The ‘Reborn’ Luxury Yacht Attessa IV Visits Puerto Vallarta

You may have seen mega yacht Attessa IV sailing around Puerto Vallarta in the last few days. Valued at $250 million USD, this World Superyacht Awards 2011 winner is one of a kind 328-foot long vessel equipped with its own helicopter. Not only is it one of the largest luxury motor yachts in the world, but also conceals a peculiar story.

Originally built as Evergreen in 1999 for Taiwanese shipping tycoon Chang Yung-fa − late founder and chairman of the Evergreen Group − , it was a 298-foot vessel designed by Diana Yacht Design. It had a conservative design and among its features, there was a large karaoke bar, 15 cabins for guests and room for 21 crew members. In 2007 it was sold to the current owner Dennis Washington.

Washington is an American industrialist and billionaire who owns the Washington Group Intl. and Seaspan Marine Corporation. With an estimated net worth around $6 billion − making him the 79 th -richest person in the US − , he is well known for his taste for luxury mega yachts, owning up to three of them:  the Feadship Attessa , the St. Eval and the Attessa IV itself.

But Washington is not the typical yacht lover: he likes to rebuild yachts instead of building new custom ones. In this case, the reconstruction for the Attessa IV took a 3.5-year long period where the bow, stern, shape, structure, interior layout and features were all changed. Finally, in 2010, under supervision of Washington Yachting Group and thanks to the talents of designers Glade Johnson and Washington’s own wife Phyllis, as well as naval architect Gregory K. Marshall’s work, the ‘new’ Attessa IV was born.

The reborn luxury mega yacht offers 2,322 square meters of interior and provides deluxe accommodation for 36 guests and a crew of 21 members. The yacht includes many amazing features like a spa on the lower deck and top deck, a large Spa Pool and a hanging glass sculpture by artist Dale Chihuly. The super yacht also boasts a new foredeck tender garage and a striking helipad. Some of the celebrity guests that have been spotted enjoying the yacht is Bill Gates, who went on a family holiday in Belize in 2012.

The outside seating on the bow and elevated upper deck provided great spots to relax with massages and enjoyed the scenery. The well-stocked bar of snacks and beverages. Ricky and the crew were professional, friendly, and attentive, ensuring everyone had a great time. Whether you’re looking to go whale watching, enjoy a sunset cruise, or have a little booze cruise, the Chica Loca, is the perfect choice! Highly recommend!

Paco and the rest of Candy’s team made our day on the bay delightful! The boat was roomy and comfy and we really appreciated the extra shade coverage. Paco was knowledgeable about the area and listened to what we wanted to get out of the day before we took off. They took us snorkeling and to a secret cove where we enjoyed floating and exploring. And, the cherry on top was locating a dolphin! The crew was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We had a fun and safe experience all around!

Booking with Raul was so easy, he answered all of my questions quickly and was so flexible! Great experience. The boat was so clean and modern, exactly as described, and the crew, Alfredo, Fernando, and Caesar, took care of our every need! The food was great and the drinks never stopped flowing. Luxury 55' Yacht + Jet Ski [All-Inclusive] in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Chica Lorca Tours exceeded our expectations in every way. Despite a mix-up regarding the marina where we were supposed to meet, the owner, Gill, promptly resolved the issue with exceptional care and professionalism. The entire team was incredibly accommodating. The crew on the boat was outstanding, and even the staff at the office near the marina went above and beyond to ensure our safety and comfort, including helping us get to our transportation. I highly recommend Chica Lorca Tours for an unforgettable experience.

Wow wow wow!!!! That’s all I have to say. The boat is a little older but absolutely incredible. Amazing service all throughout! We had an amazing time and definitely recommend! BOOK! BOOK! BOOK!!!

The boat condition was good and staff was friendly and accommodating. However there was very poor communication in regard to the portion of trip to las ánimas. When we arrived the pier was under construction, and a separate small boat was required for transportation to shore. It was not disclosed that there would be a fee to transfer nor how much. We also were then told we had to go to a certain restaurant which was not our choice where the staff was rude. When we arrived back on the boat we were only then told that the 2 minute ride to shore and back would cost $500 pesos, which is incredibly overpriced and something we had also not budgeted for. If we had known there was a fee we all would have been fine swimming to shore. We assumed since not discussed prior this would be part of the $1300 we paid for the boat trip since the dock is clearly known to be down and we had set up the plan to go to ánimas ahead of time. This was very upsetting and felt like people were trying to rip us off for money last minute. I would recommend looking into this further for future guests so they do not experience this.

