A Day On Board Our Yacht At The Monaco Grand Prix

It’s a day of refined tranquil luxury watching some of the most exciting sporting action on the planet, a day to look forward to and remember forever.

If you want glamour, prestige and an unbeatable adrenalin rush, this has to be the best there is – watching the Monaco Grand Prix from a luxury yacht that’s close enough to the action you can virtually feel the whoosh of air as the cars race by at 140mph. You’ll certainly hear the boom of their awe-inspiring power!

Delicious food and drinks served on board complete the millionaire feel of this day. From local French wines to fresh juice and then there’s the amazing food… mouthwatering lobster, quality meats, a variety of excellent cheeses. You won’t want to ever leave the yacht.

Monaco Hospitality Packages at the Grand Prix

First raced in 1929, the Monaco Grand Prix is regarded as the most eminent and esteemed car race in the world. Taking place in May on the Circuit de Monaco, household names such as Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso will drive fast and hard in their Formula One (the highest class of single-seat auto racing) sleek machines.

All the racing-car action is on a slender course created around Monaco’s streets – that mean it’s a treacherous place to race. Only the very best high-speed drivers with their wits and skill fully about them can handle its many twists, turns and the famous tunnel.

trackside yachts

Rocket Hospitality’s yacht hospitality excitement starts at Fontvielle Harbour, the next bay from Monaco’s Port Hercules harbour. Keep an eye out here for famous Fontvielle residents such as former Wimbledon tennis champions Björn Borg and Boris Becker; and racing driver such as David Coulthard.

At 8.30am, you’ll make the 10-minute picturesque trip on a RIB lightweight high-performance boat to the harbour in Monaco where some of the most stunning yachts around are moored. A champagne breakfast greets guests to an amazing luxury yacht moored in a prime location in Monaco harbour (and with excellent views of the huge screens that show the build-up, entire race and celebrations afterwards).

Moored in two great locations, Rocket’s yachts view either the super-fast straight between Chicane du Port and Tabac, which is a tricky tight corner taken at about 120mph; or between Tabac and Piscine, a fast left-right section of the course.

There’s a complimentary bar throughout, delicious full gourmet lunch served on board, and friendly bilingual staff on hand to assist with anything to make the day go wonderfully. After the race has been won, at around 5pm it’s either time to return by the RIB boat to Fontvielle Harbour or get off the yacht to explore Monaco from there on foot.

It’s an easy enough place to get around. Neatly tucked away into less than a square mile, the world’s second-smallest country (after Vatican City) officially has a 38,500 population, but those numbers are greatly boosted by tourists who are drawn to Monaco’s splendour. It makes the nightlife absolutely fantastic and the streets are filled with happy party people.

Situated in the French Riviera, surrounded by a lovely landscape and facing into the tantalising turquoise Mediterranean Sea, Monaco enjoys a wonderfully warm climate (and for residents there’s also the attraction of paying no income tax!). Unsurprisingly there’s a fantastic choice of quality places to eat and a wide range of impressive architecture, including the well-known Monte Carlo Casino.

You could even have the chance of becoming one of those super-wealthy Monaco residents if you pay it a visit! Give it a go, you never know…

The yacht-spotter's guide to the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

Every year, Monaco’s Grand Prix pulls in some of the fleet’s finest superyachts for a weekend of adrenaline-fuelled F1 action and A-lister events in the heart of the principality. Yachts moored stern to the circuit have a premium vantage point over the cars tearing around the track, while superyachts at anchor can enjoy all the Formula One buzz with the added benefit of privacy and seclusion.

BOAT takes a closer look at the superyachts spotted near the event...

Renaissance

Length : 111.9m Builder : Freire

Renaissance is the largest private yacht built in Spain and one of the world's most expensive charter yachts . Which is quite the feat for Freire, a commercial shipyard that has built only one private yacht in the past. With 7,200GT to play with, her list of amenities include a sushi bar, a dedicated hair and beauty salon, a ballet bar with a mirror for stretching and two cinemas – one indoor, one outdoor. The owner's deck is described as "palatial" and comes with its own a media room, a lounge with bar and dining and a private terrace with a Jacuzzi for six.

