Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

How to charter a luxury yacht for multi-days or a “live aboard”.

Our Cabo Yacht Life Live Aboard yacht charters guide below outlines the process of chartering a luxury yacht and details the costs involved. Yachts can be booked for several days and nights with 5-star service standards. It should cover everything you need to know about luxury yacht charter. How Do I Charter a Live Aboard Yacht?

There are a few key steps you need to follow when thinking about booking luxury Live Aboard yacht charters:

• Think about where you want to go around Los Cabos, La Paz, or Baja California Sur.
• Narrow down your requirements. What is your budget? How many people do you want to invite? Do you want adventure, romance or both?
• Get an idea of the type of yachts you like.
• Let the VIP booking expert find you the most suitable yachts, and pick your favorite.
• Start planning: the booking professional will arrange your itinerary and any other details.

How Much Does It Cost for Live Aboard Yacht Charters?

You’ll usually see two rates for charter yachts: the high season and low season rate. But that’s not all that you need to budget for. You need to factor in:

• The running costs of the charter, which usually ends up being 25-30% of the charter depending on your group and itinerary.
• It’s called the Advanced Provisioning Allowance.
• IVA or local cruising taxes, that can vary from 0% to 22%.
• Delivery costs and/or redelivery cost, if you want to charter the vessel away from her home port area of Cabo San Lucas or far from current bookings in place. This doesn’t always apply, so check with our VIP Live Aboard professional at [email protected] .
• A security deposit. This is mainly requested if an event is part of Live Aboard yacht charters standard. However, depending on the make-up of the group, we will require this on the contract due to high demand.
• A crew tip is offered at your discretion but in planning the overall cost, this is something to consider. We explain tips in more detail below.

What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance?

Advanced provisioning allowance (APA) is the extra fee that you pay in advance to cover the cost of provisions for Live Aboard yacht charters. It helps to think of the advanced provisioning allowance as like opening a petty cash account for your captain and chef, because it’s the simplest way of tracking charter expenses while you’re on board.

The APA allows the Captain and Crew to fully prepare and customize the experience to exactly how you want to live on board. A “preference sheet” will be prepared in detail between you and your bookings professional and sent to the Captain in good time for him to prepare the yacht for your arrival.

The captain will oversee all the purchases made before and during your charter. He will be responsible for ensuring the crew stay within budget and will provide receipts and expense accounts upon request. All expenses will be charged at cost and at the end of your charter you’ll receive an itemized breakdown of all expenditures.

How should I interact with the crew?

The crew are valued employees, ensuring Live Aboard yacht charters are run safely, operates smoothly and that service levels are optimized for you and your guests.

Can I invite friends on the yacht?

You’re encouraged to entertain guests during your charter, but please let the bookings expert know if you’re thinking about inviting friends on board. If you give the crew plenty of time to plan, you’ll have the very best experience.

Can I hold a party on board?

Some of our Live Aboard yacht charters are able to hold events on board, but they will need to adhere to regulations as to how many guests can be there at any one time. The yacht may request a security deposit, in case of any damage caused during the charter.

The number of guests for events varies with the size of yacht, flag registry rules, insurance levels and our company’s comfort level.

Can I bring staff in addition to my guests to stay on board?

Any essential staff such as nannies or physicians may be accommodated if the yacht has suitable cabins available for them. This is requested on a case-by-case basis. The yacht crew will ensure that the staff are given any necessary safety training and advise them on how service works on the yacht.

Can I bring my pet?

Our Live Aboard yacht charters are not set up to accommodate pets on any charters.

What happens while the crew clean?

The crew are very skilled at making sure everything is shipshape. However, they always appreciate it when guests take their morning coffee on the sundeck, for example, as it gives them a chance to make sure your stateroom is made up and ready.

What happens if I have a problem?

Every member of the crew wants you to have the very best experience. But if you have any questions or concerns, a quick chat with the Captain is the best thing to do.

Are any areas off-limits?

Please don’t enter the crew areas without permission. The Captain or host/hostess will give you a safety briefing upon embarkation, which will go over how to stay safe on board. For your own safety, take the time to familiarize yourself with all the information provided about lifejackets and the lifeboat drill.

