Maybe recently you bought a boat and are looking for a few tips on before you get on the water? I’ll be delighted to share with you a a few different things I’ve learned over the many years on water, maybe there’ll be something for everyone. And hopefully we will hit it off right away.

Cruising, sailing or fishing, my expertise holds water in all areas. All these various activities give recreational boating a new lease of life, and earn it the reputation of one of the most versatile and engaging hobbies to be enjoyed by you and your family and friends. If you choose to operate a boat yourself you should do so in a legal, and above all, safe way. For this, you need to be well-versed in the boating laws and the specifics of your boat, the best environment where you can operate safely, and how to handle emergency situations, with all of which I will be very pleased to help. Should you be keen on having leisure time and simply enjoy fishing, Captain Kinsale will again be more than happy to have you on board. In case you want to obtain certain qualification, you can benefit from my extensive tutoring experience and I promise you’ll sail through the exam.

Boating Lessons – It’s Easier Than You Would Expect

Don’t run the risk of being had by non-qualified imposters who just look like experienced captains.

Not to mention there’s a good deal of folks who are one sandwich short of a picnic and could seriously endanger their client’s health with their ignorance. Unfortunately, the rebuttal of non-certified boating instructors isn’t as conspicuous as it used to be before. Be that as it may, you ought to find only quality advice and instructions coming out of my mouth, naturally mixed up with stories of old and practical tips. Me and my assistants endow every aspirant with special attention and first-hand experience.

First thing we’ll cover are the basics. How to check the weather and distinguish the favorable conditions for smooth sailing. It’s always worth knowing what the tides are doing or else you might get in a sticky situation trying to come back if you don’t have enough water to do so.

If you want to make a name for yourself as a fearless sea wolf you can attend the advanced boating course I specially devised for the needs of those already well-acquainted with the basics. There we get up close and personal with the speed regulations. There’s a few general speed limits – 4 knots, 8 knots at speed zones and an implicit 10 knots if you’re within 30 meters of something solid. We’ll run over every single one of the situations and act them out on water until you get a good feel for the boat.

My fishing boats are equipped with the latest tech, most notably sonars. I don’t compromise with that part because it’s of pivotal importance for a good fishing experience. I utilize to a great extent top-of-the-line equipment recommended to me by the top dogs of the trade. With this specialized technology and enough time on our hands we are not taking a flyer anymore, but we are guaranteed to find some killer spots for fishing.

It takes an awful lot of time to learn the ropes of these units and how to use them to your advantage. Lucky for you, I’m a certified instructor and can show you the ins and outs of operating them babies as a part of the deal. I never cut corners, even beside the original point of our journey, I will go to great lengths to explain everything that may be of your interest.

KYC Marina is situated in the heart of Kinsale town, providing safe and secure berthing within the virtually landlocked harbor. Security is by a self-locking gate and CCTV security camera system.

Visitors to Kinsale Yacht Club have access to all the club’s facilities as a temporary member. These include bar and dining facilities, changing rooms, laundry facilities, fitness room. The marina is capable of taking visiting crafts of all sizes with at least 8 meters depth available at our visitor berths.

Kinsale Town

Kinsale is known as the Gourmet Capital of Ireland, a cruise to Ireland would not be complete without a visit to Kinsale – starting point of the Wild Atlantic Way and also on the ‘Sail Cool Route’. KYC Marina is in the heart of Kinsale town and the following facilities are locally available:

For those cruisers bound for Ireland who appreciate the blessings of a very safe harbor and a welcoming Visitors Dock, the Kinsale Yacht Club is certain to prove one of your favorite ports in The Emerald Isle. The Club is very welcoming to visitors, and is especially gracious to cruisers who have made offshore passages to experience the beauty of Ireland and her friendly people. Kinsale also serves as an official Port of Entry, and the Harbormaster and Customs Office is located on the town dock across the street from the KYC Clubhouse.

