CAROLINA SÄVE AND BRYAN NATALE
AUGUST 23, 2014 IN NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND
While studying at his law school’s library, Bryan Natale pointed out a beautiful blonde to his friend, but made no move to meet her. A few days later, the friend called saying that the woman was at the first-year student mixer and Bryan should get down there and introduce himself—which is exactly what he did.
“I’m from Sweden,” says Carolina Säve, “and I was very impressed when Bryan mentioned he had studied in my country.” So much so, that she boldly asked him for his phone number. The couple bonded over their love of food and travel, with Bryan endearing himself through small, thoughtful gestures. “A month into being with him, I knew he was right for me,” says Carolina. It was a lock when Carolina’s mom, critical of past boyfriends, gave Bryan her seal of approval.
“…HOW CAROLINA AND I WENT DOWN MANY PATHS TO EVENTUALLY FIND EACH OTHER MADE ME REALIZE HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE.”
On a trip to Nantucket, Bryan seemed unusually nervous while relaxing on the beach. He began telling Carolina about how much he loved her, and when she opened her eyes, he was on one knee with the ring extended. She said, “Yes,” and moments later, a seal waddled out of the surf and waved at the couple. “People joke that Bryan paid the seal to show up, and I tell them that it ‘sealed the deal’ for me,”kids Carolina.
Because sailing was an integral part of Carolina’s childhood, the historic New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island, felt “just right” to the bride. The ceremony was held on the oceanside lawn overlooking all of Newport. In a move that was kept secret from everyone, including Bryan, the bride and her father arrived by boat. Their walk to the altar was accompanied by a string quartet.
Rites were recited in English and Swedish so international guests, including Carolina’s grandmother, could follow along. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the flower girls serenaded the couple with a Swedish “summer” song.
The reception employed many Swedish traditions, starting with white tie and tails for the wedding party. Seating, at long tables stemming from the head table, was arranged to ensure that people meet each other. “You mix everyone up,” says Carolina. “You don’t get to sit with your spouse or college buddies.”
Carolina and Bryan danced a traditional waltz to “Edelweiss” for their first dance, followed by a three-hour, four-course dinner. The meal was accompanied by a multitude of speeches managed by two toastmasters. “Sitting back and absorbing the stories about how Carolina and I went down many paths to eventually find each other made me realize how fortunate we are,” says Bryan. Dancing began after dinner and continued until the 11 p.m. curfew. Then, the newlyweds walked a sparkler-lined aisle to a boat that ferried them to the continuing party at Newport’s Forty 1° North.
The honeymoon began with an exciting helicopter ride over sparkling blue waters to Azura Benguerra Island in Mozambique, where the couple recovered from their whirlwind of entertaining. After resting up, Carolina and Bryan flew to South Africa and checked off a bucket list item with two safaris filled with “amazing” wild animal sightings.
After the honeymoon, Bryan and Carolina returned to their home in Boston where they both practice law.

Mikaya and josh | new york yacht club newport wedding.
Mikayla and Josh’s romantic New York Yacht Club Wedding in Newport is one of the most memorable of our season! Every inch of this wedding was absolutely stunning. From the bridal gown, to the reception tent, down to the smallest details of hand painted shell escort cards. Mikayla and Josh had a perfect summer day for their Newport Wedding. Overlooking Newport harbor from the New York Yacht Club, these two exchanged their own written vows in front of their family and friends.
The perfect summer, garden wedding. Mikayla and Josh let the beautiful surroundings of the New York Yacht Club be their guide. Mikayla’s bridesmaids wore floor length gowns in shades of muted lavender. Josh and his guys were all in formal black tuxedos. The reception tent was set to perfection with natural farm tables and warm ivory linens. Each table was bursting with gorgeous floral arrangements and lush greenery runners.
How They Met
The stars aligned the day Mikayla and Josh met, read more about the day they first laid eyes on each from Mikayla… Josh had just opened his first restaurant, Lulu’s Allston , and I instantly was smitten for the cute bartender. Several months, and countless dinner’s at Lulu’s, (that I dragged my friends to so I could see my crush) and he finally asked me out for our first date. He brought me to a fancy restaurant in Cambridge and the rest is history!!