Do I have to take my shoes off?

Please make sure you’re barefoot or wearing socks during the charter or bring slippers. Decks are notoriously fragile and dents and scuffs on the well-polished wood or stains on carpets are a big no-no. Similarly, street shoes can damage a yacht’s antique carpets or custom flooring. Our crews will provide a shoe basket at the end of the gangway to keep your favorite shoes safe.

What luggage should I use?

Soft luggage that can be easily folded up and stowed away is the best option for packing. That’s because although guest staterooms are beautifully designed, storage is always an issue. Hardshell luggage is difficult to store at the best of times.

What is a preference sheet?

A preference sheet is a form you fill out to outline your preferences for all Live Aboard yacht charters. It’s your opportunity to let the crew know about any special requirements you might have for your charter. From the sleeping arrangements for your party to your favorite dessert to meals to water activities, the preference sheet will help the crew create an unforgettable holiday.

When do I have to fill it out the preference sheet?

You’ll get the preference sheet in advance of your charter with your Live Aboard yacht charters booking expert . Please fill it in as soon as you can, and return it to the Cabo Yacht Life booking department approximately 30 days (at the latest) before you embark.

Where and when do I need to pay the APA?

The APA of 30% is due at the same time as your final charter payment, so roughly one month before you set sail. The transfer is made directly to Cabo Yacht Life so you’re in the best of hands. Your Live Aboard yacht charters bookings professional will provide all the necessary bank details ahead of time.

What happens if the APA doesn’t cover all expenses?  

Live Aboard yacht charters cost estimation is fairly accurate, but there’s always a chance that you might decide to blow the budget while at sea. Should your outgoings exceed the initial payment, you can top up the APA in cash while you’re on board, or by wire transfer to the Cabo Yacht Life U.S. bank account or other payment options. The captain will keep you updated throughout the trip, and if there are any outstanding costs, you’ll need to settle up before disembarking.

What if we don’t use the full APA?  

If there’s any credit remaining on the APA account at the end of the charter, the captain will communicate with the bookings and accounting departments to issue a refund. You will receive the outstanding balance after you leave the yacht by wire transfer or your preferred method within five working days after the charter.

Does the APA apply to all Live Aboard charters?  

Yes. When it comes to luxury Live Aboard yacht charters, the APA is usually applied as standard. Simple and straightforward, the APA is the easiest way to keep track of your outgoings while at sea.

Can I charter with my children?

A Live Aboard yacht charters are a dream come true for most kids, thanks to the toys and tenders galore. Cabo Yacht Life Live Aboard charters are family-friendly with children’s activities, itineraries, menus and more on offer.

How do we plan for a child-friendly charter?

Ask your Live Aboard yacht charters reservation expert for a child-friendly itinerary. From sandy beaches to water activities to accommodations before and after Live Aboard yacht charters, the destination of Cabo, Mexico offers a whole host of family activities.

Are there child-friendly activities?

Our Live Aboard yacht charters are full of everything from books and board games to games consoles and music. There’s no time to be bored on a Cabo Yacht Life yacht. From snorkeling to swimming and playing with water toys, there’s no such thing as a dull Live Aboard in the Sea of Cortez. What if my child is a fussy eater?

Just like any 5-star restaurant, yacht chefs are very good at providing delicious meals for the whole family to enjoy. And many chefs will be happy to create kid-friendly dishes to tempt even the pickiest eater. From picking out their own menu to trying local delicacies, your little ones will love mealtime onboard their very own yacht.

What should I look out for?

Ask about safety features for kids. Our yachts have safety equipment including locks, gates and safety nets to create safe play spaces for younger guests. Just ask your Live Aboard booking agent to check with the captain and crew before reserving your yacht and make sure that you mention all special requirements.

Can the crew babysit?

If you need someone to babysit, it’s advised that you bring a nanny on board with you. While the crew are willing to go the extra mile to entertain younger charter guests, they will be too busy to babysit during your charter.

FAQs: Water Toys

Can I use every water toy?