Length : 52.1m Builder : Sanlorenzo

Spotted pulling into port with a Bugatti on the aft, Seven Sins is the perfect yacht for soaking up the Formula One action. She is part of Sanlorenzo's hugely successful 52Steel series, with features including a glass-bottomed pool on the aft that floods the beach club below with light. Her palatial interior design offers plenty of space for kicking back and watching the races in a more relaxed setting and her sharp Officina Italiana Design exterior is sure to attract attention in Monaco harbour.

Length : 90m Builder : Benetti

Lionheart was launched in 2016 as the shipyard's largest build to date, though she was surpassed by the 107-metre Mar (ex Lana ) four years later. She was the third yacht to be ordered from Benetti by the same owner, Sir Philip Green. While her curvy exterior and private balconies will be visible to those visiting Port Hercule this weekend, interiors have always been shrouded in secrecy. It is known that  Stefano Natucci  collaborated with Benetti on the exterior design and Green & Mingarelli Design  is responsible for the interior design.

Fountainhead

Length : 87.8m   Builder : Feadship

Created with family use in mind, Fountainhead features a recreation room and library that can be converted into cabins to supplement the six existing guest cabins and owner's suite. She was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Design , though "a signature blend of art, antiques and aesthetics" by Belgian artist Axel Vervoordt are also displayed throughout.  Leisure highlights include a fully-equipped gym with health club, a contra-flow swimming pool and a tender garage that houses wave runners, kayaks, surfboard and diving equipment, among others. The superyacht is named after the famous novel by Ayn Rand.

Coral Ocean

Length : 72.6m Builder : Lürssen

A World Superyacht Award winner, Coral Ocean earned the judges' commendation following a sensitive, multi-million refit that converted the heritage vessel into a successful charter platform. All deck spaces were upgraded, including a reimagined sundeck that now houses a glass-sided spa pool, sunbathing and observation deck and a central deckhouse with a television lounge, dining area and bar. Coral Ocean was one of the largest launches of 1994 and her secrecy for the first two decades of her life solidified her as an icon for the German shipyard. She is owned by Australian garbage waste disposal giant Ian Malouf.

Length : 72m   Builder : Lürssen

Delivered in 2006, Titania  (ex Apoise ) was put up for auction by her owner in 2010 and was snapped up for €33.75 million – roughly half the estimated value – by Phones4U tycoon John Caudwell. He then went on to refit, lengthen and rename the superyacht, which he discusses in an exclusive interview with BOAT International . Designed by Espen Øino and Francois Zuretti , the Lürssen was the star yacht in season six of The Crown and is a popular charter yacht. No wonder, as she sports a beach club that can be converted into a nightclub, an onboard masseuse and beautician and an impressive array of watersports – including a waterpark and a 12.7-metre slide.

Length : 70m Builder : Royal Denship

Force Blue first hit the water in 2002 as the 63.3-metre Big Roi , a trawler-style expedition yacht that has since been refitted to varying degrees. The most recent work was done at Lusben in 2022 and involved a seven-metre stern extension to allow for a large, wrap-around swim platform. The main deck was extended in the process as well. Design highlights include a black-tiled spa (with heated massage table), a cinema, a barbecue and dining area that turns into a disco and a dining room that doubles as a conference space. An elevator serves all decks.

Length : 67.5m Builder : Icon Yachts

The flagship of the Dutch shipyard, Loon (ex Icon ) is now anchored in Port Hercule where she is likely to cause another social media sensation . She was delivered in 2010 to a design by RWD , with clean, contemporary interiors by Studio Linse . A raised main deck pool is one of her many highlights with two panels of glass that filter natural light into the beach club below. A bar, gym, massage room and sauna are also found at this level. Loon was sold to a new owner in April 2023, after which she joined the charter fleet with IYC .