Newport Rhode Island Wedding | New York Yacht Club
August 2, 2018.
Abby and Ryan started their Newport Rhode Island wedding day off at their venue New York Yacht Club. Abby got ready with all her girls around her, enjoying mimosa after mimosa and little snacks throughout the morning. We showed up early to look around the property and how amazing it was! The yacht club had an ivy covered building that looked like it came straight out of Europe. The gardens mirrored that old world look with the sweetest master gardener who took us on a tour of their greenhouses.
We then drove out about an hour away to Ryan’s hometown to watch A&R get married in a Maronite Catholic church. The priest explained a little bit behind the Maronite branch of the Catholic church and how they not only practice the western tradition of exchanging rings but also practice the eastern tradition of crowning. It was so beautiful and now I have on my bucket list to photograph another crowning ceremony in the East!
We all made our way back to Newport for the reception that was ocean front with a beautiful sailcloth tent hung above us. Delicate details were made by the awesome team at Exquisite Events and lovely florals throughout the day were by Stoneblossom. Check out all of A&R’s vendors below.
Also, Abby and her veil were show stoppers! So lovely!

Fueled by equal parts iced green tea and passion, I spend my days capturing the kinds of images that make you stop, smile and ask time to please slow down. Your story, your love, is beautiful and I can't wait to capture it in images you will treasure for years to come.

MEET Caroline
Meagan & Chris’s classic, elegant Newport, RI wedding took place at the impressive New York Yacht Club . After some fears about rain earlier in the week, they celebrated on the most beautiful mid October day: perfectly overcast for most of the day with the sun even popping out in the evening in time for the ceremony and cocktail hour. I couldn’t have crafted a more perfect day for M&C myself. Meagan planned every detail of the day so beautifully: from the mismatched bridesmaid dresses to the reception table cloths and decor. My favorite parts of the day were when Meagan and Chris took a cruise around Newport harbor in Meagan’s father’s boat, “Jubilee”, and when Meagan and her father made their long, dramatic walk from the boat all the way down the aisle closer to the Club.
And of course, I can’t forget their first dance! I have NEVER seen anyone dance like that before in my life, I wish I had a video so I could show you but you’ll just have to trust me – these two can dance! I loved being a part of Meagan & Chris’s day and I am SO happy for them that they got the beautiful wedding day surrounded by friends and family that they had dreamed of for so long!