The water toys are there for you to enjoy, but some may need special training or tips prior such as the Sea Bobs. It’s best to check with the Captain first if you’re unsure. Keep in mind that nearly every water toy, water activity, and location can be programmed in advance with your VIP Live Aboard booking professional .

Are the water toys easy to use?

Most of the yacht toys are straightforward and self-explanatory. But if you’ve never used a Sea Bob or Wave Runner, for example, ask the crew to show you how it works before you head out to sea. They’ll be more than happy to assist.

Do I need a lifejacket?

You should always wear a lifejacket when using the toys. As tempting as it might be to jump straight onto the nearest Wave Runner or Sea Bob, safety first is definitely key. The crew will be happy to provide life jackets in a range of sizes to keep everyone safe and sound out on the water.

How do I tip the charter crew?

Give the tip to the captain. He will take care of dividing it between the crew members including those who work behind the scenes. If you feel that any member of the crew has gone above and beyond the call of duty, just let him know.

What are the tipping guidelines?

The tipping policy guidelines have been accepted as standard by most of the Live Aboard yacht charters industry. The guidelines say a tip should be around 15% of your charter fee.

Exotica Charters is a premier yacht charter company owned by DMA Yachting, a renowned international yacht charter group, focusing on charters in exotic locations. New areas have become available due to total adoption and leveraging of a new technology.

United States - September 19, 2024 —

The availability of yacht charters was long dependent upon available marinas that allow for resupply after every charter. As the average size of a crewed charter vessel increased from 45 feet to 90+ feet, they could hold much more supplies. Nowadays, there are only 2 items that need to be restocked frequently - fresh produce and water. Since most charter locations burst with fresh fruit and fish, only water needed to be solved.

myBVIcharter is the leading US yacht charter company offering a robust fleet of catamarans and motor yachts in the British Virgin Islands. The classic weekly itinerary sees all the yachts depart on Saturday in a counterclockwise direction towards Virgin Gorda and Anegada, looping on Tortola on the way back, with the last leg from Jost Van Dyke.

Depending on the day, yachts used to move like the “Spanish Armada”. As yachts started to adopt the water maker, they suddenly had more options to start from almost anywhere, as guests could be picked up on a tender. This means that travelers can start their charter on day 3, staying ahead of the main fleet while on the same itinerary.

In Greece, the effect is twofold as explained by Mo, the Charter Guru at myGreekcharter . Firstly, there are new ways to discover classic locations. Since the first yachts started allowing Santorini pickup/dropoff, other yachts chose to follow suit. Santorini does not have a marina, and the pickup with a tender was a game changer. The amount of water needed for 15 people made daily stocking impractical and the yachts chose to start and finish in Athens.

Secondly, new charter areas in Greece have become available. As new yachts continued to arrive, the Athens’ marinas were full around 2022. The new yachts needed to find new marinas. A fundamental question - “why do we need a marina?”, led to yachts operating in areas previously not touched by the crewed yachts - Sporades and Dodecanese islands.

As Daniel, the owner of DMA Yachting, explains, ”We’re seeing first 3-4 crewed yachts permanently stationed in the Sporades and 8-10 yachts in the Dodecanese. Previously, you had to charter from Athens and ideally take a 2-week charter. This is no longer the case - you can start almost anywhere.”

The situation with the motor yacht Bahamas is similar. The previously Nassau-centric model, where all yachts started in Nassau and went for a weekly “milk run” charter to the Exumas, is challenged. “People don’t want to charter in the same spot twice”, explains Mo. “With 2,400 Cays, why not start in Eleuthera or even Long Island? And if the charterer wants to start in Staniel Cay, why get there from Nassau? Start the charter there!”

The water maker is not a new technology. It’s been around for a long time. It’s the innovative use, wide adoption, and necessity to spend less or no time in the marina that made the yachts offered by myBVIcharter behave differently. 

According to Daniel, owner of the DMA Yachting group comprised of myBVIcharter, Exotic Charters, Bahamas Motor Yachts & myGreekcharter, the adoption of water makers skyrocketed from a humble 30% to a whopping 100% in the last five years. 

