yachtsmen on the most modern sailing boats.
The scale of the regatta and the number of participating classes of yachts are amazing. The entire sailing Beau monde comes to the picturesque bay of Palma: Wally, MAXI, TP52, SWAN, J80, the traditional IRC and ORC divisions, Dragons, and classic yachts. This is a real extravaganza of sails from the most modern racing boats to elegant 100-year-old yachts.
The PalmaVela regatta has recently attracted more and more crews. The high level of competition, famous sponsors, professional crews and modern yachts create an incredible atmosphere of this race.
The organizers of the regatta think not only about competitions but also about the interesting evening program with receptions and music.
from €2,200 / 11 days / 1 pers.
This is my first time, is this ok.
Beginners without experience can participate in the regatta, since on the yacht there is always a professional skipper with extensive experience who will teach you everything you need for your role on the boat. In addition, as a rule, there are experienced yachtsmen in the crew who will help you get settled and feel comfortable.
As a rule, the cost of participation in the regatta includes:.
— accommodation on a yacht for the duration of the regatta;
— bed linen and towels;
— organizational fee;
— skipper services;
— the cost of mooring in marinas;
— basic sailing training;
— a yacht polo or t-shirts from the organizers.
— airplane tickets and transfer to the marina;
— a visa. However, we will give you an invitation and confirmation of accommodation booking for the embassy. Visas for sporting events are easy to get;
— personal expenses.
Events schedule.
The regatta consists of 3 intense days of short distance races and an active evening program.
9:00-10:00 — Competitors registration Sailing Instruction delivery
12:00 Race/s
There will be a trophy for the winner in each of the participating classes. Other trophies may be awarded and will be published on the Official Notice Board.
The route of the PalmaVela regatta is very interesting. It includes a variety of short-distance races (buoys) in the Gulf of Palma, which require active and coordinated work of the entire crew, and a route race of 25 miles. You won’t have time to relax! The picturesque bay of Palma de Mallorca, the Cathedral - the visiting card of the island, Bellver Castle, the unique atmosphere of the city and the wonderful warm weather also add to great impressions from the regatta.
Can i participate in a regatta if i don’t have yachting experience.
Yes, of course. There will be an experienced skipper and team members on the yacht. They will give you a role and teach you everything you need to know to be a useful team member and feel comfortable.
Yes, all team members will definitely try themselves in different roles to better understand each other. Standing at the helm is an integral part of training for beginners as well as setting sails, and helping the team during moorings.
As a rule, participants in the regatta live on the yacht. The boat has everything you need for a comfortable stay: nice beds, a kitchen, a shower with toilet. If you do not want to live on a yacht, then you can arrange to stay at the hotel onshore.
The crew decides altogether what kind of food they prefer to eat and makes necessary purchases. Simple dishes can be cooked, usually taking turns. Some regattas offer daily meals and intensive evening program for all crews.
We can make an invitation for a visa, but you need to apply for a visa by yourself.
Most people tolerate some seasickness easily. If you feel that you are starting to feel sick, it is best to get at the steering wheel or tune the sails. Get yourself busy, show your body that you don’t have time to get sick, you have to fight for victory in the race. There are also many quite effective medicines from sickness. If you start taking them in advance, then the probability of seasickness is almost zero.
Before each trip, we organize an online meeting where participants get to know each other and the captain. The captain will answer all your questions. The crew will have a group chat so you can get to know each other before the start of the regatta. Then you will meet in the marina.
The main rule is to dress comfortably and according to the weather. Clothing: • windbreaker and pants or shorts; • shirt/jacket with UV protection (thermal underwear and fleece); • adjustable hat/cap; • gloves. We recommend to purchase a long-sleeved jacket with UV protection in order to protect yourself from the sun and strong wind. Yachting shoes should be: • light, with non-slip white outsole; • with the fixed heel; • with a tightly closed nose. During the sailing without shoes, you can fall or injure your fingers and feet on the deck. There are many protruding parts on the boat that are easy to catch. Unfortunately, even experienced sailors are not protected from unpleasant injuries when they ignore this simple rule.

The innovation corner will provide a space for startups to showcase new technologies ….
