San Francisco Wedding at the Presidio Yacht Club // San Francisco Wedding Photographer Cavallo Point

The Presidio Yacht Club in San Francisco offers a perfect wedding backdrop. This is one of my favorite venues, from unique port holes and green chipped paint to views of the golden gate you can’t go wrong. Cameron and Emily incorporated their love for sailing and the sea beautifully by using one boat for getting ready and a sailboat to go under the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset! They chose to do their first look on the pier under the San Francisco bridge and dined on the food from their favorite food trucks. From Vintage Rolls Royce cars and beautiful Yachts, I felt so lucky to be a part of Emily and Cameron’s unique day.

Presidio Yacht Club at Travis Marina is SUCH a stunning, unique wedding venue under the Golden Gate Bridge nestled in Fort Baker, Sausalito CA. It has even been described as a hidden gem (though not for long as demand is apparently high!)

It’s an institution for the people so prices are kept affordable, and the atmosphere familiar and relaxed. It honestly felt like such an honor to even be able to host a wedding here with so much history and such breathtaking views.

So let’s get into more about this venue and how my couple, Anna & Chuck used it for their wedding.

Table of Contents

About Travis Marina as a wedding venue

The venue is multi-use, service-driven operation that is welcoming for civilians, veterans, active duty and retired military. It’s located on the northern edge of Horseshoe Bay, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

It’s super close to San Francisco but with a completely different feel. To give it a comparison, it does feel a little like being in the Presidio with its windy roads, pristine lawns and military batteries.

The Travis Marina itself was originally built to support mine-laying operations and anti-submarine warfare during World War 2. Since then, it has been opened up to civilian use. It’s part of Travis Air Force Base and shares connections with the Presidio Yacht Club.

The wedding day

This is more than history for my couple Anna & Chuck, this place is part of their story! These proud Sausalito locals got engaged here on the little jetty and come here often.

Anna definitely had a clear wedding vision when it came to utilizing and decorating the various spaces. An expert planning team, master florist and sumptuous rental pieces were key to bringing the vision to life.

I started my day at Cavallo Point Lodge where Anna was getting ready with the ladies (+ 2 dogs). It’s possible to walk from Cavallo Point to Presidio Yacht Club at Travis Marina (or to save time, a ~2 minute drive). My second photographer photographed Chuck and the groomsmen’s arrival via sailboat. They got wedding-ready on site.

We had the first look inside the banquet hall, then got most of the group photos done pre-ceremony. During cocktail hour we captured the remaining groupings plus the jaw-dropping reception setup, and romantics right as we hit blue hour.

The night rounded off with a delicious meal & speeches followed by drinks & dancing with the band upstairs in the bar area.

This wedding was one for the books! It had everything – intense emotion, exquisite florals, fabulous guests, unbelievable views and setups to die for! I’ll share more about the individual spaces and my photographs of this event, so that you can picture your wedding there.

Spaces within Travis Marina

the deck area at travis marina

This is the best place for ceremonies! Though a little snug for larger parties (maybe not every guest would have a seat), it’s so romantic to get married in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s rustic with more than a touch of windswept elegance.

My couple also used this area for their cocktail hour.

The boathouse

the boathouse at Travis Marina Presidio Yacht Club set up for a wedding

The rustic boathouse with shabby-chic turquoise walls is perfect for large gatherings. There’s no shortage of space for your formal dining event while retaining a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

It’s so versatile that it would work well for wedding ceremonies, lounging area and concerts.

interior and exterior of the bar at Travis Marina with groomsmen drinking

The bar (also known as ‘Mike’s Place’)  is directly upstairs from the banquet hall and has a beautiful view. It’s a clubhouse lodge with wood interior and old-world, pub-style seating. The walls are adorned with military and nautical-inspired decor. There’s also a full bar.

This area was where the boys to chilled pre-ceremony, where the marriage license was signed and most importantly this is where the dancefloor is. It worked perfectly for Anna & Chuck’s live band.

The banquet hall

the banquet hall of Presidio Yacht Club's travis marina set up for a wedding

The banquet hall is on the first floor and overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge and the ceremony area. It boasts 3 large windows and 2 glass french doors – it’s connected to an industrial kitchen.