Hello darlings! After few days away from town and under the weather, we’re beyond happy to be back in action! To send you off on your weekend, we’re featuring an absolute stunner of wedding sent over to us by the LOVELY ladies of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon .
To go along with today’s post, we have a fun interview with the bride, Caroline! Her marriage to her husband Jason Klein was shot at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island by Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography . Before we go any further however, I’m sure you’re dying to know about the dress. It’s by Anna Maeir Ulla-Maija . Stop it right now–someone get me to Gabriella New York so I can try it on immediately.
How Did You Meet Your Spouse: On a blind date. We were set up by a mutual friend.
Your Engagement Story: Armed with a special bottle of champagne (purchased on a trip to Napa the year before), a custom LL Bean tote with my new initials (I dropped several not so sublte hints that I needed a new weekend back, but not till I had a new name!), and a beautiful ring that Jason designed himself, Jason proposed at my father’s house in Guilford, CT. We celebrated at our favorite restaurant in town, The Place (an outdoor restaurant where they roast everything over a large fire pit), for lobster, steamers, and their clam special!
What was the inspiration for your wedding concept? We didn’t have a decorating “theme”, but I guess food ended up being the running theme for the weekend (and our lives). Other than wanting the wedding to be simple, beautiful, and fun, we wanted it to be delicious and for everyone to experience some of our favorite foods!
How did you incorporate your love for food into your wedding?
Friday night rehearsal dinner: A BBQ! We served our favorite cocktail to start, Dark n’ Stormy’s and then served burgers and mini pulled pork sliders. For dessert – homemade ice cream sandwiches with rainbow sprinkles! When everyone checked in at their hotel we gave them a bag of our favorite donuts – Apple Cider donuts from Bishops Orchard in Guilford, CT (where my dad has a house). We transferred the donuts to a plain white bag and had a custom sticker designed on Etsy to welcome everyone and let them know these are our favorite donuts, etc.
Wedding dinner: Even though this was a sit down dinner at the New York Yacht Club, we didn’t want the meal to feel stuffy. The chef at the club was wonderful and helped us create a family style menu that reflected some of our most favorite dishes – fried chicken and macaroni n’ cheese! It was the first time they had served these dishes and they were a huge success! For dessert we had simple sheet cakes – red velvet and chocolate.
Favors: As a favor at the end of the evening we handed out bottles of Cholula hot sauce. Cholula is our favorite hotsauce, so much so that we named our little Chihuahua after it (we call her Lula for short). We had another poster made on Etsy to stand on the table, it read: “Hot Sauce So Good We Named Our Dog After It. Please Take One at Your Own Risk!”.
Place cards: On all of our vacations, Jason likes to take photos of EVERY meal and dish we eat at memorable restaurants. This resulted in hundreds of food images taking up space on our computers. We decided to use these as place cards at the wedding. We had tables named after various places we’ve visited (Tokyo, Kyoto, Patagonia, Napa Valley, Atlanta, etc) and at each person’s place setting they had an image of a meal we’d eaten affixed to a beautiful card with their name on it. We then wrote the name of the meal and restaurant on the back of each card. So for Tokyo there were 10 beautiful pictures of sushi, tempura, etc waiting for people when they sat down! Everyone knows that Jason is very passionate about food so it was a great conversation starter!
Items In Your Purse on Your Wedding Day: My grandmother’s lace handkerchief and lipstick!
Your Favorite Wedding Day Memory: After all the stressful big moments were over (like the first dance, speeches, etc) and everything had gone off without a hitch (and truly exceeded my expectations), Jason and I took a moment to just step back, take a deep breath, and appreciate how truly amazing the night was. People were having a fantastic time dancing – my uncle even danced on a chair! To see everyone having so much fun was the cherry on top of this wonderful day and such a relief after months and months of planning. It was an amazing party and that is just what we wanted.
Your Honeymoon Destination: We took our honeymoon BEFORE the wedding and spend a month travelling around Argentina and Chile! We went as far north as the Atacama desert (the driest place on earth!) and as far south as Patagonia and stayed in the Torres del Paine National Park.
Best Advice for Brides-To-Be: I know everyone says it, but really try to slow down, look around, and appreciate every second of the weekend. It truly goes by so fast.
Tell us about your “Bridal Look”…
Wedding Gown Designer: Anna Maeir Ulla-Maija via Gabriella New York Bridal Salon // Veil: Sara Gabriel via Gabriella New York Bridal Salon // Jewelry: Fresh water pearl (dangly) earrings from my great grandmother on my father’s side. Worn by my grandmother, mother, and stepmother at their weddings. // Shoes: J. Crew silk, peep toe pumps in Mauve. // Bridesmaids’ Dress: J. Crew Bridesmaids dresses in “Fawn” Silk Taffetta. Each bridesmaid (3) wore a J.Crew cashmere sweater over the dress in different colors – pale pink, bright pink, and coral. Their flowers were a fantastic complement to these sweater colors.
Vendors that helped make this wedding gorgeous!
Wedding Photography: Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography . She is a very dear friend that I have known since high school! // Cinematography: Our amazing friends the Needlegardens (Matt Bloomgarden and Jenn Needleman have a company – Needlegarden Projects ) shot all of our wedding weekend footage on several flip cams….they even created a “Chuppah Cam” to get footage of us from the Chuppah. We are hiring a friend of theirs to create a short video . // Lodging: Family and wedding party stayed at the New York Yacht Club with us. We also had room blocks at the Newport Marriott, The Viking Hotel, and The Mill Street Inn . // Wedding Ceremony and Reception Location: New York Yacht Club – Harbour Court. Newport, RI // Floral Design: Sayles Livingston Flowers // Cake Design: It’s My Party Bakeshoppe // Wedding Stationary: Spark! Purchased at the Urbanic Boutique in Abbott Kinney, CA. // Hair and Makeup: The Apothecary, Newport // Band or DJ: The Sultans of Swing from Martha’s Vineyard – they rocked!!!