Taking place in Mallorca from 27th April-1st May 2023, the Palma International Boat Show (PIBS) is the inaugural event of the Mediterranean yachting season. The 2023 edition of the show is set to host more than 300 companies at Palma’s Moll Vell Marina.
PIBS will for the first time ever host an ‘Innovation Corner’ for the duration of the 4-day event. This new initiative is meant to promote a dialogue between startups and wider industry professionals. Palma Superyacht Village has allocated a large space for the Innovation Corner, which will be equipped with an outdoor terrace. Yachting Ventures will support the efforts, helping to shortlist and invite the startups chosen to participate and organise the logistics on the ground.
Arne Ploch, Palma Superyacht Village Managing Director, commented on the partnership, “We are thrilled to announce that the Innovation Corner, a new initiative in collaboration with Yachting Ventures and the Palma Superyacht Village, will be featured at the 2023 edition of the Palma Boat Show. The nearly 32-meter-long "Nixtun" will be docked at Palma Superyacht Village from April 27 to 30. The brand-new yacht is for sale.
From April 27 to 30, the Palma International Boat Show in combination with the Palma Superyacht Village (formerly Palma Superyacht Show) marks the - albeit unofficial - opening of the yachting season on the Balearic Islands. Below the cathedral of Mallorca's capital, over 200 companies will be exhibiting boats and yachts between five and 50 meters in length, and thousands of visitors are expected.
Drettmann Yachts will also be there with a highly interesting exhibit. At berth 430, the Bremen yacht experts will present the brand-new Majesty 100 "Nixtun", which was only delivered this year. The yacht is for sale at the show for 7.9 million euros.
Together with the German owners, Claudia Drettmann designed the interior of the yacht, which is precisely tailored to the contemporary taste of the clients. Limed oak and walnut were combined with carpets and ceilings in warm tones, making the rooms bright, inviting and cozy at the same time. The cabins of the extremely modern designed yacht display a similar look to give the interior a unified style.
The owner couple occupies their suite, including the office, on the main deck, while the guests sleep in four large and almost identically designed cabins on the lower deck. This layout also makes "Nixtun" extremely compatible for possible chartering.
With two MAN engines, each producing 1,900 hp, the yacht, which is built of GRP, reaches a maximum speed of 20 knots and is thus fast on transfers; the cruising speed is 16 knots. At a reduced speed of twelve knots, she has a respectable range of 1,500 nautical miles, which is more than sufficient for Mediterranean transfers. Her fuel tanks hold a total of 15,700 liters of diesel. "Nixtun," by the way, is the first Majesty 100 with MAN 1900 engines, soot particle filters and AdBlue injection. A draft of just 1.67 meters allows the vessel to sail in shallow waters; zero-speed stabilizers provide additional comfort.
Drettmann Yachts has been working closely for several years with the Gulf Craft shipyard in the United Arab Emirates, which manufactures the Majesty megayachts, among others. The nearly 32-meter Majesty 100 in particular enjoys great popularity; after all, the yacht is ideally suited for Mediterranean cruising and is also compatible with smaller marinas. In addition, it impresses with an excellent price-performance ratio; Drettmann Yachts has already been able to sell several units of the GRP format, which has a speed of over 20 knots.
Albert Drettmann comments on the upcoming appearance at Palma Superyacht Village as follows: "With 'Nixtun' we are certainly exhibiting one of the most interesting yachts of the show. Her quality, her design, her size and her very young year of construction are highly interesting for owners who still want to acquire a high-quality yacht in time for the summer season."
Founded in Germany in 1970, Drettmann is a family-owned company focused on building and selling luxury yachts. A total of 1500 newbuilding’s with lengths up to 55 meters have been built under the direction of Drettmann International; around 10,000 boats and yachts have been sold in the company's 49-year history. With Bandido Yachts, Drettmann operates its own brand for custom yachts. www.drettmann.com

The Mediterranean season is officially underway with the season-opening Palma International Boat Show (PIBS) all wrapped up in Mallorca.
Set in Marina Moll Vell against the backdrop of the Santa Maria cathedral, the exhibition took over the waterfront for four days on the last weekend of April, welcoming more than 600 boats of all sizes, 271 exhibitors and 32,000 visitors to the city.