Length : 66m   Builder : Oceanco

AHS has undergone numerous name changes (she was sold and renamed mostly recently in January ) but started life as Dilbar in 2005. A successful charter yacht, she can be easily distinguished in port by her classic canoe stern. An interior by the late Alberto Pinto provides accommodation across eight cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite with its own lounge and adjoining private office. Other highlights include an outdoor cinema, a beamy sundeck with 19,000-litre pool and a helipad that transforms into a sun lounge.

Length : 49.9m Builder : Zepter

The Croatian yard's first superyacht offering, JoyMe is usually berthed in Cap d’Ail but has been sighted in Monaco for the past two Grands Prix. She’s one of the most recognisable yachts at the event, with her custom red and white exterior and unusual eye motif – said to be the eyes of the commissioning owner’s daughter. Leisure highlights include a Pop Art-inspired interior by  Marijana Radovic , a sundeck with a 3.5-metre Jacuzzi and a lower deck arranged with a gym, Finnish sauna and Hammam spa with sea views. Accommodation is across five cabins, including the "VIP deck" owner's cabin which has a walk-in bathroom, lounge and private sunbathing platform on the bow.

Length : 45.2m Builder : Royal Hakvoort

The most recent delivery on the list, Milele is one of this year's World Superyacht Award winners . According to the judges, she stood out thanks to her "incredible build quality” and surprising spaces on board. Most notable of these is the innovative foredeck garage, which stores a submarine and crane, and has a full entertainment suite with a large television screen built into its hatch. She was designed inside and out by Omega Architects with an efficient hull design by Van Oossanen Naval Architects .

The Monaco Grand Prix holds an esteemed status as the pinnacle and most revered race within the illustrious “Triple Crown” of motorsports.

"Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is the highlight of any racing driver's career"

- Nico Rosbert

As Nico Rosberg once said, “Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is the highlight of any racing driver’s career”!

  • It is one of the most challenging tracks to drive because of its narrow streets, With its close barriers and unforgiving walls, the Monaco Grand Prix offers no room for mistakes. Even the slightest error in judgment or loss of concentration can result in a race-ending collision or damage to the car.
  •  Known as a street circuit, the tight, narrow layout winds through the streets of Monte Carlo, leaving no margin for error. The lack of runoff areas and minimal overtaking opportunities means drivers must take calculated risks, making split-second decisions as they navigate the tight corners, sharp hairpins, and elevation changes.

Must watch this video from Nico Rosberg (who is also a Monaco resident) and won this race three times, how he explains the challenges of the Monaco track!

  • Variable Weather Conditions: The unpredictable weather in Monaco can make the race even more challenging. A sudden downpour can turn the already demanding circuit into a treacherous obstacle course, testing the drivers’ ability to adapt to changing conditions on the fly. Rain can make the track slippery, reducing grip and increasing the likelihood of incidents. I must admit we are all secretly hoping for rain because that’s when the race gets more challenging and we get to see the most exciting drive moves! Although in the end.. all we want really are champagne showers!
  • The race consists of 78 laps and the average speed is 96 MPH!
  • Michael Shumacher still holds the record for the fastest lap time in Monaco in 2004 who finishes in 1:14:439 (seconds and miliseconds matter in this sport!)

how to watch monaco grand prix from yacht

There are many ways of watching the race, you can watch it on the stands, in a hotel balcony, on a building terrace and of course the favorite one is to watch it onboard a superyacht!

Monaco residents or companies that have terraces with track views usually rent their terraces or organize hospitality themselves where they provide catering of food drinks and entertainment.

Hotels that have a track-side view also organize packages, although the view in most cases is not superb. You can also rent a room with a track view for example the best ones are at the Fairmont Hotel and also the Hotel de Paris. The advantage of the Fairmont is that you get free access to Nikki Beach, so if you plan to do pool parties this is your best bet!

I watched it once from Hermitage and even though the lunch was fun the view was quite limited.

The most common way is to watch it from the stands, although there are many and in different locations and if you are not familiar with Monaco, you can learn all about the grand stands and location here.