The weather was gorgeous for Anna & Chuck’s September wedding, so this space was mostly an overflow/chill-out area during cocktail hour, decked out with the most stunning decor. It was also where the dessert bar was set up.

Here are the photos from Anna & Chuck’s beautiful day by Horseshoe Bay!

Brad & Stephanie’s Wedding at The Presidio Yacht Club

It felt full-circle for us to document Brad and Stephanie’s wedding after witnessing their sunrise proposal at the top of Slackers Hill a year ago, with the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco as their backdrop. This time though, we experienced those iconic views from a different perspective, down by the marina at their wedding at the Presidio Yacht Club.

The day began with Stephanie getting ready with her bridesmaids at Cavallo Point Lodge, surrounded by excitement and laughter. Before the ceremony, she shared a first look with her dad and brother, which was a sweet prelude to the intimate and picturesque ceremony, with the Golden Gate Bridge and the city skyline in the background. Unlike the sweeping views from their proposal, this setting brought a grounded yet equally beautiful vibe as they took turns exchanging wedding vows.

Adding a fun splash of personality, the bridesmaids and groomsmen wore coordinated outfits in a variety of colors, creating a vibrant palette that reflected the day’s joyful atmosphere. As the ceremony came to a close, we walked over near the bridge for some stunning sunset photos, just as the fog rolled in to complete their classic San Francisco experience.

The celebration continued at The Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon, a cozy and elegant venue perfect for their reception. With their closest family and friends, Brad and Stephanie laughed, danced, and toasted to a future just as beautiful as the day they said, “I do.” Capturing their journey from proposal to wedding day was an honor, and we’re thrilled to have been part of their love story!

Colorful Marin Wedding at the Presidio Yacht Club in the Travis Marina

Anne and james’ super fun wedding at the presidio yacht club in the travis marina in sausalito.

Anne and James’ wedding at the Presidio Yacht Club in the Travis Marina in Sausalito was a blast.  So much of a blast, actually, that two random people tried to crash the dance party.  I have shot at a good number of venues in Marin, but this was my first time at the Travis Marina.  The venue is a mix of industrial, nautical, and dive bar.  The vibes are all good.  It is close to San Francisco and downtown Sausalito.  Cavallo Point is incredibly close for guests who want to stay close by. The views are spectacular, the space is excellent, and there is lots of parking close by.

Anne and James work and live in San Francisco.  Anne’s father, who also acted as officiant for the wedding, used to be a judge in Marin County.  He was so funny.  Anne and James were super mellow, easygoing, and fun to work with.  I hope you enjoy this sneak peek into their wedding day.

Getting Ready in Sausalito

Anne and her bridesmaids got ready at a family friend’s house in Sausalito.  Eliza Desch did hair and makeup for Anne and some of the bridesmaids, and some did their own makeup. They had a beautiful platter of snacks (it’s always a good idea to consider brunch/ lunch when getting ready before a wedding).  I hung out with Anne and her crew for half an hour or so before heading into town to stop by the Inn Above Tides where the guys were getting ready.  The scene with the gents was pretty mellow so I headed to Travis Marina to get set up and take a look around.

Pre Ceremony Portraits at Travis Marina

After a quick first look at the Presidio Yacht Club, we found a cool old building outside for immediate family and wedding party portraits.  The day was partially cloudy.  The overcast sky made finding a good spot for portraits a good bit easier.  I love the mix of nature, industrial, and colorful bridesmaids’ dresses, and floral arrangements.

Hilarious Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony location at the Presidio Yacht Club has a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Seating is somewhat limited, but the guests who didn’t get seats at Anne and James’ wedding didn’t seem to mind standing.  As I mentioned earlier, Anne’s father used to be a Marin County judge.  He officiated the wedding and started out the proceedings by making observations about guests’ choices for dinner and seating. He quickly had the audience laughing out loud.  The ceremony had a perfect mix of funny and sweet.