Organised by IDI and BYBA, The Palma International Boat Show hosted the Palma Superyacht Village as part of its showcase for the second year running, following a successful merger between the Palma International Boat Show and Palma Superyacht Show. The result was a new super event with a fairground of more than 81,000 square metres, establishing the show as a vital event in the industry calendar, bringing together brokers, buyers, shipyards and suppliers from the superyacht segment and beyond.
Arne Ploch, managing director of the Palma Superyacht Village, said that the show presented a golden opportunity for prospective owners. ''Having PIBS in the springtime is a great opportunity for buyers, they can potentially sign a contract right after the show in May and a month later be out on the water fully enjoying the Mediterranean season aboard their new vessel, that's a unique and very alluring prospect."
The city itself, with its numerous regattas, is considered one of the sailing capitals of the world and this is reflected in the show’s in-water display, with a fleet of pedigree performance vessels, classic schooners and world cruisers for sale and charter. “The show remains one of the best opportunities in the spring season to display yachts for sale and offers an excellent window for the sailing yacht market,” says sales broker Mael Fiolet of Camper & Nicholsons. “This event is the only real yacht show that we have in the Mediterranean in the spring and offers clients the opportunity to come to this vibrant island for a few days where they can study their next purchase for the season but also enjoy some quality time in the island.”
But that’s not to say that there isn’t plenty to appeal to power purists too. The 49.9-metre Mangusta 165 AAA was the largest vessel on display this year, while the newly listed NQEA explorer Flying Manta and its Airbus H130 helicopter was the star of the show.
According to the organisers, 96 per cent of participants have expressed interest in exhibiting next year and more than 20 per cent ask for more space, reconfirming the show as a staple event on the yachting calendar. Elsewhere, brokers acknowledge greater footfall, but also more qualified visitors in the 39th edition of the show.
New for this year as part of the Palma Superyacht Village was the Innovation Corner, organised by Yachting Ventures with support from BYBA. Twelve yachting startups showcased their new products and services with many specialising in digitalisation tools such as Floatist, Crewdentials, LJ eLogbooks, Mariners Log, Wolfgang Pro, SEAZONE. Others focused on promoting green technologies including HY-Plug, RAD Propulsion, EPHYRA, Swiss Ocean Tech and BatteryCheck. Also within the dock-side exhibition was a separate area dedicated to refit and repair, which celebrated the Balearic Islands as a key Mediterranean refit hub.
On the penultimate day of the show, BOAT International’ s sister magazine Dockwalk hosted a Happy Hour at the Tast Out Bar on-site, offering captains and crew drinks and canapés, while some attending yachts such as M/Y Moonraker and S/Y Miss Silver welcomed guests aboard for sundowners of their own that continued long into the evening.
The show concluded with a ceremonial blast of the horns that could be heard all along the palm-lined Paseo Maritimo, and the floating bridge was opened with boats leaving to begin their summer seasons. Next year the show is expected to be bigger than ever as the show celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Gary King is one of the most prominent cast members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht , but last season's scandal might have put the hit Bravo spin-off in danger. Captain Glenn Shephard leads the crew aboard the Parsifal III, and many popular faces such as Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher, and Colin Macrae have appeared in the series. However, Gary's love triangle with Daisy and Colin is the least of his worries, given the handling of his sexual misconduct scandal.
The sexual misconduct accusations against Gary stem from an incident reported by Samantha Suarez, a makeup artist who worked on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4. According to Samantha, the incident occurred in the summer of 2022 during filming. Allegedly, Samantha escorted a heavily intoxicated Gary back to his hotel room following a confessional interview when he began behaving erratically. Samantha claimed that Gary prevented her from leaving, grabbing her from behind, which left her feeling threatened. Production should be nervous ahead of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Their statement wasn't enough.
Producers should have spoken out after Gary's scandal with Samantha , but they didn't, adding to the controversy. While it's true that Bravo and the production team behind Below Deck issued a statement addressing the allegations , claiming that they take workplace safety seriously and that the concerns raised by Samantha were investigated, it was too little, too late.
The network failed to hold Gary accountable, especially since he was allegedly allowed to return for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, which has yet to air. The backlash against Gary has likely contributed to the slow rollout of the season , adding to the prospect of cancelation. A halfhearted statement from Bravo simply wasn't enough.