Located just south of the airport and 15 minutes from downtown, Marina Vallarta is a master-planned community. Marietas Islands, one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in Mexico’s Pacific coast formed long ago by volcanic activity, the archipelago are two formations of uninhabited islands– long island and round island… Dominated by large caves and cliffs, that protects coral reef, multicolored tropical fishes.

These Islands are the home of a vast colony of sea birds, such as the true pirate of the sky, the magnificent frigate bird, egrets, herons, sea gulls, pelicans, brown boobies and the world famous galapagos Blue-footed Booby. Different species of corals inhabit these areas and of course, many different species of fish enjoy the safety and productivity of the surrounding waters. You might spot King Angelfish, Panamic Sergeant Majors, Cortez Chubs, Giant Damselfish, Moorish Idol, Rainbow Wrasse, and many more.

In the round island is located the HIDDEN BEACH (Monday and tuesday is closed, access under strict control and restrictions; respecting the maximum number of persons allowed per day. Set by CONANP) , to reach this secluded paradise, the swimmers need to go through a short tunnel and swim from the boat a distance of 200 meters.

One extra special way to spend the day is a cruise to the Marietas Islands , just offshore of the Punta de Mita peninsula. These uninhabited islands are a great place for bird-watching, diving, snorkeling, or just exploring. Blue-footed booby birds (found only here, and in the Galapagos) can be spotted all along the islands’ rocky coast, and giant mantas, sea turtles, and colorful tropical fish swim among the coral cliffs.

The islands are honeycombed with caves and hidden beaches––including the stunning Playa de Amor (Beach of Love) that only appears at low tide. You enter a shallow passageway to access this semicircular stretch of sand. There’s also a cave 12m (40 ft.) below the surface with an air pocket where divers can remove of their regulators and have an underwater conversation! Humpback whales congregate around these islands during the winter months, and so pangas can be rented for a do-it-yourself whale-watching excursion.

Two super luxury yachts, Attessa IV and Cloudbreak, have been anchored in Puerto Vallarta since the beginning of the year. Valued at $250 million and $150 million, respectively, these yachts have been a regular sight in the marina for several years. The owner of Attessa IV is the U.S. entrepreneur Dennis Washington, ranked 83rd among the world’s richest by Forbes with a fortune of $6 billion. The yacht offers amenities like a gym, spa, massage room, luxurious cabins for 28 guests, and a helipad.

Attessa IV arrived in Puerto Vallarta a few weeks ago, and while its departure date is uncertain, it typically sets sail at the end of January or early February, as observed in previous years. This award-winning yacht, honored as the best luxury vessel at the 2011 World Superyacht Awards, stands out for its design and the onboard helicopter, allowing passengers to reach remote beaches or land locations.

Originally named Evergreen, the yacht was built in 1999 for Taiwanese shipping magnate Chang Yung-fa and later purchased by current owner Dennis Washington in 2007. The Cloudbreak, another superyacht in Puerto Vallarta, is a 72.5-meter vessel built in 2016, known for its sophisticated design by luxury yacht architect Espen Øino and interiors by Parisian designer Christian Liaigre. It features high-tech amenities, a helideck, a large fireplace, and claims to have the world’s biggest toy chest.

Cloudbreak is considered a high-volume yacht, resembling a floating high-tech chalet with extensive fitness and spa areas, modern lighting, and sound systems. With 7 cabins that accommodate 12 guests and a crew of 22, the yacht’s name is inspired by the famous Cloudbreak wave in Fiji, capturing the adventurous spirit of its owners, guests, and clients.

15 days – change of date applicable

7 days – 75% deposit lost, changes applicable with $250 USD penalty 

In case of extreme weather or port closure. Full refund. 

In case of undesirable weather, we can change the day or the hour of departure to avoid the weather if you cannot change, a 50% deposit is lost.

Marietas Islands Boat Tours

Designated a world heritage site in 2004, the Islas Marietas National Park tour is undoubtedly one of the  best things to do in Puerto Vallarta . These islands are also known as the “Mexican Galapagos”.