Cocktail Hour and Couple Portraits

During cocktail hour, folks hung out upstairs in the Travis Marina Bar and on the deck in front of the Presidio Yacht Club.  The deck space is a little tight, but people didn’t seem to mind.  Once Anne and James had a chance to chat a bit, and grab some beverages and something to eat, I took them for a little walk down the marina.  We walked to the breakwater and chatted about work and life.  It turns out that James knows my brother-in-law.  We walked to the end of the parking lot and got some nice shots with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.  Anne was a trooper and braved the cold and wind.  After about 15 minutes, we headed back for dinner.

Dinner, Cake Cutting, and Dancing

Dinner was held in the large warehouse space that looks to have been the repair space for the Yacht Club at one time.  Workbenches and caution signs are still there.  Sails hung from the ceiling.  After dinner, there was a series of incredibly funny, spot-on toasts.  After toasts, Anne and James cut their cake and then went upstairs for an awesome dance party.  I have to say, that not all dance parties are created equal.  Sometimes the DJ just doesn’t bring the party.  Sometimes folks aren’t in a dancing mood.  At this wedding, folks tore up and dance floor, and DJ John Piazza certainly brought the party.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed this wedding. I know I sure did. I want to mention that Rae + Rose Floral Co did the awesome flowers. Carrie and Miguel from Golden Gate Special Events rocked the event coordination!

presidio yacht club wedding

Christina and Andy envisioned a wedding that was a cozy, authentic, and unforgettable gathering, like hosting the ultimate dinner party in their own space. They aimed for an atmosphere that exuded warmth and joy, complete with exceptional food , drinks , and music . With this in mind, they meticulously infused elements of their personalities into every facet of their Presidio Yacht Club wedding. The result was nothing short of extraordinary—a celebration that beautifully captured their love and cherished values.

They knew they wanted a unique venue , a place not typically considered for weddings. They got creative and made it a spectacular event by having the ceremony on the dock, with the city and bay as a backdrop. Flowers played a big role, with whimsical and airy meadow-style installations behind the altar. The reception took place in the old boat house, where they hung old sails for a rustic touch, strung lights across the ceiling, and candles on the tables added a warm glow. To cap off the evening, they danced in an old-school, wood-paneled dive bar upstairs.

If you’ve ever pondered about infusing your individuality into every detail of your special day for a cohesive and elegant theme, then this wedding is a must-see. These stunning photos by Junebug member Teri B perfectly capture the spirit of their love tale and the remarkable day they curated. Explore all the imaginative ideas that will add a personal touch to your big day, making it feel even more intimate and special.

Creating Meaningful Moments During the Ceremony

We had a good friend officiate , and to architect her words, she did short interviews with our parents. It was beautiful to hear how she wove all of their inputs together. We also asked two friends to do readings , nothing religious, and we gave them pretty loose guidelines to read a passage, song lyrics, poem, or article that represents love and long-term partnership to them. We wrote our own vows , and Andy surprised me with song lyrics at the end of his. We were smiling ear to ear and laughing the whole time. I’m shocked I didn’t cry!

Creating a Unique SF Experience: Why They Chose a Presidio Yacht Club Wedding

We knew we wanted a venue with some character, a space you might not even think of for a wedding. And because we decided to host our wedding in SF, where we met seven years ago, we wanted to ensure our guests had a “very SF” experience. We started with the venue search. We knew Presidio Yacht Club was the one! It has a lot of character and grit, with some of the best possible views of San Francisco. We could host the ceremony on the dock, with the city and the Bay behind us, have dinner in the old, rustic boat house, and finish the evening dancing in the old school, wood-paneled dive bar upstairs. Andy always joked he wanted to get married in a dive bar, which was as close as it would get! The venue was a big part of setting the vibe, but it was a space that needed a lot of work to bring it to life, so a lot went into curating all the decor and flowers to bring it to life. The venue also had a perfect setup for each portion of the evening, which made it easy to contain the whole wedding and reception in the same place while still offering a change of scenery from ceremony to dinner to dancing.