Due to over-tourism and overcrowding in mainstream locations, people seeking intimate retreats are becoming increasingly more interested in exotic spots like Thailand, Raja Ampat, Galapagos or Antarctica. A water maker onboard is the key technological change that made these new locations feasible.

Exotica Charters , a yacht charter specialist in emerging and remote locations owned by DMA Yachting, has also observed increasing deployment of water makers in its fleet. “We’re suddenly able to create completely new itineraries, as we can do a route ABCD instead of A to A. You can get picked up in B and dropped off at C a week later. We’re seeing multiweek charters covering huge distances, especially in the Med: Sardina/Corsica, France to Italy to Malta, Ionian to Turkey in Greece.”

Season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean was no Greek holiday for Captain Sandy Yawn. The fearless leader of the 180-foot M/Y Mustique worked through delayed provisions, wild weather, demanding guests with staff not all up to standard.

However, if there was one thing Yawn loves is a good challenge.  That and her now wife Leah Shafer. During the season finale, airing on September 23, viewers will see the trailblazing yacht captain pop the question. She had clearly planned it out, enlisting the help of chief stew and friend Aesha Scott to help make the arrangements. Of course, it wouldn’t be Below Deck without a little drama unfolding as shown in teasers. 

Before the season sails off into the sunset, we caught up with Yawn to reflect on all that happened. 

What was the most eye-opening part of watching this season?  

Watching Ellie ( Elena Dubaich) with Bri ( Muller) . That was, you know, the most eye-opening.

I’d say you definitely had to pack your patience this season. How would you describe the dynamic of the crew? Who would you say grew the most within their position? 

The dynamic of the crew, watching the show, I think the deck didn’t really have a great dynamic with Iain [Maclean]. It was kind of like, I don’t know it wasn’t a rhythm. They didn’t have a rhythm. Who grew the most? I would like to say Nathan [ Gallagher] because I didn’t know that Joe [Bradley] was the lead deckhand and when I said, “Nathan you’re my bell guy,” I watched Nathan take charge. He was excellent at his job. So, I would say Nathan.

There was a point where you were going to fire Chef Jono [Jonthan Shillingford] toward the end of the season, but there wasn’t another chef available. Do you think he redeemed himself? 

 I do. However, serving fish that could’ve killed someone. If there was a chef available, I would’ve fired him for that.

What were your thoughts on the whole drama between Joe, Ellie, and Bri? 

Joe was very honest with all of them, and also Carrie [O’Neill], right.

What kind of job did you think Iain did as bosun? Do you feel he made the right move promoting Joe to lead deckhand despite the work Nathan was doing? 

No. Joe is in sales. He is a great talker. People who can talk a good game necessarily may not have the experience. Iain didn’t really watch how they did their jobs, and clearly Nathan had a lot more experience. That was on his CV as well.

In retrospect, do you think Aesha should have made Ellie second? 

In retrospect, no, I think Ellie did a good job. I think Aesha, you know, chose because she paid attention and Ellie seemed to take charge. She probably would’ve come and talked to me about Ellie, which she did and then I had that conversation with her and Bri. But Ellie did a good job.

Is there anything you would have done differently this season? 

 I don’t think so. Honestly, I do the best I can with the information that I have. So, I wish I could have four stews every season!

The finale captures your engagement. What does having that moment shared with the rest of the world mean to you? 

Special. It’s special because I met Leah while I was doing a show, so the fans watched our love story throughout the years. Why not share that with all of them on TV, like they were there for the journey? Why not for the finale?

What can you tease about what viewers will see? It looked like Joe had a little hiccup that may affect how things unfolded. 

Yeah, you know, Joe, I think it’s a beautiful story the way Leah explained it to me after. It’s like no matter what situation I’m in I always become a captain and help people out. I think the viewers, if that actually airs, will enjoy how I helped Joe.

Has married life changed the way you look at your career? 

Not at all, no, it’s the best feeling in the world. It’s only made me feel more settled if that makes sense. My career, I love it. It’s incredible. I don’t think differently about my career.

How would you sum up the season? 

Greece is cool! I totally dig Greece I would totally go back there. It’s all about Greece for me. Obviously learning everything from the crew and the clients, I think this season I loved being in Greece. I think it offers a lot of culture. There was the food experience, the locals, the islands, and the weather because it was always windy. I felt like I was in Chicago sometimes. But yeah, It’s all about Greece for me.