The paddock club is the most social option, located in the port and near the pits its an open area with many places to lounge, gourmet cuisine eat, open bars relax, meet the drivers and other VIP celebrities. Tickets for this type of hospitality is around 7,000 USD but you can get authographs from the drivers after the race is done!

Insider tip:

To book a table at a restaurant that has track view and that way you only spend on lunch (around 100-300 euros) instead of paying for extra tickets. Here is a list with all the restaurants in pole position. Restaurants like Quai des artistes have great packages of food entertainment and great track views.!

If you can’t attend the race, no worries you can also live stream it from the comfort of your home.

how to watch monaco grand prix from yacht

The epitome of luxury and the ultimate viewing experience for the Monaco Grand Prix is undoubtedly from the deck of a yacht. However, renting a superyacht for the entire week comes with a hefty price tag of approximately 500,000 euros, not to mention the additional challenge of securing a berth at an extra cost. Actually securing the berth is one of the hardest things! We have been doing it for years, and yet every year is a gamble!

how to watch monaco grand prix from yacht

But fear not! You can still indulge in the opulence and live the dream of watching the Monaco GP from a yacht without breaking the bank. Our exclusive hospitality packages start from just 600 euros per day, offering a fraction of the cost while delivering an extraordinary and super-luxurious experience. Moreover, the most glamorous parties and after-parties take place right in the port, onboard these magnificent vessels, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

To ensure seamless access to the yachts, it’s important to note that all access from the port is blocked. The best way to board is by tender, either from La Rascasse or, ideally, from the Port of Fontvieille. However, keep in mind that there may be some “tender traffic,” so it’s wise to plan ahead for a smooth transfer.

A friendly tip: Brace yourself for a bit of turbulence during tender transfers from yachts at anchor or when coming across from Port Fontvieille. Expect a touch of sea spray and perhaps some unruly hairstyles, but the exhilaration of the experience more than makes up for it.

Last minute Yacht Deals:

Boat option 1:.

The best place to buy tickets is officially through the Automobile Club of Monaco, which can be accessed by clicking   here .  Avoid getting scammed by resellers or unofficial agencies.

Budget tip: The Monaco Grand Prix’s Sector Rocher is one of the cheapest general admission areas in the world, with tickets going for €120 on race day and just over €300 for the whole weekend.

How to get free tickets:

Companies like Netjets invite their clients and rent huge roof top terraces and have incredible entertainment packages.

If you own a yacht (or planning to buy one) reach out to your favorite broker, most brokerage houses in Monaco have nice views!

If you are a member of the Yacht club (or have a friend who is) ask him to invite you to watch the race from there where you have the best harbor views! This year they are also hosting a free party on Saturday!

There are a lot of companies hosting and entertaining clients so if you are a good customer make sure to reach out, remember if you don’t ask you don’t get!

Pro tip: There are FREE autographs sessions by the drivers in the Live fan zone in place d’armes and best part is that no ticket is required!

Hotels in Monaco get booked really quickly and usually those dates are overpriced, We have a great option where you can stay onboard a yacht for a cheaper price than any hotels so contact us for more info!

Budget tip: the best is to stay in the surrounding towns like Menton, Cap D’ ail, or Nice.

 Getting there

The best way from Nice to Monaco and to ensure you arrive on style is for sure by helicopter, which takes only 7mins from nice and costs less than 200 euros.

Parking- If you are hoping on a tender to your superyacht, the best way is to park in Fontvieille, come in early there are big parking like in Carrefour supermarket. Another big parking in Fontvieille is the Stadium parking. Parking can be a nightmare in Monaco during the GP so plan an alternative (and pack flat shoes and be prepared to walk)

Taxis – somehow there are not enough taxis in Monaco during events like this so trying to get one is a nightmare, and sometimes they can even scammed you and treat you like a dumb tourist so be careful!

Train- coming by train has its charms as well. Train tickets are less than €10 for a return trip from Nice or Ventimiglia if booked in advance, although prices do rise for on-the-day bookings. The trip takes 20 minutes from Nice or 36 minutes from Ventimiglia, and each journey showcases one of the most stunning stretches of coastline the region has to offer.