How They Curated Their Dream Wedding Without Overspending

San Fransisco is an expensive place to get married, and we only had a limited budget , so we curated creative inspo that we loved and then shopped around to find vendors who could achieve our vision while matching our budget and being able to execute our vision without breaking the bank. We found creative ways to achieve a pretty stunning evening. Because food was so important to us, that was the first vendor we booked, Katie Powers , who is known for delicious family-style meals made from locally sourced ingredients. We wanted florals to play a big part in decor and wanted something whimsical, airy, abstract, and unexpected. We found a local flower farmer who grows some of the most gorgeous flowers in the Bay and was game to take on our vision (she crushed it!). A good friend of ours is a horticulturist and has been making biophilic art for years—she offered to make us some meadow-style installations to go behind us at the altar and behind where we sat at dinner. We hung old sails across one of the boathouse’s walls, adding to the rustic vibe, and light s were strung across the ceiling. Candles on the tables helped create a warm glow.

Setting the Mood Through a Thoughtfully Curated Playlist for Their Presidio Yacht Club Wedding

We had a DJ playing music throughout the wedding, and we spent hours, I mean hours, curating playlists to serve as guides for him. He played vinyl during the dancing, which was a total vibe with the disco ball spinning above and red lights, making the room feel perfectly moody and cool. Our guests played a massive role in the overall feel of the wedding, too! We have a really fun crew of friends, and they absolutely brought the energy that night.

Top Tips for Stress-Free Wedding Planning: Stay Organized and Communicative

Start early, stay organized with spreadsheets and Google Docs, keep a close tally of expenses (and expect to spend more than you want to!), and have clear communication with your vendors. Don’t be afraid to give very clear instructions and feedback to vendors. It’s so important that they clearly understand your vision and what you like and don’t like—block time to work on wedding stuff together as a couple. Do as much as possible as far in advance as possible because a million tiny little things will come up in the final weeks, and the last thing you want is to be stressed out. We created a master spreadsheet with different categories and then line items for each expense. We researched costs and put in projected costs, which we updated with actuals once we had final expenses. We kept this updated close to real-time and shared it with all our parents for full transparency.

Perfect Presidio Yacht Club Wedding Under the Golden Gate Bridge

The Presidio Yacht Club  was the perfect setting for Whitney and Kevin’s comfortable intimate wedding under the Golden Gate Bridge.  Being avid cyclists, they would typically stop at this little-known quirky historic venue on the bay for a post-ride refreshment. With 100 or so guests coming in from around the country, they  wanted to share and highlight their love of the Bay Area (ie, succulents, bicycling, live music, DIY, flea markets, antiques, wine country, the waterfront, and fresh local seasonal foods served family style).

Fall wedding at the presidio yacht club.

Annnnddd… this is the part I struggle with the most… What words can I write that add to the story of Bryan and Caitlin’s Presidio Yacht Club wedding… It’s paralyzing sometimes, and truth be told, the main hinderance to posting more than I do. So, ya know what? Today I’ll let the photos do the heavy lifting.

In short, they wanted the ceremony to be an intimate gathering of their inner circle. Their crew. Their fam. They gathered on a bluff that overlooked the San Francisco Bay, just the dozen of them, some wind, some waves, and the Golden Gate Bridge as witnesses.

Afterward, the party dropped at the Presidio Yacht Club , where all their friends joined. And on the celebration went until the wee-est hours of the night.

Bryan and Caitlin, when I look at the small little gathering you guys put together to lend an ear to your vows, I know I wasn’t in the official count, but it was nonetheless a privilege to be there with you all, snapping these photos so you can relive this awesome day.

Wedding at Presidio Yacht Club at Travis Marina | Sausalito, California

When Kimberly booked me for her November wedding at Presidio Yacht Club at Travis Marina, I was so excited and just a tad curious what the weather would be like-

This venue is located off the last exit before you drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, so it has amazing views when it’s a clear day; but Bay Area weather is SO tempramental! My husband and I rode bikes over the GGB in June a few years ago and it was so foggy we couldn’t see anything! As you drive down the 101 from Sonoma County, you can usually see the thick fog rolling in; it’s pretty trippy!

You guys!!! Kimberly & Ryan’s wedding day was all we could have ever imagined! The weather was perfect...we got a great view of the bridge, the city and we were not freezing!