Due to of production's lack of action, the controversy surrounding Gary has put Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 in danger. Although the season was filmed, its release has been delayed, and there is speculation that it may be heavily edited to minimize Gary's presence. It's possible the entire season could get scrapped if Gary can't be edited out effectively.
They swept it under the rug.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht producers never really addressed the Gary scandal, hoping that sweeping the accusations under the rug would make the problem go away. However, they didn't do enough damage control. Bravo producers disinvited Gary from BravoCon, adding to the probability of editing him out of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 or scrapping the season entirely.
The best thing Bravo can do now is fire Gary from the Below Deck franchise and hope to save Below Deck Sailing Yacht without him.
Gary’s future within the Below Deck franchise appears unlikely. The backlash against him has been intense, and while he has had some support from fellow cast member Daisy, it seems unlikely that he will be able to recover his reputation. His removal from BravoCon is proof that the network is distancing itself from him, but it might not be enough to save the spin-off.
This scandal has highlighted the responsibility of reality TV productions in handling misconduct. The show's production team intervened during Below Deck Down Under season 2 when a similar situation occurred, resulting in the firing of Bosun Luke Jones. Netflix's Love Is Blind 's production team has also faced accusations about the mishandling of sexual harassment, including Renee Poche's disastrous engagement to Carter Wall and Tran Dang's lawsuit.
Season 5 needs to be scrapped.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht needs a revamp if the network doesn't want the show to get canceled. If it's true that the season was filmed, production would be better off scrapping the season and starting new without Gary. While that's undoubtedly a huge loss for the network, Gary shouldn't be a featured cast member anymore . His sexual misconduct was inexcusable, and he's had issues in the past with professionalism, harassment, and alcohol abuse. Gary has been given too many chances.
If the network is unwilling to scrap Below Deck Sailing Yach t season 5 and start over, it might be time to scrap the spin-off. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are already incredibly successful, and a popular cast member like Daisy could find a home in one of the other franchises. If Bravo had come out ahead of Gary's scandal, production could have saved the Parsifal III and Captain Glenn. However, they didn't do enough to mitigate it, leading to a possible cancellation. Gary is certainly to blame.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht is available to stream on Peacock.

From project to contributor: what could thunder’s ousmane dieng provide this season.

On the night of the 2022 NBA Draft, Thunder GM Sam Presti traded three first-round picks to the New York Knicks in order to acquire the rights to the No. 11 overall slot and select Ousmane Dieng. A French prospect with tremendous upside, the then 19-year-old was a clear project pick who would need time to develop into a contributor at the NBA level. The Thunder had been scouting Dieng since he was 16 years old, watching him grow from a 6-foot-3 guard to a 6-foot-10 forward while keeping his perimeter skills.
Now having two seasons of experience under his belt, Dieng is still an unfinished product. In fact, he’s played just 934 total regular season minutes over 72 games in his career. Oklahoma City has quickly pivoted from a bottom-tier team to a contender in the short time he’s been with the franchise, which has somewhat left him behind when it comes to being part of the regular rotation.
While Dieng wasn’t much of a factor last season, he will have a chance to emerge as a helpful piece in year three during the 2024-25 campaign. Coming off of G League Finals MVP honors, the 21-year-old will look to carry that momentum into this season and find niche ways to impact winning and earn minutes at the NBA level.
Given his age and inexperience, Dieng is nowhere near the player he could be quite yet. But what could he bring to the Thunder immediately this season as he enters his third NBA stint?
Lineup Versatility
At 6-foot-10 with perimeter skills, Dieng can be plugged into many different positions and roles within a lineup. He has the size to play in the frontcourt as a forward, but also the ball skills to play as a jumbo guard or wing.
Today’s nyt mini crossword clues and answers for thursday, august 22, bayesian yacht: bodies of entrepreneur michael lynch and morgan stanley chief recovered in italy.
As such, Dieng is a valuable piece of the puzzle for matching up against opposing lineups. Depending on the night, Thunder coach Mark Daigneault could opt to run unorthodox, yet effective lineups with the versatility the third-year player provides.