What to bring, wear, and not-pack..

The weather is like in May.. it May be sunny but it May also rain.. so be prepared for both!

If you are seating on the stands, they are not covered so be prepared!

  •     Cash – most places take card, but you never know!
  •     Headphones
  •     Flat shoes
  •     Sunglasses
  •     Sunscreen
  •     Extra battery pack
  •     Rain jacket and/or umbrella

Do not bring strollers, scooters, scooter helmets, heavy backpacks, etc cause due to high security this won’t be allowed.

Shoes   First of all you don’t need shoes onboard a yacht so don’t overthink your outfit shoes! Bring a second pair of flat shoes just in case, because once the race is finished the streets are still closed and you may need to walk a lot! Over 21 km of safety railing and 20,000 sqm of catch fencing is set up, so be ready to walk a lot!

Parties and after-parties

If I’m honest, we are not all here following closely the race 🙂 mostly is about the vibe, the excitement in the air, the entertainment, and THE PARTIES!

Steps for the ideal Monaco experience:

Step 1: Watch the race

Step 2: Go for a nice dinner (Buddha bar, La Mome, Le Grill..)

Step 3: Party onboard a yacht

Step 4: Join the Dj Party

Step 5: Go to Sass Cafe

Step 6: Follow the after party

Monaco’s nightlife during the Grand Prix comes alive with vibrant energy, offering unforgettable experiences at renowned nightclubs like Amber Lounge, Sunset, Jimmy’z, and Twiga.

Arguably the most fun party in Monaco! Best way to arrive is by tender of course (but make sure you bring cash!) it’s a BEACH party so no heels! Arrive early cause sunset as the name implies is the most fun! It’s a great place to meet people (and no so loud like other clubs) but the music is more chill loungy and not a real dance club.

The most famous nightclub in Monaco is Jimmy’z , its literally a legend! Super glam and its iconic dance floor could tell many stories! Here is where the best DJs play and has the best high energy atmosphere. Also its super hard to get in so either come in super early or book long in advance.

 Amber Lounge

Some call it the ultimate party destination during the Monaco Grand Prix, Amber Lounge the party where celebrities and F1 drivers go. With its glamorous ambiance, live performances by international artists, and a buzzing atmosphere, it offers an exclusive VIP experience where you get a chance to rub shoulders with the who’s who of the racing world! Tables start around 30K and its usually sold out so make sure you book in advance.

Flabios Briatore’s restaurant (near Cipriani) has the best of Italian cuisine, exotic cocktails, and an electrifying club scene where you can both eath there and then party! The ambiance and décor are very unique so is a must-visit if you want a sophisticated nightlife experience.

OK Ciao Bye

Very professional, customer orientated company - they remember your name when you call. Nothing seems too much trouble. Their packages are excellent - great choices along the Course to see the Cars. Rascasse and the Yachts in the harbour, being the best in my opinion.

Penelope Claire Mann - 2024

The Monaco Grand Prix was an amazing experience thanks to Senate Grand Prix. Senate Grand Prix takes the extra effort to treat all of there clients as if they where family and they make it affordable..

Art Gordon - 2024

From the moment you pick up the tickets , to the event itself, and the goodbye and drop off. I booked with Senate Grand Prix for the Monaco Grand Prix yacht experience and it has been second to none. Picking up your tickets at hotel hermitage with quite the welcome spread. Heading to the event with multiple people stationed in the principality to help you get to where you need (as this can get a little confusing for new timers). And, to the event itself, the Monaco Grand Prix weekend viewed from a beautiful yacht catered excellently, and served by quite the wonderful crew. I’m going again next year and bringing more of my friends and will be booking to senate Grand Prix again.

Mr. Lime - 2024

Absolutely fantastic experience - treated like royalty by the Senate team. Everything went like clock work and the service, food, facilities were great. The package we chose gave us exceptional views and we had a truly amazing experience!.