A few months before, I had done a venue walkthrough with Kim, her sister and her Dad, and when I walked up, I saw a man with them that I felt I knew (he is married to an old friend of mine from college), and ran up to say hi! He looked so confused, but was trying not to show it in front of his clients. I see him on social media here and there through my friend Carrie’s posts. Has that ever happened to you before? Lol. Anyways, I quickly explained, we all laughed, and I found out that Miguel is the manager of the venue! Small world:)

The wedding party got ready at Casa Madrona   and wow, such a beautiful place! We were able to do getting ready, first look and family photos there! It was perfect!

Then I got to take a ride in my first Tesla! The hotel has a Tesla that they use to take guests places, so I went with the bride and groom and MOB to the venue. I’m such a dork, but it was super cool to ride in a car where the doors lifted up when they opened!

I LOVED having extra time with the bride and groom at the venue before guests arrived. There is a walkway out my the boats that has rock on either side, with an incredible view of the GGB. I could have been out there all day!

I was so excited to see the decor of this wedding- a cross between tropical and nautical! I’m just gunna go ahead and put it out there- shooting a wedding in Hawaii is on my bucket list! - so all of the leafy greens had me 😍 !

Something else totally special- I got referred to this bride by Marisa from So Eventful (she is best friends with the brides sister) and Marisa actually performed the ceremony! This meant I got to witness Marisa front and center, and that I got to work with Briana from So Eventful (so Marisa would enjoy the party with her friends!). It was a win-win! I loved hearing about how special the city is to this couple- how they met in San Francisco, Ryan proposed during a helicopter ride over the Golden Gate, and now they were saying their vows with it as their backdrop. Just writing this gives me all the feels!

This wedding had one of the best first dances I have ever shot- they moved all the ceremony chairs to the reception and had the first dances outside just as the sun was setting, so each couple got to dance on the deck with the sun setting and the lights of the GGB in the background. The song “When The Lights Go Down In City” came on, such a nostalgic moment for a Bay Area native. It was like being at a home game for the Giants (but better!). And then the bride danced with her Dad! First, to a song by Barbara Streisand (he told a sweet story during toasts about singing it to her as a baby) and then they rocked out to Michael Jackson (my kinda bride!).

Food was incredible, and I actually ran into a girl I used to babysit for who was on the wait staff (yep, way to make me feel old, Alyssa!). It was truly a magical evening (I know it sounds cliche, but wow! It was incredible!)

Huge thanks to these vendors for making my job easy-

Hotel- Casa Madrona (their views of Sausalito were insane!)

Hair- Bridget (hair was ON POINT! Especially the bride, who has the beach beach waves!)

Makeup- Janesa Simmons (guys, she just started a makeup tutorial on YouTube and it’s incredible! Go check it out! )

Presidio Yacht Club (Miguel, you and your staff were amazing!! I can’t wait to come back!)

Catering- Trends Catering (I don’t know what they did to their chicken, but holy wow it was 👌🏻 )

DJ - David Rokeach (if you don’t have an amazing DJ at your wedding, it shows...and these guys rocked it, and were so fun to work with!!)

Cupcakes- Sift (um, have you tried their cupcakes? Yum!!!)

Rentals- Encore (everything looked amazing, guys!!)

Linens- La Tavola (their Healdsburg boutique is down the street from my studio and those girls are amazing! I learn about what podcasts to listen to...seriously, go check out their showroom!)

presidio yacht club wedding

This dreamy wedding was at one of my favorite venues in the San Francisco Bay Area – with views overlooking the Golden Gate bridge and the sounds of the waves lapping the shore, it feels like you’re in the middle of the ocean. When I met Jess & Adam for their engagement session, it was one of the foggiest days on the coast I’d experienced and I told them they were owed a good golden hour on their wedding day. The fog held off and we got to experience one of the best sunsets by the bridge I’ve ever seen! This was a wedding day that was equal parts emotional & fun. Their crew knows how to get down (as you can see from the reception shots!) but I also loved the reactions during the ceremony – there wasn’t a dry eye. From Jessica’s emotional first look with her dad, to our magical sunset portraits, this was a perfect day.