Size and Spacing
In the modern NBA, perimeter shooting is everything. Not only are teams now reliant on generating points from the 3-point line, but to create space for driving lanes — which is especially important in OKC with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander — having a lineup full of shooters is key.
Despite being a 28% shooter from deep at the NBA level on his career, Dieng has the chance to be better than the numbers would suggest. His attempts at that level have been minimal (168 total) and generally out of the flow of the game — often in the final minutes of contests that have already been decided. The mechanics of his jumper are smooth, and with a little bit of confidence next season, it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s able to become a more reliable jumbo floor spacer in a limited role.
Tertiary Passing
Again, Dieng hasn’t been able to showcase his full skillset at the NBA level given the amount of win-now talent that takes the floor on a nightly basis. But if he were to earn more minutes in the upcoming season, his passing could be a big reason why. The 21-year-old won’t ever be a primary ball handler at this level, but he does have the vision and connective passing ability to really enhance an offense.
At the G League level last season, Dieng averaged 5.4 assists per game and was a primary facilitator for the Blue. He was a legitimate triple-double threat with the production he was able to provide in a higher usage role. He won’t have that same opportunity in the NBA this season, but even in limited action could prove to be a valuable tertiary and connective passer.
The 2024-25 campaign is a significant one for Ousmane Dieng. Oklahoma City is quickly emerging as a long-term title contender, so his ability to contribute now — even in small ways — is becoming increasingly important. The former Thunder lottery pick still has time to develop his game, but there’s more urgency entering year three than ever before.

Challenges confronted the crew of the Blitzen from day one in their inaugural year competing in the Newport Harbor Yacht Club’s racing season. Their halyard broke during the opening day race in May, sending the wind-catching kite propelling their boat from Long Beach Harbor to Newport Pier tumbling into the ocean.
“There was no hesitation between this team,” Blitzen’s owner Brett Scott said. “Everyone grabbed the kite and in 20 seconds it was up and flying again.”
She has been sailing since she was 5. But her first year at the head of a team has taught her a lot about managing schedules, the personalities aboard the boat and finances, she said.
“Whenever something breaks it adds up, so I’m definitely not doing this for the money,” Scott said with a laugh. “Don’t take investment advice from me. But we’ve really bonded as a team, and I think that’s our greatest achievement.”
There were plenty of smirks, side-eye and playful jabs as she and the crew rigged the Blitzen Friday in preparation of Long Point Race week. The three-day race is the last competitive event of the yacht club’s season.
The first leg starts in Newport Harbor and ends at Catalina Island. Boats then sail to the opposite end of the island and back on day two before returning to Newport Harbor on day three.
Blitzen’s Baddies, as the crew refers to themselves on Instagram, are all experienced sailors and were optimistic about finishing strong in their first season as a team. They’ve had some success this summer, including third-, second- and first-place finishes in their class during the three days of Long Beach Racing Week in June.
“We keep getting better,” Scott said.
Crew member Tyler Macdonald said the hardest part about the season has been “dealing with Adam and Spencer,” drawing laughs from Adam Bradley, Spencer Buchanan and the rest of the team aboard the Blitzen on Friday. Teammate Matt Whitfield said the real challenge of each race lies in “the hangover afterwards.” Coincidentally, he said his favorite activity while sailing is when they crack open some beer mid-journey.
There’s no shortage of banter aboard the Blitzen. And the irreverent sense of humor of her crew is half the reason Scoot chose to have them aboard.
She grew up in Reno and traveled to Newport Beach every summer as a child to sail with her family. She fell in love with both the ocean and the tavern-style warmth of the community that welcomed her into the sport.
Her father, Bart Scott, said he wasn’t surprised to see her move to Newport Beach. He’s proud to see her fulfill her lifelong dream of owning a boat and fielding a racing team. And although she has a sense of humor, she runs a tight ship and commands the respect of her crew.
“Once we all come together on what a problem is there’s not a lot of back and forth or arguing,” Scott said. “They all just recognize what we each need to do and get it done.”
After Long Point, Blitzen’s Baddies plan on participating in small casual races while preparing for next season. They hope to compete in the Transpacific Yacht Race from San Pedro to Honolulu next July.