The Kinsale Yacht Club has a full service marina, shower facilities, excellent wifi, and a fine bar. The Club is also the center of beautiful Kinsale’s sailing and many other social activities. Here one can obtain references for many of the needs one may have after a passage to Ireland, for Kinsale is much more than a picturesque seaside village. It is a working fishing port with an impressive fleet. Therefore, along with the fine dining, great Irish pubs, wonderful hiking, and many art galleries, one can also find mechanics, welders, electricians, plumbers, riggers, sailmakers, surveyors et. There is also a diesel pontoon available at neighboring Castlepark Marina.

Provisioning is a short walk away at two supermarkets and numerous gourmet food shops. There are two professional laundries in town that pride themselves on same day service. Propane tank refill is available at Mylie Murphy’s and Cork Gas, and there are two large marine chandleries a short bus ride away in nearby Cork. In addition, the nearby Kinsale Boat Yard is a full service yard and can haul up to 35 tons.

The Club staff is extremely helpful and will assist with your logistics when possible. UPS and Fedex deliver to the Club almost daily. The fine bus service from Kinsale to the Cork airport and Dublin means crew changes and other personal transportation will be easy.

In summary, the Kinsale Yacht Club is considered by many to be the finest Landfall in Ireland. It is welcoming and safe, and serves as a splendid base to cruise the Emerald Isle.

Baltimore Diving is a family-run business in Co Cork, Ireland. I have been diving for 30 years and found the owner/skipper to be one of the very best. John Kearney leads the Co Cork Underwater Search and Rescue team and also is cox on the local lifeboat, so be assured you are diving with someone who knows what he is doing. John goes out of his way to make sure you have a great holiday. The diving, wildlife and the countryside are all top quality. Chorley BSAC highly recommends John and Baltimore Diving to our fellow divers.

We sailed with John and had one of the most memorable experiences. John shared his local knowledge and expertise with us and showed how to operate a sailboat safely. We learnt about wind, weather and tides. The best part was seeing the wildlife in silence, we could hear the whales and dolphins breathing and the noise the wild birds made. It was truly a magical experience that we will never forget.

I have worked with John Kearney and the Baltimore Diving setup in both a professional and personal manner over many years and I have to say that John is one of the most knowledgeable and easygoing dive providers I have ever encountered. A fantastic setup with some of the best diving in southwest Ireland on his doorstep assuring a great diving experience whatever the weather allows. I cannot recommend him highly enough and we will certainly be using Baltimore Diving again in the future.

Kinsale regatta 2024: seaside spectacle and fun for everyone....

If it is the August Weekend then Kinsale for the Regatta is the place to be. Running for over 200 years and Irelands longest running Regatta , where there is something for everyone. 

19-June-2024: Superyacht "AIR" returns to Kinsale.

17-June-2024: Propellor of WW1 submarine recovered to Kinsale.

Subsea Survey Services , based in Kinsale harbour, took part in the recovery of what is believed to be a propellor from stricken WW1 german submarine UC-42. All indications are that the submarine was destroyed by a mine that she had just dropped while mine-laying 5nm south of Roches Point, Cork harbour. Working together with Mizen Archaeology and Blackwater Sub-Aqua club the propellor was lifted by m/v HARPY and brought ashore at the Main Pier, Kinsale. 25-May-2024: Cruise-ship " Le Dumont d'Urville " due in Kinsale

At approximately 06:30 the cruise ship "Le Dumont d'Urville" arrives at the Inner Harbour anchorage from Scilly Isles.  Later, many of its passengers will disembark - using the cruise ships tenders - for a morning of sight-seeing trips in the region. 08-May-2024: Liner SEABOURNE VENTURE visits Kinsale Harbour.

Wednesday, 08/May/2024 sees the liner SEABOURNE VENTURE visited Kinsale Harbour. Arriving at 07:30am her 264 passengers enjoyed touring Kinsale or were whisked off to see the local sights. She left later that day, her next port of call being Plymouth, UK.