When Caroline and Stuart contacted me to shoot their New York Yacht Club wedding in Newport, Rhode Island, I was happy to learn that we had a few things in common. They are competitive sailors in the J/105 fleet in The Bay Area living right near our San Francisco, California studio and I, as a self described boat geek (I hold a 100 ton Captain’s license and went to wooden boatbuilding school in Newport), always love photographing at Harbor Court any chance we get. I knew pretty quickly that I would thoroughly enjoy them and their wedding celebration at The NYYC!
What I didn’t know then, was that Stuart was an Aussie who had also been a member of The Royal Perth Yacht Club! To those that haven’t been involved with yacht racing, that may mean nothing… but it’s the equivalent of a New York Yankee getting married in Fenway Park. You see, the New York Yacht Club dominated the America’s Cup racing scene for 132 years, until 1983, when in Newport, Rhode Island… Australia II sailed into town and stole the Cup from under our nose. It’s one of the great stories of sport ( read more about The America’s Cup here ), & a moment in history that I remember like it was yesterday.
Stuart and Caroline’s wedding was everything we could hope for: filled with thoughtful details, beautiful moments and most of all, two people who truly love and enjoy one another. The one exception was that once again, the weather gods decided to test us ( see the NYYC Blizzard Wedding here ), but like all great sailors, the wedding party was up to the challenge.
Caroline walking down the aisle with her dad (wearing her mom’s 1968 wedding veil).
Stuart sees Caroline for the first time in her wedding dress.
The ceremony was held at The Emmanuel Church, a beautiful and historic building in Newport.
The details in the church were everywhere and hard to ignore!
Caroline puts Stuart’s wedding band on.
Returning down the aisle as husband and wife.
They were so excited right after their wedding!
Stuart & Caroline have a moment on the way to the reception.
A shot overlooking Newport Harbor illuminated by headlights.
Entering the reception… so happy and beautiful!
Caroline & Stuart’s first dance as husband and wife.
In the mirror, you can see Caroline’s dad leading a toast to the two of them.
Stuart’s toast came with a bit of a surprise… he confessed that he had walked down the aisle carrying the boxing Kangaroo flag… a replica of the one flown by Australia II when they took the America’s Cup in 1983!
Their beautiful rings… on Jack, the boxing kangaroo.
Their reception was beautiful… lots of dancing.
When the band played a song by Michael Jackson, this woman took advantage of the gentlemen’s white gloved formal dress wear , and did her own impersonation! Nice work!
Leaving the NYYC illuminated by sparklers & surrounded by friends. An end to an amazing evening.
A touching moment: Caroline’s dad makes eye contact with her and waves goodbye as they drive away.
Before heading into Newport for the after party, Caroline’s sister and boyfriend create slow shutter speed art with their sparklers.

“David and Eugene are both fantastic sailors in their own right, Eugene was a two-time All-American at the Naval Academy, he’s one of the nation’s top Sunfish sailors, and we race Vipers together a lot,” says Fanberg (at left). “Being in Newport this time of year is phenomenal given it’s so hot down south, so that’s a really good reason for our team to compete in the Resolute Cup! We’re really looking forward to fantastic competition; a lot of old friends from college will be sailing the event so it will be like a reunion of sorts—it brings back memories of racing in college sailing these type of short races.” Racing for the Resolute Cup will start on Wednesday, September 11. On Saturday, September 14, the top half of the fleet will be conclude the regatta with three double-point races. Racing will take place on Narragansett Bay between Rose and Goat islands starting at 10:30 am each morning and running through the afternoon, weather permitting. —Text by Michelle Slade; photos by ROLEX / Daniel Forster (2), Jeff Sackett and Zak Fanberg