Is there anywhere you hope the show goes next? 

Well, it’s so funny because I wish sailing would get out of the Mediterranean. They’re taking all our spots! Montenegro, that coast, or somewhere in Croatia. I love Croatia, and I’d love to go back there. Turkey would be cool, if it’s safe of course.

But what was supposed to be a routine pleasure cruise aboard a superyacht turned deadly all the same on the morning of Aug. 19 when the 184-foot Bayesian got caught in a storm and sank off the coast of Sicily .

"I can't remember the last time I read about a vessel going down quickly like that," Stephen Richter of SAR Marine Consulting told NBC News . "You know, completely capsizing and going down that quickly, a vessel of that nature, a yacht of that size."

Of the 22 people onboard, including crew, seven people died. The last of the bodies was recovered Aug. 23, an expectedly sad coda to what had already been a tragic week as the search for answers as to how this happened got underway.

And to be sure, every minute of the Bayesian's ill-fated outing is being fiercely scrutinized, starting with the general seaworthiness of the vessel itself.

Because, frankly, this was a freak occurrence.

"Boats of this size, they’re taking passengers on an excursion or a holiday," Richter explained. "They are not going to put them in situations where it may be dangerous or it may be uncomfortable, so this storm that popped up was obviously an anomaly. These vessels that carry passengers, they’re typically very well-maintained, very well-appointed."

But in this case, a $40 million yacht sank, seven people are dead—including a billionaire tech mogul and his 18-year-old daughter—and morbid fascination doesn't need a second wind.

Here is how the story of the Sicily yacht tragedy has unfolded so far:

What happened to the yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily?

The Bayesian had set off from the Sicilian port of Milazzo on Aug. 14 at capacity with 12 guests and 10 crewmembers aboard.

The aluminum-hulled vessel was built in 2008 by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi and registered in the U.K. Cruise sites listed it as available for charter at $215,000 per week, per the Associated Press.

On the morning of Aug. 19, the superyacht was anchored off the coast of Porticello, a small fishing village in the Sicilian province of Palermo (also the name of Sicily's capital city), when a violent storm hit.

The vessel "suddenly sank" at around 5 a.m. local time, seemingly due to "the terrible weather conditions," the City Council of Bagheria announced shortly afterward, per NBC News .

At the time, only one person was confirmed dead—the ship's chef—but six others were said to be missing. The 15 survivors—who managed to make it onto an inflatable life boat, according to emergency officials—were rescued that morning by the crew of another yacht that had been nearby when the storm hit.

"Fifteen people inside," Karsten Borner, the Dutch captain of the ship that was able to help (the Sir Robert Baden Powell), told reporters afterward, per Reuters. "Four people were injured, three heavily injured, and we brought them to our ship. Then we communicated with the coast guard, and after some time, the coast guard came and later picked up injured people."

When the storm hit, his boat ran into "a strong hurricane gust," Borner said, "and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position."

They "managed to keep the ship in position," he continued, but once the storm died down, they realized the other boat that had been behind them—the Bayesian—was gone.

The wreck ended up settling 165 feet below the surface, according to Italy's national fire department.

Fire officials said that divers, a motorboat and a helicopter were deployed to search for the missing.

Meanwhile, footage was captured of the ship capsizing on closed-circuit TV about a half-mile away from where it was anchored.

In the video obtained by NBC News, the illuminated 250-foot aluminum mast of the ship appears to list severely to one side before disappearing completely. Survivors recalled having just a few minutes to literally abandon ship.

Who were the seven people who died when the yacht Bayesian sank?

The tragedy initially became headline news because billionaire tech mogul Mike Lynch—"Britain's Bill Gates," some U.K. media called him—was among the missing. His body was ultimately recovered Aug. 22 .

"They told me that suddenly they found themselves catapulted into the water without even understanding how they had got there," Dr. Fabio Genco, head of the Palermo Emergency Medical Services, told NBC News Aug. 22. "And that the whole thing seems to have lasted from 3 to 5 minutes."