Stacey - 2024

Amazing trip to Monaco with my family and a few friends! We got to check one off the bucket list sitting on the back of a yacht watching the cars go by. Then moved spots each day for premier viewing and touring of Monaco. What an incredible experience. I would highly recommend this full package with stay at the Famous Fairmont. They even have two Michilin star restaurants in the hotel!

Jake William Thomas - 2024

What a weekend at Silverstone Grand Prix, the whole weekend exceeded my expectations and can’t thank the Senate team enough for providing such great service! The viewing from the legends suite was amazing, the food and drinks were faultless. Big Thankyou to Sian at senate for making it a fantastic experience, not just for me but for everyone that was in our suite. Highly recommend and will be booking with you in the future!

The Prices & Parties Aboard the Iconic Yachts of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

how to watch monaco grand prix from yacht

It’s a bona fide showcase of opulence. Here’s what you need to know about the yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The most expensive weekend in sports is here. Formula 1 drivers will take their talents to the French Riviera on Sunday for the Monaco Grand Prix. Sure, fans mainly flock to watch their favorite driver make the podium, but this particular race is also an excuse to show off one’s latest luxury toys.

In this case, it’s the super-yachts that provide the most picturesque backdrop for the complicated track.

Attending a Formula 1 race is already a bucket-list experience. Watching it from the upper deck of a multi-million-dollar aquatic behemoth? Not many can say they’ll have that opportunity. Logistically speaking, finding yourself on one of those things isn’t guaranteed. You either have to be the owner of the ship, know said owner personally, or eclipse celebrity status that will automatically grant you an invitation if you are even in the general vicinity.

The illustrious Port Hercules marina is the hottest place to be over the next few days, so let’s take a look at what it takes to find yourself amongst Hollywood A-listers and their Very Important Friends.

Subscribe for the biggest stories in the business of sports and entertainment, daily.

Securing a spot on the water is no easy feat. Many opt to rent one for the weekend, which certainly comes at a hefty price tag. According to The Sports Rush , there are 760 berths up for grabs, and the least expensive will run you $3,800 a night. But it’s no guarantee that price will grant you an acceptable vantage point of the race. If that’s a priority, then expect to pay at least $110,000 a night. Keep in mind, that doesn’t even include food, drinks, entertainment, and anything else to make your super-yacht the most exclusive of the bunch. Also, yachts perched along the inner docks of Port Hercules have a length restriction of 30 meters.

For those looking to experience opulence without the possession of a boat, there’s an option for that. Enter the super-yacht hospitality package. As Yacht Charter Fleet describes, you can still be among the who’s-who in Monte Carlo, and even get a trackside vantage point of the race. Because they don’t come with the responsibility of managing a boat, demand for this option is incredibly high. In fact, many secure their spots for next year immediately following this year’s festivities. All the same benefits like access to premier dining and extravagant amusement are still included.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by AMBER LOUNGE (@amberloungeltd)

Billed as the most prestigious hospitality package in Monaco, Amber Lounge is an immersive experience that aims to please. Securing a pass here is like finding a golden ticket for a trip to the Willy Wonka factory — except you’re likely feasting on the rarest of chocolate available. At this VIP spot, expect to network with F1 drivers, celebrities in town for the Cannes Film Festival, and if you’re lucky, royalty. Some of the must-attend events include fashion shows, charity events, dinners prepared by Michelin-starred chefs, and more. Individual passes for the lounge run €600 ($642) a person and climb up to €35,000 ($37,459) for a semi-private VIP suite table for 10 with free-flowing beverages and champagne. As for the yacht’s hospitality, a weekend experience aboard a cabin includes race viewing tickets, gourmet meals and afternoon tea, an open bar, and a live DJ for a cool €5,100 ($5,458) a person.

Who Owns the Largest Yacht in Monaco?

With all this talk about luxury, it certainly begs the question: What is the largest vessel? That so happens to be The Octopus , which was constructed for the late Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft and former owner of the Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Seahawks, and Seattle Sounders. Measuring 414 feet long, The Octopus is worth $285 million and comfortably sleeps 12 guests. It has two helipads, a basketball court, a movie theater, and its own pool. The price to rent the yacht for a week is almost as extravagant as the amenities it offers, coming in at an overwhelming $2.2 million.

Here are more details about Octopus: The garage alone is 118 feet and holds 7 tenders, several jet skis, and a 10-person submarine. The boat was previously owned by the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, costing $20M to operate each year. In January, seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton and Olympic medalist Shaun White famously rented The Octopus to cruise around Antarctica, taking the continent’s breathtaking views, stunning wildlife, and more. Hamilton is set to race in Monaco, which he has won three times.

Ricciardo stunned after bizarre incident brings red flag CHAOS in Singapore

A wild lizard has caused a red flag during FP3 at the Singapore Grand Prix leaving Daniel Ricciardo stunned.

Affectionally nicknamed 'Larry the Lizard', the reptile was caught prancing across Marina Bay Street Circuit, unaware of the dangerous F1 cars making their way onto the track.

F1 RESULTS: Verstappen THRASHED as Red Bull suffer double disaster

The session was soon red flagged as the marshals attempted to rescue the lizard, but they had a difficult time trying to catch the troublemaker who rapidly ran away.

RB star Daniel Ricciardo watched the incident unfold via the live feed, stunned but also laughing at the antics of the critter.

Lizards love the Singapore Grand Prix

Lizards are no strangers to the Singapore GP, with Fernando Alonso accused of killing one of the creatures last year during FP1.

The Spaniard appeared to splatter the poor creature heading into Turn 9, but this did not deter his cold-blooded companions who continued to hijack last year's practice session.

Max Verstappen also had to contend with the troublesome lizards, nicknaming them 'Godzilla' and 'Godzilla Jr', as they thankfully avoided the tragic fate of their friend.

Alonso was first to notice his previous nemesis, complaining about the lizard stomping around in the middle of the track.

“We are told the track is clear but just have a look for the lizard," the Aston Martin team said via team radio.

“No it’s in the middle of the track," Alonso responded.

Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz seemed more enamoured by the lizard's brash nature, as it boldly danced across the track.

"It looks like it's doing the 'floss' - some kind of dance," Kravitz remarked.

The lizard was eventually rescued and FP3 was resumed, however the threat of further reptilian encounters looms over the weekend.

The Must-Visit Spots in Monte Carlo During the Monaco Yacht Show

A highlight of monaco’s social calendar, the principality turns into a playground for the yachting and design world during the glitzy, four-day event kicking off september 25.

The Monaco Yacht Show is the principality’s glamorous unofficial season closer. Superyachts cruising the Mediterranean throughout the summer make their way back from Croatia or Porto Cervo, Sardinia, and dot the French Riviera coastline like a constellation of stars while a steady stream of helicopters whir overhead.

During the September 25 through 28 event, 120-plus boats from elite builders and brokers will be on display in Port Hercule. A who’s who representing shipyards, designers, brokerage houses, and owners flock to the principality to see the best superyachts in the world and latest designs. Not to be missed is this year’s most expensive superyacht bearing a $327 million price tag. “Monaco Yacht Show is one of the biggest events in Monaco’s social calendar, perhaps second only to the Grand Prix weekend,” says Sara Gioanola, PR and press office manager of Heesen Yachts .

Below, an insider’s guide to the top places to dine, drink, dance, and, eventually, call it a night, during the Monaco Yacht Show.

L’Abysse Monte Carlo

This summer, gastronomic great Yannick Alléno and renowned sushi master Yasunari Okazaki transported their sushi counter concept L’Abysse Monte-Carlo to Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo , where it neighbors Michelin-starred Pavyllon Monte-Carlo, a restaurant by Yannick Alléno . Working with the four elements (fire, earth, water, and air) and seasonal ingredients from around Monaco and the Mediterranean, the duo crafted a menu of haute Japanese cuisine that unfolds around a 10-seat sushi counter. “In Paris, we learned to work together, using our respective expertise to create a unique experience and earn two Michelin stars,” Okazaki tells Galerie . “In Monaco, the idea is not to duplicate the concept, but to create an entirely new menu inspired by the local terroir.”