Genco said he got to Porticello about an hour after the Bayesian capsized.

Survivors "told me that it was all dark, that the yacht hoisted itself up and then went down," he said. "All the objects were falling on them. That’s why I immediately made sure, by asking them questions, if they had any internal injuries."

Why did the yacht sink?

Italian prosecutors are investigating to determine what transpired before the boat went down, according to NBC News.

Meanwhile, the CEO of shipbuilder Perini's parent company The Italian Sea Group defended the vessel itself as "unsinkable."

Perini boats "are the safest in the most absolute sense," Giovanni Costantino told Sky News Aug. 22 . What happened to the Bayesian "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other," he continued. "This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact."

Costantino said it had to have been human error that led to the boat sinking, declaring, "Mistakes were made."

"Everything that was done reveals a very long summation of errors," he told newspaper Corriere della Sera Aug. 21, in an interview translated from Italian. "The people should not have been in the cabins, the boat should not have been at anchor."

The weather was "all predictable," he continued, adding that the storm "was fully legible in all the weather charts. It couldn't have been ignored."

The yacht's captain, identified as James Cutfield of New Zealand, was taken to Termini Imerese hospital for treatment. From there, he told La Repubblica, per Sky News , that he didn't see the storm coming.

Borner, the captain of the ship that rescued the 15 Bayesian survivors, told NBC News that he noticed the storm come in at 4 a.m. local time, and saw what looked to him like a waterspout, a type of tornado that forms above water.

The International Centre for Waterspout Research posted on X Aug. 19 that it had "confirmed 18 waterspouts today off the coasts of Italy. Some were powerful waterspouts, one of which may have been responsible for the sinking of a large yacht off of Sicily."

Borner said he didn't know why the Bayesian sank so quickly, guessing "it may have something to do with the mast, which was incredibly long." (A tall mast, even with its sails down, means there's more surface area exposed to wind, which can result in tipping.)

Confirming that one person was dead and six unaccounted for immediately following the wreck on Aug. 19, Salvo Cocina of Sicily's civil protection agency told reporters that a waterspout had struck the area overnight.

"They were in the wrong place at the wrong time," he said.

The 59-year-old founder of software firm Autonomy had been on the trip with his wife Angela Bacares and their 18-year-old, Oxford-bound daughter Hannah to celebrate his recent acquittal in the U.S. on fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from the $11.7 billion purchase of his company by Hewlett-Packard in 2011.

In a bizarre turn of events, Lynch's co-defendant at trial, Stephen Chamberlain, the former vice president of finance at Autonomy, died after being taken off life support following a road accident on Aug. 17. Chamberlain's attorney told Reuters Aug. 20 that his friend and client had been out for a run when he was "fatally struck" by a car.

Meanwhile, multiple people who contributed to Lynch's defense were on the cruise with him and his family.

The bodies of Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer—who testified on Lynch's behalf—and his wife Judy Bloomer, as well as lawyer Chris Morvillo, a partner at the U.S. firm Clifford Chance, and his wife Neda Morvillo, a jewelry designer, were recovered on Aug. 21 .

In a LinkedIn post thanking the team that successfully defended Lynch, Morvillo wrote, per Sky News , "And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo. None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after…"

The first casualty confirmed Aug. 19 was the ship's Canadian-Antiguan chef, later identified as Recaldo Thomas.

"He was a one-of-a-kind special human being," a friend of Thomas told The Independent . "Incredibly talented, contagious smile and laugh, an incredible voice with a deep love of the ocean and the moon. I spoke to him nearly every day. He loved his life his friends and his job."

Hannah's body was the last of the missing six to be found , with divers bringing her remains ashore on Aug. 23.

Lynch and Bacares, who was rescued, also shared a 21-year-old daughter, according to The Times.

While awaiting trial, Lynch—who maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings—had spent 13 months under house arrest in San Francisco. Back home in London afterward, he admitted to The Times in July that he'd been afraid of dying in prison if he'd been found guilty. (He faced a possible 25-year sentence.)

"It's bizarre, but now you have a second life," he reflected. "The question is, what do you want to do with it?"