Working together with Paris architecture and design studio RoWin’ Atelier , Galerie Scene Ouverte’s founder, Laurence Bonnel, wanted to translate the restaurant’s concept—a powerful yet delicate blend of French cuisine and Japanese culinary traditions—into the décor. A centerpiece indigo carpet inspired by the dye produced on the Japanese island of Shikoku sprawls across the bright, light-drenched space, illuminated by artist Célia Bertrand’s duo of 6.5-foot-long raw porcelain white gold light fixtures. William Coggins’ large-scale, white ceramic Coral Wall installations, which resemble sand dunes and coral lining the ocean floor, are pieced together like tile on one wall, while four of French artist Caroline Désile’s Japanese-inspired sculptures from her Série Origami collection sit opposite, playing on the theme of light and shadow.

The first international outpost of the Dubai-based haute Greek concept couldn’t be in a better location, unfolding on the edge of Monte Carlo’s Casino Square. A twist on a classic taverna, GAIA Monte-Carlo feels like it was plucked from one of the Greek islands. In Monaco, GAIA’s intimate rooms and covered terrace have become a local favorite just as much for people-watching as staples like honey-drizzled grilled feta and black truffle-infused tiropita, or phyllo cheese pie.

Part deux of the concept debuted this year when private members’ club NYX Monte-Carlo opened around the corner. The intimate venue exudes boudoir, Parisian vibes (plush red velvet couches, tasseled table lamps) with the glitz you’d expect from Monaco thanks to statement pieces like a bronze Nicola Rosini Di Santi sculpture—plus DJs (and big-name producers) spinning a curated selection of house and afro beats late into the evening.

Amazónico Monte Carlo

After a nearly two-year, $61 million renovation, legendary Café de Paris , the 150-year-old brasserie sitting across from the Belle Époque Casino de Monte-Carlo, reopened its doors in the fall. This spring, it welcomed the finishing touch—the lively Latin American-inspired restaurant and club Amazónico . The Amazon rainforest is the central thread for everything, from the tropical-style décor dreamt up by Lázaro Rosa-Violán to petiscos (small plates) like Peruvian corn bread with lobster and caviar and wagyu beef and black truffle cream empanadas. Take a seat on the rooftop terrace at sunset for one of the best views over Casino Square while live bands serenade in the background with jazz, bossa nova, and Cuban beats.

Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac

Within nine months of opening at Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo in the Jacques Garcia-designed space formerly helmed by Joël Robuchon, Les Ambassadeurs by Christophe Cussac was awarded two Michelin stars. Cooking his way from Burgundy to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Monaco in the Côte d’Azur, the namesake chef has spent nearly the past three decades perfecting his Riviera-influenced cuisine. “I learned and got inspired by the sauces, fish, olive oil—everything particular to Mediterranean cuisine, since it’s very different here than what you’ll find in Burgundy,” he explains.

Anchored by an open kitchen, the elegant ivory- and gold-toned space reflects the chef’s refined, lighter fare—which can be savored in the form a 13-course, tasting menu. Tables are dressed with eye-catching, sculptural amber handblown glass plates by Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert, which beautifully complement dishes like the gold leaf-topped seam bream tartare and caviar cannelloni.

Where to Stay for the Ultimate Monaco Experience

how to watch monaco grand prix from yacht

Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo

The grande dame Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo , a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, and neighboring casino helped position the principality as the luxury destination it is today. While it’s in good company with a few other five-star spots within walking distance, the Hôtel de Paris is arguably the most glamorous to post up in—especially during an event like the Monaco Yacht Show.

When the 209-room hotel reopened six years ago after a full, $280 million renovation, its fresh face proved exactly what Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer founder François Blanc hoped to achieve when it was built 160 years ago— “a hotel that surpasses everything created up to now.” With the addition of the two-bedroom, 5,651-square-foot Prince Rainier III Suite , the largest in the hotel, that goal is certainly achieved, especially when you glance out at the glittering casino and parade of luxury cars from the terrace’s heated infinity pool.
